^^^Patently false claim not supported by any clinical evidence that you so require. Maybe in the alternate universe he thinks he visits sometimes, he is not sure he brushed his teeth? To maintain a position/claim one must have a rationale for the judgement, if not then that position is irrational. Proving nothing is just that; is unsound, invalid logic/reasoning. You are assuming that creation is reduced to infinity and have no proof to support the claim you make. At least I can point to Teleological evidence of Design for my claim. You possess nothing concrete. |
Aringarosa:Can a Lunatic believe in lie? Lunatics believe in untruths all the time. I think your logic is a little fuzzy. The human mind is not that bifurcated. I hinted at on of the proofs, well two: You cannot reduce the causes of creation to infinity and you cannot prove a negative. The proofs you seek are not mine-read Thomas Aquinas. |
Aringarosa:Lying and Lunacy are mutually exclusive because lying requires the liar to be cognizant of the lying. You are reducing the causes of creation to infinity. |
According to Lee Strobel and Louis Carroll, Christ was one of three things: a Lunatic, a Liar or the Lord. No other options are available logically. Make your choice. Since there are more than two choices, it is not a faulty dilemma or False Alternatives Fallacy. It is an axiomatic fact that Jesus existed, it is up to you to discern whom he was. Faith and Logic are not mutually exclusive. There are mathematical certainties that indicate Jesus Christ was God. |

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee said Sunday that the U.S. should consider military action against Pakistan if it continues to support terrorist attacks against American troops in Afghanistan. "The sovereign nation of Pakistan is engaging in hostile acts against the United States and our ally Afghanistan that must cease, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told "Fox News Sunday." He said if experts decided that the U.S. needs to "elevate its response," he was confident there would be strong bipartisan support in Congress for such action. Graham did not call for military action but said "all options" should be considered. He said assistance to Pakistan should be reconfigured and that the U.S. should no longer designate an amount of aid for Pakistan but have a more "transactional relationship" with the country. "They're killing American soldiers," he said. "If they continue to embrace terrorism as a part of their national strategy, we're going to have to put all options on the table, including defending our troops." In testimony last week to Graham's committee, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, said Pakistan's powerful military intelligence agency had backed extremists in planning and executing the assault on the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan and a truck bomb attack that wounded 77 American soldiers. Both occurred this month. Mullen contended that the Haqqani insurgent network "acts as a veritable arm" of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency as it undermined U.S.-Pakistan relations, already tenuous because of the war in Afghanistan. Pakistan exports violence, Mullen said, and threatens any success in the 10-year-old war. Graham said Pakistan does cooperate with the U.S. in actions against al-Qaida. But he said the Pakistani military feels threatened by a democracy in Afghanistan and is betting that the Taliban will come back there. "The best solution is for Pakistan to fight all forms of terrorism, embrace working with us so that we can deal with terrorism along their border, because it is the biggest threat to stability," he said. "But Pakistan is terrorism itself. They have made a tremendous miscalculation." |
+1 @OP , Good thread. I concur with all you have written. Only Time will tell. |
People wailed and rolled on the floor at the residence of a retired Brigadier-General who was brutally killed in his living room in Lagos, on Tuesday. His wife, who was also attacked was said to be in a critical condition at the Badagry General Hospital. Brigadier General Umai Jabil Uwurigbe (retd) was killed at about 5.30 pm by some hoodlums, who invaded his residence at 20 Acre of Land, Iragon Village, along Ado-Odo Road, Morogbo. Daily Sun gathered that the hoodlums also dispossessed the couple of some cash, mobile phones and other valuables. People in the area were not ready to talk about his death except a man, who claimed to know little about him . The man, who identified himself simply as Jacob said the incident surprised everybody in the area because the man was not known to be a troublemaker. Jacob said people usually called the deceased ‘Baba’ in the area. He suspected that the mission could not have been armed robbery. He suspected that it would be the hand work of assassins. According to him, the man’s wife, Mrs. Uwurigbe was not left out as she was also beaten to coma. “If you were around on Tuesday evening when the incident occurred ,you will know that people love this man. People wept profusely. “I don’t know if