Politics / A Rapist/armed Robber Caught In Calabar, Cross River (see Photos) by Wisdytech(m): 9:55pm On Feb 10, 2015

By Eyo Nse,

CALABAR- Early on Tuesday morning, a suspect was in the custody of a monach in Inyang Edem Street, Calabar. A massive crowd gathered around the chief's compound around 9:30am this morning to identify a suspect that had been disturbing the community of Inyang Edem street, Twin street and its environ.

HOW HE WAS ARRESTED: On Sunday evening he raped a student and her room mate, which send shock to the entire compound where the students resides, he nearly killed one of them after staping her severally with a knife.
He is accused of raping upto 20 girls in 2014, and upto 5 in the year 2015.
The monach in person of Chief Okon Etim Effiong is a Muri and a village head of Ndun Ndang Village, governing Inyang Edem and its environs. The suspect was said to have been caught in his resident in Inyang Edem Street, Calabar on Tuesday morning, around 6am after information has gotten to the community about where he dwells. When he was brought to the monach after his arrest, his victims (the two girls he had raped earlier in the week) were asked to identify if truly he was the suspect, the girls identify a cut they gave to him when they were struggling with him the night they were attacked.

A chat with the MONACH proved abortive. Some people among the crowd spoke to Brainnews Ng, a woman by name Eka Aboy, told us that this suspect had been terrorising the neighbourhood every night for about 2years now, she said what had been saving him from being caught was the trick he normally uses, the 2nd man, simply identified as Mr Nse Eyo who said he should not be release to the police, but be beaten by the angry mob on the street, if police goes away with him the same crime or even worser will be repeated by him and his gang, but he feared the angry mob killing him in the spot, cos it may warrant the police action on the neighbourhood.

After sometime, the monach called a four man police to transfer the robber to a nearly police station but was overwhelmed by the angry mob, but within 15 minutes a stronger squard by the police was called to take the robber away, which consist of about 20 heavily armed police men at 11:20am the same morning.

Politics / NIGERIA ELECTIONS 2015: Presidency Shops For Jega’s Replacement by Wisdytech(m): 3:40pm On Feb 09, 2015
ABUJA — With the successful postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Presidency has launched a two-pronged war to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan wins the election convincingly.

The two strategies are to stop Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress candidate from contesting the election with Jonathan and the replacement of the INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, with a less independent-minded person. Jega, it was gathered, had been described by hawks around the president of being too independent-minded and ‘uncooperative’ despite being given the job on a platter of gold by the president’s men.

Vanguard learnt that Jega might have unwittingly played into the hands of the forces arrayed against him by agreeing to shift the elections.

Legal war to disqualify Buhari

Competent sources said last night that the move to remove Jega and the legal fireworks against Buhari, would be taken up simultaneously with effect from this week given the timeframe made possible by the shift.

The retired general is to be prosecuted by a team of legal luminaries for ‘lying on oath’ that he had a school certificate with the Nigerian Army when he knew that it was untrue. The plaintiffs are said to have settled for trying Buhari for alleged ‘perjury’ instead of outright non-possession of certificate following legal advice that the latter would be more difficult to prove within the time at their disposal.

Vanguard learnt that although Jega reluctantly succumbed to pressure from the Presidency and its security chiefs to shift the polls, he might still not be allowed by the forces to conduct the rescheduled elections between March 28 and April 11. Vanguard gathered from competent sources that the Presidency was no longer comfortable with Jega and was, therefore, working tirelessly to get him out of the commission to pave the way for a more ‘trusted hand’ to conduct the rescheduled elections.

It was learnt that the forces arrayed against the INEC boss had convinced the President not to renew Jega’s tenure, which is expected to lapse on June 13 this year. The forces, it was learnt, felt that Jega was rather too ‘difficult’ to deal with, having not allowed himself to be dictated to by anyone since assuming office like other appointees of the government.

It was learnt that in a bid to sweep off Jega from his seat without raising any dust, he would be asked to comply with the civil service procedure by proceeding on his three months terminal leave with effect from March 1, this year since he is expected to retire on June 13.

