Celebrity Donations to Houston: What Nigerian Celebrities Can't Do To Help Their Dying Fans

The disastrous Hurricane Harvey has crushed the Gulf Coast, claiming lives and flooding huge parts of Texas urban communities like Houston. What's more, now, individuals everywhere throughout the world are venturing up to help the casualties of the gigantic tempest.

Various celebrities are going to the guide of casualties in Houston, Texas, who have encountered annihilation after Hurricane Harvey.

As per The New York Times, no less than 13 people have died with Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas calling the tempest "one of the largest disasters America has ever faced." Thousands have been set in covers as alleviation and help endeavors continue. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo shared that he's "really worried about how many bodies we’re going to find."

As relief efforts continue, celebrities like Beyoncé and Kevin Hart have vowed to assist the Texas city and more joining their campaign, sending messages and gifts.

Atleast, 30+ celebs has demonstrated enthusiasm to help with The Kardashian Family drawing out an entire $500, 000, Chris Brown $100, 000, Nicki Minaj, Drake, DJ Khaled, T.I, Dwayne Johnson "The Rock" with $25, 000 each thus numerous huge names. Kevin Hart's campaign donation is near $1M now while J.J. Watt's is presently $3M.

These big names are doing this since they realize that those individuals associated with the catastrophe are their fans. Fans that get things going for them at whatever point anything that worries them is being done. It doesn't generally make a difference who's fan it is or who got harmed, what is important is that they adore and esteem everybody as they do to themselves.

In any case, coming to Nigeria, it is all different. Nigerian celebrities "barely" open their eyes to see what their fans are going through, not understanding the fact that these individuals that are confronting this present issue are the general population that pay to watch them perform. Fans that will argue A-Z about Wizkid superior to Davido and Davido superior to Wizkid, fans that lighten up their social media pages with cherishing posts and make them enthusiastic. Indeed, fans they can't do without.

I could at present recall when that enormous flood came in 2012 in Nigeria, what people passed through yet at the same time just help from The Government was what they could get. Nigerian big names care-less with regards to the torments of their fans and all they can do is to snap out the world simply to refresh their grams with heaps of money to display. And they will say they're showing off to motivate their fans. To steal, right?

In any case, I would like to see them learn now and begin doing something significant at whatever point their fans require their open help on squeezing issues.

Education / Nigerians And The Wrong Use Of "Well Done" Greeting by WizPrince1(m): 6:30pm On Jul 17, 2017

As a Nigerian, I understand some laughable things we’re good at doing, things such as the “Well done” English greeting format that is widely used these days in the country. The fact is that Nigerian English has an entire form of what I call formulaic expressions of greetings that would strike most local English speakers as inquisitive and incomprehensive at the very least.

While some of these expressions are imaginative coinages or semantic expansions in light of the social uniqueness of Nigerian cultural articulations which the English language hasn’t lexicalized, others are the results of an inadequate nature with the traditions and phrases of the English dialect.

Over time, the expression “Well done” has turned into an official greeting format in Nigeria. Whereas, it’s supposed to be used as a form of congratulation. Greeting in Nigeria nowadays is ending up plainly somehow ill bred. Normally, “Well done!” is saved particularly for a man who is working or accomplishing something advantageous. It is a case of apportionment (or phonetic “seizing”) of current English lexies to offer articulation to an unconventional Nigerian socio-etymological propensity.

The way “well done” is used as a part of Nigerian English approximates such expressions as “s annu da aiki “ in Hausa, “ eku ise “ in Yoruba, “ daalu olu “ in Igbo, “Diwo” in Isoko (my local dialect), and so on., which have no parallels in local assortments of the English dialect. That is the reason there is typically a correspondence breakdown when Nigerians use the expression “well done” in local spoken English situations. The typical counter among local speakers is, “Well done for what?” Or “what have I done well?”

As I’ve read many times, in local assortments of English, “well done” either works as an adjective to portray thoroughly cooked food or meat (Example: That bit of meat is intense because it is not well done) or as an exclamation of adulation—synonymous with “bravo.” It is additionally used as an adjective to depict something that has been done well (e.g. “Thank you for a job well done” ). It is never used as an extraordinary type of welcome for individuals.

People in the US and UK who are faintly acquainted with Nigerian English do inquire as to why Nigerians have an exceptional type of greeting to recognise individuals who are accomplishing something. The truth of the matter is that people feel it is practically equivalent to the welcome held for unique circumstances of the day in the English dialect.

