The Niger State police command has arrested a 20-year-old housewife, Zulac Kabiru, for allegedly killing the child of her husband’s second wife, at Mariga Local Government Area of the State.

Zulac reportedly poisoned the eight-month-old baby with a locally-made insecticide popularly known as, ‘ota piapia.’

The suspect while confessing to the crime told Punch, that she poisoned the baby to hurt her husband’s second wife, Rukaiya for assaulting her.

She said “I warned my husband against marrying another wife, but he didn’t listen. The second wife was in the habit of insulting and assaulting me at all times and one day, I decided to poison her eight-month-old daughter to increase her sorrow; so that she will learn how to respect her superiors in the family. Before my husband married her, I kicked against the move.

” We have been living in peace but when she came, she divided the family. My husband gave her more attention and since then our family has been in shambles.

“It was the work of the devil; I didn’t know when I did it, it was a wicked act,” she said.

Confirming the incident, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, added that the suspect would be arraigned in court after full investigation.

It was reported that Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led the race on Saturday with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than Oyetola Of All Progressive Congress (APC)

The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where voting was canceled.

Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive.

Tomorrow, Thursday 27th September 2018 has been fixed for the rerun of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the affected areas.

A nine-year-old girl identified as Benedict Uzo has been killed by the flood disaster in Amiyi, Ogbaru council of Anambra State.

The Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mr Arinze Awogu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the deceased drowned while fetching water with a bucket.

He said, ‘’Benedict’s 11-year-old elder sister who tried to rescue her almost lost her life too but was quickly rescued by neighbours.

“The flood situation in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State has continued to take a turn for the worst and Ogbaru has lost two persons since it started.

‘’The latest casualty is a nine-year-old Miss Uzo Benedict Onyebuchukwu, a primary 3 pupil of Light International School, Okoti.

“The father of the victim, Mr. Izuchukwu Uzo told me that his daughter was swept away by the flood as she attempted to fetch water with her bucket.”

The chairman urged residents staying around areas prone to flood to move to safer areas or the Internally Displaced Persons Camp (IDPC).

He said, “We need better equipped hospital to enable us manage this emergency.

“It is a sad moment for us, we assure the family of our solidarity and support in this time of grief.

”I promise to inform His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano about the loss.

UYO—Barely a week after All Progressives Congress, APC, gave the Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere, the nod to contest September 29, 2018 governorship primaries, his campaign posters have flooded Uyo, the state capital and its environs.

Besides, magnificent and stunning billboards soliciting votes for him to emerge as the next governor of the oil-rich state with #Akawibomcandobetter have been erected in some strategic locations within the state capital.

But the state government through the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources has already moved against what it described as indiscriminate hoisting and installation of billboards in the state.

The state Commissioner for Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr. Iniobong Essien, said the measure was aimed at ensuring sanity in outdoor advertising and directed all the companies to stop further hoisting of new billboards across the state.

The commissioner said: “In an effort to stem the arbitrary installation of billboard structures, which have become hazardous to members of the public, the Government of Akwa Ibom State, through Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, hereby directs all outdoor advertising companies to immediately stop the hoisting and installation of new billboards across the state.

“All outdoor advertising companies operating in the state are hereby requested to submit an inventory of their billboards with relevant registration, drawing and approval within one week from the date of this announcement. Failure to comply will attract appropriate sanction.”

Reacting, a source in Nsima Ekere Campaign Organisation, who spoke on condition of anonymit, alleged that the state government was jittery about Obong Ekere’s entry into the governorship race and was bringing up the “obnoxious and discriminatory policy to forestall the mounting of new billboards by political opponents with a view to scuttling their campaigns.”

The victim in the alleged rape trial of Chief Perekeme Kpodo, a former Security Adviser to former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, has testified before a Bayelsa High Court, giving vivid accounts of how she was raped by her boss (Kpodo).

The 26-year-old lady (name withheld) on Friday testified along with her uncle and a medical doctor who examined her on June 9, 2018, a day after she was allegedly abused sexually.

In her testimony at the court, the victim said that she was invited by the accused (her boss) to his office in the hotel about 8pm on the fateful day where he locked the doors and forcefully overpowered her and raped her.

She said Kpodo had threatened her that he was the brain behind the Famou Tangbe (a dreadful security outfit’ under ex-governor Sylva and advised her to yield to his demand in her own interest.

The victim, who narrated her experience before the court, broke down in tears and subsequently forced the judge to suspend the hearing twice to enable her to regain composure.

She said that the accused person had been making indecent sexual approaches to her before the incident.

The victim stated, “I was employed as a cashier by Kpodo, the owner of the hotel. Whenever I went to submit cash to him, he usually touched me. I did not like the way he used to touch me. So, I reported it to the employment agency that helped me secure the job, and they advised me to talk to him to stop it.

“I talked to him that it was a sin and that I did not like the way he used to touch me any time I went to his off. After my protest, he stopped for some time. But after some time, he started again. That fateful day, he locked up the door and raped me. I shouted and also pleaded and he said he would not leave me until he was satisfied with me.

