Congratulations. May the land favour you. Amakaota: *Landing gist part 1*
We left Nigeria on Wednesday 23rd Jan with Ethiopian Airline, actually booked the tickets on 23rd October a week after our ppr to get a great deal but the last time I checked; I think about two weeks to our trip, the price was about 300k difference. We traveled alongside my mom but decided not to carry too much load. In total we had 5 check-in luggage and 6 carry-on luggage but checked in 9 of the luggage at Lagos. We paid 3k for the food items we had which was mostly fishes. (one luggage was dedicated to azu okpoo). Also paid 4k to wrap the 4 Ghana-must-go luggage at 1k each. Meanwhile the workers at MM2 should be named beggars, they beg with passion that if you didn't give them anything you start feeling bad within you. Flight from Lagos to Addis was smooth, the flight was 1:40pm but we left Lagos at about 1:50pm and reached Addis in 6 hours which was 8pm (10pm Addis time). The food were fair for the adults but my kids didn't like them, we had to pack the snacks cos we were sure they will demand for it later. While at Addis, a staff of the ET asked us to check-in the remaining two carry-on luggage and this came as a big relief cos it wasn't easy carrying the luggage and the kids. We had a 2 hour layover, then boarded and left for Toronto enroute Dublin. It was about 8 hours flight to Dublin with 45 minutes stop over for refuelling and drop off. We continued to Toronto and it was a smooth one even while crossing along the Atlantic but had a small wobbling while approaching Newfoundland. We touched down Toronto at 8am Toronto time (2pm Nigeria time, which completed it 24 hours trip from Lagos to Toronto) and proceeded straight to immigration, the queue was much with many other immigrants from Nigeria and other countries. The staff were so friendly and willing to assist with every possible way. We wanted to proceed with SIN but decided to do that later since we already missed our connecting flight to Vancouver which was a 9am flight. We proceeded to exit and picked our luggage and went straight to Air Canada and we're told that the next flight is 5pm. This was the saddest news of the trip. It was 10 am in Toronto and we had to be in pearson for the next 7 hours doing nothing. It was worst when i learnt that trip from Toronto to Vancouver is 5 hours 20 minutes. Our connecting flight from Vancouver to Prince George (our finally destination) that was 6.30pm had to be moved to 9.50pm to be sure we meet up. Meanwhile, Ontario is 3 hours ahead of BC. It wasnt easy to control the kids especially my son that just turned 3 and my infant daughter that screams while crying. Highlight of the hectic day was when my infant daughter insisted on touching a golden retriever guide dog, she was screaming that I had no option than to succumb as everyone was like, allow her touch the dog. Her wish was finally granted and she was glad. (pics later in u guys care). To cut the whole story short we finally boarded and left for Vancouver and reached promptly to meet up with our connecting flight to Prince George. Touching down Prince George was funny cos all these while, we haven't come down directly to open weather and my son is always first to proceed to exit. This time he did the same but was welcomed with the cold of -3 (though feeling like -7). He shouted "I don't want to go down again" . Meanwhile, since trip from Vancouver to Prince George wasn't part of our payment to ET, we paid westjet 30 CDN for each of the 5 luggage and had to carry 6 carry-on on luggage, which was very difficult to carry at this stage due to fatigue. I witnessed First Class love from Canadian as they voluntered to assist with the luggage which was almost impossible for me to carry alone. One offered to carry my son as he was crying, my wife was already carrying my sleeping infant daughter, and he was crying that he should be carried along. My mom was tired, my wife was tired, my kids were all tired. I was as well tired but I needed for carry on. On entering the arrival bay awaits my siblings and it was a great reunion.