S-West gov’s brother may replace Jega

Vanguard gathered that in his place, the Presidency was considering bringing in another academic from the South-West, who is currently heading a tertiary institution in the country. The professor of Political Science and International Relations is said to be a sibling of a serving governor in the South-West, who is a close ally of President Goodluck Jonathan and his party.

Competent sources also told Vanguard last night that although the name of the academic had been made known in security circles, it was not clear whether the man had been cleared by the forces with a view to sending his name to the National Assembly for possible confirmation, as required by law.

Working against Jonathan’s interest

As a prelude to removing Jega from office, some close allies of the President had started accusing him of taking side with the opposition to undermine the success of Jonathan and his party in the next election. Earlier last week, Jonathan’s godfather, Chief Edwin Clark and other prominent politicians from the Southern part of the country had accused Jega of working against the interest of the president and the PDP and asked him to resign from the commission.

Although no evidence was adduced by Clark and his group to support their allegation, they nonetheless called for the arrest of Jega. Similarly, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Saturday, said Jega had lied about the state of the commission’s preparedness for the conduct of the election.

In the same vein, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh, accused INEC of working with the opposition to deny its members of permanent voter cards in some states. He called on the security agents to probe the commission over the development.

Religion / Ways Women Ask For Offering Indirectly On A Sunday Morning by Wisdytech(m): 7:12am On Feb 08, 2015
By Eyo Nse, (CEO Brainnews Ng),

According to my research for many years now, i had discovered that sunday morning normally starts with temptation if not properly treated.
Some ladies are too intelligent to noticed their trickish life in them, but if you use your number six (your brain) you gonna be the winner.

Below points will tell you some of the tricks they(Women) uses to win the men's heart for collection on sundays.

1. PLEASE, SPLIT THIS MONEY FOR ME: This is really popular among the ladies nowadays, maturily done by our sisters, and other female relatives. They tend to bring this so you consider giving them an offering for the day, they really select who to do this to because not everyone will like to listen to them. So kind people may fall for this.

2. CAN I JOIN YOU IN YOUR CAR?: Yes, so trickish in nature i may say, so you may have time to ask them, do you have an offering for today's service, relatives normally does this and sometimes, neighbours does it too, but rarely.

3. TODAY I WILL BE SITTING IN THE CHURCH WITH YOU: Hmmmm! Women there is God ooooo. Imagine trying to be closer to me on a Lord's day cos of offering? This interaction may end in:
Man: Why are you late today?
Woman: Yes ooo, i had no transport that is the reason.
Man: Oh God! Dnt tell me you do not have offering too?
Woman: How did you even know?
Man: Its ok! I will give you some money. Lol! For your mind you don see Mugu?

4. PRAY FOR ME, COS I WON'T COME TODAY: With this they (women) expect a positive response from the men, like, why won't you come? Are you sick? What is wrong with you? Etc. But in reality they need offering money for service that day. This is mainly done by neigbours and distance friends.

5. I HAD A DREAM LAST NIGHT GOD SAYS YOU SHOULD BLESS ME WITH AN OFFERING: Sorry to use this word, Foolish men normally faces this issue, they (Women) tends to use their head just to get what they want not forgeting that it is the Lords day(Holy day) they are in. So wise, or may i call it intelligent men may not fall for this.

IS THIS NOT HATRED, NAIRALANDERS?

Following Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the ongoing 2015 Africa Cup of Nations most Nigerians don’t seem keen on what has been going on in Equatorial Guinea. People who, ordinarily would have spent hours glued to the television if Nigeria had qualified, don’t seem to bother about the tournament in neighbouring country.

One of those who don’t care a hoot is immediate past captain of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo. “I don’t watch the Africa Cup of Nations,” the former Everton defender said, when asked of his opinion on the tournament, so far.

“With the Super Eagles not being in the tournament, my interest is not there,” he explained, saying that he would not be the best person to talk about the tournament, which is in its semi final stages.

After being informed of the last four countries in the semis, Yobo did not think twice in tipping the Black Stars of Ghana as the probable champions.

“I tip Ghana to win the tournament. As our brothers and long term allies, I would like them to win the tournament. Above all, I think they have a good team,” Yobo assessed.