“So, when he finished, he asked me to clean myself and to bring his food. He did not use a condom and I was injured. He removed my pair of trousers and I kept struggling with him until he finished.

“I called my uncle who is a policeman and he came and took me home. The next day, we went to report to the incident to the Police and they gave me a medical report form which I took to a hospital.

“The hospital conducted tests, including HIV test on me and thereafter prescribed some drugs which I have been taking.”

Recall that Kpodo was on July 31, 2018, arraigned for alleged rape at State High Court 7 in Yenagoa.

Kpodo was charged with two counts of unlawful detention and rape of the victim, a 26-year-old female cashier at the hotel owned and run by the accused person.

At the resumed trial of the case, the trial judge, Justice E. Eradiri, listened to the testimony of a medical practitioner, Dr. Ikenna Nwanna, who examined the victim after she was allegedly raped.

Nwanna, a medical practitioner from the Diete Koko Memorial Hospital, Opolo, Yenagoa, told the court that the patient complained of pains in her pubic area and walked with difficulty when she came to the clinic on June 9, 2018.

The doctor said, “The patient complained that she was raped by her boss and I examined her in the presence of a female nurse. There were bruises in her vulva and due to the pains she did not allow me to touch her vaginal area.

“There were also whitish discharge which I suspect to be semen, although I did not conduct any further tests, the observations tallied with her complaint of violent sexual assault.”

Council chairman of Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State, Barr. Clement Odoh at the weekend accused the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government of President Muhammadu Buhari of domesticating corruption in Nigeria.

Odoh, who made this known while interacting with journalists in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi state, equally alleged that Nigeria cannot survive another four years under the ruling APC government.

He said: “The two major things the APC campaigned against the former President, Goodluck Jonathan: is the issue of corruption and insecurity but it is regrettable that the same problems are now the order of the day.

“President Buhari presented the picture that he is the Messiah, that when he comes corruption will be killed and insecurity will be brought to a stand still. And it turnout that we were offered a mirage. Since the APC took over the federal government, corruption has grown geometrically.

“Corruption has become a culture and in the other hand, insecurity has grown to a greater proportion, such that Nigerians are frustrated and nobody is talking about insecurity because they are tired of complaining.

“People are witnessing a high level of frustration and tiredness about the whole thing happening under this administration. Indeed, we are in a failed nation under this administration.

“Nigerians are in need of someone who will rescue them from APC. They believe that it would come from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 2019 general election. The damage and injuries inflected on the people of this country for the past three years ago are too high.”

The council chairman noted that Nigerians have suffered so much pains and have nothing to celebrate under the President Buhari administration.

“The only solution to this problems is PDP. Nigeria cannot survive for another four years under APC. However, there is nothing to celebrate under APC except in the negative. And that is the truth about the situation in Nigeria,” he added.

The Senator representing Kano-Central in the National Assembly, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost in the 2015 presidential election, because they fielded only one candidate.

Speaking on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Kwankwaso boasted that the party’s chance of victory in next year’s election, was high based on the number of aspirants in the presidential race compared to that of 2015.

He said, “In 2015, PDP had only one candidate and it lost the election. If you look at it statistically, from 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011, PDP had very competitive (aspirants) at primary elections and was winning the general elections in those election years.

“

But in 2015, it decided to print only one form for one person and it lost the election”.

Kwankwanso who is also a presidential aspirant in the PDP, also claimed many PDP members left for the All Progressive Congress (APC) after the 2015 general elections, because of impunity.

“PDP, in my opinion, learnt its lessons. In 2015, PDP was very arrogant and believed that whatever happens, they would win the elections.

“They never thought that an incumbent could lose the election. They had at that time, some level of impunity that many of us felt that was not the best way to handle the government, the party and of course the country.

“That was why we decided to defect to the APC, mobilised the people and at the end of the day, we won the election,” the former Kano Governor added.

US rap mogul, Marion “Suge” Knight has pleaded no contest to a voluntary manslaughter charge over a hit-and-run accident in 2015.

According to the BBC, the Death Row Records founder made the plea to avoid charges of murdering of one man and attempting to murder a second with his pick-up truck in Los Angeles.

The incident happened after an argument over the making of Straight Outta Compton, a biopic about rap group NWA.

Knight will be formally sentenced to 28 years in prison in October.

His record label helped launch the careers of artists including Dr Dre, Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg.

Under Californian state law, a no contest plea is the legal equivalent of a guilty plea.

As part of the agreement, the murder charges against Knight, 53, will be dismissed by prosecutors, along with separate criminal cases charging him with robbery and making criminal threats.

The deal, in which Knight admitted using a “deadly and dangerous weapon” when he ran down two men with his vehicle, calls for him to serve 22 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter with a further six years because of the US “three-strikes” law relating to repeated violations.

