I know a guy in Lagos that repairs Honda transmission , don't know if he does Toyota though. In as much as the gear is still moving and not completely burnt. As in reverse works and the car moves but stops when transmission gets hot, this guy will fix it.

I had same experience as urs with Acura TL, just about 2 months after u bought it. Was on way to abeokuta and started seeing smoke come out from the drives front tire, I was on high speed and because my stereo was in high volume I didn't see that car was revving more than it should. I checked tac and it was on 5,000 rpm, yeepa. I parked beside the road, opened bonnet see smoke. Atf has splashed everywhere. Called a mechanic and after 2 hours he came , by then tranny had cooled down. Then we discovered the atf got bolied and squurtted out of the breathing pipe. We checked stf level and it was not too low so we drive the car like that into sbeokyta, car shifted fine. At abeokuta I bought 1 quart of ATF dw1 and topped it. That night I drove back to Lagos, no problem. On getting to Lagos I discovered the atf was smelling, not a burnt smell but one rotten odor like that. So I did a 3x3 flush of the atf with recommended oil.

Car worked fine for like 3 weeks and then it started the big wahala. I was traveling and still within Lagos the car would stop moving on it's own. But if I turn off engine and restart it will be fine, get into traffic and it would stop moving, the thing was repeating and got to a stage it started jerking. Come see as cars behind me dey curse me whenever I stop in the middle of the road because car no gree move until I switch off and restart. I managed it like that back home and in my mind I was like wow this transmission is toast, by the way the D light was never blinking.

Cut long story short, it got worst but I was introduced to a guy who assured me he would fix it, I was already thinking of buying another tranny. The guy took the guy, dropped the engine and tranny and I don't know what he did to it oh, but it's been more than 6 months now and car drives perfect, shifts smoothly without any problem. And the funny thing is someone else that bought a tokunbo Acura TL had same issue as mine right from the port. I gave him the mechanics number and he fixed it and till now car works fine. So yes there are some people that fix transmission but it depends on the level of damage the transmission have.

As long as you are not driving your personal car, you are considered a driver. All they need to check is the name on the drivers license and the name on the vehicle particulars.

When I was caught, I paid a fine of 20,000 to Fidelity Bank. This was years back. That's my experience

After then, I did my first one at Oshodi(Next compound to LASTMA office). I paid 2k at the Ecobank opposite LASTMA.They even asked for tax receipt(i can't remember how I dodged that) . And I spent about 6 hours to get it. They will take you through some stupid talks about how to behave as a driver, road sign talks and all that just to justify the loot they are collecting. As at the last time I did it, it was 3k. I paid to one fat lady at the door and got my LASDRI in paper(no longer plastic)

Why I type all these is because I was once caught, and I have done it twice. I'm typing from my experience. I haven't come here to argue

Maybe I was hustled or not, but what I know is the Officer who stopped me told me that as long as the name on the vehicle particulars is not the same with the drivers license, you are considered a driver

And we both know 80% of uber cars fall into this category

You already have a drivers license issued by the federal republic of Nigeria,the highest authority,behind it it is clearly stated that you are licensed to drive a car other than a motorcycle or articulated vehicle.

LASDRI is basically meant for commercial /car hire drivers, motor cycles riders, company/corporate drivers etc.

Lets just call it what it is.
LASDRI is another avenue for the govt to fleece innocent citizens of their hard earned money so as to claim increased IGR.

LASDRI is for professional drivers. That's the purpose. And according to them, you'll be regarded a driver as long as you don't own the car(If the name on your drivers license is different from the name on the vehicle particulars)

But its funny when we go abroad we envy how their things are all computerized and organized. We will come here and say Naija is a jungle. Now the goverment of a state is trying to at least take some steps to make it better some will still say they are wasting their time. A friend of mine paid 7500 to renewed his lagos vehicle documents at JOS, while i renewed mine in Lagos at 13500, he can drive with his 7500 papers anywhere in Nigeria..

The reason is because they don't charge 5k for roadworthiness in Jos.and besides roadworthiness certificate ought to be for commercial buses and trucks only.but greed and selfishness is so prevalent in Lagos.very disgusting.you can imagine asking a brandnew car for roadworthiness certificate
By law,once a private car has vehicle liicense and insurance,its good to go.but in Lagos its a different ball game as if Lagos is different from Nigeria itself.

I have been registering my card in Abuja and the north for the past 14 years without issues. When my paperas expired for d first time in Lagos and I tried to renew that was how I knew there is limitation to how Lagos carry out their registration.I just called Abuja and had it sent to me via crosscountry.
Lagos jst dey give themselves wahala that they dnt need.have they thought of what wld happen wen they cant access the internet? Means registration wld ve on hold for that period?
I use Abuja.once I have d originals I careless about those people on d road.no vio can impound my vehicle becos he cldnt verify the authenticity. D last time one astopped me in 2012,he use that hand held device to verify my insurance only.he cldnt confirm vehicle licence.its not my bizness.he had nothing against me.I know my contact only deals original papers.i even hated it when Lagos started charging 500 for radio.the thing is Sao annoying.lagos just like to extort vehicle users for no added service.go to the north,you can never queue for driver license but in Lagos its a bizness on its own.I hate many things about Lagos even though I'm a lagosian

This is the reason I detest Lagos number.i prefer Abuja or any other northern state.so how do they intend to send bill to a number registered in ogun state?

Its really surprising to me how people envy others but don't know the price paid to achieve the enviable success..Uber drivers the world over have unions..i mean in the UK, US, France..ok make we leave developed countries find our own mate..Kenya, Uganda, South Africa..just name it...How much is the money that you will contribute to the union that wont make you eat again..yes the corruption part is true but then you hold the leaders accountable...

Uber drivers in Kenya went on strike when the fare was cut to 35 shillings per km..they called off the strike when it was increased to 42 shillings per km..Uber drivers in Mumbai went on strike and the transport minister had to intervene ..80% of their demands were met..mind you india`s case was pathetic..as is the case in Nigeria now..extremely low fares because of more drivers entry into e hailing so the companies crashed the price because demand and supply chain was broken in the market dynamics...

Uber drivers in the Uk won a landmark case that gave them rights to be classified as workers rather than self employed..the ruling meant drivers are now entitled to holiday pay, paid rest breaks and national minimum wage

Uber driver in France, Usa, Uk, just name it have all gone on strike at some point or the other yet we will be here calculating what these drivers earn per trip and how their lives are better but forgetting that they pay the price everyday for their future.

Uber Nigeria is very happy that there is no Union or if there is, its not pulling its weight..its to their benefit because for them divide and conquer is the strategy they employ even if the union wants to take shape..they understand the power of a unified voice..the power to hold the company by their jugular or balls..not just holding it but squeezing the life out of it

I picked a rider when i was driving,the man told me his a full time uber driver in the Uk..he was on holiday in Nigeria ..FULL TIME UBER DRIVER...can uber driving in Nigeria save you enough money to go on holiday to Togo?

We must wake up as these companies are exploiting the drivers..instead of complaining this is the step to take..our brothers in other countries have shown us the blueprint and they r reaping the rewards..there is no other way..

Op,the Honda pilot is a very reliable car.if you get a good one you would enjoy it.a lot of people use it as a daily car not to talk of u that intend to use it sparingly. I wanted to also recommend a Volvo xc but u seem to have ur mind made up with the pilot..

I. Hate this follow the crowd syndrome that's why I prefer to be different with the Volvo.Do get the pilot,dnt forget due diligence and proper inspection.Enjoy!
