Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party, of oppressing Nigerians.

Oshiomhole said Nigerians have continued to suffer under the 16-year leadership of the PDP as a result of the party’s dedication “to preserve the privileges of the few.”

The governor made the utterances while receiving defectors from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benin, the Edo State capital.

Oshiomhole accused the Federal Government of not allowing Nigerians enjoy the benefits of the country’s rich oil deposits, adding that the ruling party is similar to “an impotent man”.

He said: “Today is not just the fact of the huge number in this hall but it is also about the quality of the brains that have now join us; and in a world that is knowledge-driven, it is only the party that can parade the best brains that can drive the sustainable change that Nigeria is currently battling with in order to bail our people from its present political quagmire.”

“The man who has a shop must close by 6 pm. If he operates beyond 6pm, he must put on a generator, and buy petrol or diesel. For 16 years, PDP can’t give us light. But if they were to leave us in peace even in the dark, it will be bad enough but for them, that is not bad enough.”

“From Otuoke to Benin City, to Lagos, to Ekpoma, to Iyahmo, to Sokoto, kerosene is now between N150 and N160 per litre. For every N150 you spend in buying a litre of kerosene, PDP steals N100 because in the books of NNPC, they have it on records that kerosene is N50 per litre.”

Sports / Africa Solidly Behind Blatter, Football Officials Say by Wisdytech(m): 3:33pm On Jan 28, 2015

Mongono (Equatorial Guinea) – Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association, on Tuesday said African countries would vote overwhelmingly for Sepp Blatter in this year’s FIFA elections.

Blatter faces four challengers in his bid for re-election on May 29, when he seeks a fifth term as FIFA President which will take him past his 80th birthday.

Nyantakyi said at Mongono in Equatorial Guinea that Africa was solidly behind Blatter.

“You will find (that) he is very popular on the continent.

“He has done a lot for the continent. It is he who has set up the Financial Assistance Programme (FAP) and who through the Goal Project has built infrastructure in all of the countries,” he added.

Nyantakyi however said the European members of FIFA do not understand this, and have instead argued that it was not Blatter’s money but that of FIFA he was using.

“But that’s not the point. It is Blatter that set up all the assistance programmes that have helped boost African football,’’ the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee member said.

“FIFA Goal Project is Blatter’s pet project, inaugurated not long after he came to power in 1998, and it has built training centres, accommodation, pitches and offices for cash-strapped associations,’’ he added.

Nyantakyi recalled that each of the ruling body’s 209 member-associations receive generous grants with more than one billion dollars paid out during Blatter’s tenure.
“This is under FIFA’s FAP, introduced in 2001,’’ he said.

Molefi Oliphant, à former President of South African Football Association (SAFA) and CAF Executive, said Blatter’s prospective opponents are likely to get little support from the 53 African voters.

“The continent is united behind him (Blatter),” he said.

“We have made a formal endorsement of his candidacy last year at our meeting in Rio de Janeiro already,’’ Oliphant added.

Oliphant said the affection for Blatter stems from the generous financial assistance he has given Africa during his 17-year tenure.

Meanwhile, Michael van-Praag, the President, Dutch Football Association (KNVB), has also announced his intention to run for the office.

This was as a result of similar moves by former FIFA Deputy Secretary General Jerome Champagne and Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan.

Former France international David Ginola was also standing in what was widely regarded as being a publicity stunt.(Reuters/NAN).
Politics / I’m Not Desperate To Govern Akwa Ibom — Umana by Wisdytech(m): 3:09pm On Jan 28, 2015
My plans for Akwa Ibom:

FORMER Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Umana Umana, in this interview ventilates his mastery of the key issues on governance in the state, concluding that a different approach to governance would be adopted if he emerges victorious in the forthcoming governorship election.

By Charles Kumolu,

When did you get the inspiration to become governor?

I gave it some thoughts four years ago after which I quietly started consulting. I consulted with the political leaders in the state. Then I was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. I consulted with the major political leaders and stakeholders. I have been around in the state for sometime. I also extended my consultation even to those who are not directly involved in politics. These people include the paramount rulers, labour groups and other interest groups in the state. They all conceded that they knew me as a civil servant who rose to the pinnacle of his career. They all acknowledged knowing me as the director of Budget, commissioner for finance, before being appointed as the Secretary to the State Government, SSG. I must say that the response I got from the consultations was very positive. They urged me to run.

Did you consult with the governor?

Incidentally, the governor was the one who asked me to consider running. He said to me that we were colleagues in the administration of Victor Attah. He said he had watched me closely and believed that I have what it takes to lead the state at the level of governor. The governor encouraged me at that time. But it was not only the governor who did so.