We say “good morning” when we meet people in the early hours of the day and say “good evening” when we meet them amid the midpoint of the day, and so forth. There may truly be nothing “good” about the time we greet them. Hell, we even say “good morning” or “good evening” or “good day,” and so on to people on their debilitated beds! Nigerians use and see “well done” in the same socio-etymological setting. The people we say “well done” to in Nigerian English don’t need to be doing anything well; they just need to be there.

This expression has truly turned into a piece of most Nigerians since you’ll hardly observe individuals greet nowadays without using the “Well done” format. In any case, some educated people do take this type of greeting as disrespect because it sounds as if the person you’re greeting is too small to get a “Good day” greeting. That’s how most people take it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS “WELL DONE” GREETING NIGERIANS DO USE? SHARE WITH ME AND OTHER READERS FOR WE ALL TO LEARN!

There's no way you'll tell an Hausa man to leave your community or state that he'll regret or lament. They'll even sort out transports that will take them out together. This is done because they 'barely' have investments there and as such, there's nothing to lose, also to maintain peace. Why can't Ibos be like them? They can't because they've spent all their lives there and massive investments in their names. The Ibos always fail to invest more in their lands.

In life, if you fail to look into your community when you're capable because it's 'local', when trouble comes you'll find it hard to go to that community. The Ibos have diverse investments all over the world yet their towns and cities are lacking a lot. It's this same people that will be complaining that their Governors are the ones making their states underdeveloped but what makes you think they'll not be like you?

You want to have your own country but you still want to be in another man's land to invest, who will now come and develop your land for you? What are your Governors even saying about this? You think they don't have sense?

Music/Radio / 10 Ways Nigerian Music Industry Can Be Improved - Primetweets by WizPrince1(m): 7:26am On Jan 21, 2017

The Nigerian music industry is known to be the most productive music industry in Africa due to the level of hit songs their Artistes produce. Artistes like, 2Face, PSquare, D’Banj, Wizkid, Davido, Tekno e.t.c. have all made the country proud because of their international recognition and with these names, the country can’t be forgotten when it comes to music worldwide.

Nigerian singers have good talents compared to foreign artistes but due to the current kind of music performed in her music industry, one would be pushed to argue that they barely understand what good music truly is. I’ve seen people write about funny ways in which one can attain fame in the industry, advising artistes to just go into the studio and do anything (rubbish) called music of which is not supposed to be so. What defines good music is in the lyrics and most Nigerian singers are good at writing out good lyrics but for the fact that they need that fame very urgent, they’ll switch to what others are doing.

This actually is not the fault of the upcoming musicians but those famous ones that wouldn’t want to change their style of music even after fame. This is because those upcoming artistes are looking unto them. People say they like Asa, why? Her kind of music is interesting to listen to. I won’t call names of hit songs that is making Nigerian music look local but all these need to stop. For how long are we going to be hearing about bum bum? For how long will famous artistes not write songs that will change people’s mindset for good? The other day, I asked someone why foreign songs can’t be forgotten easily and why Nigerian hit songs usually fade off within a short period after hit, he was just mute and couldn’t reply because it all goes back to the lyrics – how interesting it is.

Nigerian songs are highly criticized even though they are hits because they are not up to standard (that’s what most people believe). Often times, people will say it’s their way but don’t forget that it is due to the kind of music they do that makes people refer to them as worldly. As a fan of Nigerian music, I strongly believe that Nigerians have talent in singing and they are just following up what will make them achieve fame. In my little research, I’ve been able come up with a solution and below are ten ways I think Nigerian music industry can be improved if musicians can do this.

10 Ways Nigerian Music Industry Can Be Improved

1. Capture Inspiration Before Going To The Studio
A good singer is one who is led with inspiration. Therefore, if you want to do quality songs, always make sure you’re inspired by something and not just going to the studio to record.

2. Learn to Write Songs
One way to identify great songs is in their lyrics, that’s why it’s always important for artistes to write songs with well-arranged chorus and mind-blowing verses so that your audience can tell its meaning. You write songs to remember the lines.

3. Follow What’s Ideal – Be Original
Don’t follow what people did to achieve fame, follow what you think will make people talk about you. Always be original in lyrics and come up with a new style.

4. Listen to Songs from Foreign Artistes

Yes! You have good talent, but take time to listen to songs from foreign artistes, they have better songs – there’s a way their songs are arranged and you have a lot to learn from them.

