Your own doctor cant be different. There are only a few cases when a doctor will decide what type of delivery a patient will have: In breech presentation, placenta previa, previous CS scars, abnormal lie and presentation, pre eclampia and a few other conditions . Every other patients is to go thru SVD unless complications set in during the course of the labour. As for induction of labor, that one has specific indications too, no doctor will induce or augment a patient in whom everything is going on normally. Your patients always say doctors are the cause of the problem?you should have asked them how. Was it the doctor that made them to have a obstructed labour or was it the doctor that made their baby to have shoulder Dystocia? Sure! we should give ourselves mutual respect, that's the right thing to do. But we should also learn to educate the patients we come in contact with and clear their minds of erroneous beliefs. That's probably why you must have been seeing foot drops and Erb's palsy. I just laugh when JOHESU spread the lies that Doctors can't work without them, that is the greatest lie from the pit of hell. A doctor was trained to be able to do all the works paramedics(JOHESU) does, it's JOHESU that can't do most of what a doctor can do. Now let's not confuse "can" with "won't". The fact that a doctor can work and make the hospital to work at 100% capacity doesn't mean he will do it, if you want doctors to make the hospital work at 100% anytime johesu is on strike, all the FG needs to do is to say for that particular Hospital, all the doctors will be paid for their normal doctor works and will also be paid the for the JOHESU work they will do while the strike lasts(if JOHESU salary in that hospital is N5m, just tell the doctors that since johesu are not working, that 5m will be shared on the doctors salaries while the strike lasts, then you will see that the doctors will do all the works) They won't do it with this present set up because it doesn't make sense to do someone else's work and the person that hasn't worked will still get paid for doing nothing and the person that has done extra work won't get anything extra. Also when the doctors start doing all the work, majority of those that will come and benefit from that service are still the striking johesu members because like they say everytime that they make up 95% of the hospital workforce. Now let's analyse the work johesu do in the hospital
1. Pharmacists The pharmacist in our hospitals only read what a doctor prescribes and dispense the drugs, no more no less. Pharmacists that work in pharmaceutical companies(they are not under johesu because they don't work in the hospital) are the ones that produce drugs and some medical consumables.
2. Nurses They give injections, and other medications to patients, do vital signs some of them take deliveries.
Doctors can do all that
3. Lab scientists and technicians They run tests on blood, urine and other samples sent to them by doctors
There are doctors in the Lab that can also run all the tests but johesu would have locked up the lab so that doctors don't have access to the lab
4. Radiographers They shoot X-ray, CT scan, MRI and doctors in the radiology dept are the ones that report the film the radiographers shoot.
Doctors can shoot too
So have you seen why they always lock up everywhere when they go on strike?
Now in order to frustrate the doctors more, they include these sets of people in their gang up association called Johesu: The cleaners/sweepers in the hospital, the man that operates the generators, the admin staff. You know why? So that if the doctors do the work of the core hospital staff johesu, if there's power failure the generator man will be no where to be found cos he will claim he is also johesu and he's on strike, the admin staff that should normally prepare salaries and have no business in patient's care will also not prepare the salary of the doctors that are working. So you see? a gateman, generator man, admin staff and the rest all want pay parity with the doctors, and you want the FG to take Johesu serious 38 Likes 10 Shares |

It beats imagination that the NMA will go to any ridiculous length in giving bad names to a dog in order to hang it. Nothing could be farther from the truth.” JOHESU can lie sha, don't they lock up chairs, Tables, instruments, theatre, laboratories etc anytime they go on strike just so that those than can use those things wouldn't have access to them while JOHESU are away. Do all those materials belong to them, are they their personal properties? If anyone wants to go on strike, just handover with proper documentation all the hospital equipments and materials under your care to the concerned authorities and withdraw your services. Opinionated:
The electricity service provider in Nigeria over the last 40 years has become a source of pain, anger and frustration for Nigerians. The company continually fails to deliver electricity, does not bill accurately for the most part and insists on getting paid.
While there are a few alternative power solutions out there, few can be relied upon at the expense of what used to ECN, NEPA, PHCN and now several “EDCs”.