anybody can talk to you in that house because ‘Mama’ is in the hospital. They said her condition is very critical. Baba was a very peaceful person. We don’t know him as a troublemaker. “He was a retired brigadier general. He never used his rank in the military to intimidate anybody. The whole people in the community are weeping for him. He and his wife loved each other as I was told. We all in this community are still in shock over his death,” he said. Meanwhile, a police source (name withheld) from Morogbo Police Division told Daily Sun that the retired general was killed by unidentified hoodlums, who invaded his residence. He said the police had to rush the wife to Badagry General Hospital, where she was receiving treatment. The source also disclosed that the police had removed the body from the residence and deposited it at Isolo General Hospital, for autopsy. Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Musiliu Smith Street, Yaba, Lagos. http://odili.net/news/source/2011/sep/23/518.html |

Mankind has always looked to a greater being either because he wants help, blames others for his misfortunes or simply can't cope with the fact that we are only here once. Science however has a habit of proving its theories. With one you need unbreakable faith, with the other you need an ever inquisitive mind. Me! I sit on the fence just in case. |

A sophisticated new camera system can detect lies just by watching our faces as we talk, experts say. The computerised system uses a simple video camera, a high-resolution thermal imaging sensor and a suite of algorithms. Researchers say the system could be a powerful aid to security services. It successfully discriminates between truth and lies in about two-thirds of cases, said lead researcher Professor Hassan Ugail from Bradford University. The system, developed by a team from the universities of Bradford and Aberystwyth in conjunction with the UK Border Agency, was unveiled today at the British Science Festival in Bradford. This new approach builds on years of research into how we all unconsciously, involuntarily reveal our emotions in subtle changes of expression and the flow of blood to our skin. We give our emotions away in our eye movements, dilated pupils, biting or pressing together our lips, wrinkling our noses, breathing heavily, swallowing, blinking and facial asymmetry. And these are just the visible signs seen by the camera. Even swelling blood vessels around our eyes betray us, and the thermal sensor spots them too. Real-world test Traditional lie detection depends on the venerable polygraph, first developed in 1921, a much more invasive apparatus with a set of wires attached to the skin. This new device promises non-invasive, even covert truth tests in real time. "We bring together all this well-established work on expressions, these recent developments in thermal imaging, techniques for image tracking of subjects and our new algorithms into one operational system," said Professor Ugail. A computer programme is used to monitor tiny changes in facial expressions So far, the team has only tested its lie detector on willing volunteers rather than in a real-life, high stakes situation. Later this year, though, they plan to deploy it in a UK airport, probably running alongside experienced immigration officers as they conduct security interviews. The algorithms can then be tested against the verdicts of these officers. "In a real, high-stress situation, we might get an even higher success rate," noted Professor Ugail, who believes he'll eventually be able to detect around 90% of those who are lying, which is similar to the performance of the polygraph. The researchers acknowledge, though, that these tests can never be 100% accurate. What they detect are emotions, such as distress, fear or distrust, and not the act of lying itself. Fear can sometimes be the fear of not being believed rather than the fear of being caught. |
tashanja:WHAT IS JAILBREAK/JAILBREAKING Jailbreaking is basically modifying the iPhone's firmware so that you can get access to the internals of its operating system and install a whole slew of third-party applications on your iPhone that are not otherwise available through official channels (ie, the App Store). Jailbreaking your iPhone in and of itself doesn't normally make much difference in your operation of it, but it does allow you to install other third-party applications that are not blessed by Apple. This is a double-edged sword, however, The upside is that there are some useful and interesting applications available through unofficial channels that will likely never appear on the App Store due to SDK restrictions. For example, Apple's official position is that applications are not permitted to continue to run in the background on the iPhone. This restriction is not because the iPhone can't run apps in the background, but merely because Apple did not want developers doing this. Further, applications the hack or extend the functionality of built-in iPhone apps like Mail and Safari and the phone app are not permitted by the SDK, yet unofficial apps have no