Bravo. You have done a good job bro TheCongo2: Student Landing Gist
Happy new year everyone.
Today January 1st 2019, I received a call from @Naijaforeigner who told me a nairalander would be landing at the London International Airport at noon. The guest was arriving from Lagos via Toronto and was coming to Canada to do his master at Western University. @Naijaforeigner asked me if we could go to pick him at the London International Airport. After checking with "mrs TheCongo2", there was no objection. However, mrs asked me that I should give the kids their baths before going out of the house . And this was done promptly.
I left my house to pick up @Naijaforeigner and then we were on the way to the Airport. London International Airport is small with only one terminal. The flight from Toronto to London can take about 30 minutes whereas the road would take 2 hours. It was 10 minutes past noon when we arrived at the aiport and our guest was already there. His flight had landed at noon. He didn't have to go through the immigration process in London given that he had done that in Toronto. Given that he was coming to Canada on student visa, he was given the work permit at the immigration in Toronto. Foreign students are authorized to work ON and OFF campus in Canada while enrolled in school.
Our guest didn't have the time to wait for his SIN number application to be processed in Toronto because he had to catch his connecting flight to London. So, he decided that he will apply for his SIN card in London. Given that January 1st is a holiday, all businesses were closed. Therefore, we couldn't assist our guest with the process of applying for his SIN number nor open his bank account nor getting a cellphone. He would wait for the next business day.
Our guest intention was to stay at the hotel for 3 days before getting an appartment. However, before our guest arrived, @Naijaforeigner had already called around some landlords in the vicinity of Western University. Naijaforeigner knows the challenge of getting accommodation in London given that he himself had arrived in Canada 3 weeks ago on student visa. Therefore, he wanted to use his experience to help new comers.
After we left the aiport with our guest, we went straight to visit the first house and we were welcome by the landlord. This man was very friendly and welcoming. The house had 5 bedroooms and 2 of the rooms were unocupied. All the other tenants are student from Western University. This place was also within a walking distance from Western University. One of the rooms was shown to our guest. It was furnished. The landlord told our guest that he could move in right away by only paying the first month rent. There was no need for a lease nor a downplayment. And he could move out anytime he wanted. I personnaly like the place but our guest didn't seem too enthusistic about taking it. Our guest wanted to visit the other places before making his final decision. We told the landlord that we will get back to him and left the place.
We drove off to visit the next house in a new and very nice neighborhood. We were welcome by the friendliest elderly couple. This couple was white. In fact all the landlord we saw today and the tenants were white. The elderly couple live alone in a 2 level house. When we walked into the house, the couple ushered us to the lower lever of the house which was the basement. They were renting their basement which was furnished. The basement had a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room set but no kitchen. We all loved this place. But, there was a downside. No cooking. If our guest had to take that place, he wasn't going to be cooking in the house. At this our guest turned off this place given that it would be too expensive to start buying food from restaurants every day. On our way out from the house, I noticed 2 books by John Grisham on a table. I screemed "Who is reading John Grisham". The wife pointing the finger to the husband "He is the one reading them". I told them how John Grisham is my favor author. Then the husband gave me a book by a different author and told me "Take this one and read it, I am sure you will like him as well". Wow ... I marvelled ... I got a free book from this couple.
We drove off again to view another place. This new place was a 4 bedrooms house. The landlord was expecting our visit and he was on site. All the tenants were also students at Western University. After viewing this new place, our guest was satisfied that this was the place he was going to take. The landlord told him that he can move in right away if he wanted to. However, our guest explained to the landlord that he was going to stay at the hotel at least for one day and would move in the next day. He provided his email address to the landlord so that the landlord can send him the lease to sign.
Then, we drove off to the hotel. The hotel name was "Guest House on the Mount". Our guest paid for his stay with his nigerian credit card. He was assigned a room. It was almost 3 pm when we got into our guest's room, almost 3 hours after he had landed in London. We seated down and started to chat. Our guest said that he didn't like London from what he had seen so far. He was disappointed with London. Suddenly, I received a call from "mrs TheCongo2" with the majestic "Where are you?" I told her that we had just got to the hotel and I was ready to be heading back home.
By this time, our guest remembered that he hadn't eaten. He was hungry. @Naijaforeigner was invited to a nigerian party. So he decided to take our guest with him so that he can eat nigerian food. To get to the party, we had to drive from the Northern part of the City of London to the Southern part by passing through downtown London. OMG... our guest's mind about London changed as we were driving through the city. He found that London Ontario was extremely beautiful and he loved it. He felt like he will enjoy his stay in London, Ontario. |

How organized was the test at IDP Kano, was writing material provided for you by IDP or you brought in yours? Did you use ear phone for listening or was it through speaker? Please give info on the general conduct of the exam at the centre. Thank you. floydmayweather: Thanks for the advise..
I think i need to drop my ielts story as I feel some people will motivated and get their desired score.
Background : I am not a lover of english bother professionally and in my day to day interaction. I failed 2 attempts of ielts writing through BC. So I figured out listening and writing were my major challenge, as I did not even practise well during those attempt.
Strategy : For my third attempt i registered with MOD given myself one month of preparation. Then i solved through the Cambridge 1-13 test. I must confess that is harder than the real exam.
I brushed up on other writing; using liz and Jay video.
Test day 12/01/2018 : I maintained 100% attention and was able to pick out the answer ( I will say this was partly due to a cool environment as we were just 21 candidate for the exam (IDP Kano).
For writing : task one was what i could relate to. I ensured i did not miss out any area on the outline of the task. For section 2, I notice i did not have vocabulary to start changing word but i did not miss any of this steps.
1. Define or recap the issue you were ask to talk about.
2. Take a clear position in summary or listing (supporting view, advantages etc)
3. Buttress on the one you not supporting in summary or listing (opposing view, disadvantages)
4. Pick out 2 and 3 and explain in details with examples.
5. Reaffirm you position ( conclusion).
This gave me a 7 in writing. I hope this can inspire someone not to give up .
It shall end in praise |

Wao you are doing a very good job. Hope to write my own savings notes soon atutupoyoyo2211: I made $3572 before taxes in the last 2 weeks. After tax, i was paid $2809. Out of this i saved about $2400. The rest of the savings came from an extra job i did sometime ago and a debt i was owed by a friend. The reason why i am this elaborate with these figures is to disuade that notion that because of taxes or bills, one can not make a decent income and still save, and it encourages my to push on. I am also supporting my wife and we both decided she enrol in school full time for her masters degree. So she doesn't work for now. but she will start a part time job soon at my place of work. If you are willing to work hard, you can succeed. I will be moving to a house closer to my work place in the next few weeks, just a 12 minutes drive. This means i will start getting a full 7 hours sleep, which is nice. |

I was even thinking it is the fan, from my own observation I only see one fan working at intervals when I start the car, though the vehicle has never done over heating so not really sure if the two fans work or not. oluwaseunla: Diagnosis required. It could be different things, e.g a failing compressor, or a blockage in the system. |
