nihilistjnr: Brah, this downtrend has been happening since at least late last year, and I'm saying this as someone who was juggling 3 contracts in December, and 2 until literally the end of June.
This article was from January this year. The screenshot below was from 2 weeks ago.
What I'm saying is that the economy is tanking and organisations are cutting costs like crazy.
Like you said sha, let's see what happens after Summer. See you I can't say I didnt do it too. But, when it started affecting my health I had to drop off. I understand what you meant with the economy tanking. We will be fine! |

Goke7: But lots of contractors are now ending up in perm roles these days, very experienced folks showing the reality of the times we are in. Yeah that's correct but they can be laid off as well anytime. If by miracle, they abolish IR35, contractor market will start booming. People can't be bothered to look for contract roles anymore. You see, most big orgs prefer contractors to perm cos they are not part of their headcount. Their contracts can also be terminated within a month without going through the arduous process of redundancy, no need to pay them salaries, benefits, employers tax and pension, they don't call in sick, and the cost to hire a contractor is determined from the outset. |

Goke7: Contract jobs are becoming a risk now, had a friend who went out of contract and had to resort to doing care support job for now to fend for his family. An AML expert o. Seriously, there's nothing like permanent roles. I was in a contract for over 3 years and they did reorg 3x during the same period. All the permies were always scared of losing their jobs cos they have been in the org for eons, they don't even have any CVs talkless of knowing how to apply for a role. With my Contractor mentality, everyday is my last day. I make conscious effort to look at job boards everyday. You might as well make your money in bulk than getting it piecemeal. nihilistjnr: I think it's more luck than anything else. SC cleared jobs are not representative of the general job market so I wouldnt extrapolate anything from that.
In the same May, I got a 6 month extension on an outside contract, but by June it was canned and the whole PMO team disbanded because Revenue was trending downwards significantly. I didnt even know how to feel as I was the one that drove the implementation of the financial MI reporting strategy.
You might not see it now because you're in contract, but trust me...you WILL. And a lot sooner than you might think, Trust me, I follow job trends like crazy. It's very risky for a contractor not to. Let's see what happen after summer when all the budget holders are back from holidays. |

nihilistjnr: That was last year brah. I'm currently on a fully remote contract working 4 days a week when the job listing stated hybrid working, 2 days in the office, 5 days a week,
I was lucky to get this contract before the latest down turn, and was juggling it with some other engagements.
Try doing it now. I started this one in May and it was advertised as hybrid. The last time I was in the office was when I went to collect the laptop. My good mate got three at the same time just 2 weeks ago; one outside and two inside(both SC) all remote. I believe it depends on your field and your negotiating prowess. |

nihilistjnr: Have you looked at a job board recently? There are almost no fully remote roles again. Everything is hybrid now, and the rates are the most depressed i've seen in years...including during the pandemic The era of multiple contracts is fast coming to a very abrupt end. You negotiate! Everything on jobsites are wishlists. I took a contract last year and they wanted me in twice a week, I said mbah and I was ready to walk. We sha agreed once a month. |

XAUBulls: @wonlasewonimi,
I have a contrarian view here. There's nothing wrong in a President Tinubu bringing everybody onboard [including those who fought an unjust system back in the day that has now led to the destruction of the Niger Delta environment and the economic emasculation of the local people by the oil majors].
Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki, Walter Sisulu, and the rest of the ANC, etc, were all militant freedom fighters against the insidious political system called apartheid and got hounded. Mandela came out of prison and became the first post-apartheid South African President back in the early 1990s.
The great Ogoni activists Ken Saro-Wiwa, Ledum Mitee, right to up to the rise of the Ijaw, Bonny-born Asari Dokubo, and more, all became militant because of the environmental destruction of the Niger Delta lands and waters by the oil majors since the days of brutal military rule that some of us witnessed.
Besides, former President Yar' Adua gave amnesty to all the Niger Delta militants in order to bring peace, so NO need to demonize Asari Dokubo here. If he commits a serious crime from here on out, then he or anyone would have to face justice in the court of law. What right has he got to carry assault weapons and even show them off online? is that criminal enough for you? |

Ohislee: Do you need to format your computer or phone for new informations to come in??
Mind you whatever the function of BVAS is on election day can also be done with a phone application.
If you want to support nonsense, please support it intelligently. Even if they have to format the devices, common sense dictates that they backup information on such devices for legal reasons. That is why most org have 6 years retention period before such info is statute barred. Oh I forgot, there's a new criminal head of state. AWS also provide services like S3 buckets to securely store this kind of data. |