Celebrities / Singer, Faze Becomes An Activist by Wisdytech(m): 10:15am On Feb 07, 2015
Kolomental master, Faze is back with a new song titled Common Sense. The song is a conscious Afro-beat inspired tune laced with contemporary instrumentation. Faze sounded like an activist in the song imploring Nigerians to use their common sense rather than waiting on the government.

He explains further in a chat with Showtime:” I think what’s happening in the environment inspired the song .Basically, issues that has to do with the government and the people. We tend to place blames on the government, forgetting that we have ours to deal with. All I am actually driving at is that we as individuals ,should play our part and the government too should do the same.

Speaking on his new year project he said: “The Faze brand still remains. I’m done with the album, it’ll be out sometime this year but before then I’ll be dropping two new singles. I Just dropped one called ‘Common Sense’.

Politics / Electricity Problem In Nigeria: Have We Truely Transited To Light? by Wisdytech(m): 9:07am On Feb 07, 2015

By Yudy Colenz,

As my thought lingers towards our daily experience faced by today’s Nigerian society. A question comes to mind. ’’WHAT AGE ARE WE IN’’?
A society like ours should be progressive in the sense that the past challenges that was lyricalized by Nigeria Afro Artist Fela Kuti, who refused to be placed in a state of incomminicado should not relaps or be experienced in our modern day society. If it should be, it should be in a lesser percentage.

The Nigeria today still experience retrogretion, mostly because of corruption, progress in any ramification does not take place in any dark atmosphere, for the past decades Nigeria have been struggling with insufficient POWER SUPPLY, everyday we will be echoeing that we are the GIANT OF AFRICA (maybe the type of giant that emergies from a dark cave). How true is that slogan? When we can’t deal with a little problem like electricity instability, yet we brag of 16years of democracy in a dark room. It sounds like riddle on the lips of drunkards in the state of insoberity. The present day government are trying i won’t fail to acknowlede that, but for how long will we continue in a trying state. We see power stations scattered all over Nigeria but not powered till now Why? Stories and tales came up like? “As soon as electricity is privatize that the will be a new lease of life in relation to that aspect” I dont know of other parts of this country but in my environs it might take up to 4 days for the electric bulb to spring back to life and when it does the kids jubilation is cut short by the same power company who slay the masses with exobitant bills (a common knowledge to everyone who uses public power supply) please our fathers!! our leaders!! small/medium scale businesses will thrive and also experience a mega boast if electricity improves, we try to advance our economy, dont we know that electricity is a sine qua non for such success?

I feel we may remain in this situation for a long period of time, WHY? you may ask. there is a native adage that says “owo okopo uyuko abara ikang ke ikpat ono owo obiong” meaning “A person who stomach is filled with food will do little or less for those who are starving” this is not a prognosis but reality. How will the progress to meet light stability be speedy or attained when our leaders own mega electrical plants and lister in their domain and dwellings, meaning that little or nothing is felt about the people they govern. In my opinion any leader that will choose to use public electricity will act speedily to a new and perfect face of electricity. Every catalyst that propels todays modern day society still circle back to electricity. Is it the cyber? the small/medium scale business and larger enterprenure e.t.c.

Finally, today we are all focusing on the political scene and the politicians or maybe politrickcians here and there are going about giving empty manifestos in their various campaigns. The distribution of information is in a state of dereliction still because of limited power supply. The question still lingers “where do our so-called power supplying companies get the power to supply when the campaign team gets to our state? And the funny thing is, the light will remain uninterupted althrough the whole campaign activities and after that the light goes extinct, funny isnt it? look at the society we live in. I pray God help us. so the question still remains “HAVE WE TRUELY TRANSITED FROM THE DARK AGE TO LIGHT IN OUR COUNTRY?

This article is not in any form political. It is the thought of every Nigerian Masses.

*** Steps to get the 200MB for free: Dial, *141*13*200# (And you should see congratulation you had successfully added 200MB for free, expires in 14 days time).

Education / An Open Letter To The Current UNICAL SUG President And His Government by Wisdytech(m): 5:55pm On Feb 05, 2015
VIOLENCE CAUSE BY FINAL YEAR STUDENTS OF UNICAL:

By Eyo Nse, (CEO Brainnews Ng),

Having a peace of mind is really beneficial when you provide it for everyone including your so called enemies. Although Violent cause by students is not new in UNICAL but is too frequent than its suppose to be.

