socialmediaman:
I'm really tired of all these name saving for Jonathan. He failed, nothing short of failure can truly paint a picture of his performance.

This is the real story:

In 2012 January 1st, Jonathan announced an end to the petrol subsidy. NLC reacted and mobilized the masses who were taken by surprise. (This was not a party issue).

The NLC replied the government, "Fight The corruption in the sector first, you will have nothing to subsidize"... Jonathan never did this.

What are the corruption in the oil sector imports? There are thousands, but I'll name just a few outstanding ones:

1. Importers bring in petrol into the country and inflate the figures. Let's say an importer brought in 1 vessel, he brings a claim for 20 vessels, he is paid subsidy for the 20 vessels, no inspection to see if these vessels entered the shores of Nigeria, Nothing. They are just paid. This is crazy! No serious government will tolerate this, but Jonathan choose to ignore it

2. Importers bring in vessels into the country. After getting paid for subsidy, they divert these products to neighboring countries where the petrol sells higher, and they make double profits while we experience scarcity. It is noteworthy that these people do not fly these products into neighboring countries, they drive them, passing immigration and customs at our borders. Isn't this crazy? This is how people will be using our borders to import arms and illegal dangerous weapons, do we have a government, really? This was no problem for Jonathan.

3. NNPC imports products and intentionally delay these products from being offloaded for months so as to incur demurrage and share the proceeds with the vessel owners, they were indicted severally for these

4. Even with all these fraud and impunity by these oil marketers, many of them still get import waivers that cost Nigeria $20 billion dollars in revenue as pointed out by NOI in 2014.

Lots other crimes, this is just a teaser...

So what was Our apprehension?
NLC and Nigerians generally believed that unless you fight corruption in the sector, if you remove subsidy, these cabals will gang up and hoard these products so they become expensive again, what will the president do? If he could not fight corruption in the first place, how could he control impunity by the same greedy marketers?

Conclusion
This rubbish of leniency and kid gloves on sensitive matters such as embezzlement, fraud, impunity and corruption will end with President Jonathan's government. Nigerians deserve better. These cabals know we have a toothless president but they are yet to see the reward for their sabotage

Ps: I think Ifeanyi Uba is only being sensible and smart, they probably have got wind of the hurricane that will sweep them away in the coming weeks and it only makes sense to sacrifice and stay in business. These country hijackers haven't seen anything yet
cheesy bro...deregularization would have saved us the pain of this long article...

NLC started a protest which was hijacked by political parties...and later culminated in deaths...

You cannot fight corruption when you have no evidence because inasmuch as you know the marketer shortchanged you but how do you prove it beyond doubt in court....These things by marketers are just too easy to divert and make double profit.....

Our experience in fertilizer abi agricultural sector would have been same here if Jonathan had succeeded with subsidy removal....

Most times, we become too sentimental that we lose our head....

Now, proffer solutions that are better than what Jonathan did....say the what and how plz

To buttress your points, the partial subsidy removal that eventually took place, were the promised palliatives provided?

The SURE-P program, as has been revealed just last week that the employee figure was inflated from 12k to 35k, is another evidence of the scam.

The buses that were promised, where are they today? The refineries, where are they?

Bottom line:
1. I believe there was no true subsidy in the first instance. What we had was an imaginary subsidy.

2. If there truly was subsidy, GEJ could have handled the removal in a more responsible manner than just announcing through the radio, on January 1st 2012, that subsidy was removed. No where in the whole world will such action go unchallenged. He needed to have discussed it with major stakeholders the need to remove subsidy. Ibb, Abach and even OBJ removed some subsidy and we witnessed how they handled it.

3. Nigerians, by rejecting the subsidy, were able to reduce/limit their loss had we allowed full subsidy removal.

4. Now that majority of Nigerians believe we have a more trust-worthy president in Buhari, they will accept a subsidy removal (if there was any) provided they know what they'd get in returns in predetermined dates.
Who inflated those figures if its true bro?
Jonathan brought buses for mass transit and was given to each state...what did you state do with theirs?

What we know is subsidy scam, remove d scam,we wil buy d idea of subsidy removal.

This is what you get when a particular section of any country is used to freeloading.

The marketers simply bamboozled them and they protested against their own future . grin

Jonathan shouldn't pay any dime, let the olodo General they so much loved pay up and see what our Jona was passing through in the hands of these criminal marketers ,and again has anyone bothered to ask why is it that most of these marketers are from a particular section of the country ?
Nigeria needs serious restructuring abeg before we go for each other's jugular.

My brother, the problem with the subsidy regime is troubling. However, removing it comes with challenges because the marketers will use the opportunity to rip us. We have no refinery, we have problem of mass transit, we have electricity p®oblem and all these wÍll affect the economy and businesses if the subsidy is removed overnight without fixing some of these things. Yes, the subsidy has to go but we should put mechanism in place for smooth removal. Sadly, our system is so flawed and corruption at every level is so pronounced. I supported the protest then but I wanted a deal that will see gradual removal while things are put in place. But what are we getting?

I blame the Government for not doing what they ought to. I also blame the Marketers for being fraudulent and insensitive. The public too should be blamed for not knowing what they want. Most importantly, I blame the clueless labour
When the situation at NITEL became irredeemable and it was opened up, were we ripped off?

There's always a regulatory agency to monitor arbitrary price increase...

Government can always support or indirectly control the prices by doing some retail through their own mega stations too...

Mass transit was started by Jonathan then...what happened to those buses and their operators?...corruption is deep in Nigeria DNA including the poor people...

Nigeria and Nigerians seems to be confused today which way to go thanks to fuel scarcity. And one begins to wonder how can a mother that has big restaurant with numerous customers daily have her children die of starvation?...This is the fate of Nigeria today albeit painful.

