Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC are said to have turned down request by counsels to two former service chiefs that they are willing to refund part of the alleged looted funds to the coffers of the Federal Government in exchange for their freedom. A highly placed source at the EFCC, during the weekend told Nigerian Pilot that two different lawyers (names withheld) had last week written to the acting chairman of the commission, ACP Ibrahim Magu pledging to refund 60 percent of the alleged looted funds but the chairman reportedly turned down the request. According to the source, ACP Magu insisted that they must appear before the operatives of the commission and clear their names over alleged involvement in the arms deals scandal. The source further added that the visibly angry Magu insisted that due process and rule of law must be followed in the investigations of the service chiefs and that plea bargain is not known to the Nigerian law and constitution. see more http://nigerianpilot.com/arms-deal-efcc-rejects-ex-service-chiefs-plea-bargain-bid/ |

:Inauguration in dilemma :No going back- Faleke Ahead of the January 27 inauguration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the substantive Governor of Kogi State, indications emerged at the weekend that the presidency and leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are in fresh crisis. Both sides are currently in dilemma over the pockets of challenges facing the inauguration and Hon. James Faleke’s insistence to shun the event. However, Hon. Faleke has insisted that there was no going back on his earlier stand that he was late Audu’s running mate, therefore, he should become governor-elect following his principal’s death. Faleke insists that he will not pair with Alhaji Bello and has since approached the court to declare him as the governorship candidate of APC. Apparently overwhelmed by inability of the present administration to stem the free fall of the Nigerian economy, the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has declared that the country’s present economic downturn could be an act of God. Odigie-Oyegun made the assertion while hosting a 15-member delegation of an APC support group, Change Agents Foundation, CAF, led by its Director-General, Felix Felix at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. He added that the country’s economic crisis is to remind Nigeria of the need to implement and embrace radical change, particularly in the country’s current economic model. “I think God has a hand in the current economic predicament of the country. Imagine the sudden fall in the price of crude oil, the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, from its heights in 2014, averaging $112 per barrel down to the current price of $28 per barrel – lower than the $38 per barrel which the proposed 2016 budget is predicated on,” Oyegun said. - See more at: http://nigerianpilot.com/apc-chairman-blames-god-for-nigerias-economic-downturn/#sthash.25D1g6b8.dpuf |
26-year-old Justin Smith was walking home from his local bar in Tresckow, Pennsylvania last February when he blacked out and ended up lying unconscious in the snow. His father, Don Smith, found him the next morning and called the emergency services. When paramedics arrived they believed Justin was dead. He was taken to hospital where doctors thought he could still be revived. Using a procedure usually used to save patients whose lungs and heart are damaged by the flu or a heart attack, doctors were able to revive Justin. Justin lost all his toes and his little fingers on both hands from frostbite but he has no lasting neurological damage. - See more at: http://nigerianpilot.com/man-frozen-to-death-comes-back-to-life/#sthash.dSaOTBav.dpuf |
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has declared that he does not have any house in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), challenging anyone with information of any property linked to him in Dubai to publish the details. The governor, who also said he was ready to waive his immunity to be prosecuted if any house is linked to him in Dubai, added that he was not a kind of person that will deny his assets. Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it was painful that the people who seized power in Nigeria through falsehood and propaganda were still lying eight months after assuming office. He said; "I'm not among those lily livered Nigerians that will deny their assets anywhere. "They are in the federal government and they should have access to all information both in Nigeria and abroad. I therefore challenge them to check books on owners of all properties in Dubai. "If they trace any house to me in Dubai, the federal government should make public all the details including pictures, location and title documents. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said corrections had been made to the details of the budget as presented on Dec. 22, 2015 before the National Assembly. This is contained in a letter to the House of Representatives as read by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara in Abuja. The President’s letter reads in part: “It will be recalled that on Tuesday, 22 December, 2015, I presented my 2016 budget proposals to the joint sitting of the National Assembly. “I submitted a draft bill accompanied by a schedule of details. “At the time of submission, we indicated that because the details had just been produced, we would have to check to ensure that there were no errors in the detailed breakdown contained in the schedule. That has since been completed and I understand that the corrections have been submitted. “The National Assembly would therefore have the details as submitted on the 22nd and a copy containing the corrections submitted last week. It appears that this has led to some confusion. “In this regard, please find attached the corrected version. “This is the version the National Assembly should work with as my 2016 budget estimates. The draft bill remains the same and there are no changes in any of the figures.” Shortly before the letter was read, Rep. Leo Ogor (Delta-PDP), the Minority Leader of the House, raised a constitutional point of order citing Sections 81 and 84 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Ogor said that the provisions of the law did not give the president powers to amend budget, adding that such powers lie with the legislature. He consequently called on the House to disregard Buhari’s letter. However, Dogara rose in defence of the president submitting that there was nowhere in the letter that Buhari said the budget was amended, He said that it is only the president that has powers to make corrections to the budget if he observes any error. Dogara’s explanation, however, drew the ire of PDP lawmakers, who started chanting “no, no!” preventing the Speaker from making his point for some minutes. - See more at: http://nigerianpilot.com/buhari-writes-reps-explains-changes-in-budget-2016/#sthash.m1MTD84u.dpuf Cc: Lalasticalala |
Working on a computer that takes forever to buffer can be very frustrating. It gets even more disturbing when there are so many things to do on your schedule. In addition, a slow page that takes forever to boot is not helpful to your business as most customers do not have the patience to wait for a snail speed site to load. In light of this, Jovago.com, Africa's No 1 hotel booking portal shares 5 ways you can boost the speed of your Web page. 1. Compress large files Many websites devise creative ways to improve the ranking of their website through Search Engine Optimization practices which involves the use of videos, and shareable media-twitter, Facebook, and Instagram in order to have mileage but this additional content can reduce speed. The more the presence of these large files, the slower your system. So try to compress your larger pages to take up less space while attempting to boost your ranking on Google. 2. Use Browser cache Cache stores data so that future data requests can be served faster. Turning on the browser cache will save the relevant data on a hard drive which results in faster load time when the visitor comes back. Many geeks fail to use this tool and this leads to slow booting periods. However, be careful when using caches as hackers can use to have unauthorised access to your email and other sensitive sites you visit. 3. Remove unnecessary plugins If you are using WordPress, running more than one plug contributes substantially to a slow page speed. Therefore, only use plugins if you absolutely need one. Five million jobs in the world’s leading economies could disappear over the next five years because of advances in technology. Developments in artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology, would disrupt the business world in a similar way to previous industrial revolutions, the World Economic Forum said in a report published Monday. Administrative and white collar office jobs are most at risk from a “fourth industrial revolution,” the forum said on the eve of its annual meeting in Davos this week. The impact of the tech revolution is the central topic of this year’s gathering of the world’s leaders and major business figures in the Swiss mountain resort. The forum surveyed senior executives from over 350 of the biggest companies in 15 of the world’s major emerging and developed economies. Together, those economies account for 65% of the global workforce. - See more at: http://nigerianpilot.com/technology-could-kill-5-million-jobs-by-2020/#sthash.0O0pP75s.dpuf