5. Try Not to Think of the Money/Fame
One major thing that is killing Nigerian artistes’ is the idea of recording songs just because of fame and money. Music is not done like that. Some of these top songs you hear were done as freestyles that turn out to be hits. It’s the songs you won’t expect to gain audience attention that always come out successful even with little or no promotion.

6. Do Music with Passion and Love for It
Have it in your mind that the best way to gain success in anything you are doing is to build love for it. When you have passion for music, you’ll always be inspired to do something about it. Therefore, if you are doing music as a career, make sure you have love for it, else, quit for something you love doing most.

7. Pass a Good Message With your Lyrics

So many people shout when they hear punch lines – but are these punch lines telling any good meaning in real sense? One good way to capture the audience with your song is to pass a message they are familiar with; a message that needs public attention/awareness – a song they’ll always remember to listen so as to be inspired.

8. Learn to Train your Voice
This is one thing artistes should rely on if they truly love music as a career. These days, it’s hard to see upcoming artistes training their voices so as to get a perfect tune for their lyrics. Instead of them to do so, they’d rather get high on drugs – thinking it’s the best way to be inspired. After recording that drug influenced song with excessive shouting inside, you expect marketers to take you serious?

9. Learn to Appreciate People/Fans
The same industry you are in, there are people whom you need to give respect. I’m not only talking about the top artistes, but the promoters, marketers, producers and fans of your music. These people are the people that matters most in your career, therefore, always show little appreciation to them.

10. Promote your Song to the Public
Lastly, once you are done with these nine steps, it’s time to promote your music to the public for them to listen to what you’ve done and I assure you of success if you truly do as I said. Once one of your songs is liked by someone, he’ll always anticipate for your other works and once it’s like this, then know that such persons can introduce your music to their friends and loved ones because they find it interesting.

These 10 methods are some of the ways I think the Nigerian Music Industry can be improved. If artistes can adhere to this, changes will be observed. Note that it’s due to the way Nigerian songs are that makes some artistes to fade easily with their songs. If they can learn to write quality songs, they’ll always be remembered.

The secret of joy in work is contained in one word – excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it. Let’s make our music up to standard if we truly love the career.

Politics / How Hunger Can Be Fought And Defeated In Nigeria by WizPrince1(m): 10:10am On Jul 15, 2016
The word, ‘hunger’ is simply defined as strong need or desire for food. The context of this article however, is not actually talking about how to eat when you’re hungry or what to eat if hungry, but rather, it’s talking about how to use your God-given Skill(s) to continuously put food on your table and that of your family as an average Nigerian youth.

Today, so many Nigerians live in abject poverty; a life of anguish and distress. This is common because most individuals haven’t discovered their talents. To me, talent is a natural ability/skill, it is something that an individual knows how to do best and if consistency is added to it, such person can use it to make a living.

Everybody has his/her talent but the problem is how to discover it, but I think it shouldn’t be a problem for you reading this. Skill is something you acquire and learning how to do things is one of the ways of discovering your talent. If you’re an average Nigerian, you must be ready to learn for you to be successful. Those rich people you’re hearing of today didn’t make easily as you’re thinking, they passed through struggles like you before discovering what they can do best; even those politicians, that’s what they’re good at. I’m not talking about going to school before you can be acquainted, there are many skill acquisition centres where you can learn something and be perfected in it. It’s your interest and how fast/good you are doing that gives you the impression of you discovering your talent.

Now, let’s take it that you’ve successfully discovered a skill following the above explanation. It’s time you start monetizing the skill so you can use it to sustain life. Nigeria is a country that almost all the youths of nowadays are looking for quick money without much struggles, that’s why some invest their little pocket money on sport bets and other corrupt engagements but it’s not suppose to be so. Any man who desires to live a life that his generation will be proud of tomorrow will take his time to work for it despite the struggles involved. I believe that’s what The Dangotes and others are enjoying today!

Youths should stop putting blames on Government and start doing something meaningful. The Government didn’t tell you to be outrageous, neither did they tell you to be involved in corrupt practices. If as a youth you can spot out the difference between good and bad, life will be fair for you soon. There are so many ways to sell your talent to people. When you’ve discovered it, think of how you can earn a living with it.

There are hundreds of theories on how we can end hunger and activists debate many of them. Some have been effective and others haven’t. One thing is certain, and that is we must do something – and this is what I think should be done. I believe hunger can fought and changes will be made annually in the economy of Nigeria and in our lives as youths.