When did he encourage you to run and when did you part ways?

It was immediately after his re-election in 2011. I will say that we had certain fundamental differences as to how the affairs of the party could be conducted. This basically had to do with whether we should abide by democratic principles or whether we should undermine democratic principles in the running of the party. At some point in 2013, he decided for reasons best to him, that he would be the only one who would decide whether I will be governor.

I never thought so. If he supported me that was okay, but then I will still have to go through the process of presenting myself for the primaries. I looked at it from the point that the delegates would elect me at the primaries. One day he decided that he had other ideas as to who the governor would be.

But what is wrong with zoning?

Zoning issue was very contentious. There was no consensus on zoning. All the principal leaders in the state also affirmed that we have never had zoning. In 2006 there were 58 contestants from the three senatorial districts.

This new arrangement against open contest was unacceptable. But the national leadership of the party supported the subversion of the will of the majority. By the virtue of that letter from the national leadership of the party, I was excluded from participating in the primaries. The only option for me was to go to court. I did that by challenging my exclusion. The PDP has always made people to believe that Akwa Ibom is a one party state. I consulted widely and my people said that since the party cannot accommodate us, we should go to an alternative platform. Of course we had to move to the APC. I have been vindicated because our fight that the primaries should be open was on the basis of principles. People thought that all of us, who maintained that position were being driven by interests. But the outcome of the PDP primaries has vindicated us. The other aspirants who go by the name G-22 are aggrieved about the outcome.

You were reputed to be the power behind Akpabio making some to think that most of the things you complained about were orchestrated by you?

That is not true. That belief cannot fly because the governor is the one in charge. I was not the power behind anybody. I served as Secretary to the State Government which is lower than the position of the governor. The governor is so powerful with the power to hire and fire. Everything financial was approved by the governor and that is why people say that the buck stops on his table. When I win in a few weeks time, you can talk about the Umana administration and I will accept the responsibility.

What is your agenda for Akwa Ibom?

Many of us talk of the fact that we have to rescue Akwa Ibom. That suggests that we are poised to reposition the state. We want to bring about a leadership that would respect the people. Our leadership will show that we have respect for the people. Respect is a core ingredient of leadership. We want to attract serious investment in the state. Every serious investor, wants a leadership that carries the people along. If we fail to achieve that in Akwa Ibom, investors will go to Cross River which is the closest alternative. We need reorientation many directions. If God gives me the opportunity to govern the state, I will do that.

We must put in place economic structures that can bring about sustainable development with or without oil. That is the focal point of my agenda. To achieve that, I will focus on job and wealth creation. We have never been so divided like now, so we must unite so that we can have that sense of purpose. I have a blue print which captures all I intend to do.

We want to bring the Dangotes to Akwa Ibom by providing the right incentives. We will consciously do that on a PPP basis. As a major plank of our strategy to industrialise the state, we will support, small and medium scale enterprises and in doing that we will support our people so that they can develop entrepreneurial capacity. I believe that is lacking in our state. There is no economy in the world that can develop without strong entrepreneurs. We will even arrange partnership where possible within and outside Nigeria.

There are also some key projects like the sea port which the Federal Government is already working on. We will partner with the Federal Government so that it can become a reality.

We will also set up large farm ventures. It has been done in two states in Nigeria, so we will look at those templates and see how we can create job for our people in the areas where we have comparative advantage. The airport in its present state, is a structure that we will have to spend money to maintain. And that is not the way to go. We will ensure that we make it an income generating facility.

Of course we will build cargo terminal. That will give the South East zone an alternative place to get their goods. We also believe that tourism is a veritable platform to create jobs and grow our economy, we will harness our potentialities. Akwa Ibom is blessed with structures that will generate money through tourism.

What is your relationship with the 22 aggrieved PDP governorship aspirants?

I welcomed them back from Abuja in Uyo. Of course they commended me as the front runner in the struggle for the enthronement of transparent leadership. They said they would not support the PDP candidate because the process that produced him was flawed.

The process that produced you as the APC candidate was also allegedly fraught with irregularities, what is your view on that?

On the day of the primaries, the venue was invaded by one of the aspirants. He invaded the venue with thugs and made away with ballot boxes, ballot papers and result sheets. The panel authorised to conduct the primaries had to announce that the APC national executive council had been notified about the incident.

They told everyone that the national body had directed them to read out the names of the aspirants so that delegates will file behind their preferred aspirants. That was how I emerged as the winner of the primaries.