Had Knight been found guilty of murder as originally charged, he would have faced life in prison, prosecutors said.

A human rights activist and an Abuja-based lawyer, Oleka Udenze, has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

They were dragged to the court over a planned military operation tagged Operation Python Dance 3 in the five South-East states.

Also joined in the suit are Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Abayomi Gabriel Olanisakin and the Chief of Army staff, COAS, General Tukur Buratai.

The lawyer is praying the court to determine, “Whether having regards to the provision of sections 1 (1) and (3) of Armed Forces Act, Cap A20, laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, the defendants are conferred with the statutory power to deploy soldiers and officers of the Nigeria Army to the streets of the South-East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and lmo, without the approval of the National Assembly other than for purposes related to or connected with its statutorily prescribed powers and functions.

“Whether in the light of the provision of section 42 (1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) the defendants’ deployment of soldiers to the South-East states is discriminatory and amounts to a gross violation of the constitution.

“Whether having regards to the facts, exhibits and depositions in the verifying affidavit hereto attached, the purported military Operation Python Dance and the deployment of soldiers to the South East has any place in our laws.”

The plaintiff filed the case on behalf of himself and the people of the South East and is also praying the court to declare that the 1st defendant acted ultra vires his powers and functions as statutorily conferred on him under the Armed Forces Act,” among other prayers.

“A declaration that the conduct of the defendants was biased and in contravention of the rules of natural justice and constitutional right to freedom from discrimination by deploying soldiers and laying siege to the south-east despite not being in a period of war nor a restive region.

“A declaration that the defendants lack the statutory powers to deploy soldiers to the South-East region and any other place in Nigeria without the consent of the national assembly.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from deploying soldiers to the streets of the south-east for Operation Python Dance 3 or any other operation under any guise and form.”

Senatorial seat aspirant for the Ekiti North Senatorial district on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former Commissioner for Information, Sports, Culture and Social Development, Sir Kayode Otitoju, has said that there is a clear difference in the cases of former Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun and Governor Ayodele Fayose on the scale of the alleged crimes committed.

He was reacting to comments from some quarters that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had refused to probe Adeosun’s forged certificate but running after Fayose who is still a serving governor.

” You can’t compare Adeosun with Fayose’s cases, that is like comparing Apple with Orange. Adeosun was never a Nigerian. She had all her growing up in the UK but her parents are from Abeokuta. Until she became a Commissioner in Ogun, I don’t think she had lived up to a month at a stretch in Nigeria.

” She was well over 30 when she eventually came for an appointment as commissioner and settled in Nigeria. And at that time, she needed an Exemption Certificate from NYSC which would enable her to pass the screening for the job and it was provided for her. She had tendered the Exemption certificate for the Commissioner job and was screened, also for this Finance minister job, she tendered the same certificate and was screened. I don’t think the certificate was forged but the process in getting it may be questionable.

For Fayose, he is a number one critic of Buhari. He also has other EFCC cases hanging on his neck. And for the records, I was a surety for Fayose ‘s bail when he was in Ikoyi prison and for two good years, my property was on hold. The poultry project case was never concluded, it was only suspended and was played down by the government of former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

Fayose is used to this kind of treatment from the EFCC. For instance, he chose to stay in Ikoyi prison instead of the EFCC prison during his first outing with the anti-graft, ” Otitoju said.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has postponed the English Language examination scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 22, till September 29, 2018 for private candidates.

The examination body revealed this on its official Twitter handle, @waecnigeria.

The tweet reads, “English Language papers will be written on September 29, 2018. Please, go to our registration site (http://registration.waecdirect.org) and download the timetable.”

Although the examination body did not state clearly, the postponement of the paper may not be unconnected to the Osun State gubernatorial election scheduled to hold on September 22, during which movement within the state would be restricted.

Meanwhile, WAEC had in July released the result of the 2018 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for internal candidates.

The exam body said a total of 786,016 candidates of the 1,572,396 that wrote the examination had five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics.

Statistics of the result showed that a total of 1,213,244 candidates representing 76.84 percent obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects with or without English Language and or Mathematics.

Do you know what surprises me, they have devised means, they could use this video right now, crop this video, get my voice out of the way, superimpose theirs put into IMO or Whatsapp to deceive their victims. All am saying is if you see these fake videos, tell that video to stand up, touch his ears, touch his eyes, touch his ears, you will see that it all pre-recorded and the lips don’t sync. A lot of celebrities apart from myself, this has been going on and on and I have been warning people for over two years.

“It is really really bad. It is really hurting, I’m not going to lie. You don’t know how it feels when you wake up and you get a message from some saying “You better take care of my wife and three children now that she has decided to divorce me for you.” It’s that bad that one of these fraudsters signed a marriage agreement online. Two houses and three cars were seized from this boy in Benin and this boy is less than twenty-five. It is a very sad situation and thank you PULSE for this platform if you get any message asking for money, it’s not me, my account is verified, thank you,” he concluded.