Unfortunately, we allowed most of the problems we see today by our actions and inactions. We are a people easily manipulated and bulldozed with propaganda and lies. We are simply smart by half...We refuse to look beyond our noses; while policy formations of government are supported based on; (a) Who's talking?...(b) What party is he?...(c) What tribe is he?...(d) What religion?...(e)Does it benefit me at least for today?...and other such myopic considerations...At the end, good policy formations are sacrificed at the altar of partisanship. And we keep complaining as usual...

Today a group not sufficient to form a kindred are holding us ransom and we groan with little option in view. They engage in business with no risk, because we the people through government bear and pay for all the risks involved in their line of business...What a business line to be in...Even exchange rate differentials are borne by government for them; hence their singular obligation here is to smile to banks at our detriment.

Jonathan cried and pleaded that we extricate ourselves from this people by removing subsidy in January, 2012; but unfortunately we chose to support these greedy businessmen than our president. Deregulation of that sector was killed. And all attendant problems continued.

Yes, today we still cry corruption in oil sector, bureaucracy, and scarcity occasioned by hoarding of products as well as round tripping of products. All these problems to me would have ended if we supported Jonathan in 2012 to deregulate that sector and open it up to competition and transparent undertakings. We rather supported the "cabal". Now, the poor is subsidizing the rich. Business of oil is undertaken with no risk by the businessmen. We choose to kill a proactive measure by Jonathan that would have cleaned and opened up that sector. Partisanship defined our actions than patriotism.

Which way Nigeria?... Yes, we still shift blame to Jonathan as the president. But what was your role in 2012 subsidy wahala?...Because all these problems could have been averted but we chose otherwise. By refusing deregulation, we supported and fed these monsters of a cabal.

Thanks to Ifeanyi Ubah(Capital Oil); that chose to save us now by opening up his tank farms and jetties. But for how long can we continue like this? Do you cure typhoid fever by simply taking care of the headache?...

ACN/CPC now APC fought against subsidy removal. I hope they keep their words and keep feeding these few. At least we can always borrow more to pay the cabals in case we have no money domestically again...thanks

I am not one of your sentimental quasi-analysts encumbered with vindictive bile which suppresses their rational abilities. Jonathan robbed this country broke and no words should be minced in stating this fact. The call for a probe is to determine the extent and degree of his misdemeanors which will inform the measures that will be taken to mitigate the effects, and determine appropriate punishment for the kleptomaniac.

Your inability to synthesize Jonathan's many failures and it's adverse effects on your life and that of other Nigerians for sentimental and perhaps sadistic reasons speaks volumes about your reasoning capacity and unfortunately skewed value system.

This will be very good for democracy. I don't care who is involved, whether APC or PDP, I just want the government to set a precedence that says "if you're caught stealing, no mercy".. It's digusting that people would embezzle money when there are very legitimate ways of making money if you're privileged to be close to government. This country is useless without enforcement of law. I don't give a damn about party affiliation, anyone who is culpable should pay the price...
Believe me, I support such measure 100%...but APC won't allow me because any comprehensive probe will bring its leaders to their knees. Check the dark period of our history and names attached to them and see their party...

Jonathan should be probed and punished, nothing will happen, the heavens will not fall. How can we be serious about turning around our travails as a country if we still cannot be objective enough to do what is right without sentiments. The argument that he should be left alone as past leaders were not probed, lacks all validity because;

1. No one restrained him from doing so, his failure to do so effectively underlines his incompetence;

2. Show me a past Nigerian leader that left the coffers empty AND plunged us in a N13 Trillion debt.
This one already convicted Jonathan even before any probe cheesy so much for smart Nigerians...

The fact is that for any nation to move in the right direction and progress toward real development, each and every government must be held accountable for her actions and inactions. Only when people realize that they will be called to answer for their deeds and misdeeds would they behave reasonably.

I know many TANoids will argue that for Buhari to probe GEJ or any of his ministers, he must first probe IBB, OBJ and many before GEJ. What they are not mindful of is the fact that President Buhari cannot probe all but he is morally obliged to look into actions of his immediate predecessors and not all before him.

If he does this, Nigeria will have taken a very giant step in moving towards accountability.
I support a COMPREHENSIVE probe of Jonathan administration from 2010-2015...Throw the cards open and let the world judge...ALL offenders should rot in jail...

cheesy Believe me, all the people you wish to see in jail may most likely come out unscathed while most APC drivers and consultants will be culpable...Remember, Jonathan dared buhari to probe that he isn't afraid of probe...

The delight of this festive period is going to be lost to workers in about 27
states of the federation, but more especially those in Benue, Ondo, Osun, and
Oyo State Civil Service, as they celebrate in groans and tears over unpaid
salaries of several months by the state government.
While others in other organizations go home smiling with bags of rice and other
take home allowance, this festive period seems bleak and faded for workers in
these three states as the government of the state has ignored them all.
Workers in Ondo state embarked on strike on Thursday over the unpaid salary
of three months by the state government and threatened to shut down
Mimiko’s Government.
Same is said in Osun State where workers rely largely on salaries; there is also
a pause in commercial activities in the State because of non-payment of civil
servants’ salaries for months in the state.
In Ogun State where the civil service workers have been unpaid for months,
there have been lamentations and demands that their salaries should be paid
regularly rather than the staggered mode of payments which is causing them
pain during this festive period.
Meanwhile, in Oyo state, where the government also owes workers of the state,
the state Secretary Chief Michael Koleso escaped by whiskers when protesting
angry civil servants almost mobbed him on Monday over their overdue unpaid
salaries. It always reported that daughters of the state Governor Ajimobi have
been involved in ostentatious display of wealth by buying expensive dresses,
with each of them worth a whooping sum of N3million, for a British Fashion
Award while state workers languish in lack and penury.
