The new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Bamanga Tukur, may soon become the former chairman of the party following the embarrassing involvement of his son, Mahmud in the oil subsidy scandal.
Indications to effect emerged in Abuja today when the members of the National Working Committee of the party met at the party secretariat in the city.
A source told SaharaReporters that members of the NWC were of the view that the President may soon ask Tukur to vacate his position on account of his son’s involvement in the oil subsidy mess.  He is listed among the first suspects to be arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

CrimeMan Shot Wife Dead In Enugu by wurajone(op): 8:47am On Jul 24, 2012
ENUGU – MATHIAS Nweze, a native of Umuida, Enugu-Ezike in Igboeze North local government area of Enugu State, has reportedly shot his wife dead.

The police said yesterday, that they had commenced investigation into the bizarre incident which occurred at about 11pm last Saturday.

Vanguard gathered that Nweze, popularly known as “Honourable”, claimed that while he was sleeping in his house that fateful night, his generator went off twice without knowing the cause.

Having woken up suddenly, he suspected that some thieves may have invaded his compound and as a result, brought out his pump action gun and pointed it towards the direction of the generator.

Without wasting time, he allegedly fired several shots apparently to scare the alleged invaders but unknown to him, his wife was around the place.

Nweze only realized that he had shot his wife when she screamed saying that the bullet had hit her. The woman fell down, bled profusely before sympathizers rushed to the scene.

She was later rushed to New Testament Hospital Ogrute, Igboeze North council headquarter where doctors confirmed her dead.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident, said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. “We have commenced investigation into the incident that led to the shooting of a housewife by the husband,” he said.

Christianity EtcPastor Pays LovePeddlers To Pose As Sick People. by wurajone(op):
The Nation TV in Kenya has uncovered a scam in which thousands of worshipers are duped by a pastor who claims to perform miracles on the sick and needy.
Their compelling investigation has exposed the scandal in which the pastor, Apostle Njoroge of the Fire of the Holy Spirit Ministries International, uses sex workers to pose as sick people who are then supposedly healed to convince worshipers to continue pouring their hard-earned cash into that ministry.

In this video, NTV’s Ferdinand Omondi takes you to the underworld where preachers and sex workers speak the same language. The sex workers opened up about their business with the Pastor, stating exactly how much he paid them for each testimony appearance.

Christianity EtcTunde Bakare Summoned Over Sermon by wurajone(op): 3:50pm On Jul 23, 2012
Nigeria's secret police, the SSS, has invited fiery Lagos Pastor Tunde Bakare to explain the content of his Sunday sermon asking President Goodluck Jonathan to resign from office.
Pastor Bakare was invited to meet with the State director of the SSS at its  Shangisha offices in a Lagos suburb for a 4 PM meeting.
The fiery Lagos pastor and political activist yesterday delivered a damning sermon titled: "How To Change Government Peacefully And Make Society Better".

The pastor leads the  Save Nigeria Group (SNG) which  has had the government in an uncomfortable stare-down in recent times. In December 2010, the group visited President Jonathan in Abuja in connection with its advocacy of certain public policies.
On its way out of the presidential villa, the group was handed a $50,000 bribe, which it refused. The embarrassed government explained that the money was not a bribe, but “transport fare.”
Pastor Bakare eventually ran for vice-president on the ticket of the Congress for Progressive Change. As pastor or political activist, he has always strongly criticized anti-people policies.

HealthFG To Pay Pregnant Women N5,000 For Ante-natal by wurajone(op): 3:21pm On Jul 23, 2012
As part of efforts to tackle the high rates of maternal mortality, the Federal Government will now be paying pregnant women who attend antenatal clinics N5,000.

Besides, more than 4,000 midwives have been deployed to 1,000 health facilities in the country under the Midwifery Service Scheme (MSS).

This according to government was to improve the health status of the new baby and the mother.

Disclosing this, Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed, Director, Primary Health Care System Development, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, said the conclusion of payment plan to reporters in Abuja yesterday.

He said government budgeted N15 billion for Maternal and Child Health Care from the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P). He added that part of the money would also be used to employ additional 2,000 midwives for the MSS.

“The SURE-P Maternal and Child Health Care component has budgets close to 15 billion naira for maternal and child health component.  Key elements involved is not just on the midwives bringing them (pregnant women) alone, the other component of it is what we call the conditional cash transfer; it’s also part of the demand side intervention.

” You know in the health care delivery system we have the supply side intervention; we have the demand side intervention. For the supply side intervention includes all what we do; the input that we need to put in to provide the services.

“But the demand side intervention what do you need to do for the client to be able to come to access your services? You must remove the financial barrier.”

Mohammed said the payment plan was designed to assist women to address the demand side constraints of maternal health. The director said the total package of the financial incentives for each woman was five thousand naira.

He said: “The key issue the conditional cash transfer is designed to address is those demand side constraints, but there is a financial incentive for the woman who does some basic things that are tied to being provided these incentives.

“The woman must deliver at the facility; if she does, she is entitled to something; the woman must also ensure that the child is fully immunised. “The total package is about N5,000. It is not big, but the feeling is that considering the level of poverty, it’s enough for women to attend antenatal clinic.’’

