Hello all, I was checking up CISA website to check up firms that employ CISA holders but to my surprise i couldn't find any Nigerian company. I will like to know companies in Nigeria that employ CISA holders, the remuneration for an entry level CISA holder with little or no experience, and the career prospects available in Nigeria and abroad. Thanks! |

Thanks alot tos! |
Thanks tos, But from ur own point of view which wd u suggest putting these sectors into consideration? I was thinking yesterday, and i thought i shd just opt for Adv. Auditng & Ass. (AAA) since employers in public practice in the UK see it as a requirement (never can tell, i might just fall in there b4 moving on to my investment career) and may be other sectors too like UK banks may require it, so i dont want to be left out. I felt even though i have passion for AFM, not taking it does not prevent me from studying and writing CFA which wd open way for my investment career. When i was writing ICAN, i never did SFM in previous levels but got to learn it in PE3 and passed it. So using this mentality i felt i shd just opt for AAA and when am ready with CFA, go all out and prepare adequately for it. Afterall so many people without Accounting qualifications are doing CFA and passing through studying, so why cant i! I'll need to know what u think, i might still be wrong. Thanks! |
Thanks alot Tos for your prompt response, I really appreciate it. U’ve really helped me cleared some bordering issues. Can you still give me more advice about this ACCA qualification? I just got qualified from ICAN and thinking of going ahead with ACCA, but am kind of in a crossroad on whether to opt for Adv Audtng & Ass. or go for Adv. Fin Mgt cos am looking forward to writing CFA in the future and I thought Adv. Fin Mgt wd give me an in-depth knowledge in order to prepare me for CFA; I want to establish a career in Investment Banking in the long term but just want to do ACCA for now. So which of the courses would you recommend? I don’t know if Nigerian audit firms look at the importance of these courses in ACCA, cos someone might want to get in there for a start. And also, does public practice in the UK mean the likes of KPMGs, PWCs, etc? and what are my chances of getting a job in the Big Four ( even in other depts.) or other Multinationals abroad if Adv. Audtng & Ass. isn’t part of my ACCA qualification, what do I stand to lose if I should opt for one in the expense of the other. I wd really appreciate your response towards this post and also from everyone. Thanks a lot! |
Pls i wd like to know how much is GB pounds sterling currently in black market. Thanks! |
Thanks Sharp man for that insightful comment, I wd still also like to know whether Oxford Brookes degree is still worth it after ur Nigerian Accounting degree. And also, how valuable is Adv. Auditng and Assurance cos someone said its advisable to opt for it as one of the optionals as its compulsory inorder to work in firms in the UK- How true is that? Every comments wd be highly appreciated to enable me chart a way forward. Thanks! |
Hi everyone, What do you guys think about going for the ACCA Oxford Brookes BSc degree after a Bsc degree in Accounting from a Nigerian university. I am thinking about not opting in for it inorder to reduce cost for the exams, cos am seeking exemptions which wd enable me write only professional. But if i opt for the BSc in Applied Accounting, i tend to write F7-F9 and then professional which my budget might not carry. I need advice from everyone to enable know whether to take up the degree or not or stick to the Nigerian Bsc degree in Accounting which i believe wd still get me to where Oxford Brookes degree wd take me - i stand to be corrected! Also, how valuable is Adv. Auditng and Assurance cos someone said its advisable to opt for it as one of the optionals as its compulsory inorder to work in firms in the UK- How true is that? Hoping to hear from u all! Thanks. |
Hi everyone, I really appreciate your posts on this thread. Back then I had the 15,000 I was in a crossroad on what to do with it. I thought very well and instead of investing in any biz or stocks, I invested in myself. I registered for ICAN ATS with the money, struggled to pay for exams and lectures and by the grace of God I just qualified last diet as a Chartered Accountant. So I enjoined you all to help me thank God for letting me see such opportunity and taking charge of it at the right time. Cheers! |

