I think every religion condemns adherents of other religions in both overt and subtle ways. Otherwise, why would you try to convert these "unbelievers" to your faith. The koran in particular is replete with such condemnation of non-muslims. waterworks:I don't think so. More wars/violences have been inspired by religious differences than by any other issue. All the killings in Northern Nigeria and the reprisal attacks in the South stemmed from this Islam/Christianity dichotomy in the country. So where is the peace? Do you remember that it was your Christian God that even caused all the divisions and confusion in the first place? According to Genesis 11, the people were of one accord; living and working together peacefully. Then your God became afraid of this unity among them and decided to confound, confuse, divide and scatter them all over the face of the earth. So much for this god of peace. |
@ waterworks, waterworks:If it were so, then Christian missionaries are definitely guilty 'cos they passed judgement on the traditional religious practices they met our fathers practising when they landed on this shore. Who were they to condemn and eradicate our African traditional practices. See? Therein lies the fallacy of that statement. Probing and delving into other doctrines is just like a quest for God. You keep searching for the ultimate truth about the creator and on this quest, you are bound to come across teachings that do not just make sense to you. What do you do? You discard and reject these teachings and the quest continues. |
Whether Wacko Jacko died a muslim, a christian, or an atheist, how does it affect the price of fish in the market? Mschewwww. |
@ water works, I'm not an atheist. I do believe in God, but I'm not affiliated to any religion. My belief in God is not based on any religious teachings and writings. It rather stems from introspection and observance of everything around me. By the way, an atheist is not averse to reading the bible or any other religious book at that. It's by reading them that his eyes are opened to the fallacies, inconsistencies and bigotries that are contained therein. An atheist seeks knowledge everywhere, unlike some Christians who would not touch any literature that is regarded as anti-christian, How the hell do you intend to grow and learn if your spiritual world-view is limited to only what your religion teaches? More than half of the Christians here have never opened the koran, likewise the muslims with the bible. Go figure. |
@ THE AMAKA Imagine that!!!! Shouting "Holy Ghost fire" to exorcise some imaginary hex put on the child by an imagined witch!!! And you are in the US. Did you come across the news of an American family that watched their kid die just because they prayed and believed God was going to heal the child? You call yourself a christian. Where in the bible was "Holy Ghost fire" ever used to exorcise demons and evil spirits? You should cover your head in shame, really. |
@ THE AMAKA, You can take all that xtian sermonising and stick it up your sanctimonious arse. If you want to convert people to your beliefs, go out on the street and hustle for them. There are lotsa "lost souls" out there for you. |
All you nay-sayers need to lighten up, abeg. Where's your sense of humour? And by the way, who the hell told you that Nairaland is an exclusive christian website? Not all of us share your beliefs, you know. |

Mugger: Hey, you got the time? Slevin: Yeah man, it's about 3:20. Mugger: Yo, you got a smoke? Slevin: No sorry, I don't smoke. Mugger: Well then why don't you just give me your wallet, and I'll buy my own smokes. Slevin: Am I being mugged? [He is punched in the nose] - Lucky Number Slevin |
I believe in two things - discipline and the Bible. Here you'll receive both. Put your trust in the Lord. The rest belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank. - The Warden in "The Shawshank Redemption" Ken: Coming up? Ray: What's up there? Ken: The view. Ray: The view of what? The view of down here? I can see that down here. Ken: Ray, you are about the worst tourist in the whole world. Ray: Ken, I grew up in Dublin. I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't. - In Bruges Alice Paul: I'm not a man. Inez Mulholland: Ever wish you were? Alice Paul: Once, when I saw my brother peeing his name in the snow. - Iron Jawed Angels This Ryan better be worth it. He better go home and cure some disease, or invent a longer-lasting light bulb, or something. Because to tell you the truth, I wouldn't trade ten Ryans for one Vecchio or one Caparzo. Capt Miller in Saving Private Ryan. Pvt. Reiben: You want to explain the math of this to me? I mean, where's the sense in risking the lives of the eight of us to save one guy? Capt. Miller: Anyone wanna answer that? Medic Wade: Hey, Reiben, think about the poor bastard’s mother. Pvt. Reiben: Hey, Wade, I got a mother, you got a mother, the sarge has got a mother. Shit, I'll bet that even the Captain's got a mother. [Looks at Miller] Well, maybe not the Captain, but the rest of us have got mothers. - Saving Private Ryan [after having sex with a gal] What did you say your name was? - Double J in Saturday Night Fever Connie: So, are you as good in bed as you are on that dance floor? Tony Manero: You know, Connie, if you're as good in bed as you are on the dance floor, then you're one lousy Bleep. Connie: Then how come they always send me flowers the next morning? Tony Manero: I dunno. Maybe they thought you was dead. - Saturday Night Fever |
For a moment there, I thought Bob Manuel was going to let Chuks go scot free after his rather disgraceful performance at today's task. I think his eviction was deserved. If Bob Manuel had let him off the hook, the tribalism conspiracy theorists would have made a song out of it and dance to it in the streets. The show still remains what it is anyways; a crappy show. I still can't figure out why I bother to watch. |

Just got my hands on Dan Brown's Digital Fortress. I hope it makes another gut-churning read like his Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code. |

@ generalzango How old are you, really? Read down to verse 9 where "God" also prohibited mixed cropping; and verse 11 where you are forbidden to wear clothing made of wool & linen. Verse 12 commands that you put tassels on the 4 corners of your robe. So, go figure. Besides, since when did the bible become a code of conduct manual for civil society? |
On the news, the Nigerian Govt has released Henry Okah, leader of the militant group, MEND, days after the group claimed responsibility for an attack in the city of Lagos. |
I would pick Calabar. And personally, I don't thing Onitsha deserves the tag of "Most Unromantic City In Nigeria". |
@ Suzanne84 and MissAsaju Pls if you guys are in Nigeria, where did you get Chimamanda's The Thing Around Your Neck? Last month, I checked at CMS Bookshops & Havilah here in Lagos but they didn't have the book. |
Thanks for the prompt response, my friend. Pls, if it's not too much trouble, kindly explain the highlighted "problems" like you would to a 10 yr old. My mum has already bought the car but I would like to know what to expect in terms of performance. Counting on your prompt response, as always. |
Hi Jenju, Kindly help out with this - 2HGEJ6613YH604687. Do keep up the good work. |
Thanks for this free service, my friend. Please help our with this - 2HGEJ6613YH604687 You may post it here, or alternatively send it to blueiyke@yahoo.com Thanks a bunch. |
Source please. Most of the rides posted here look like they were culled from glossy magazines and auto-websites. Especially the purported Jay Z's cars. Look more like materials for some cheap, soft sell almanacs; the type u see on the walls of your local barbing saloons. |
Is it that Seun is getting senile before his time or that he was high on something when he put this topic on the homepage? |
aristocrat:@ aristicrat, I think u fired the first salvo in this public display of shame. If u are truly a banker, then the proffession is the poorer for it. @Redfox, cool it now. It takes two to tango, u know. |
muhsin:Certainly one of the best Sidney Sheldon's books. |
I have to go with Tom Clancy. Whoever put it in his head to make a career as a writer certainly did humanity a disservice. |
The 48 Laws Of Power - Robert Greene |
I hope the just concluded FIFA Confederation cup has put this argument to rest now. If nothing else, it has proved that while Maicon is a world class footballer, he is nowhere near the immensely gifted Alves. And this has got nothing to do with the club I support, (Barcelona). |