such restrictions. The downside to this approach is that although there are some brilliant developers out there in the jailbreak community, these folks are all flying by the seat of their pants when it comes to writing these apps, They have no official support from Apple, and are building most of these apps by reverse-engineering the existing iPhone OS and built-in applications to figure out how things work so they can build their own apps. This means that the quality of many of these jailbreak apps, particularly those that act as system extensions, is extremely dubious. They're doing things the iPhone may not have been designed to do, and certainly doing them without any official blessing from Apple. WHAT IS ROOTING First, for the newbies, let me clarify what rooting is. Getting root or rooting your phone is the process of modifying the operating system that shipped with your device to grant you complete control over it. This means you can overcome limitations that the carriers and manufacturers put on your phone, extend system functionality, and even upgrade it to a custom flavor of Android. The name root comes from the Linux operating system world, where the most privileged user on the system (otherwise known as Administrator on Windows) is called root. PLEASE NOTE: Now, I'd like to take a moment to dispel a common misconception and clarify one thing: rooting does *not* mean installing a custom ROM (a ROM is a modified, "aftermarket" OS). Installing a ROM may require rooting first, but just rooting can be usually done in only a few minutes, keeping your stock OS otherwise completely intact. Usually rooting is fairly simple - in most cases you can find several videos and articles on the web that explain how to do it on your specific phone model - just Google "YOURPHONEMODEL root". Rooting is not something manufacturers or carriers approve of but they can't really prevent it from happening because the rooting process usually exploits a vulnerability in the operating system code or device drivers and allows the "hacker" to upload a special program called su to the phone. This program is the one that provides root access to programs that request it. |

Reactions Meanwhile, an Abuja based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Society for Rule of Law in Nigeria (SRLN), has hailed the Code of Conduct Tribunal over the planned commencement of the criminal trial of Tinubu. The group described the trial already scheduled to begin on September 21 as a welcome development, adding that; "Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations, must begin to speak with one voice against corruption, because it (corruption) has no political party." The SRLN said in a statement issued on Saturday by its Coordinator, Comrade Chima Ubeku, that with the impending trial of Tinubu, those thinking that they were sacred cows ought to begin to have a rethink. The group also urged the Federal Government to prosecute Tinubu for alleged perjury, saying; "he lied on oath by refusing to declare the operation of many foreign bank accounts in the assets declaration form CCB-1 he submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau on 6th January, 2004. "This is a kind of news that gladdens our hearts and we hope that the Code of Conduct Tribunal will pursue the case to a logical conclusion. "We are also waiting to hear from those bread and butter groups to make the kind of noise that they used to make whenever a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member is on trial for alleged corruption. "We want to read editorials in the newspapers against Tinubu as it was done against people like Chief Bode George; former Speaker, Dimeji Bankole; former Delta State governor, Chies James Ibori; among others," the group said. While calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to also clear the air on the allegations of corruption against Tinubu, which its former chairman, Ribadu, said the commission investigated and that it had 'international dimension.' SRLN asked; "has the international dimension of the case ended with Tinubu and Ribadu holding hands at campaign rallies?" In a similar vein, the Justice For All Nations (JFAN), a US-based NGO, called for the trial of Tinubu for perjury, just as it commended the will to start his trial for illegal operation of foreign accounts. The group noted that since Tinubu lied on oath to the Code of Conduct Bureau on the accounts, he ought to face the music separately. "Most importantly too, the EFCC must tell Nigerians what has happened to the case against Tinubu, which its former chairman, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, said had international dimension," the group said. In the statement signed by its Coordinator, Dr. Dada Popoola, the group charged President Goodluck Jonathan to demonstrate to Nigerians that he had the will to tackle corruption, saying, "we are happy that the Code of Conduct Tribunal has woken up to its responsibilities and we urge that this case be diligently prosecuted. "It is also hoped that the EFCC will tell Nigerians where Tinubu's corruption case files are being kept. "At least, we are aware that Ribadu said publicly that 'Tinubu's corruption has international dimension and there is no time for the EFCC to tell Nigerians what has happened to that corruption case and its international dimension. "Tinubu should also be made to face criminal charge for perjury because he lied on oath by refusing to declare the operation of several foreign bank accounts in the assets declaration form CCB-1 he submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau on 6th January, 2004." http://odili.net/news/source/2011/sep/11/610.html |
