China Hikes Retaliatory Tariffs China this morning confirmed it is raising U.S. import tariffs from 84% to 125%, taking effect tomorrow, saying further countermeasures will be applied if the U.S. continues its “unilateral bullying.” This comes after the Trump administration yesterday clarified China faces a 145% tariff rate, not 125%, causing U.S. markets to fall... |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Anti-Trump Protesters Gather In Washington, Other US Cities by Willie2015: 11:53am On Apr 06, 2025 |
JASONjnr: As a foreign observer, I believe President Trump's economic policies, particularly his tariffs, are a strategic move to boost the US economy. The Trump tariffs aim to level the playing field for American businesses and workers by imposing taxes on imported goods. This approach has both supporters and critics, but it is designed to protect US industries, generate revenue, and stimulate domestic production and investment. While the tariffs may lead to higher prices for consumers and reduced economic growth in the short term, they can also be seen as a negotiating tool to secure more favorable trade agreements with other countries. The tariffs imposed on China, Canada, and Mexico, as well as those on steel and aluminum, are specific examples of this policy in action. Overall, Trump's tariffs are a complex and multifaceted policy aimed at promoting American economic interests. Promoting American interest is a good one ... But doing too much in the short term is a recipe for confusion and disaster... He only got four years.. to change the world economic order...if he can... He should expect more protests in the coming days from local consumers.... And also brace for more unfriendly policies from his partners... I assure you , negotiation is never a simple walk in the park.... |

nairalanda1: And then again, they have the following
Saudi 40 million people, ten million barrels of crude a day
Nigeria, 220 million, 1.7 million barrels of crude a day
We are not as rich as the Saudis
Grow up, still. Its not about how rich... Its about effectiveness... efficiency and a working system.... and the right mindset... Take Nigerian leaders to Saudi as managers , They will turn that place to shit hole within 10 years .. and start finding greener pasture in another country... I can see you have an unteachable mind. They can afford it because they produce six to ten times as much crude as we do, and for a population of 40 million people

Person wey dey earn 100000 naira and has 5 kids and no side hustle won't have the lifestyle of someone who earns 1 million monthly, has two kids and a side hustle bringing in 200000 monthly.
Oga you have no argument. This is not pdp vs apc..this has been our reality as a nati
That's why. Saudi can afford it ... Cos they are effective and efficient with their resources... and also have a working system... U should not have 5 kids when u now ur income is poor.... U can also become a pauper when u fail to do the right things even... with an income of N1m with 2 kids...and side hustles... Nigeria can decide to be better and ramp up production 3m barrels per day Or still decide to sleep and let population continue to explode without deliberate policies. Its a function of how effective and efficient you are with your resources... |

Subsides won't work. Do you think the Saudis will be able to afford subsidies... If they are stealing. left and right the way their counterparts in Nigeria are stealing ? The problem of Naija is not subsidy. Its endemic corruption at all level... You really want free fuel.
Venezuela has been selling fuel for N10 for over 30 years. Today they are a net improter of refined fuel, and are broke and in debt. I have always tutored you .... that there is nothing wrong with subsidy... Its the one we practiced in Nigeria that is laddered with cabal and corruption system. US, Brazil, India..,...UK.. France.. Do you realise that trouble Niger Delta can bring down oil production which affects government revenue. With low revenue how do you get enough dollars to stabilize naira .How do you get enough oil to feed the refinery. If this boys decide to go back to this creeks can our military sustain another round of unnecessary bursting of pipe lines. We are looking at the economy that is trying to stabilize because of some drastic policies and your are talking of seplet and Co price dropping for an opportunity. You want to make money and not be able to sleep because many are hungry/poor and could see you as target. mikeapollo: How could blowing up of pipelines be normal event? So can we say it should continue since it is a ""normal event"? It will surely affect both upstream and downstream companies because some of the upstream companies operate onshore and in shallow waters where their pipelines are vulnerable to these kind of attacks. This is key reason why Mobil, Shell and ENI divested and sold their onshore assets to Seplat, Rennaisance and Oando respectively. Read Seplat Financial Statements during these period.... U will understand why I said it was a normal event... The end result is that they became better and stronger... Even built another pipeline route - Amukpe-Escravos pipeline |

mikeapollo: When we talk some people would say this forum is not for politics and that we should go to politics forum. But now, politics is what will make or mar a lot of investments in the oil and gas industry and stocks on NGX. Most oil and gas stocks will likely decline in price as from tomorrow. It will also discourage invemenrs in the sector . This is what happens when a clueless president allows a power drunk appointee minister to talk and behave recklessly without caution and restraint. The man said ""nothing will happen if.....""
Enjoy ! Clueless govt.! Its always good... to stick to the purpose of the forum... Politics may derail the thread ... Blowing up pipelines ... Na normal event if you are an active investor .... back in the days with SEPLAT..on the NSE... No need for any panic In fact, SEPLAT came out strong with another route.... Amukpe-Escravos pipeline SEPLAT is about N5000 plus now ... Those companies in the upstream sector will do just fine.... They are indigenes and can play their cards well.. Politics › Re: Lagos-Calabar Highway Project Is Not Wasteful, Shehu Sani Replies Obasanjo by Willie2015: 8:10am On Mar 14, 2025 |
chopnaira: The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, a 750-kilometer road, is being funded through a combination of government investment and private funding, with the contractor, Hitech Construction Company, securing 70% of the funds via an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing (EPC+F) agreement, while the government provides 30%.
Meanwhile obasanjo spent $16 Billion dollars (around 28.8 trillion naira) on fictitious power projects. Lets not forget how he made everything senate rotten by bribing them so that he could get a 3rd term. A quarter of that sum would have completed the linking of the entire country by rail, as envisioned by Buhari. That would have had far more impact in terms of travel, tourism, logistics, business opportunities and social development. Did you read this at all ? This is much more better than a 750km road... |
