Joshua Okpo, the Rector of Maritime Academy of
Nigeria (MAN) in Oron, Akwa Ibom State is dead.
He reportedly died of heart attack.
Recall that Minister of Transportation, Rotimi
Amaechi, a few weeks ago ordered the probe of
the accounts of the Academy and the tenure of
its Rector over the N18 billion released to the
institution.
The Rector, it was gathered, incurred the
Minister’s wrath when he accused the Nigerian
Maritime Administration and Safety Agency
(NIMASA) of starving the academy of funds.
The Minister, it was learnt, summoned the Acting
Director-General of NIMASA, Haruna Jauro and
demanded explanation as to why the agency was
starving the academy of its statutory five per
cent funds.
“The NIMASA DG was really shocked by Okpo’s
allegation and he explained to the Honourable
Minister that NIMASA had regularly released
money due to the academy,” a report said.
Jauro, it was learnt, also informed the Minister
that NIMASA had released more than N18 billion
to MAN Oron between 2009 and 2014.
It was at this point that Okpo, who also attended
the meeting, confirmed to the Minister that the
academy had actually received up to N13 billion
since 2011 when he assumed duties as the
Rector of the institution, the report added.

that isn't the issue here, we both know tomorrow shall be great but considering so many things as a guy and as the first son n first born, I have little siblings, they are all in school, my dad is retired, I am still job hunting... whenever I think of the responsibilities I have to face in life, marriage disappears from ma mind n doesn't seem to reflect in the next 3 years, her behaviours this days has gotten me under pressure, I told her she is free to marry someone as she told me someone had propose to her lately, she is telling me she can't concentrate with any other guy that her love for me is still there and grows every minute, now she is saying I never loved her if I should turn down her proposal and the only way to prove this love is by accepting her proposal..

anxiety brews among the All Progressives Congress
leadership, there are emerging indications that the Senate may
be faced with tempestuous plenary session today, October 6,
between the Bukola Saraki and Ahmed Lawan factions when the
envelope containing the ministerial list submitted to it is finally
opened for screening to commence.

President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that the ministerial
list containing 21 ministerial nominees be sent to the National
Assembly last week to meet up with the September 30 deadline.
According to Daily Independent, the senators may clash as
some of them are already insisting that President Buhari must
submit himself before the Senate if he is desirous of holding the
office of the minister of petroleum.

The insistence is hinged on the declaration which the president
made during his trip to address the United Nations 70th general
assembly last week that he had appointed himself as the
petroleum minister.
For some time now, there have been controversies over the
choice of ministerial nominees. The leadership of the All
Progressives Congress had once raised an alarm that they were
not being carried along in the process of choosing the
president’s cabinet members.
Subsequently, chieftains of the ruling APC and other Nigerians
were said to have been engaged in serious behind the scene
lobbying over ‘who gets what’ in the Buhari-led government.
However, sources say that the senators had vowed to reject an
incomplete list saying that the constitution provides for a
nominee from each state of the federation and that any list that
does not cover the 36 states would suffer serious opposition on
the floor of the Senate, Daily Independence reports.
It has been over four months since President Buhari was sworn
in but still trying to make up his cabinet members as Nigerians
wait eagerly to know who his choices are.

As the process continues, the loggerheads between the Saraki
and Lawan factions over how the Senate president emerged as
the leader of the upper legislature may be an impediment in the
screening and confirmation process.
The suspense may however end today if the Senate goes ahead
with the screening process for the first batch of 21 ministers
whose names are meant to be in the list.
Members of the Senate averred that they would not deviate from
the constitutional provisions as they will apply rigorous
measures in the screening of the ministerial nominees.
In a related development, some APC chieftains whose names
are reportedly on the ministerial list are said to have started
lobbying senators so they can successfully scale the screening
process billed for Wednesday, October 7. Some others are said
to have gone spiritual embarking on intensive prayer sessions
to come out unscathed after the exercise.

Senator Saraki’s appeal had been filed challenging his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Saraki, in the appeal challenged the trial praying the court to halt proceedings of his trial before the tribunal over alleged false assets declaration. He had through his counsel, Adebayo Adelodun (SAN), brought an ex-parte application seeking to upturn the ruling of the tribunal.
