Sorelee: its a tier 2 school but if you want to be sure its a good school you should consider these things:
For a school to be categorized has a good school it should have both Educational quality and Reputation.
So have you made your findings about the school faculty? You see What is best for a particular student depends entirely on their specific goals. The particular strength of any program in a school will depend on the areas of expertise represented by its faculty members. if no one in that department is an expert in the particular subfield in which you want to specialized, then that particular program in that school probably will not help you reach your goals.
Does this school have a selective acceptance rate? or admission is an easy ride?
have you checked the alumni network strength of that school? Is there a line of successful alumni from the school?
you can check one of this reliable source for the school reputation ranking
Usnews & world Report
Times Higher Educational World University Ranking
You should also use "National Center for Educational Statistics College Navigator"
this tool is designed to help students find out about the institution Graduation rates, Accreditation and other stuffs
You may also be able to discover schools that are under fire by checking the "Us Department of Educational Heightened Cash Monitoring list"
on the list you will find compliance issues that may include accreditation problems, concerns about administrative capabilities and denial of recertification if your school is on the list then it is a definite warning sign of a bad reputation for students
So find out about all these things and then you can say for your self if its a good school or not Thanks bro... All you have said is perfect !! |

Sorelee: All this agent schools lol if I talk now person go say Na Absolute nonesense lol. This school is not even going to make me say anything about the transcript Dear Sorelee, I will say this but please don't take it off with me , you among the few guys on this thread that deserves some accolades for your continuous effort towards educating people like me here and I won't lie(lasisielenu voice) I have benefited from every little thing you guys have said and still learning. Furthermore, I will like to draw your attention with what happened few days back about the issue with low ranked schools bla bla bla . which you totally don't fall in tune with which is very correct .but I will like to inform you that most of this things are not people fault and though you can blame it on lack of information. They are here to meet gurus Like you to feed them with of information I will still want you to keep your comment intact here because me in particular I'm a fan and its seems you guys don't know much this has changed so many lives on here . Please don't stop your good work irrespective of any argument you can have on this thread and keep sharing information and ideals .. theamerican: You didn't prepare well for your interview, simple. Don't let anyone tell you your visa was denied because your school was unpopular/unranked. That's absolute nonsense. Once a school is SEVP certified to sponsor/enroll/admit (use any other word) international students, you can get a visa with that school! THE END.
Now, before replying, I googled GGU and read some stuff about it. I compared what I read to what you answered and I shook my head. Choosing a school like that over the other thousands of schools in the U.S for the reason you gave was NOT good enough. If you doubt me, read the wiki page of that school and you'll see that there would have been better reasons for choosing the school over what you wrote.
Check accreditations, rankings, and alumni. You'll see that there's nothing wrong with the school. You chose a private university in downtown San Francisco. I'd also wonder why/how your sister's willing to commit to sponsoring you there and if you'd be stuck. It's gonna be expensive AF despite getting the 18k scholarship. Again, I don't know how old you are or how old your child is, all these things could also play into the mind of the VO. Can't say for sure.
Always remember, your sister is not your spouse, parent or child. Those are people considered to have enough "stake" in your life to sponsor you through thick and thin. It'd be different if you were an unmarried relative of that sister. You're married and with a kid, a VO doesn't see you as the responsibility of the sister. She's not legally responsible for your welfare. A VO would trust your spouse or parent to give you $100 than your sibling or other relatives to give you $5.
See? I could go on and on about what could have influenced the decision of the VO and you'd see the countless possibilities. It could have been anything, and it's the reason I always stress being over-prepared.
Now that we've tried to cover what could have gone wrong, let's see how you can fix it. For a start, you can contact the graduate coordinators or any other faculty of that school and ask them why their school is a better proposition and try to make them tell you the sense in committing a fortune to studying there than anywhere else. You'd be surprised at what you'd learn from them. Add this to other information you read online and work on convincing a VO that you really know what you're doing and not making a mistake AND PRACTISE MORE!
Whether it's GGU or Harvard University, burden is on you to do enough to change a VO's mind and make them approve your visa. A VO sees you and is thinking: "this one is an intending immigrant" and has 1,001 reasons to deny your application. It is your duty to have 1002 reasons to change their mind.
I'm glad you're a lawyer, get down to work and prepare better. You can still get that visa. It just wouldn't come easy based on the factors that are already against you. You can get a visa with a SEVP certified school, you can get a visa with your sister as a sponsor, and you can get a visa irrespective of your age, marital status or number of children you have.
Disclaimer: This is an opinion given after eating honey butter chicken biscuits. Do NOT mistake it for legal advice. Fantastic, I think I said this also , the interview was going on well but her sponsor was not just strong enough to convince the VO ..Most of the time peepls here says the school bla bla bla , but in this forum we have seen VO give visa to a one building school because he can convince the VO .. Its about proper planning ! @ Mr sorelee ,I'm not also disputing the fact that you are also right but I think she should try again ..Honestly ,I see her getting the VIsa .. Well said Mr theamerican |

