Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Questions To Ask Before Accepting A Job Offer. by XKZ(m): 7:59am On Jul 13, 2017
tripleY:

Is there a clear job description?

Does your offer letter clearly specify what you will be signing up for once you accept the offer? Do you know what is expected of you – what you are expected to do daily? Many people do not. According to experts, the accepted a job offer based on their understanding of what a public relations officer is expected to do – according to the text books. They don’t bother to find out what it means to be a PRO in that particular organisation. So, by the time they are asked to run an unusual errand they may end up saying, “This is not what I signed up for.”

Experts say it is important to understand what the organisation wants from you and to have that expectation documented.

It is equally important to be clear on such things as work schedule. This is more so for people with children and many other responsibilities or activities outside their jobs. By having a clear schedule and job description it is easier to plan.

The Chief Executive Officer, ReQit Limited, Mr. Ken Okolo, says this is part of the questions people should ask when it comes to taking up a job offer.

“Can I say, for instance, that if I work for XYZ company, I will be able to have a good work-life balance and my retirement package is certain?”

It seems these experts have not come across the clause "and any other duties that maybe be assigned to you from time to time...".

Makes me wonder what their expertise is in...

Please are there any pictures of the abandoned placards

There was opposition from Sudan initially. Now, it has been resolved. Egypt also opposed it first and continues to oppose it. They are saying, large quantity of water and fertile soil will be cut by the Dam. They even warned us of a possibility of striking the Dam or declaring war. The truth however is there isn't going to be significant water reduction to them by the Dam. They just don't want to see a powerful Ethiopia.

Our military is best and they can declare a war if they want. We had kicked their ass twice in the 19th century and we will do it again if they come.

Let's hope it doesn't come to war, I don't think Egypt will be a pushover. I understand their military is quite fine tuned (from having to contend with Israel and Libya). I've heard them being rated as best in Africa.

Will this be Ethiopia's first dam on the Nile

Yes, our Renaissance Dam is being build on the Nile(Blue Nile).

Do you know that, 85% of the Nile river water originate from Ethiopia Tana lake.

85%(Blue Nile) + 15%(white Nile)=main Nile river.

Right. Are there no issues with other countries that use the Nile

Of course, I do.
Nigeria has been aptly described as a kleptocracy; the major achievement of our successive leaders is enriching themselves from the public coffers.

Yeah, we are the first sub sharan nation to have light railway? There are also others railways which are on construction to connect major parts of the country. We are also building the largest Dam(Renaissance Dam) and Airport(other international airport adjacent to the current Bole international airport) in Africa and one of the largest in the world. There are also other big infrastructure projects which are in construction.

What is the condition of your railway which is in construction process?

What about other big infrastructure projects in your country?

Currently, our railway is in a moribund state. There has been some new projects in the sector though, like the Abuja-Kaduna railway.
Also some new projects are being proposed, like the coastal railway. And GE is coming in to manage a large portion of the railway network.
At the state level, Lagos State is building a light rail network, though it's more than 5 years behind schedule.

Hopefully in the coming years rail transportation in Nigeria would see significant improvement

With respect to the dam, is it on the Nile

Do northern and southern Nigerians hate each other's?

Is it safe to live in the northern part? I ask because, Boko Haram stronghold on is in northern Nigeria.

For the most part, southerners and northerners live peacefully side by side. They do not necessarily hate each other.
Most conflicts are usually religious in nature (but take on an ethnic hue because the north is mostly Muslim and the south Christian); or political (as politicians tend to play the ethnic card when they're trying to get their way)

For instance an irresponsible governor in a northern state, a few days ago at the commencement of Ramadan, allegedly implied that Christians will be attacked if the eat while Muslims are fasting

With respect to Boko Haram their activities are limited to part of 1 state out of 19 northern states, so it is largely safe to live in the north

To be honest the applicability of this is restricted to Lagos state untill it is tested in a superior court like the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court.
Also bear in mind that the Court which delivered the judgement is a High court. A High Court sitting in Akwaibom state is not bound by this decision.

Thanks a lot for throwing more light...

But since the applicability is restricted to Lagos why was the Ministry of the Interior so eager to act on it, even writing to foreign embassies

UV mixed up your words with mine ! angry

Take wrong certificates to be issued good ones indeed .
But the E.Dassol form they will refill again, is it not the husband and wife that will fill the form?
If any one of the couple wants out ? He or she will simply refuse to refill any form with the other . And the marriage is null and void no more going to court again for divorce .
Except they still want to be together , then they can both refill the form again.

Mehn my friend will be so happy today grin, while her estranged husband always threatening about their court marriage will be so infuriated cheesy
Lemme quickly rush to her house .. Brb guys

Your friend might not be so lucky...

Section 166 of our Evidence Act provides that court will presume
marriage where there is cohabitation as husband and wife by man and woman.

If she wants out she should go get a divorce
Family / Re: Court Declares LG Marriage Certificates Illegal by XKZ(m): 8:55am On May 29, 2017

From what I understand, local government have not been barred from issuing marriage certificates. they have only been barred from issuing certificates which are not in conformity with Form E under section 24 of the Marriage Act. Thus to this extent certificates issued by local governments and called Modified Local Government Unified Marriage Certificate is null and void.
All what needs to be done is for the local government to recall all certificates issued and called Modified Local Government Unified Marriage Certificate and re-issue the appropriate certificate recognized by Form E under section 24 of the Marriage Act.