@Jarus I will really appreciate it if you will continue with the infos u were giving before about the recruitment process in the oil and gas industry as u promised Under 'achievement', you will be asked to give an achievement you have made in your life(they don't take academic achievement, so they won't take First Class as an achievement from you. I will give practical question-answer scenario later in this thread when I'm less busy). COMING SOON: MOBIL AND OANDO. I will invite my friend in Chevron global headquarters in US, loma, also a Nairalander, to come and give us hints about Chevron, but the challenge is that he is in their IT dept and may know little about recruitment in their Finance. But let's see what he can offer here. There are lots of people out there like me u are really helping. cheers! |

@TKB Do u know whether IT experience counts when applying for a job after school, cos am really not doing any acctng/finance related tasks presently. But i hope to surely get a job in my field in the future. Will really like to learn more from you. |
Pls i will like to know when Jamb DE form is closing. Anyone with information shd pls reply, cos i need to buy it urgently b4 it closes. Thanks. |
Hi everyone, Want to say thanks to all those that replied my post, u all have really inspired me and spured me on to pursue my career against all odds. @TKB I thought i shd use CIS (Chartered Institute of stockbrokers) exams to keep myself going while in school, just as 've done with ICAN and add it my list of qualifications i intend having to land me in the right places. CFA by the grace of God wd be used to cap 'em all up. I hope to hear more from u and from others! This is a thread i ensure reading every morning, like a daily routine. thanks all! |
Hi everyone, Am kind of inspired with this thread espcially with d kind of people in it who are mostly professionals in their fields. I wd like some mentoring espcially frm pple like TKB and d rest. Ve always wanted 2 launch a career in the Financial/Investmnt Mgt field, am presently doing my IT in a bank and currently writing PE3 of ICAN after which i intend doing CIS(Chrtd Inst. of Stockbrokers). I hope 2 go back to sch afterwards to complete my studies, but am afraid dat i might not beat d age limit i.e 26/27 for entry levels in the job market. I currently need advice from everyone on dis thread, on whether my fears will b put 2 rest with d professional exams am writing and a good grade @ school as backup? Or do employers strictly look at those age limits? thanks. |
I heard on a talk show on radio this morning that NYSC would soon be scrapped, how true is it. Anyone with reliable info concerning this? |

Hi all! I am a student of the prestigious Yabatech, and for my past one year as a student of the college i have not seen any scholarship opportunities coming to the school. Pls i want to know the problem, is that these organisations offering scholarships are discriminating against the polytechnics? or is it that polytechnic undergraduates are not competent enough? I need answers to this or may be i dont have enough information. Pls holla back!!! |
I have a friend that was dropped out from school by the step mother. I know what she is going through right now, the despair and all that, She speaks well but could not read nor write. There are times she would just sit and start crying with the thought of not having a secondary school education. Please is there anywhere where she can learn how to read and write, and probably get a high school education, so that she get her O'levels. |
@ Olayem! Please i will like to know from you whether OAU will be admitting students or setting cut-off marks based on your perfomance on the Post-Jamb only just like UNIBEN? or are they going to set additional cut-off mark on JAMB Scores? Please i really need your help on this urgently, as i want to apply for the forthcoming JAMB and i am still considering the school to choose, as i don't want what happened in Unilag last year to repeat itself. As cut-off marks were set with both Jamb and Post-jamb scores. I will really appreciate your reply on this and likewise those that have taken the Post-Jamb test at OAU. |
Hi everyone, I did the last Post-Ume test in Unilag last year, and they really frustrated everyone by setting a cut-off mark with JAMB and Post UME scores after they've invited candidates who scored 220 or 230 and above to come for the test. Who knew they were going to come out with a decision of setting cut-off with JAMB scores again! Please i will like you all to share your experiences of schools that sets their cut-off marks with only the Post-UME scores, so that i will know the ones to apply to, as i am currently carrying out a review on the schools to prevent what i experienced in Unilag. |