This pass days UNICAL students and its environs had been living in fears as if a third world war is about to start, even as the general elections is few days from now.

Just this week alone, many bad incidents had been recorded both inside the school compound and its environs, both cause by UNICAL final year students.
The First that shocked the whole school was on Sunday when a female student was raped in the male hostel.
Shock also came the following day when some final year students were jubilating of completing their degree examination when some heavy young men stormed the venue, with a blink of an eye gun shots, broken bottles and some cutlasses were seen and heard in the school relaxing center (LOVE GARDEN) students took to their heels and every where was scattered cos of it, it only took some time for the School security to calm down the situation., afterwards some suspected students were arrested. That same evening, we believe to be caused by the same gang, they later killed someone which was believed to be a student of UNICAL in a market very closed to UNICAL (Goldie market).
It also went well though, on the third day when some jubilating student got themselves drunk with alcohol till violent broke between them in Goldie Street behind NNPC filling station, it didnt toke long before some gun shots were fired into the air, but thank God no death was recorded but residence closed to the place took shelter for safty.

The SUG has alot of work to perform in this aspect, like:
1) To let the entire students to be away of the incident before its too late.

2) Inform those involve in the previous violence that they are not above the law, that if caught justice will take its effect.

3) If possible meet with the school authority so they can send round (Customise SMS) to inform all students to refrain from the ongoing crime, believed to be violated by Students who had engaged themselves in an acultic associations earlier in their study year.

4) Let them know that if any student is caught in the above incident his or her Certificate will not be release untill proper damages done is repair.

5) Since this issue has not or is yet to affect the SUG president or his cabinet in person, an epileptic issues should not be seen in it, but rather a progressive action is required to protect the interest, lives and the properties of the innocent students who came in from their different homes to study in the school.

I believe this proverb will be applied as situation on ground is not too late to be evicted, ”MAKE HAYS WHILE THE SUN SHINETH”.

NOTE: This article is not meant to condemn anyone, group, institute or even government, but a way to see that this negative issue(s) is treated once and for all.

Politics / INEC Distributes 1.3m Voter Cards In Akwa Ibom by Wisdytech(m): 7:40am On Feb 03, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has so far distributed 1,328,715 permanent voter cards for the forthcoming elections in Akwa Ibom State.

The state resident electoral commissioner (REC) Mr Austin Okojie who stated this in Uyo at a stakeholder’s forum explained that the figure represents 91.4 per cent of the total cards meant for the electorate in the state.

Okojie hinted that the commission had taken delivery of 3,813 card readers to be distributed at each of the polling units across the state.

He disclosed that the card readers has been configured to suit specific polling units and was not transferable.

The resident electoral commissioner also informed the forum which consists of representatives of political parties, security agencies, the media and civil societies that reading of permanent voter cards would only take minutes per voter.

He explained that the card reading machines were new and had been manufactured to make accreditation more effective and stress free within the election period adding that accreditation of eligible voters would only be done using the card reader and on the presentation of PVCs.

Okojie who warned against malpractices during the poll however advised the peoples of the state to embrace peace and shun any act inimical to the conduct of the elections.

Kim Kardashian Seriously Wants a Selfie With Jesus, Calls North West Her “Biggest Achievement” to Date:

Is there such a thing as a selfie wish list?

If so, Kim Kardashian definitely admitted to having one Monday morning while participating in a Twitter Q&A in support of T-Mobile.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star—who just so happens to be the author of the upcoming selfie book Selfish—was asked who she would love to snap a photo with in the future. Her answer may just surprise you.

“My dad,” she tweeted back with two purple heart emojis. “Or Jesus. Or Marilyn Monroe. I can’t decide. ^KKW #KimsDataStash.” That’s quite the list you’ve got there Kimmie.

Luckily, Kardashian has plenty of photos to choose from for her latest book featuring some of her best selfies.

