The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed says the on-going face-off between national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole and minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige will be resolved amicably. The minister gave the assurance when he fielded questions from State House correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, July 25. The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiohmole, had on July 23 threatened to expel the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, or any minister who failed to inaugurate members of board of parastatals under their supervision from the party. HOLD FOR STORY BY MICHAEL SISAK Wendy Jaffe, the former executive vice president of legal affairs for Lionsgate Entertainment, talks during an interview, Tuesday, July 24, 2018, in New York. Jaffe, a former lawyer at the movie studio behind “The Hunger Games,” says a powerful boss she once viewed as a father figure demanded she be his slave and subjected her to nonconsensual sexual contact. (AP Photo/Mark Lennihan) (Copyright 2018 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.) A former lawyer at the movie studio behind “The Hunger Games” and the “Twilight” films said a powerful boss she once viewed as a father figure demanded she be his slave and subjected her to nonconsensual sexual contact. She said she stayed quiet about it for years because she feared losing her job and never working in entertainment again. Wendy Jaffe, the former executive vice president of legal affairs at Lionsgate, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that her mind often shifted to “minimizing damage” and a mode she described as “spinning plates” to quickly come up with ways to stop general counsel Wayne Levin without humiliating him. “I remember feeling like my head was spinning, and I’m sort of outside myself and I immediately went to the mode of spinning plates,” Jaffe said, describing one of the earliest alleged encounters, in 2002. “I started to question: ‘How could this be happening? What did I do to make him think this was going to be OK?’” she continued, echoing the early reactions of many women who’ve spoken up about sexual misconduct since the #MeToo movement exploded last October. “And if I embarrass him, I’m in trouble. My career is over.” Jaffe finally complained about Levin as she left Lionsgate in 2016 and has only told her story publicly in recent days, first to The Wall Street Journal and then in an on-camera interview with AP. Lionsgate agreed to pay Jaffe a $2.5 million settlement. Jaffe said her departure came with top executives making false and disparaging statements about her to prevent her from finding another job and fully vested stock options she was entitled to suddenly being removed from her account. Her lawyers complained that those tactics constituted a violation of a settlement agreement that kept a lid on the reasons for her exit. Levin’s lawyer said they’re not discussing Jaffe’s allegations in the press. Lionsgate, which noted Levin’s departure “for health and personal reasons” in a November 2017 regulatory filing, said it doesn’t comment on specific personnel actions. In a statement, the studio said it takes sexual harassment allegations seriously, investigating them thoroughly and taking appropriate remedial action. “We are committed to a safe, respectful and tolerant environment for all of our employees,” the studio said. Jaffe, 46, met Levin, 55, in 1997 while she was a student at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. Levin taught an entertainment law class and hired her as a law clerk in his office at Trimark Pictures, a small studio that Lionsgate acquired in 2000. Jaffe said Levin started blurring the lines of their professional relationship about four years into her tenure. He would flirt and pepper conversations with sexual innuendo, she said. The harassment started in 2001, and the physical assaults started about a year later, she said. One day, while he was out of the office, she said he asked her to poke around his desk for some paperwork, but all she found was a briefcase full of Polaroid photographs of naked women in various sexual positions. “That was when I first started to think that this was going in the wrong direction and had just taken a huge leap forward in the wrong direction,” Jaffe said. One night when they were both working late at the office, Jaffe said, Levin led her to a room the size of a walk-in closet and told her “he wanted me to be his slave and he wanted me on my knees to crawl to him.” Jaffe said Levin’s alleged behavior led to rumors around the Lionsgate office that they were having an affair, which led to bullying from her colleagues. When the sexual abuse stopped in 2003, Jaffe said, Levin exerted his power and control over her in other ways like loading her up with so much work it escalated her blood pressure to the point of cardiac distress. “When you’re the head of the legal department, you’re supposed to set the tone for what is ethical, what is responsible and what is lawful,” Jaffe said. “When you don’t, when you flagrantly choose not to, that sends a message.” The Associated Press contributed to this report. http://wepublicisenaija.com/film-studio-lawyer-says-boss-harassed-assaulted-her-as-his-slave |