nwendujudy: Visa denied. Lagos. Post 2. 6am Interview lasted for about 6 to 7 minutes
Me: Good morning VO: no answer, pass me your passport and I 20 Me: Gave her
VO: why did you choose this school? Me: I chose GGU because GGU has this curriculum that suits my career goals in this sense that offer students this environmental law and justice clinic whereby students get to work under attorneys and other US agencies(names one agency) while they study gaining rich practical experience on environmental Law. Then secondly GGU offered me a merit scholarship of 18000 dollars ( She was just starring at me)
VO: which program are you going for?
Me: masters degree on environmental Law
VO: (Cuts in) LLM on environmental law so what will this degree do for you?
Me: This degree upon my return to Nigeria will score me a job as legal officer with Nigerian Federal Environmental Protection Agency, then secondly when you look at PORT Harcourt where I live, there's a lot of ongoing environmental pollution cases and most of these victims are masses who can't afford to pay a lawyer,so I intend to set up a service oriented NGO in ph where these victims could be offered free access to justice and I believe that a good knowledge of this course will go a long way in equipping me.
VO:How many schools did you apply to?
Me 3 schools
VO: what's your highest qualification?
Me: BL... Barrister at Law
VO: Are you married Me: Sure am married
VO: Any children?
Me: Yes I have one child,a son
VO: who is paying the rest of the tuition:
Me: My elder sister(calls her name)
VO: why did you chose this sponsor? Me: Because she's been the one paying my tuition since secondary, university and Law school, she's like a mother to me
VO: sorry I won't....(hands me a blue paper and my passport
Me: Thanks
Please the gurus in this house should help me look at this, add or subtract where applicable. I actually prepared well for my interview and my interest is a bit dampened which is not too good for me. I have a virgin passport which I have had since January 2014.
I am looking at reapplying but don't know what to state as the reason for the previous denial/what has changed in my application. I wouldn't also mind a mock interview Personally, I think you had issues when you said your Elder sister will be Paying for your studies !! its wasn't convincing enough at all ! A married woman depending on your Elder sister is not strong enough ! What of your Husband and co ? I think that was the major reason why you where denied not because of the school .The interview was going well before you threw everything away ! My advice try again and find a better reason !! My advice |

temmitats: why not inform them of the strike and explain how it wouldn't be possible for you to get an official transcript sent at this time, with probably evidence of the strike( a snapshot of a news headline). If on the other hand they indicated right from the start that they don't accept unofficial transcripts then that's a fault on your end. I have sent an official transcript and they are requesting for another one again!!! I have called her 1 million times today.. she's doesn't want to pick up... I sent two messages today already telling her there's nation wide strike in Nigeria. she's just sending me the same message.. saying I have to send another official transcript... my admission is on hold!!!! |

Hello my people, I'm in a very sad situation and it's really frustrating that I have been on this admission since June for spring and it's seems everything is falling apart for me!! I have a Bsc in Agricultural science from Funaab and I have applied to at least 6 schools and due to my lack of information I applied to some schools who's admission was either needed WES evaluation or GRE. But I recently applied to Arkansas State University and Murray State University and I just got a message from Murray State University saying and I quote " There have been some discrepancies with some transcripts that's why I ask you to have the Transcripts sent again directly to me. My address is below.." and Arkansas State University saying they are waiting for my bank to confirm the amount in my Father's account!!! I need advice people from here... ASUU is on strike and I have sent my official transcript to the schools before the strike and asking for another is really shocking to me and there is no time any more... please what advise do you guys have for me... I'm really down I can't even eat self!!! my head is very heavy and hot.. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and asking it all like this is really sad for me... please help me... undergraduate degree 3.24/5.0 and TOEFL 91 ...any school I can apply with no transcript? I have on-official transcript with me!!! Help me guys |

lasthero: Yes, I was about asking this question too.
When they said official transcript evaluated by evaluation body.
Is it that I will send the transcript from my school to the evaluation body? That's very correct! You will have your transcript send to the evaluation body through your undergraduate school!! I doubt it... if you still have time to apply to spring because evaluation takes months.. if I'm not mistaken, so you have to think if you really want to do this |

lasthero: Hello Good day.
I once posted on part 11 seeking for schools that offers masters in chemistry education in USA with cheap tuition fees and I appreciate all the support and responses.
Now, I have selected some schools in mind who has my course at graduate level which Alcorn state University is one of them and I have registered for GRE which I have started practicing.
Just today when I was surfing through the pages of Alcorn state University Mississippi website, I discovered that GRE isn't a requirement for my course. The only things required are toefl or ielts, 2 recommendedation letter, education license, and my transcript.
The same is applicable to the second school which is my second choice.
Do you still advise that I go ahead with my GRE preparations?, or I should forget about GRE and start practicing for toefl or ielts?.
For the license, I have already applied for it.
Attached is the requirement page of my course in Alcorn.
Thanks as I await your replies.

Hushee: Some schools are very funny with the way they handle their evaluation, an Admission Officer in one of the schools that rejected my application showed me how they evaluate transcript and it was so direct and I was left disappointed by them. He said a cgpa of 3.18/5 will be calculated as 3.18/5×4, which will come out as 2.54/4. So, as others have said it will be in your best interest to go for an official evaluation as soon as possible. @Hushee I don send you PM... I think you should enlighten us more about those schools, so that future and aspring graduate student don't fall on this trap.. I also just applied to Arkansas State University and About to pay application fee for Murray State University too .. or do you guys knows if the schools mentioned above does that?