“It ended up turning out so cool that we came up with this idea to do a book—a selfie book,” Kim recently said on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “I’m going to make some, like, super-racy. I mean, every girl takes like full like pictures of their ass in the mirror.”

Believe it or not, selfies aren’t the only thing on Kim’s mind these days. Instead, the 34-year-old can’t stop gushing about baby North West.

When asked by a fan about her greatest accomplishments, Kim couldn’t help but mention her youngest family member.

“Having my daughter is my biggest achievement,” she tweeted. “All the things you used to do, you just don’t care about anymore. Your child becomes the #1 priority.”

And while the E! star is so happy with just one kid, she certainly is open to expanding her family sooner rather than later.

“We’ve really been trying for another kid,” she revealed to People. “More kids can’t come soon enough!”

Crime / A Female Unical Student Raped In Male Hostel (photo) by Wisdytech(m): 6:51am On Feb 03, 2015
Source: http://brainnewsng.com/a-female-unical-student-raped-in-male-hostel-photo/

A female student, ‘malabress’ as they are acceptably called has been reported raped by a 300-level student of Faculty of Art from Bekwara Local Government Area and member of the Student Union Government (SUG) parliament representing Hall 4 annex (name; withheld).

According to our reporter, “the scene happened in the evening of yesterday when two malabresses went to visit their course mate in Hall 4, Male Hostel. On entering his corner, their male friend sent one of them downstairs to buy pure water; and as she innocently left the room, the male student started forcing the remaining female student to mating.

“It was after over 5 minutes of forceful negotiation, that the female student started screaming. On hearing the helpless voice, other male students from nearby room forcefully broke into the unlucky guy’s room and found the girl who claimed to be a virgin already naked and trying to put-on her pants”.

Health / Eating Apple Daily Increases Sexual Arousal In Women –study by Wisdytech(m): 12:20am On Feb 02, 2015

It is a common saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. But beyond the health benefits of apple for both men and women, it seems to have a lot to contribute to the sexual satisfaction of women, as it has been found to improve their sex lives. Thus, there is a link between apple and sexual performance for women.

Previous findings have shown that eating apple has many benefits, including its ability to reduce the risk of diabetes and heart attack, ward off breast cancer, lower blood fat levels in post menopausal women and reduce the risk of stroke.

In fact, eating apple everyday for six months was found to cut cholesterol by almost a quarter, apart from the fact that it prevents dementia (loss of brain functions that occurs with certain diseases) and improves neurological health by reducing cellular death. These were attributed to its high-fibre content and that it produces more saliva to reduce tooth decay and detoxify the liver.

Interestingly, apple is not the only common edible item that can help women to be aroused, some previous studies revealed that red wine and chocolate also help women to become aroused, because of the resveratrol compound found in both and the presence of sexually stimulating polyphenols and antioxidants in them.

However, beyond all these heart-warming benefits, study by researchers at Santa Chiara Regional Hospital in Trento, Italy, showed that daily apple consumption enhances the sex life of women and helps them to be sexually satisfied. They believe that the compound phloridzin present in apples play a large role in sexual arousal and vaginal lubrication in women and ultimately their sexual satisfaction.

The researchers indeed found that women who eat apples regularly are more likely to have better sex because of some nutrients in the fruit, even though many people, especially women, eat apple for fun, without necessarily understanding its impact on their sexual life.

In the study, which lasted for eight months, the researchers, who sought to find a link between daily apple consumption and sexual libido, studied 781 Italian women aged between 18 and 43.

The researchers established that these women had no history or complaint of sexual disorder or depression and they ascertained that none of the women was taking prescription medications for the two ailments.

Thereafter, they were divided into two groups, with one section instructed to eat between one and two apples a day and the other section told not to eat any. Then, the participants were asked to fill a Female Sexual Function Index, a form, which asked 19 questions about their sexual activities including orgasm, lubrication, frequency of sexual intercourse, overall sexual satisfaction and were asked to report on their daily consumption of the apples as instructed.

The researchers found that eating an apple a day was linked with higher FSFI scores by the participants, which suggested that it increased their overall sexual function or pleasure.

They found that the women who consumed apple daily had higher scores on the sexual function index, especially in the lubrication and sexual performance categories, than those who didn’t eat apple, suggesting that those women who ate apples on a regular basis had a greater sexual function, thereby reporting higher levels of arousal and satisfaction.