Bobrisky who now refers to himself as a she, seems to have a thing for bright coloured hairs. He switched up his looks once again by rocking a neon lemon weave. As though to match his hair, the edged of the ruffled skirt which is rocked with an off-shoulder long sleeve crop top, also had neon lemon coloured edges. – Health experts have blamed increase in deaths among youths on too much alcohol intake – The experts, spearheaded by the University of Michigan, said that young persons within the age group of 25-34 years are mostly affected by liver diseases caused by uncontrolled consumption of alcohol – As a way of curbing the trend, the team recommended that governments should discourage adverts that promote alcoholic beverages Foreign health researchers have blamed most liver diseases on the increasing consumption of alcohol, adding that this has brought about high mortality, especially in the western world. . A team of health experts led by the University of Michigan recently discovered that deaths due to cirrhosis (a severe liver disease) is on the rise in the United States (US). A report published by the team indicated that an increasing number of people acquire cirrhosis because of too much intake of alcohol, Premium Times reports. Elliott Trapper, the lead researcher, who is also a liver specialist from the famed institution, and his colleague, Neehar Parikh, revealed that in 1999-2016 the number of deaths caused by cirrhosis has been on the rise in 49 out of 50 states. The researchers found that death caused by cirrhosis have gone up by 65 per cent and alcohol use is a prominent cause of late stage liver diseases. Regrettably, as the report show, the most affected population are the youths, stressing that adults within the age bracket of 25-34 from America-India and Hispanic are prone to the killer disease. The study further showed that the highest average rise in cirrhosis-related deaths annually was seen among young adults at an approximately 10.5 per cent rise each year. Tapper stated that they thought they would see improvement when it comes to the number of deaths due to liver diseases, “but these data make it clear. Even after hepatitis C, we will still have our work cut out for us. “There has been an improved treatment of hepatitis C and this was expected to reflect on the number of deaths related to liver diseases. We suspect that there is a connection between increased alcohol use and unemployment associated with global financial crisis. But more research is needed,” he said. During the seven-year period of the study, 460,760 cirrhosis related deaths occurred. Of these, approximately one third were due to a type of liver cancer called ‘hepatocellular carcinoma’. This stems from cirrhosis. Parikh warns that the rapid rise in liver deaths underscores gaps in care and opportunities for prevention. The researchers said that the states where most cirrhosis deaths have been recorded are Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas, and New Mexico. Only Maryland indicated a decrease in liver disease-related. They also said that liver disease due to alcohol consumption is entirely preventable, urging states to implement strategic measures, such as the implementation of alcohol taxes, and placing limitation on adverts that propagate alcoholic beverages. http://wepublicisenaija.com/why-youths-between-25-34-years-are-dying-of-liver-diseases-foreign-health-researchers-release-new-revelation |

A man identified as Henry Anaele has been remanded in prison by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court for beating his wife to death over N200 gift she collected from an individual. The Chief Magistrate, O.O. Olatunji, said the accused should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public prosecutions (DPP). Mr Anaele, 40, whose plea was not taken, had appeared on a charge for murder. Earlier, a police inspector, Cousin Adams, told the court that the accused had committed the offence on June 15, at about 11.45 p.m, at No. 72, Goodness Estate, Satellite Town, Lagos. Mr Adams said that the accused had found out that someone gave his wife– Chinyere, 35, the sum of N200, which did not go down well with him. And upon questioning her, he claimed she could not give any tangible answer as to why she would accept the money from the giver. “This angered the accused who beat up his wife to death for collecting the money. He made an attempt to escape but was apprehended by neigbours and then handed over to the police’’ he said. The offence contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which prescribes a death sentence for offenders. The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 6. http://wepublicisenaija.com/140650/man-beats-wife-to-death-for-accepting-a-gift-of-n200.html |

Aishatu Jibril Dukku, a house of representatives member, representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the green chamber disclosed why their cows are very important to them. Dukku during plenary on herdsmen attacks, said Fulani herdsmen value lives of their cows more than their own lives. Aisha told the house that too much consumption of maggi, has made Nigerians so impatient to their problems. She advised government authorities to proffer a workable solution in favour of the herdsmen. “You can’t sit down and make conclusions on herdsmen. Yes, they values life of their cows more than even their own lives because that is how God has created them. “Nigerians have become so edgy these days, maybe because of the food we eat, maybe because we eat too much of maggi. “We have become so impatient that’s why we don’t listen to each other. “We don’t want to proffer solution that will be workable to our country.” However, criticising her colleague for saying God created the Fulani herdsman to value a cow’s life more than his own’s life, the lawmaker representing the Ado/Obadigbo/Opkokwu Constituency in Benue State, Mr. Hassan Saleh, replied; “No cow, not even 10 billion cows, has enough value like a human being. So when you say God has created them [herdsmen] in such a manner that they value their cows more than human beings, I find that very insulting and demeaning.” Likewise, the President of the Mdzough U Tiv, Chief Edward Ujege, faulted Dukku, saying it couldn’t be true that God made Fulani herdsmen to value their cows’ lives more than human beings’ lives. http://wepublicisenaija.com/140520/this-young-nigerian-man-says-he-values-his-300-cows-more-than-3000000-useless-people.html |

Ex-Super Eagles midfielder, Wilson Oghenekevwe Oruma has opened up on his travail in the hands of fraudsters who duped him of about N2billion in his bid to establish himself after retiring from active football. Speaking about it for the first time with the Guardian, he confirmed the sad incident and revealed some of his relations were involved in the deal that saw him lose close to N2 billion. “This is my first time of speaking with any journalist on this,’ he said. “It is true that I lost all my savings to some people, who turned out to be fraudsters. I have read several stories in the media since then. Those stories did not emanate from me. They quoted different amount, which is not correct. I lost close to N2 billion.” “The most painful aspect of it all was the fact that some of my relations were involved in the deal. You can imagine losing such huge amount of money to people you trusted. I pray for them to have a human heart and return my money, even if it is part of it. That is my prayer every day, and I know that one day, the hand of God will torch their hearts,”he added. http://wepublicisenaija.com/140431/ex-super-eagles-player-wilson-oruma-finally-speaks-on-loss-of-n2-billion-to-fraudsters.html
