Hello wismen045,

ICAN transcript is the easiest to get. You go to Ebute-metta, pay 10k and apply.

I think it takes about 1 week or so to get.

My response to your PM was not successful.

Thanks. PM is failing. Do I have to request/go in person? I am not in Lagos.

Too little symptoms listed but might be an auto-immune issue. Most likely thyroid related. Funny how this is not easily diagnosed in Nigeria especially when the goitre and eyes are not showing any signs.

Please, stop patronising these ''road side'clinics''. You obviously have a serious health issue. Your best bet still remains a University Teaching Hospital. You would have a lot of examination & lab test done to rule out a lot of other health issues.

Do act fast.

Hmmmn. That feeling you get when you ran away from being assessed as accountant because of ceiling but ceiling came out and accountant quota nearly doubles. It is well.

Please who knows how people get 105 points? I sincerely and urgently need to change my bathing soap to the kind of soap these high pointers use.

Brother, don't get discouraged.

I didn't know Unilorin Accounting is also a victim.

@wisemen045, as it is, you have to choose between ICAA and CPA when you are ready.

Sticking with CPA for now because I had initiated move to register as a member before now. I had to put it on hold when it appears I might be given an associate membership instead of full CPA. I will just go along with it for the GSM assessment. The process and waiting time is not as stressful as that of VETASSESS. Wondering what I was thinking before sef.

praiseisgood! lol @ hired assisin's salaries.

You really did justice to this.

@wisemen045,

UniIlorin is a good school for Vetassess. So you have loads of options - Internal Auditor, External Auditor, General Accountant.

I am an Internal Auditor in a financial institution and I got positive assessments for both External Auditor and General Accountant from ICAA.I wasnt lucky with Vetassess cos my school (OOU and course - 4 years) was not seen as being equivalent to Australian Bachelors.

Disectur can put you through on the Internal Audit route, I can help out with ICAA while you consult Praiseisgood for CPA. The choice is really yours to make.

The advantage Vetassess has over both ICAA and CPA is that no English test is required before your assessment. ICAA and CPA require a minimum of 65 and 7 in PTE and IELTS respectively.

I hope this helps you further in making your choice.

Thanks. I will love to see a sample of your reference if you don't mind. You know our HR people can be very conscious of what they write/give as reference. Can I use declaration if the reference issued to me by the company does not describe my JD adequately to meet the expectations of the assessing bodies? Can I send you a PM?

Oga Disectur I have sent you a PM.

@wisemen045,

Internal Auditor and External Auditor are in the same unit group (2211). Hence, you will most likely get a positive outcome giving your qualifications.

All you need do is to word your reference appropriately.

What is assessed by CPA is that you have appropriate level of competency requires of an External Auditor not necessarily that you are presently an External Auditor.

What are these competencies? They include things like audit, escalating control issues for management attention, financial investigation, ensuring compliance with regulatory enactments and so on. All these I believe you do as a control person.

Like I said earlier, please read up CPA and CAA sites for their peculiarities. There demands are far less than Vetasses. They are also cheaper.

Given your profile, you are a big man so cost should not be an issue. I learnt they pay bankers hired assasin's salaries.

Per adventure you need further clarification after reading the sites, 'am sure toslad will be glad to assist concerning ICAA while I will oblige your request on CPA.

Good morning.

Ha! Evans crew should not hear this ''hired assassin salary'' story oo.

Thanks so much. I have registered for IELTS too. I will keep you all updated as things progress.

Also check out the required skills of External Auditor/General Accountant from both ICAA and CPA.

Can my internal audit (control) experience be used to assess as external auditor with these bodies?

@ Wisemen 045,

If I may ask, why are you assessing with Vetasses?

If you have the requisite qualifications, I advise you assess as an external auditor with either ICAA or CPA.

Both Internal Audit and External Audit are in the same unit group.

Advantages include cost savings and quick response time.

You may read up their sites for more information for their uniqueness.

CPA accepts statutory declaration for employment and you can do it yourself.

Just write your job details, reason you were unable to get reference from your employer and tell a notory public to certify it.

I thought VETASSESS was my only way out ni oo.

I have a degree in accounting and also Chartered with ICAN. My work experience (10 years) is spread across three financial institutions. All in internal control with various positions like Resident Control officer, Control & compliance officer, Cluster Control officer etc. Internal audit exists as a separate department in these companies though we carry out very similar and complementary roles in actual fact.