However, some of the new Electricity Distribution Companies are trying to improve on customer service even if supply of electricity is still epileptic.
Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company also Known as Ikeja Electric now sends its customers notification of their debt and its plan to disconnect them soon. While this might not seem like good news to many people, it does give you the chance to pay your bills before any embarrassing disconnection occurs. Also, you get notified of payment when you pay your bills with a balance of any amount still owed given.
This will also help to curb fraud where some officials of the company or even sometimes the people sent to pay on a customer’s behalf pocket the money and claim to have paid thereby causing argument on whether or not a bill has been settled.
This is the example of the message IKEDC customers now get to avoid disconnection:
Dear Customer, Our record shows that as at today, you have outstanding bills yet to be paid. We advise that you please settle all outstanding debts to avoid service disruption. Please disregard if payments have been made.
Thank you for allowing us serve you.
Upon payment being made by the customer, you receive a message like this:
Dear (account number) Your payment of ₦ danger danger for your IE bill was successful. Your outstanding balance is ₦ danger danger Pls pay to avoid service disruption. For enquires call 017000250
Of course, there may be some other notifications depending on whether you use a prepaid meter or have a credit balance with the company.
We applaud the willingness to communicate more effectively with customers but would also love to have steady electricity supply or what do you say?

Jman06: You were making sense until the last paragraph of your post where you displayed a gross lack of knowledge of the roles of pharmacists in healthcare delivery!
You should have just done a little research on the roles of pharmacists in those two countries you cited as focal points and in other developed countries of the world.
For your information, Pharmacists do not only dispense drugs in those countries, they are involved in direct patients contacts through ward rounds and counseling. They check physicians' prescription errors, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, drug-disease interaction, and other possible interactions that could occur in the course of pharmacotherapy. Ever asked yourself why Nigerian healthcare system remains abysmally poor despite government's investments and medical doctors being at the helm of affairs since Some of the reasons can be traced to other healthcare professionals like pharmacists not being allowed to put in their bests in patients care. How i wish that Nigeria could make autopsies compulsory before those who died in hospitals are interred. That will reveal so much about how Nigerians die avoidable deaths from drug errors and improper use of drugs when they go to hospitals. Take a scenario such as this: An epileptic patient who is suffering from lower respiratory tract infection at the same time, he goes to the hospital and the physician prescribed a combination of erythromycin (an antibiotics for his infection) and then carbamazepine (an anti epileptic). Assuming there is no pharmacist around to correct such wrong combination, do you know that the patient would come down with carbamazepine toxicity with the resultant organ failures leading to his death This is just a tip of the iceberg!! Several of these interactions occur both in inpatient and outpatient settings and has led to the death of many!
Haven't you heard of cases where a man left his house to the hospital just to get treated of minor ailment only to die in the hospital following administration of some drugs prescribed by the physician Drugs are very dangerous substance that can either save a man if judiciously used, or KILL him if wrongly used. Pharmacists know drugs and their actions better than physicians as a matter of fact. Knowledge of pharmacology which physicians have is not enough to make rational drug decisions since the important concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are not discussed in details in most pharmacology textbooks, hence pharmacists study them further in clinical pharmacy. Some physicians i.e clinical pharmacologists may have some knowledge in this regard, but mainly for the purposes of research and teaching, besides they are very few. So, the role of Pharmacists in hospitals cannot be overemphasized. If not, the developed nations you cited in your post wouldn't recognize them as key stakeholders in their hospitals to the extent of appointing them as CONSULTANTS.
N:B, I'm a pharmacist in training and my interest is not in hospital pharmacy but in pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. However, the truth has to always be stated regardless of our biases.
Liar. Nigerian drug dispensers calling themselves pharmacists claim they check drug-food interactions but over the years they didn't know that it's dangerous to take Ascorbic acid (That's Vitamin C in case you don't know) with Fanta or Sprite. it took the intervention of the original pharmacists(not mere dispensers) in the UK to detect it for us and warn us to desist, before the house of representatives decided to make it a law that the maker of Fanta and sprite should put the warning of their bottles. How would Nigerian drug dispensers have known when they don't do anything but to dispense and fight for how to become consultants drug dispensers, instead of doing researches? |