Mohammed also said that while antenatal clinic attendance was free, it had some incidental expenses that discouraged pregnant women from registering for antenatal care. He said funding from Sure-P would enable the agency to ensure that the relevant health services were of good quality, that care providers were available and to ensure that the facilities provided were conducive to antenatal attendance.

CelebritiesD’banj Gives Naeto C 2012 Porsche Cayenne As Wedding Gift ? by wurajone(op): 11:58am On Jul 22, 2012
The singer presented a 2012 Porsche Cayenne to Naeto C at his wedding reception today and some people are saying he did it on behalf of someone else. No, he didn't! D'banj bought the brand new 2012 Porsche Cayenne himself and presented it to Naeto, who is one of his best friends and brother in the music industry, as a wedding gift.

I don't want to speculate on the amount because people from D'banj's camp refused to tell me, but from findings on Google, the car is worth between 12million and 15million. I know it's hard to believe that someone will buy such a gift for another person, but that was D'banj's gift to Naeto C. Guess the kokomaster has a large heart! God continue to bless him!

Foreign AffairsTunisia's Ben Ali Sentenced To Life In Jail by wurajone(op): 12:51am On Jul 20, 2012
Exiled ex-president sentenced in absentia for "complicity" in murders of 43 protesters during country's 2011 uprising.
Tunisia's ex-strongman Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has been sentenced in absentia to life in prison for complicity in the murders of 43 protesters in the 2011 revolution that toppled him, a military judge has said.

Hedi Ayari of the Tunis military court said on Thursday that Ben Ali was judged with around 40 of his former officials, including General Ali Seriati, ex-head of presidential security, who was given a 20-year prison term.

Former interior minister Rafik Belhaj Kacem was sentenced to 15 years, while the case against Ahmed Friaa, another former interior minister, was dismissed.

In total, 21 of those charged were acquitted, and Ben Ali was the only defendant to receive a life sentence, a court official said.

The other sentences ran between five and 20 years. Families of the victims reacted angrily, saying the sentences for Seriati and Kacem were too lenient and criticising the dismissal of the case against Friaa.

PoliticsPDP Hindering Growth Of Democracy In Nigeria – ACN by wurajone(op): 12:34am On Jul 20, 2012
IBADAN—Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, yesterday accused the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, of hindering the growth of democracy in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party accused the PDP of anti-democratic antics, election manipulation, lack of respect for the rule of law and disregard for the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, just to mention a few.

The statement read: ‘’Mr. President, the reason Nigeria’s democracy has survived thus far is not the robustness of the PDP, as you have  said, but the determination and courage of the good people of Nigeria, who have resolved to say ‘never again’ to  anti-democratic forces, as well as the robust opposition mounted by a few progressive forces.

“Were it left for the PDP, this democracy as we know it would have become history. This is the party that has weakened all the institutions that are indispensable to building a virile democracy, from the judiciary to the legislature.

This is the party that has sought to emasculate the opposition by infiltrating their ranks and coercing them into a fake unity government. This is the party that does not believe in one man, one vote, but will rather engage in do-or-die politics to win at all cost.

The PDP is the party that has frittered away the commonwealth since 1999 and failed woefully to deliver the dividends of democracy, thus shaking the belief of an increasing number of our citizens in democracy as a system of governance,” the statement added.

ACN argued that the PDP had been subjected to intense criticism by Nigerians, not just the opposition, “is that the party (PDP) has failed to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people in terms of good governance, provision of visionary leadership as well as the basic social amenities that make life more abundant and meaningful. Simply put, the quality-of-life initiative of the PDP is zero.

“Mr. President, it is not the opposition alone that is complaining. The people are fed up with the PDP governments at all levels, and what happened in Edo last weekend is the clearest indication yet that the PDP, with all its so-called spread, access to limitless funds and control of the state instrument of coercion, is fast receding into irrelevance.’’

It also described as an unnecessary distraction the plan to bring ministers and other key government officials to brief the NEC  of the PDP as a way of informing the people of what the party had done, saying ‘’The truth is that the PDP has done nothing to justify its strangle-hold on power at the centre since 1999. “

CelebritiesNeato C Plans Secret Wedding (july 21st) by wurajone(op): 10:51pm On Jul 19, 2012
Naeto Chikwe aka Naeto C, will be walking down the aisle on July 21, 2012. The self-proclaimed ‘only MC with an MSc,’ has discreetly invited close friends and associates to the event, with instructions not to turn his big day into a jamboree.

According to the suave rapper and graduate of Dundee University in Republic of Ireland, “All the traditional wedding protocols have been observed by my family and in-laws. I want the church wedding and reception as quiet and private as it can be. That is the reason why I have not told any of my friends in the media the date or venue of my wedding. Doing so is to invite the whole of Lagos and its environs.”

When asked why he had decided to keep the media out of the wedding, he replied, “I don’t want my bride to bear the burden of public scrutiny. I want to shield her from unnecessary molestation and embarrassment from showbiz fans.

“I want her to go to the church, the market or go anywhere she likes without being trailed by prying eyes just because she is Naeto C’s wife. No, my private life is a far cry from my public life. I wish my fans and well-wishers would respect my wish for a quiet wedding. That is all I ask as wedding gifts from them.”