Code of Conduct Bureau vs Tinubu: US, UK banks release accounts details *Ex-gov may be declared wanted *He lied on oath -Bureau *SRLN, US group react Pieces of evidence needed by the Federal Government to prosecute the alleged illegal operation of foreign accounts by the former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have been reportedly released by the banks where the 16 accounts are said to be domiciled in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA). The charge filed against him by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice would be prosecuted by the Code of Conduct Bureau which is directly under the Presidency and empowered under the 1999 Constitution (As Amended) to prosecute public officers who run afoul of the assets declaration law. The 1999 Constitution forbids public office holders from operating foreign accounts while in office, while those they have in operation before assumption of office are to be closed for the duration of the tenure of office. Code of Conduct Bureau, while charging Tinubu before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, claimed that Tinubu operated and maintained 16 foreign accounts in the USA and UK while in office between 1999 and 2007 and lied on oath while filling the mandatory asset declaration form for public officers before being sworn-in into office, by not disclosing the said accounts in his forms. Operation of foreign accounts by public officials was banned by the law to forestall money laundering, though the chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Sam Saba, had disclosed a new discovery which showed that public officials now open foreign accounts in the names of their family members and relatives and use left hands to sign, in order to disguise the real identity of the owners. Some of the foreign accounts allegedly traced to Tinubu by the bureau are in the names of his wife and children. All the accounts in his wife and children names, according to the charge, are domiciled in the UK, while all the USA accounts bears his name as well as a few ones in the UK. A source within the system noted that the proof of evidence against him had been packaged, following the release of evidential documents from the banks, which reportedly revealed dates of transactions that fell within his time in office, as well as the movement of monies in and out of the accounts. Nigeria has a working understanding with both the USA and UK on the issue of money laundering. A number of witnesses were also said to have been lined up, with the source refusing to disclose their identities for security reasons. The source added that the new proof of evidence was more loaded than the previous one attached to the charge brought against him in 2007, noting that the amended charge was made to include allegation of maintaining the accounts while in office, in order to pre-empt him from using the excuse that he had been operating them before becoming governor. It was also gathered that the excuse that the accounts pre-dated his coming to office would not avail him, because he did not list them in his asset declaration form. Unlike the usual practice of lawyers from the office of the AGF prosecuting, it was learnt that an experienced Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) had been hired by the prosecution to lead the legal team. The proof of evidence had been previously filed before the tribunal by the bureau with a source revealing that a more detailed proof of evidence might be added to the case this week. It was also gathered that the former governor might be declared wanted if he failed to heed the summons of the tribunal, with a source saying that he might not show up on the trial date and bring preliminary objection. "Just like they did in (Nuhu) Ribadu's case and shielded him from appearing before the tribunal until they applied the political solution and those who did that are very much around this person too, but we are waiting," said the source. The source added that in the likely scenario that he brought a preliminary objection, his application would be treated first by the tribunal before the consideration for a bench warrant, if he still failed to appear in an event of his objection not succeeding. Issuance of a fresh summons by the tribunal was confirmed by the Sunday Tribune source, who explained that the case was taken to be fresh because of the amendment to the charge and re-packaged proof of evidence, despite that it was initiated in 2007, which informed