Celebrities / Omotola Marks 20 Nollywood Years With Stella Maris Pupils by Wisdytech(m): 11:50pm On Jan 27, 2015

•kicks off 20-city world tour

All roads led to Stella Maris College in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde kicked-off celebrations, marking her 20 years in the Nigerian movie industry, otherwise called Nollywood.

The famous Nollywood star also used the event to flag off her tour of 20 cities in the world, as part of the programmes outlined for the celebration, which commenced at the weekend.

To Omosexy, as she is popularly called, the event was an opportunity to encourage younger generations to believe in themselves for a better nation.

“That was my motivation,” said the Nollywood star, “to meet with young children”.

She also used the occasion to launch her pet project ‘I gat value’ and also motivated the young pupils by sharing her experience while growing up to stardom.

According to Omotola, “what is lacking most among us in Nigeria is value. We don’t feel valued. I wonder if our government care about us. What is the value of a Nigerian child? How many people died in France and the whole world was in France? Even our President is sending commiserating messages to them and his not acknowledging all the things happening here in northern Nigeria. Are northerners not part of Nigerians anymore?” She asked.

She said, as father of the nation, who was voted in during the 2011 election, it was expected of President Goodluck Jonathan to be accountable and protect the citizens.

“…today we have Nigerians bombing one another, killed and all scattered. It appears nobody cares anymore. There is jungle justice everywhere and nobody is being held. How many Nigerian students have died in this country? Who is protecting them and fighting for their cause?

However, the thespian emphasised the need for Nigerians to value themselves, irrespective of whether the government cared about its citizens or otherwise.

The celebrity, who has carved a niche for herself in the industry, is considered a major player in Nollywood, the third-ranked entertainment industry globally.

The students described Omotola as a living legend and a role model to many of them. They celebrated her as a humble wife and great mother who has kept her marriage intact unlike her contemporaries and urged her to share her secret of success so they could grow to be like her.

Earlier, representative of the pupils, Isigwe Chiamaka, in her opening remarks, celebrated the actress’ achievements and thanked her for choosing their school as a flag-off point for her world city tour.

Omotola, who is also a United Nations Peace Ambassador, is married to Captain Matthew Ekeinde and they have four children.

Popular Motivational Speaker, Linus Okorie, told the students that to become a leader was a personal choice they must make. He advised them to own a dream book which could be used to write their ideas and embark on research

“Identifying your purpose and locating your talent is what makes you better and greater than your contemporaries,” said Okorie, who has been a Leadership Coach for 20 years. “Set goals to be great and focus on your goals.”

Okorie said the actress’ visit to the school showed that the school has potentials capable of repositioning the country.

Omosexy eventually took pictures with the school officials as well as students.

Ok, calm down, it’s not as bad as you think. He’s very comfortable and this isn’t as a result of him being broke.

This is the tale of former Westlife band member.

Some of you might know Mark Feehily, he was a member of the very then famous all boy band group — Westlife. Mark was the one that came out later after the group disbanded to say he was gay.

Anyways, the gist is that Mark is now selling snacks & coffee from a catering van.

The 34 year old has set up his own catering business. He travels round festivals with his van and he serves customers food and drinks himself from the back of his truck.

When asked about it, Mark said: – “It’s going really well, we’ve got loads of interest and we’ve booked it in with a lot of the music festivals and we’re talking about doing some Irish ones as well. People were flabbergasted at the fact that I was in the van making crepes. People kind of have this thing ‘Oh, he was in Westlife a few years ago and now he’s making tea. It’s my business and I love it, anything I get involved in I get involved 110%.”

Mark says he hasn’t given up on music yet though and is planning to launch a solo career.

Westlife disbanded in 2011 after 14 years together; during their career, they notched 26 top 10 hits.
Politics / Buhari To Tell Facts And History’ About Himself In New Website by Wisdytech(m): 9:43pm On Jan 26, 2015

Following recent controversies about some aspects of the life of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muhammadu Buhari, which are not known by the public, the political camp of the former head of state has created a website for the sole purpose of telling ‘facts and history’ about Buhari.

The website is populated with articles extolling the virtues of Buhari, with a timeline on the homepage starting from 1976, when he was appointed as Federal commissioner for Petroleum Resources by the head of state of at the time, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo.

Other articles on the website include the Oil Gate Scandal, War Against Indiscipline: Environmental Sanitation, among others.

Buhari is the presidential candidate of the main opposition party in the country, APC, and the major challenger of President Goodluck Jonathan, who is contesting to be re-elected at the February 14 presidential election under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The new website, created by Babajide Akeredolu, an IT expert, is expected to clear the air on several issues many Nigerians do not really understand about the former head of state, and hopefully clear sentiments against him in some quarters.
