PDP is very desperate and jittery, to say the least. I'd be scared too if I were in their shoes. I'd hate to be in GEJ's shoes right now; all his 'loyalists' are beginning to waver as they see the hand-writing on the wall. They're only being pragmatic. This is politics, after all.

Politics › 8 PDP Govs In Secret Pact With APC - Saturday Sun by WisdomFlakes(op): 5:58am On Jan 31, 2015
Barely two weeks to Nigeria’s presidential election, what can best be described as high-wire politics is playing out in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with about eight of its governors now in a secret alliance with sections of the leadership of the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Saturday Sun gathered that the PDP governors went into the alliance in their individual capacity and not as a group in order to get the sympathy or soft landing from the leadership of the opposition party should power change hands after the February 14 elections.

According to an impeccable source close to one of the affected governors, “the political climate is so cloudy and hazy that the leadership of our party (PDP) is not showing any sign of confidence that we can win the coming elections, especially the presidential election. The wise thing any smart PDP governor can do in this circumstance is to play safe and have a kind of working understanding with the leadership of the opposition party (APC) so that if power eventually goes to them, one can actually feel safe and welcome in case there is the need to change political platform immediately.”

Some of the governors, it was learnt went into the secret pact after the national leadership of PDP denied them control of the party’s structures in their states and as a result, their hopes to pick their successors and equally go to the senate were dashed. Others, it was further learnt, had to go into the partnership to save face after discovering that Buhari has huge following in their states.

The PDP had, in November 2013, lost five of its governors, in a major political earthquake, to the APC. The PDP governors that defected to the APC then were Mr. Chibuike Amaechi (Rivers), Alhaji Ahmed Abdulfatah (Kwara), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Alhaji Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), and Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).

Two other governors — Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu (Niger) and Alhaji Sule Lamido (Jigawa) — declined to move with their colleagues to the opposition party after they had shown initial signs of defection.

Over a year later, eight more governors who appear disenchanted with the party may not be defecting formally but might be working to mobilize votes for the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari instead of the PDP flagbearer, President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to some details of the alliance, while some of the eight governors agreed to mobilize total support for Buhari, which will get him majority of total votes cast in their states, others are working on giving minimum backing which will enable the APC candidate to secure the required 25 per cent of total votes cast in their states.

Saturday Sun gathered that two of the governors in the alliance are in the South South region, two in the South East, two in North East and two in North Central. An indication that all is still not well within the PDP emerged last week when the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Ahmed Ibeto, and over 200 political office holders defected from the ruling PDP to the APC.

Announcing his defection to newsmen in Minna on Monday last week, Ibeto said: “I am on my way to welcome our party leader and presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, at Minna airport for his campaign rally in Niger State.”

One of the governors from a northern state, who justified the support he may be giving Buhari at the polls, told Saturday Sun: “Whatever support my people and I will give Gen. Buhari is informed by the reality on ground in this part of the country. There is no need denying the fact that Buhari is a phenomenon in the North and his kind of followership is fanatical. To secure this state from any post-election violence and the anger of our people, we have to be seen as supporting Buhari even though we are in different political parties. The situation is also not made easy for us at the state level because of these Abuja politicians who stay there and tell the president different lies which prevent him from knowing the truth about the reality on ground.”

When contacted to have his view on the secret alliance, National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed neither denied nor confirmed the development. “I am not personally involved in such talks but I can tell you we are getting enormous support from every stratum of the society and in this case, every support that will give effect to the change the nation so much needs at this critical time is a patriotic effort”, he added.

Dismissing this as a ruse, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh denied any deal between aggrieved PDP governors and APC leadership to ensure victory for Buhari.

Speaking with Saturday Sun on phone, Metuh stated that the idea was being orchestrated by what he called the APC propaganda machinery.

“We don’t engage in wishful thinking. We don’t indulge in falsehood or propaganda. Even some of our governors that lost senatorial tickets are working with us. All our governors are with us. So, how can they do a deal with APC? We challenge them to mention our governors working against us, publicly. It is APC’s wishful thinking”, he argued.

The candidate that you apparently support went public in 2012 and declared that "Boko-Haram is in my government". Given the fact that he heads the Government don't you think that he should be held responsible for the terrorist actions carried out by this group for the past 3 years. (http://www.punchng.com/news/boko-haram-has-infiltrated-my-govt-jonathan/ )
My brother, e go better for you wella. If that statement he made is to be believed it then means that he's so abysmally weak that even with all the paraphernalia of power at his disposal, he still lacks the will to bring those boko accomplices within his govt to book, OR he's simply playing politics with the life of Nigerians over this insurgency issue.

Agukagu:
Now I am convinced that GMB is even more clueless than GEJ on how to deal with BH menace. The solution to the insecurity in North East is not by engaging the Boko boys. These are pawns on the chess board. To curtail the excesses of the boys, you need to strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter. The best strategy in dealing with BH is cutting off the financiers from sources of fund. Take the fight to the root and the branches will wither away. Eg. Boko boys can not kidnap 250 girls and keep them in custody for long if they do not have ample fund to camp such a population. The operation and maintenance cost of their military hardware is an evidence that they were well funded.
Nigerians are willing to try the General's approach for a CHANGE, seeing that Gudluck's approach has been a disaster after 6 years in the saddle. If Gudluck is re-eleced, at this rate Boko Haram will eventually consume the entire North East and will only get bolder.