Don’t go stealing, don’t defraud people and you don’t have to trick people just to get your daily bread. Just believe in your creativity and strive to make it work for people to utilize. My advice for you is that you forget about Nigeria’s dwindling economy and think like someone who has goals to achieve. Every individual has potentials to excel, you just need to discover them. Nigeria’s economy shouldn’t stop you as a Nigerian youth. Think of something creative, work on it, and succeed!

As a patriotic Nigerian youth, I think Hunger can be Defeated if this is done!

Nairaland / General / If You Aren't Born With A “silver-spoon”, Carve One For Yourself by WizPrince1(m): 8:48am On May 07, 2016
Sometime ago, a brother told me that “if you're not born with a silver-spoon, you'll learn to carve one for yourself”. Ever since, I've been striving to make sure that I attain this dream. I'd make sure that whatsoever task I'm been given or I'm doing must be straightforward and well done. Since then, I've tried my possible best to make a difference and it's working fine for me and I know that one day the dream will be fully achieved because it's not really cool when you see the rich kids do things you've never dreamt of doing or going places you've never thought of going. This inspiration made me write a piece about carving a silver-spoon for yourself.

“Silver-spoon” is an English expression (adjective) that is synonymous with wealth, which specially deals with inherited wealth; that is, someone born into a wealthy family is said to have “been born with a silver spoon in his mouth”. Silver-spoon is just the difference between the rich and the poor.

Being rich is one of the things everyone wants to possess, no one wants to be poor. Today, so many people think success comes by luck, yes, it's true, it comes by luck but it takes hardwork and dedication to make it.

Sometimes it pains when you see your mates living a more comfortable life while you're not. It's also painful when you see the rich do expensive things you've never dreamt of doing in your life. Though it pains, but the good thing there is that you actually learnt something, which is success and note now that the key to it is 'little' hardwork. I can imagine that moment that you'd be thinking of doing something that will also make a change in your life.

People that are given birth to with “silver-spoons” inherited their wealth from their parents due to the fact that their parents struggled so as to make a difference in their family and to make their unborn children proud. This is the reason why you should create a platform to make a difference in yourself and children unborn also.

This modern life you see, education is actually the key. You can't be rich overnight without having the commonsense of creating a platform of riches. Stop that childish thoughts/talks of you saying people that are rich and famous didn't go to school e.g, “that guy is the richest in Africa, he didn't go to school”, “that lady is the wealthiest among them but she didn't even go to school”. Going to school is actually important because you need some knowledge about life and where to start from and also that certificate. I'm not saying you should go to school with the mindset of working in a top company, but go to school with the mindset of building a platform that will take care of your needs so that even when there is no job opportunity, you can still be living a happy and meaningful life.

It's not about going to school also that determines your success in life though, you just need to have a “good brain” that thinks fast and far, a restless body that is ready to work and finish tasks. This is the reason why that person you referred to as someone who didn't go to school that is rich has and this is the key. These are the things you need and if they're in place, then you're a step away from carving that silver-spoon for yourself.

If you really want to make a difference in your life and family, start building that commonsense of greatness. Strive to make sure that your goals are achieved so that your children tomorrow will taste that spoon in their mouth.

My Life, My World and My Future is in my hands and so is yours; working hard today places your family tomorrow at the top. Don't relent but don't do scams!
Do it, Make it!

My Life, My World and My Future is in my hands and so is yours; working hard today places your family tomorrow at the top. Don't relent but don't do scams!
Do it, Make it!

Jide Ogunsanya is the owner of Ogbongeblog.com, a graduate of Microbiology from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, Nigeria, who created a very educating Nigerian tutorial online platform where people can find the most basic tutorials online. During his NYSC, he enrolled in a 6 months weekend course in Java Programming at NIIT, Onitsha and he was able to master some computer skills which have been so helpful to him till this very moment.  Jide Ogunsanya is well respected among his fellow bloggers in Nigeria, and this creates a lot of speaking gigs for the brilliant entrepreneur.

Ogbongeblog is known for its helpful tutorials on how newbies can start their online businesses and make money. On his blog, Jide offers blogging tips, online business ideas, technology tips, and lots more. He makes money online from his blog in different ways. He makes upto $622 (N97,000) in 15 Days From Google Adsense just for you to know that making money from blogging is real.

The blog won the “Best Science and Tech Blog” in 2011 Nigerian Blog Awards. In 2012 Nigerian Blog Awards, the blog emerged as the “Best Tutorials Blog” (Judge's choice). In 2013, the blog emerged as the winner of the "Best Online Media On Technology" in 2013 OYAA Awards. The blog couldn't make the final nomination list of 2013 Nigerian Blog Awards because of what happened to the blog in October, 2013.