You mentioned I could assess as an external auditor, how do I go about this? Won't I have to support the request with offer letters etc Is there any work around.

Kindly guide further please. I appreciate your assistance.

toslad & disectur,

Thanks. I have sent disectur a PM. At this point it is better to try all open options.

e-Family,

Greetings.

My current employer, a financial institution, has declined my request for employment reference to VETASSESS (internal auditor).

I saw something about a ''witness'' in Oga Bellong's sample. Just to be sure. Please, who is supposed to swear the statutory declaration of employment. Is it the applicant quoting his supervisor's details or the supervisor stating the applicant works with him?

Which is better/acceptable; a notary public or taking the declaration to the court for declaration?

Travel / Re: General Guide To Australian Permanent Resident Visa Through Skilled Migration. by wisemen045(m): 12:37pm On Jun 22, 2017
@TEECAN

1-4: I just started the process myself. Most of what I know was read here and on the DIBP website. That said, It is only the assessing body that can determine if what you have is comparable to Australian education or not. From what I have read, CPA, CA and IPA are more flexible than VETASSESS. Good that you don't have plans to nominate Internal auditor as an occupation. I personally have corresponded with IPA and CA before and I find IPA more forthcoming with information. It is better you know what your chances are before committing money. You should consider mailing IPA and CA on below emails:

IPA: migration@publicaccountants.org.au
CAANZ: migration@charteredaccountantsanz.com

5: The Accountant occupation (general, management, tax) and auditor occupations (Internal & external) get filled up quickly. You would need to aim for minimum of 70 -75 points to boost your chances of getting an invite and to shorten your waiting time in the pool. And yes these occupations are still on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). Only Accountant (general) is flagged. A new cycle (year) starts July 1, 2017. Check out link below:

https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Work/Work/Skills-assessment-and-assessing-authorities/skilled-occupations-lists/mltssl

6: All the assessing bodies list/state the competency areas/core/foundational courses on their website. Do follow link below for that of IPA:

tyosho got grant as an accountant. Kindly calling on other Accountants/Auditors to assist with information.

Trudax, don't know if you've seen this but this is a finely written piece by a Nigerian.
http://www.gamji.com/article6000/NEWS7430.htm

A great article. It is simply a summary of this thread.

Hear Baba:

''Geldof's beautiful BBC documentary and book, Geldof in Africa demonstrate African poverty and development challenges. Everybody knows that blacks have peculiar problems. But many blacks are afraid of reality. Instead of looking for help, they prefer self-delusions and excuses. Whether Europe underdeveloped Africa or Africans underdeveloped Africa, as some authors suggest, or that blacks were left plundered, disoriented and confused by their triple heritage, is not our concern here. As blacks, we need to be realistic and dispassionate. Look around the world. Are what you see what blacks deserve? Our attempt here is to suggest why (in a group) blacks are retrogressive and unorganized. I believe Blackman is sensible and intelligent like other humans, but he ceases to display sensible human behaviors (that lead to prosperity and progress) when he forms a group. There is a gap between individuals' and group's learning and growth. Therefore, Africans appear to need higher ratio of improved/educated part of population than other races to be able to gravitate towards a critical mass of individuals necessary to form useful and irreversible characteristics. Otherwise, there may be ‘spur of a moment’ progress that may soon dissipate. This means we should imbibe the culture of learning and education. At same time, we should surrender to the fact that as a group, we have problem. We need help. "Accurate diagnosis", as they say, "is half the cure". I believe it is part of our moral obligation as blacks to discuss and diagnose the so-called blacks' curse and attempt to solve it or invite others to fix us.

Science/Technology / Re: Black Holes Are 'portals To Other universes,' According To New Quantum results by wisemen045(m): 5:29pm On Jul 13, 2014
Disclaimer: I am not an astrophysicist or the likes. Just a person that watches discovery science once in a while.

@OP black holes may be portals to other universes if you look at it from two angles. One, the fact that black holes are not really holes and two, the fact that black holes holes have a limit to the amount of matter it can absorb. According to a show I watched recently on discovery science, a block hole acts like a Pulsar once it has reached maximum capacity and shoots out huge jets of materials (matter, energy etc) up and down its poles. The matter ejected then forms the building blocks of other galaxies/universes. Just picture a black hole with a galaxy at its top and bottom. So there is a white hole (burst of matter energy creating new universes) at the opposite end of every black hole. This may also help to explain what was before the big bang since energy can neither be created or destroyed. Just in this order:

A super star dies - a black hole - singularity - big bang (white hole) - a new universe.