Gudluck Jonathan has been weighed on a scale for the past years and has been found wanting. He has tried his best but even that isn't good enough. He can't give what he doesn't have.

Jonathan lacks will because you, Buhari and your Northern elders said he was fighting the entire North while he wanted to quash BH.
He lacks will because you, Buhari and your Northern elders wanted amnesty for terrorists.
He lacks will because you, Buhari and your Northern elders wouldn't want him to impose a State of Emergency.
He lacks will because you Buhari and your Northern elders were sabotaging his efforts and those of the Nigerian military.
He lacks will because you, Buhari and your Northern brothers will not give him the support needed.
.
And now Buhari, you want to make that your campaign point against your opponent.
Shame on you.
You GEJ supporters are just like your principal, always shooting yourselves in the foot while attempting to make a moot point. How can you blame your lack of WILL on another human being's action or inactionhuh The ONLY known cause of a lack of will is WEAKNESS.

The worst thing to happen to a man is to take away his freedom especially away from his billions.
Jail is a deterrent to budding looters. Long prison sentences and confiscation of assets are the best tools for fighting corruption. There are no ways to create a system that can beat the creative imagination of the human mind.
KPOM! He fails to understand that his pro-corruption rhetoric is further alienating him from the masses he's trying to appeal to -- being that the poor masses are at the receiving end of the ugly effects of corruption. The only people who are applauding him are the rich/crooked beneficiaries of his corrupt administration.

By your statement you have actually condemned GEJ as a weakling who indeed lacks the WILL to end the insurgency. If GEJ is so sure Buhari is a boko sponsor, why can't he do the needful by having him arrested and prosecuted, and spare the country from any further carnage?? I repeat, his level of weakness is sickening.
Politics › Re: Jonathan Lacks Will To Crush Boko Haram, Buhari Tells Kerry by WisdomFlakes: 9:15am On Jan 27, 2015
GEJ only makes excuses for his failures -- he'll never accept responsibility for them, it's always somebody else 's fault that boko thugs are claiming Nigerian territory, Buhari's the sponsor of boko haram (yet he can't have him arrested -- oops! Sorry, he just said he won't have anyone arrested for practically anything, not even corruption. In other words, no deterrent whatsoever against stealing in govt., considering that nations like China even have corrupt officials killed as a strong deterrent coz they know how dangerous that cancer can get if left unchecked, even the u.s prosecutes and jails corrupt officials, but GEJ is more righteous than God himself).

Someone needs to advise Jonathan to vet his own speeches from hereon coz at this rate he's doing a better job than the APC is doing selling Buhari's candidacy. His weakness is nauseating.

We need prayers in Nigeria.
We have always been praying. In fact our president, Jona, is a prayer warrior sef going by the way he goes to Israel and churches within Nigeria all the time. But God cannot be mocked coz prayer of itself without sincerity of purpose, righteousness, and the will to change the course which has put us in this mess in the first place, will be a futile exercise.

Jonathan seems to be a nice man, but we don't need a nice man at this juncture, not one who has been given an opportunity to prove his mettle as a leader, and has been found wanting.

Why should the nation then reward his failed leadership with a re-election?

As we speak, the nation is under siege by a band of thugs called boko haram, it has been now for over 4 years, and there has been no appreciable progress under GEJ's leadership, and we're supposed to re-elect him coz it's their 'turn'? That's tantamount to cheap blackmail!

Speculative journalism, when will Nigeria press try to be professional? Buhari won Gombe and Bauchi in 2011 but Yuguda and Torba won by landslides. There's no panic in that regard. What GEJ needs from both is 25% only. For Adamawa, besides the seating governor, incoming governor, Jonathan Zwingina, Marwa, have great followers and they will ensure that Goodluck triumphs over change(bad luck). I am from Ebonyi State and I can guarantee that we do not have divided loyalty. irrespective of our party affiliations, we will unite to vote for GEJ. Stop this media propaganda, APC would think they are gaining ground when highly educated masses will vote against illiteracy and encourage others not to take Nigeria backward.

Sorry to burst your bubble @OP, but that polling system is a sham and therefore undependable/unreliable. It can be easily rigged by deleting your browser's cookies, refreshing the browser and taking it over. Or one just simply needs a lot of time to spare, a couple of browsers opened simultaneously, and the poll can be easily rigged. So, either that is fixed or the initiators of the sham of a poll pull it down. Next thing you'll hear is that Agbaje has won the poll, via rigging ofcourse.

But it takes more than great oratory to win elections. In fairness to him, he has charisma but lacks the political structures necessary to win in a state like Lagos. Ambode on the other hand is more visible to the grassroots. The elites that own t.v's and read newspaper may be aware of whom Jimi is, but the grassroots -- the mechanics, tailors, bricklayers, e.t.c. Those folks know little to nothing about him and what he stands for, beyond his posters. Right man in the wrong party.