The blog has thousands of subscribers as seen in the Feedburner counter on the post pages. You can check out the traffic stats at Alexa to confirm that it is truly one of the best Nigerian blogs.

He started the blog in 2008 to share his knowledge online especially as regards to solving tech-related issues and also to make legal money online. The moment he started making money from the blog, he started sharing with the ideas with his blog readers, how they can also make money from the internet especially via blogging.

By the end of his service year in 2009, he was proud of the blog to the extent that he was reluctant in applying for jobs. Then, he even decided that if jobs come his way, he will not settle for crazy job offers.

He has inspired alot of people to get involved in blogging, even me, and the success stories he received from a lot of them kept encouraging him to do more with his blog.

Today is the wedding of this young Nigerian entrepreneur and I can't help but say a “Happy Married Life” to him.
My prayer for him is that; as he's getting married today, may things continue being soft and easy as it use to in his life and may he produce good and excellent Children just like him but bigger than him. Amen!

Complaining doesn't help. You've been doing that since God-knows-when. If hardship persists in 2019, use your PVC!

Is that how we'll be voting people? When will the true CHANGE come?

Politics / Re: Confusion In APC As Party Suspends Timipre Sylva, Asks Lokpobiri To Resign by WizPrince1(m): 6:25pm On Apr 03, 2016
I never voted for APC in all aspects because i knew it's a party of some corrupt men coming from PDP and others to join in one just to remove GEJ from postion in the Presidency only. If I'm lying, why are APC top men not interrested in State elections? Imagine the way they actually fought it hard just to remove Jonathan. I voted PDP because the devil you know is better than the angel you barely know. Some APC members are now regretting. Nigerian Politics is in Chaos.

From Left; Ex-Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Ex-Governor James Ibori and Current Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

This picture was taken when James Ibori was the Governor of the State. What's your say about this?

ISIS' hacking division has released a video challenging the founders of Facebook and Twitter, Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey for closing down accounts linked with the terrorist organisation, and promising to kill them if they continue.

The Sons Caliphate Army, ISIS' hacking division titled the video released on Tuesday "Flames of the Supporters", and in the video both C.E.O's face were riddled with bullets.

Earlier this month, Twitter revealed that it had shut down 125,000 accounts while in the last six months Facebook has shut down over 10,000 accounts linked to the terrorist organisation, in their efforts to curb terrorism and spread of information from ISIS terrorists.

At the end of the video, the video text says, "To Mark and Jack, founders of Twitter and Facebook, and to their Crusader government. "You announce daily that you suspended many of our accounts "And to you we say: Is that all you can do?" ''you are not in our league'' "If you close one account we will take 10 in return and soon your names will be erased after we delete you [sic] sites, Allah willing, and will know that we say is true".

Music/Radio / Official Voice Of Naija Theme Song Featuring Zeuz, Rapkid And Amazing by WizPrince1(m): 7:10pm On Jan 27, 2016

Life is not just about the voice you make, what matters is if it is been heard by the masses. The strives and struggles of people in Nigeria has become a day-to-day activity and there haven't been any sign of end to it. Each day, so many Nigerians suffer and struggle just to get their daily bread, and upon all this, no one wants to help.

Yes! People are talented, and has given all their best to what they can offer, but their voices are not heard in the sense that fellow 'opportune' Nigerians don't give ear (attention) to people with talents for sponsorship and promotion.

Another aspect is that of the government and the masses. The government has continuously refused to listen to what its citizens are saying and has also refused to do things the way they ought to be done for the betterment of every citizen in the country. It's covered with corruption.

These among others is what made us to create this platform known as "The Voice of Naija", an online website which can be assessed with either  www.voice.ng OR www.voiceofnaija.net  where Nigerian citizens can share in there voices and tweets for admin to publicise as an article and forwarded to the public and government for their views.

At Voice.ng, we want to create a nation that people's voices can be heard and one where understanding would be the norm too. We speak not for ourselves but for those without voice, those who have fought for their rights; their right to live in peace, their right to be treated with dignity, their right to equality of opportunity and their right to be educated.

This is the official theme song for "Voice Of Naija", it explains the struggles and things Nigerians are facing that needs a hearing audience. It features Zeuz, RapKid and female rapper, Amazing. It's a 'must' listen song that you can't afford to miss. Download it and Enjoy. Voice.ng has come to stay and people's voices will soon be heard.