The extent to which sex would be enjoyed by a woman depends largely on how lubricated the vagina is, because it reduces friction that may arise from the man’s penile penetration. Inadequate lubrication may put the man and the woman in serious pains and either of them could sustain injuries on their genitals.

The researchers established that apples contain phloridzin, a crystalline glucoside that is structurally similar to a female sex hormone, estradiol, which plays a huge role in vaginal lubrication and sexual arousal. Hence, the phloridzin, which is extracted from the bark of fruits like apple, improves female sexuality and lubrication.

According to the study, published in Archives of Gynaecology and Obsterics, the fruit also contains polyphenols and antioxidants that can increase blood flow to the genitals, hence, boosting arousal and sexual performance.

“We found that women who regularly ate apples, at least one a day, had better quality sex life,” Tommaso Cai, one of the lead researchers, told The Local.

Cai said that while good physical health and daily intake of vegetables also help boost women’s sexual desire, the most important factor is floridazina, a compound found beneath the skin of the apple that is similar to the hormone estradiol, which plays an important role in female sexual arousal.

He said, “All the women who included an apple or more a day in their diet ate them unpeeled and they scored higher on the sex-related questions.

“But fear not ladies, you don’t have to restrict yourselves to fruit and vegetables to feel aroused, wine and chocolate are also aphrodisiacs. A research few years ago found that the antioxidants in wine and chocolate also help improve sex.

“Apples contain polyphenols and antioxidants, which can increase blood flow to the Instruments (the genitals), as well as phloridzin, a type of estrogen similar to the female sex hormone estradiol that improves vaginal lubrication. Consequently, the more apples women consume, the higher the level of lubrication and sexual function.

“It’s also possible that the sexual health benefits come more from apple peels, which have high concentrations of helpful phenolic compound, than from the apples themselves.

Reacting to the study, a consultant endocrinologist, Dr. Michael Olamoyegun, said estradiol, which is the main hormone in females, enhances vaginal lubrication and sexual performance, adding that anything that contains it or the ingredients needed for its production would give the same benefits.

“If apple contains a compound that has similar structure with estradiol, it may probably have the same sexual benefits for women; lubricating the vagina and increasing libido because those are the functions of estradiol or oestrogen.

“Also, anything that will enhance further synthesis of estradiol will still serve the same function because even if apple does not contain estradiol but contains the ingredient from which it would be produced, then, apple would increase the concentration of the compound in the body and enhance those functions.”

He explained that if there is lubrication, there would be enhanced sexual performance, noting that the absence of the lubrication is what makes sex painful for women who have reached menopause because of the dryness in their vagina.

“In menopausal women, the oestrogen or estradiol is low and that is why they have tightness and dry vagina. This explains why they have pain while having sex and that is why we tell them to use cream that contains estradiol for lubrication,” he added.

Olamoyegun explained that almost all fruits contain polyphenols and antioxidants and eating food items or fruits that contain these compounds would increase blood flow.

“If apple contains high concentration of polyphenols and antioxidants, it will increase blood flow, and once you have blood flow to a particular organ, it will enhance its elasticity such that the place tends to expand during sexual performance and there won’t be pain, as it would also increase satisfaction,” he added.

Also commenting on the study, a nutritionist, Dr. Okunola Oladimeji, said even though the study had not been done in Nigeria, the study is true because of the many benefits of eating apple.

“Apple has powerful antioxidants and it contains so many things that are good for health, so I want to agree that it is possible,” he said.

Politics / How UK Forced Jonathan, Nigeria To Pay Odi N15bn Compensation by Wisdytech(m): 3:02am On Feb 01, 2015
But for the intervention of the United Kingdom, the Federal Government would not have negotiated and paid N15billion compensation to Odi, the Bayelsa State community invaded and destroyed by the military in 1999.

Chairman of the Odi Destruction Case Prosecution Committee (ODCPC), Prof. Kobina Imananagha, said yesterday in Yenagoa that the Federal Government used all delay tactics at its disposal, including litigations, to avoid payment of the N37.6billion compensation which the Federal High Court, Port-Harcourt, ordered it to pay the community on February 19, 2014.