N.B The show was titled ''how the universe was made''.

Efemena_xy:

Chief Adedayo could not believe his eyes. Everything around him suddenly seemed to play out in slow motion. Very slowly, as though in a trance-like state, he gradually dropped to his knees, kneeling beside the charred, motionless remains of his daughter. A scream had formed in the pit of his stomach, risen to his throat but not a sound escaped from his open mouth. There was a dull but steady throbbing in his head which seemed to get louder. Somewhere in his dazed mind, he realised the dull throbbing was infact the pounding of people's feet as his neighbours raced towards him in alarm. There was chaos everywhere.

Suddenly as though from a distance, he heard an eerie scream pierce through the still night. He realised the unearthly scream was from him. His neighbours had by now reached him and were holding him, pulling him back from the scene as he thrashed around uncontrollably in the midst of the commotion. "Otio O!" he yelled beating his chest "Shade!" he called over and over again as tears streamed down his face.

Mrs Adedayo had by now also arrived, took one look at the scene playing before her very eyes and collapsed in a heap on the ground.

"Water!" a neighbour shouted. "Make una bring water come now!"

"Jesu!!" another cried out in fright, making the sign of the cross. "Abeg make una call ambulance come o!"

"Where you for see ambulance? Ambulance ko! Ambulance ni!!" another countered. "Na Okada pessin go take enter reach hospital quick-quick..."

Meanwhile, Lola who had given up knocking on the front door had turned back to go home when she heard the explosion, and had been thrown back against a wall. Mustering her strength about her, she followed the crowd to the back of the Adedosun's house - to where the noise appeared to have come from. Pushing through the crowd of people standing nearby, the acrid stench of burning flesh and fuel suddenly hit her and it was was all she could stomach - when she stumbled upon Mr Adedosun clutching tightly to the seemingly charred remains of an unrecognisable body...no, wait - this wasn't just an unknown body...it was.. Shade's? Shade's??!!

Suddenly the world seemed to swim around her as she felt herself collapsing to the ground in shock...

"There, there, I've got you" She heard faintly as a pair of strong masculine hands caught her from behind, preventing her from hitting the ground as she passed out...

By now a lady had reached the scene, quickly assessed the situation and knelt by the still, seemingly lifeless body. Holding Shade's limp wrist between her thumb and forefinger, she felt for a pulse. It was very weak but there nonetheless. "This girl needs to be taken to the hospital immediately" she said in a loud authoritative voice, as she placed her in the recovery position.

"Mr Adedayo, your daughter isn't dead" she said in a professional voice. "She however has suffered first degree burns and needs to be attended to immediately. I have some IV fluids at home which I'll set up for her, whilst transportation is arranged for to take her to the hospital" she continued. Mrs Adeosun (Mama Bisi), had just returned from her night shift as a nurse at the nearby General Hospital. Lucky she was on hand to help she thought to herself, as she quickly gave instructions over her mobile phone to Bisi to bring her First Aid Kit over...

*********************************************************************************************************

Amaka was close to tears but decided not to jump to any conclusions before speaking properly with Uche. What on earth was he playing at? She asked herself? Could her day get any worse than it already had?

"No, I must compose myself and not let that statement throw me", she said sternly to herself as she placed his dinner on the beautifully designed enamel tray they had received as a wedding present. "For goodness sake girl, pull yourself together!" She chided herself. Taking a deep breath to relax her jumpy nerves, Amaka walked determinedly out of the kitchen with Uche's dinner towards the dining room.

"Baby your dinner is served" she called out to him, in her rich velvety voice.

"Coming" he responded as he dropped the Times newspaper he had been reading whilst waiting for his dinner. "That smells good" he said, nodding in approval at her, as he sat down at the table. Amaka smiled seductively at him as she poured out some water for him into a bowl while he washed his hands.

"Not only does this smell good, it tastes absolutely delicious" he commended her as he swallowed the first morsel. "Baby, I don't know how you do it but your cooking is something I most definitely can not live without. I swear you must have taken cooking lessons in heaven." he continued. Not only was her cooking hard to rival, he decided she looked amazingly sexy today.

"Uh...huh" Amaka responded, hands clasped underneath her chin as she watched her husband tuck into his meal. "Thanks for the compliment" she replied. Now what was it they say about men? No Nigerian men? The quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach, she recalled, smiling sexily at him from underneath her long lashes...