the decision of the tribunal to serve a fresh summons on him for appearance on the trial date. The tribunal, on Friday, disclosed that it had fixed the commencement of the trial for September 21, in Abuja. A statement signed by Special Adviser/Director, Abdulazeez Moh. Badisha, on behalf of the tribunal's chairman, claimed that Tinubu contravened Section 7 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, Cap 56 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 (As Amended), which is punishable under Section 23 (2) thereof as incorporated under Paragraph 18, Part 1, Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution. Some of the banks in the USA mentioned in the charge as holding Tinubu's alleged illegal accounts are; First Heritage Bank, Country Club Hills, Citibank NA New York, where he allegedly kept six accounts both in his name and that of Compass Finance and Investment Company Ltd; and Citibank International New York, where he allegedly kept two accounts. In the UK, HSBC of 177 Great Portland Street, London, WIW 6QJ, is listed as his only bank of choice, with seven different accounts listed against his name, his wife's and children's, with Shade Oluremi Tinubu reportedly holding three different accounts; Bola, two; and his kids, one each. The bureau claimed in a seven-paragraph affidavit supporting the charge, deposed to by Ikechi Iwuagwu, a deputy director, that "on 4th of March, 2003, before the expiration of the first term in office of Governor Bola Tinubu, an asset declaration form CCB-1 was sent to the accused person as a public officer. The accused person declared his assets and liabilities in the said form and returned the form to our office on 6th January, 2004. A copy of the said form is hereby attached and marked as Exhibit "A."All the assets declared by the accused person are as indicated in the assets declaration from CCB-1. The accused person did not declare any other things/assets or the operation of several foreign bank accounts in the said assets declaration form CCB-1 submitted by the accused person marked as Exhibit A. I was informed by Mr. O. T. Olatigbe, counsel handling this matter, and I verily believe him that the accused person is still operating several foreign bank accounts which he did not declare before the Code of Conduct Bureau." |

You've no doubt heard the buzz around two of the biggest forces to be reckoned in the smartphone world, Android and the iPhone. And while it's true they're head-to-head competitors in many respects, the two mobile juggernauts might have more differences than similarities. Here, we'll break down what they have in common and where they differ so that you can sort it all out when choosing the right phone. What's an operating system? The core battle between Android and the iPhone is one between mobile operating systems. A mobile operating system (or "OS" runs on a phone and determines the organization of the entire experience you see on your screen, from the moment you press the power button. On a phone, the OS is your gateway to apps, the internet, email, and everything else. Both the Android OS and the iPhone OS were created to run on smartphones. The iPhone: The one and only When people say "iPhone" they might be referring to the actual phone or the OS the iPhone runs, called iOS. Unlike other smartphones, there's really just one flavor of iPhone. Apple's current iPhone is the 4th version to date and is referred to as the iPhone 4. The term Android refers to both Google's mobile OS as well as any device running Android. This gets tricky too: some Verizon Android phones are branded as "Droids" but Android owners also occasionally refer to any Android device as a "Droid," regardless of carrier. App wars Apple has faced some criticism for its approach to the iPhone app store, as nothing can sneak its way into the store without first getting the green light from the company. In the past, this has sometimes resulted in Apple's stalling apps in the approval process or rejecting them altogether. Still, Apple boasts the biggest and arguably the best app store to date. From the beginning of Android, Google emphasized the "openness" of its mobile OS, and the company does not implement any kind of app approval process, unlike its rival. App developers revel in Android's openness, because there are fewer barriers to getting their product into the hands of customers. Critics of Google's approach suggest that this system fails to filter out low-caliber apps, while Android evangelists believe that the laissez-faire approach will work itself out. Either way, the app stores are quite comparable. The iPhone OS has been around for longer, so the iPhone's store naturally boasts many more apps than Android's relatively fewer offerings. But increasingly, new and popular apps are being developed in parallel for both platforms, and very few big hits remain exclusive to one store or the other. Android advantages While the iPhone is the true app pioneer, Android devices offer an additional kind of app experience that iPhone does not support, called "widgets." Think of widgets as