Prof. Imananagha said that rather than obey the court judgement, the federal government went to the appeal court six times to overturn the initial verdict, only to fail on each occasion.

He said the saving grace was a London court which the community approached and which issued an October 21, 2014 deadline to government to negotiate settlement and pay the agreed compensation to Odi people.

He said: “On February 19, 2014, a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt gave its judgement ordering the Federal Government of Nigeria to pay within three weeks N37.6billion as compensation for the destruction of Odi in 1999.

“The court order was not complied with; instead, the Federal Government and its agents, the CBN, appealed against the judgement six times and finally lost out. The refusal of the Federal Government of Nigeria to comply with the judgement deadline brought pressure upon the government from both Nigeria and UK.

“The London court issued threats that it was going to enforce the full judgement of the court (payment of N37.6billiom) if by October 21, 2014, government fails to negotiate settlement and pay agreed compensation to Odi.

“This seeming that compelled the Federal Ministry of Justice and the leadership of the legal team, ODCPC and the king of Odi to the negotiation table on May 26, 2014 where N15billion (as the only and final payment) offer as compensation to Odi was made by the Federal Government”.

Prof. Imananagha denied insinuation that his committee tampered with the compensation.

He said the committee members conceded six of the 10 per cent awarded it to make up for their personal resources, time, numerous travels and risk to life in getting judgement for the people.

He said: “The council, in order to encourage the committee that I led, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ODCPC which awarded 10 per cent of whatever amount that would be paid as compensation for their services should the Odi win the case.

“That MoU which was signed by the king and his 28 Chiefs in council thus became a legally binding document that empowered us and appropriated what came to us. This is the money purportedly stolen by us”.

Imananagha who showed documents to prove different stages of the agreements said that after the lawyers had taken their own dues what remained for the community to share was N9billion.

He said trouble started when the committee members decided to deduct their dues as previously agreed in the MoU.

“The MoU and the ODCPC hitherto signed with the king and his council and by extension the entire Odi community legally entitled the committee to collect 10 per cent as payment for our 10 years services in bringing justice to Odi.

“However, out of share magnanimity and without any prompting, the ODCPC collected only 6 per cent instead of the 10 per cent earlier agreed thereby forfeiting N600m for the benefit of Odi.

“As if this gesture was not good enough we were prevailed upon to make further concessions to Odi people by reducing the percentage to four. We again conceded to Odi another N300m on the condition that the money would be used to upgrade the Odi General Hospital.

“Rather than appreciate us for our role and sacrifices, we were rather labeled black reminiscent of giving the proverbial dog a bad name in order to hang it. What wrong has the king of Odi and his council or my humble self and my committee done to deserve this campaign of calumny?”

He commended the intervention of deputy Governor of the state, Rear Admiral John Jonah (rtd) and said without the move, the crisis in the community would have deepened.

He said: “ Odi youths must not allow themselves to be used as tools in the hands of anybody under whatever guise no matter the promptings so as not to repeat the incident that precipitated the calamity that befell the community 15 years ago”.

Celebrities / NOLLYWOOD: Aki Turns Football Promoter by Wisdytech(m): 8:33am On Jan 31, 2015
By Emmanuel Elebeke,

Star-actor, Chinedu Ikedieze (MFR), recently donated a trophy to his hometown, Bende, in Abia State, to further promote peaceful co-existence among indigenes of the state. The football competition was named Uzuakoli Peace Cup.

Speaking on why he donated the trophy, Aki said, “I donated the cup to my community to promote peace and unity.

It was named Uzuakoli Peace Cup. This was part of activities preceding my one month vacation.” At the end of the competition, a winner emerged. The actor, who was present at the trophy presentation described the camaraderie the competition brought to his community as a solid foundation for lasting peace.

“When young people work and play together, love grows, there is also peace in that society. That was why I decided to sponsor that mini competition while I was on vacation. I had to fly back home for the trophy presentation and return to my family. Next year, we will strive to make the competition take a larger scope by involving the entire Local Government Council. We just pray that we get the required funds to do that,” Aki said.