…..seduction night is on course she told herself. ‘’So baby, how was your day?’’ Amaka inquired again from Uche who was half way through swallowing a morsel of ‘’akpu’’ covered in ‘’ofe Onugbu’’. ‘’Great’’, Uche responded. ‘’Hmmm. Baby you said it was fruitful the other time I asked you and I can’t wait to hear the full gist later tonight’’ replied an elated Amaka, who simultaneously, moved closer to Uche and wiped his mouth with the napkin she had placed on the dining table earlier in the evening.

Unknown to Amaka, Uche had spoken with Dotun his childhood friend while at work and on Dotun’s insistence he had decided to be receptive to Amaka. He briefly recollected how Dotun had chided him for lack of warmth; so tonight he decided to be romantic. Just as Amaka was getting done with cleaning his mouth with the napkin, Uche held Amaka’s right hand and in a soft voice called her by her pet name. ‘’Amy love’’. ‘’I am sorry’’, was all Uche could say thereafter.

*******************************************************************************************

Lola woke up to find herself in her parent’s living room fifteen minutes later. ‘’My head hurts!’’. ‘’How did I get here?’’. ‘’Shade…. Shade; Baba Shade’s house is on fire she screamed.

@Maclatunji, Lola’s ex-boyfriend had been established as ‘’Kingsley’’ and not ‘’Uche’’. Please, modify your last sentence to ‘’....she remembered the day she met Kingsley......’’.

Kingsley had been the reason Lola dropped out of school after her OND. She almost didn’t complete the diploma programme due to the severe complications she developed during pregnancy. ‘’It was all worth it’’ she told herself as she remembered the first time she saw Sandra in the incubator. ‘’It was all worth it’’ she said again. Sandra was a carbon copy of Kingsley and would have passed as his clone if not that Sandra was a girl. ‘’Oh Kingsley’’ she muttered as she recalled how Kingsley’s deft hands had sent sensual shivers down her spine the first night of their tryst at Kingsley’s single room apartment ‘’off K’’ as off campus students’ accommodations were known. It turned out to be a long night for Lola; the night she lost her virtue. And now, jobless with just the OND to hold on to as her ticket to a better tomorrow, she wondered if she hadn’t lost it all.
**************************************************************************

It was 10 PM and the Adedayos , who normally were late sleepers, were getting ready to go to bed. ‘’Shade, Shade, Shade’’, Chief Adedayo bellowed from the bedroom. ‘’Petrol doesn’t fall from heaven ooooo; put off that ‘’gen’’ now’’ Chief Adedayo said to a surprised Shade who was unaccustomed to her father demanding that the ‘’I better pass my neighbour’’ generator be put off at that early hour.

She had decided against trying her luck with the Adeosuns because she really hated Mr. Adeosun with his ogling eyes which she knew always stripped her unclad whenever he saw her. Yet, the sense of expectation from her interview that now occupied her mind would not let her wait for the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to restore electricity to her area by midnight as they usually did. Hence, she decided to cross the street and charge her phone at the Adedayos' residence. The Adedayos were a close-knit family comprising of Chief Adedayo who was the head of the Amuludun Community Development Association (CDA). Amuludun was the outskirt of Lagos where Lola and her parents lived. Mrs. Adedayo was a popular grocery seller at Ojuwoye market and was a force to be reckoned with within the community especially when political issues were up for consideration. The couple had a daughter, Shade who was a year older than Lola, they had both attended Amuludun Secondary School together and graduated from the same class five years ago. However, the duo had drifted apart based on their different outlooks to life; Shade was a classic city girl who had little or no reservations when it came to men, drugs and alcohol whilst Lola had always been a model young women in terms of character except for her 10-minutes of indiscretion which now traumatized her like a terminal disease wherever she went. Efemena_xy: @Wisemen045 thanks for your contribution. A couple of comments if you don't mind:

1. Although the general consensus here is to ensure the storyline flows seamlessly, there still needs to be a distinction between each writer's contribution. I see that you've inserted your write-up within my quotation. Pls amend this as each of us have our own individual / unique style of writing and these should be reflected and appreciated accordingly. This may have been an unintended mistake on your part and all you need to do is simply place your writeup after the closing [i][/i] tag.

2. The story is completely fictitious so there was no need to include my name (Efemena) in there as the doctor. Would appreciate it if you could pls amend this accordingly.