As controversy continues to trail the emergence of a new version of the 2016 budget, facts have emerged over how the original budget was withdrawn and taken to a highbrow hotel in Abuja, where the document was doctored by highly placed government officials and civil servants. On Thursday, during plenary, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, openly accused the Senior Special Assistant to the President (Senate), Senator Ita Enang of doctoring and circulating fake copies of the budget proposals. Consequently, the Senate vowed not to work on the fake document until it receives an electronic copy of the original budget. It was gathered that the alterations of the budget document were done in the House of Representatives, but the House officials were quick to intercept the doctored version and insist on the circulation of the original proposals as submitted by the President. Issues surrounding the 2016 budget came to limelight on Tuesday when it emerged that the proposal as submitted by the President could not be traced. The discovery prompted the Senate into a closed-door session following which the Senate Committee on Ethics was mandated to investigate the issue. The issue also led the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari same Tuesday afternoon. Based on the allegations, Nigerian Pilot Saturday went to town to unearth what happened. - See more at: http://nigerianpilot.com/exposed-2016-budget-doctored-in-abuja-hotel/#sthash.2XacKByt.dpuf

(CNN)The marvels of modern architecture abound around the world. There’s a building that looks like a banknote in Lithuania, a building called the “friendly alien” in Austria, and now, a church shaped like a high-heeled shoe in Taiwan. The church, a tinted blue glass structure, is 55 feet tall at the top of the heel, and 36 feet wide. Based on that and guessing it’s roughly 75-80 feet from toe to heel, we’ll call it a size 880. It’s taken two months to build at a cost of $686,000, according to the BBC. The structure has been created by local government officials in Taiwan and will be used primarily for weddings and and photo shoots, but not regular services, the BBC reports. - See more at: http://nigerianpilot.com/photos-a-church-shaped-like-a-high-heeled-shoe-in-taiwan/#sthash.DUuLGycY.dpuf

An Islamic court has sentenced a Nigerian cleric to death by hanging for insulting the Prophet Muhammad in the northern city of Kano. Abdul Nyass was convicted after a trial held in secret to avoid protests. Five of his followers were also sentenced to death last year. These are the first death sentences for blasphemy handed down by a Nigerian Sharia court - the sentence has been delivered for other offences such as adultery but none has been carried out. Mr Nyass is a preacher at a local faction of the Tijaniya sect, founded in Senegal by Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse, who has a large following across West Africa. He was reported to have said that "Niasse was bigger than Prophet Muhammad", leading to violent protests in the city. Nigeria map Kano has a predominately Muslim population and Islamic courts operate alongside secular courts. Says no money to pay workers’ salaries All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara, yesterday, said the state is broke and appealed to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT to suspend its plan to embark on industrial action over non-payment of salaries. In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, the party said the contending issue is not really about non-payment of teachers’ salaries but non-availability of funds to pay salaries which required collective efforts to address rather than industrial action. According to him, “As a party, we wish to state that we feel the concerns and share in the pains of primary school teachers in Kwara State. Quite unfortunately, this issue is chiefly caused by the dwindling allocation from the federation account. “Therefore, in actual sense, it is not about non-payment of teachers’ salaries but non-availability of funds to pay salaries. It requires collective efforts to address rather than strike. If the resources are available today, the Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed-led Kwara State Government will pay all teachers like it has always done in the past 5 years.” The statement further stressed that, “Given the cordial relationship between Kwara State Government and the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUTwith mention to the fact that the union, not too long ago, acknowledged the outstanding performance of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in the sector with its national merit award. We wish to say the record of the state government is clear and the will to pay teachers’ salaries by the Kwara State Government is undoubtful. - See more at: http://nigerianpilot.com/kwara-is-broke-apc/#sthash.6fyxsAps.dpuf |