Dinobi77:
It's not the marriages that re annulled, but the certificate issued by the councils aren't legal, they were supposed to be exact type authorized by the federal govt. One only needs to apply for reissue, THE MARRIAGES ARE NOT ANNULLED.

Rexology:
The court also held that the marriages of those that were issued the Unified marriage certificates are GOOD and VALID ,just that the wrong certificates were issued to them.If you are affected by this judgment, just take the wrong certificate to where it was issued and you will be reissued the form E.

Do you know if it's all LGAs in Nigeria that issued the illegal certificate or only those in Lagos

Yes, they would have stayed.

We are giving billions of $ to Djibouti annually for letting us use their port. We are a poor country and those huge money could have been used on developing the infrastructures of the country if we had our own seaport. If one day, either Eritrea or Djibouti joined us, this problem may be resolved. But with all those difficulties we are facing, our economy growth is the fastest in Africa and one of the fastest in the world.

It has affected hugely. The regional government has the responsibility to keep the interest of the many ethnic groups in his state. The federal government has also the responsibility to keep the interest of those 9 states. Since the federal government personnels are from different ethnic groups, certain ethnic groups ideas doesn't work, but what we are seeing is the opposite in certain level. Amharic is federal government language, since Amhara culture was relatively the dominant in the country in the past and now.

What about in Nigeria?

Well, in Nigeria the system is designed, in theory, to ensure that the needs of everyone is equally met. But that doesn't happen in practice.

Southerners will argue that the system favours the North, while Northerners will tell you the South benefits the most; and everyone screams they are marginalised.

Although we claim to run a federal system, in reality Nigerian government is unitary.
Most revenue is made in the south (all oil producing areas are in the south), collated by the 'federal' government and re-distributed in such a way that most revenue goes to the north.

Oh, I forgot to answer your question about Eritrea.

The coast side of Eritrea was in Ottoman occupation from mid 16th century to mid 19th century. Ottomans then leased the cost areas to Egypt in the 19th century. After Egypt was colonized by Britain, Italy private company and later the Italian government occupied it. The Italians then started to further occupy the inland areas as far as Merib Melash river. During the battle of Adwa, after Abyssinians crushed Italians, emperor Menelik II didn't ordered his army to invade the area north of Merib Melash river(Eritrea) and liberate the peoples from Italy. His decision really angered the people that live in those areas.

After Italy and Britain were driven out of Eritrea after the WWII, Eritrea was federated with Ethiopia, but emperor Haile Selassie broke the promise and united Eritrea with Ethiopia unitary system. Because of this, the Eritreans started and continued their military struggle for liberation during emperor Haile Selassie and Derg regimes. After the fall of Derg in 1991, a referendum was held for the Eritrea people to decide whether to stick with Ethiopia as a federal state or leave. 99% of Eritreans decided to leave and now here they are being an independent country. In 1998, they tried to invade us, but we driven them out from our soil and we started our march to Asmara, Eritrea capital. When they understood they are being defeated, they accepted peace deal and we stopped our march. Read about it. It's interesting.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eritrean–Ethiopian_War

Basically, northern Ethiopians and Eritreans are the same people, but long period of foreign occupation and betrayal(as they feel) created a new identity for them and wanted to be independent from Ethiopia.

So if only the Emperor had allowed the federation Eritrea probably would still be part of Ethiopia...

I understand Eritrea's exit made Ethiopia the most populous landlocked country. How does the country manage without a seaport

Shewa was controlled by many different peoples throughout history. Axumities had controlled it, until Muslims conquered it in the 9th century and established the first Muslim state in Africa. After the downfall of Axum and during the Zagwe dynasty period, Amharas(Axumitie descendants with together Tigrays, Gurages, Harars and Eritreans) started to conquered it. During the Abyssinian-Adal(Somalia, Afar and Harar) war, the Adals conquered it together with large areas of Abyssinia for 12 years. During the great Oromo population movement, Oromos conquered it, but after 18th century, the Amharas started to regain it. After the fall of Derg in 1991, the federal system based on ethnicity was adopted. Since Shewa was controlled by many peoples throughout history, different peoples permanently lived there, so north Shewa was given to Amhara region, because it was a historical places for Amharas and many Amharas lived there. West and south Shewa were given to Oromo region and east Shewa was given to Afars just like the reasons I stated above.

The first Abyssinia emperor Yekuno Amlak, our great emperor Menelik II and many other Abyssinia emperors were from Shewa. Personally, I believe all Shewa belongs to the Amharas. My father was from north Shewa.

Map of north Shewa and Amhara in general.

No, it isn't. I doubt Queen of Sheba to be a real person, but the legend associate herself to Eritrea and further northern part of Ethiopia. Before 1991, Shewa was one zone, but after 1991, it was divided into 4 areas. North Shewa was given to Amharas, south and west Shewa was given to Oromos and east Shewa was given to Afars.

Interesting, always thought it was Ethiopia
So what's the story behind Shewa being split up; and Eritrea leaving Ethiopia