3. If you look closely at my last post concerning the character Lola, she was determined not to go over to the Adeosun's for reasons stated earlier.

Thanks & I hope you view this in the spirit it's intended...

@Efemena. Please pardon me. No offence meant. Felt I should catch some fun along the way. The change has been made and the post modified accordingly. The character has been renamed Dr. Eno.

Really do appreciate your kind understanding. You may not know this but this thread is helping some people to overcome the fear of writing. Please, keep the advice coming. Let people post while the very good ones on the thread suggest the necessary amendments to their posts. We can make it fun. I do appreciate your civility. Hoping to read your next post (s).

Efemena_xy: Amaka seethed inwardly with resentment at her husband's display of aggression towards her. After the day she had had at work - being subjected to an unprovoked attack from a parent - she really could do with a little bit more civility from him.

She and Uche were approaching their third wedding anniversary and compared to many of their friends and acquaintances, they were by far much more well-to-do financially. The only speck of imperfection in their otherwise perfect marriage was the absence of any children to bless the union. Oh how she longed to fill her home with the patter of tiny feet! Although Uche had been very understanding and supportive of their plight initially, she could sense that the constant pressure from extended family members was wearing him down and as the years rolled by, he became less understanding and more uptight with her. She always noticed, with a sharp searing pain through her heart - how gently, how patiently he interacted with his young nieces and nephews whenever they came visiting.

That was why taking up the job of nursery assistant at Ms Olatunji's posh Little Angels Nursery School had seemed like a welcome diversion from her predicament. Not that she needed the money at all, but it was something to pre-occupy her mind with, a reason to get up in the mornings and hopefully, an opportunity to gain some experience in child-minding pending when she eventually, hopefully had her own baby.

......……..A baby that may be coming soon she muttered as she collected herself from the sofa and made towards the kitchen; it was Friday night and Amaka had made thick ‘akpu’ with ‘ofe onugbu’ for Uche in the hope that she could placate Uche who since their major fight in March had withdrawn from Amaka. A little smile crossed her face as she dwelt on the possibility of being intimate with Uche. She had her hopes high and the timing was perfect. She just ovulated and being guided by the words of Dr. Eno she knew that the chance of getting pregnant was great. Amaka placed Uche’s dinner in the microwave and set the timer for two minutes.

Lola, still very anxious about her performance in the interview, took a deep breath, weighed the options in her mind and realising that she had no better choice stood up, paced round the living room and concluded that she should try the Adedayo's, the Adedayo's over the years had gathered a reputation for being unfriendly. ‘’Knock, knock, knock’’, who is there; came the soft feminine voice from the Adedayo's living room. Emi ni mummy; Lola chorused. Emm, Mummy. Ehn, ehn I want to charge my phone Ma.

Happy birthday Nairaland.

I belong to class of 2007. Funny, I have just 21 posts to show for it. I have logged in with my user Id less than that but no day went by without me browsing nairaland. Nairaland is my addiction. It is my insomnia. I could stay the whole night moving from one board to the other. Nairaland rocks!

Nairaland mirrors what the Nigerian nation is all about. Diversity abound here on Nairaland. Diversity in the members and their posts. The tribal fighters, the sport pundits, the religious, the comedians, the politicians. Everybody is on nairaland. And that is why I keep coming back. The reason I sneak some brief minutes at work to check in and feel the pulse of Nigerians on issues. I tell you, nairaland is my comic relief always. And in a rather queer way, it is so surprising the amount of good and useful information that is shared on this forum.

I will always be proud of nairaland. Nairaland reminds me that I am a Nigerian.

So, Seun know today that you are our Mark Zuckerburg. You are our own facebook. Stay focused. Get your acts together the more and come up with a winning strategy. You have revolutionised ''foruming'' in Nigeria. Keep it up. Continue to do us proud. Thank you for giving us Nairaland.

@Maclatunji

Quite sorry. I wrote it at my spare time based on your earlier submission where the headteacher had Lola discharged from her office. Sincerely, I didn't realise yourself and Efemena had added two more posts. You guys are quite prolific.

Do accept my apology. And, my submission wasn't completely off. Read it well please. It can be merged with your post and that of Efemena. The story line is still intact.

I believe all contributors come here to sharpen their writting skills; your stern rebuttals and retorts have the capacity to discourage contributions. Not everybody writes as well as you do; let people make mistakes and learn from them. Do be more flexible. This is a forum my brother ooo.

My two kobos all through.

Thank you.
