Now, tell me has any group of Nigeria ever been senselessly massacred in the SE? Has any notable figure (like that of Oba of lagos) in SE ever openly threaten any fellow Nigerians in their domain during election? Has any Nigeria ever been deported from SE? Who is hating on the other?

PORT HARCOURT—FIVE civil society groups,
yesterday, in Rivers State accused Nigeria Customs
Service, NCS, Apapa, Lagos, of impounding a
sculpture made in living memorial of Ken Saro-
Wiwa.

According to Ogoni Solidarity Forum, Friends of
the Earth, Social Action, Environmental Rights
Action and Home of Mother Earth Foundation, the
sculpture was seized on September 8, and all
efforts to get it released had been fruitless till date.
The group said the sculpture was on display in
several places in the United Kingdom before it was
shipped into the country.

A statement by Ogoni Solidarity Forum, Friends of
the Earth, Social Action, Environmental Rights
Action and Home of Mother Earth Foundation said
the sculpture was to draw attention to the
environmental challenges faced by Ogoni arising
from pollution of their area.

According to the groups: “This statement is issued
to draw public attention to the seizure by the
Nigeria Customs Service of a “living memorial” to
Ken Saro-Wiwa donated by Platform – friends and
colleagues in the United Kingdom – to the Ogoni
people.

The memorial is a sculpture made in
remembrance of the struggles of Ken Saro-Wiwa
and 8 other Ogoni environmental rights activists
who were sentenced and killed by a military
tribunal in November 1995. It calls attention to the
environmental degradation and economic
deprivation, in which the Ogoni people live, despite
being naturally blessed with enormous deposits of
crude oil. The people of Ogoniland continue to
fight for remediation of their lands and
compensation after the devastation caused by oil
multinationals such as Shell.

“After being on display at various places in the
United Kingdom for 9 years, at the request of
Nigerian partners, the sculpture was shipped from
London to Nigeria via Lagos Port. On arrival in
Lagos, it was impounded by Customs officials on
September 8, 2015, who claimed that it had
‘political value’, due to Saro-Wiwa’s words which
are inscribed on the side: ‘I accuse the oil
companies of practising genocide against the
Ogoni’. The sculpture also displays the name of
Ken Saro-Wiwa on a white steel banner, and the
names of the other 8 Ogoni men on sculptural
barrels, currently stowed inside for transportation
purposes. Every attempt to get it released to the
Ogoni people has proved abortive. No further
reason has been given for the continued seizure of
the gift to the Ogoni people.

Similarly, a box of flyers and reports
commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the
murder of Ken Saro-Wiwa, sent by friends Platform
in the United Kingdom through DHL, was also
seized for no justifiable reason by the State
Security Service. To date the box has not been
returned. We have submitted letters of appeal to
the Customs boss, Col Hameed Ali (retd), upon
receipt of the letter by his Personal Assistant, we
were assured that the sculpture would be released.
That has not yet happened.”

One Miss Onyinyechi Okegbulam of
Egbu in Owerri North Local Government Area of
Imo State has allegedly been killed by her
boyfriend for refusing his marriage proposal.

A
source, who spoke on grounds of anonymity, told
Vanguard that the girl was shot in the head at close
range by her supposed boyfriend in the village.
The source recalled that the deceased was, last
Saturday, lured out of her family home by the
boyfriend at about 7p.m.

“Some people, who were close to the scene of the
crime that night, reported that as soon as the boy
saw the girl approaching him, he fired at her,” the
source said.

Another source claimed that soon after shooting
the girl, the young man tried to smuggle
Onyinyechi’s lifeless body into his car but
scampered for safety when a woman raised alarm,
which attracted several people to the scene.

‘He paid for the girl’s education’

Another story, however, had it that the boyfriend
was responsible for the entire educational
expenses of the girl, who later ditched him.

A resident of the area said: “We heard that the boy
picked the bills for the girl’s education, but that the
girl later abandoned the boy and opted to marry
another man.

“We have even heard that the marriage has been
fixed before the boyfriend struck.”

The 22-year-old Onyinyechi was, until her untimely
death, a final year student of Federal Polytechnic,
Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area of
the state.

Although the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr.
Andrew Enwerem, a deputy superintendent of
police, could not be reached at press time, a
reliable source in the state police headquarters,
Owerri, confirmed that police had waded into the
matter.

The police source said: “Police have started
investigating the incident and the late girl’s parents
are cooperating with us. Police will get to the root
of the case.”

All this while, there has never been a violence protest carried out by biafrans, it has always been a peaceful protest, but yet many a times Nigerian police have often open fire on the peaceful protesters , many have been injured , some others shot dead. Who is instigating the violence here?

In the course of agitation for freedom, war often crop up when the alleged oppressor forcefully tries to suppress or intimidate the peaceful agitators. Igbos are peaceful pple that love and cherish life so much, but mind you only a tree will stand and be cut down without defending itself.