mini-versions of apps, perfect for information you'd like to access frequently at a glance. Unlike an app, a widget can provide you useful updates like local weather, email previews, and Twitter feeds right on your home screen, so launching the app itself isn't necessary for quick updates. A widget is a one-click (or no-click) way to keep updated on the stuff you care about most, or to keep your most frequently used functions and features easily accessible. Another unique advantage afforded by Android is its integration with Google. Gmail's ubiquity means that just about everyone can benefit from Android's superior native Gmail app. Beyond Gmail, Android's version of Google Maps offers some unique and extremely useful features like Google's Navigation, a GPS-driven, turn-by-turn directions app for the car that's a solid substitute for a stand-alone GPS system. On the whole, Android is a more flexible OS. If there's something that bugs you about your phone or some setting you'd like to tweak, odds are an app on the Android market does just that — or even a simple setting on the phone itself may control what you need. Developers can even create apps that modify the look and feel of Android entirely. Android drawbacks A criticism frequently leveled at Android is the issue of "fragmentation." Android fragmentation refers to the existence of multiple versions of Android across many different phones. The current version of Android (nicknamed Froyo but more commonly referred to as Android 2.2) is the latest and greatest Android build, but many relatively new devices still run an older version of the OS. Android device manufacturers usually offer their own interpretation of Android, meaning that a Motorola Android phone will look and function a little differently from a comparable Android phone made by HTC. These unique, manufacturer-specific takes on the Android OS are called "skins." While sometimes they are well regarded, like HTC's lauded skin Sense, it all boils down to matters of preference. Unfortunately, it's these skins that create the Android fragmentation problem, by making universal, across-the-board Android updates nearly impossible. iPhone advantages Apple remains firmly confident in its ability to craft the best possible experience for its customers, and as a result, the iPhone feels extremely polished. Renowned for its approach to design, Apple offers a sleek aesthetic and a cohesive, seamless experience on all of its devices, from the iPhone to laptop and desktop computers. This emphasis is very apparent on the iPhone, which is a breeze to use on top of being disarmingly attractive. It's no secret that the iPhone 4 is the best-looking phone on the market, and it's easy to see why. The latest iPhone also debuted Apple's Retina display, making it the highest-resolution display on a phone to date. That means an extremely crisp display for web browsing, e-reading and multimedia. Another iPhone exclusive is Apple's FaceTime app, which facilitates seamless video chatting between iPhone 4 owners and Macs. While these features are certainly perks, owning a phone that looks amazing and "just works" is likely the winning formula behind the iPhone's overwhelming success. iPhone drawbacks One prominent criticism of the iPhone revolves around Apple's refusal to support Flash, a web-based feature that some websites require to load. Also, until recently, the iPhone was unable to multitask, meaning that it was only possible to open one iPhone app at a time. The newest iPhone OS supports multitasking, but it still can't be used with all apps. A very limiting aspect of the iPhone is its exclusive contract with AT&T. If you'd prefer to remain on a different mobile carrier or lack AT&T coverage in your area, you're out of luck. While a Verizon iPhone is in the works, AT&T and the iPhone go hand and hand for now. Beyond these criticisms, Apple's general attitude toward its products can prove a turn-off for some. The iPhone is less customizable because Apple purports to know exactly what will make your mobile experience the best it can be. Naturally, this paternalistic view on its customers can rub some would-be iPhone owners the wrong way, particularly when Google espouses the opposite attitude toward Android. Which is right for me? Ultimately, making the choice between Android and the iPhone comes down to personal taste. For those who value a high level of customization, an Android device is the way to go for an impressively flexible, though potentially less cohesive, experience. And for those seeking an undeniably smooth smartphone experience at the cost of flexibility, the iPhone will certainly not disappoint. |

And for those seeking an undeniably smooth smartphone experience at the cost of flexibility, the iPhone will certainly not disappoint. |

runs on a phone and determines the organization of the entire experience you see on your screen, from the moment you press the power button. On a phone, the OS is your gateway to apps, the internet, email, and everything else. Both the Android OS and the iPhone OS were created to run on smartphones.
