PoliticsMusa Gowon: Son Of Yakubu Gowon To Return To Nigeria After 22 Years In Us Prison by xmich(op): 8:31am On Nov 28, 2015
The son of former Nigerian military head of state Yakubu Gowon is due to return to Nigeria after spending 22 years in a US prison after being convicted on drug-related charges. It is believed Musa Gowon was released from the Taft Correctional Facility Bakersfield, California, after US President Barack Obama granted him pardon earlier in November.

The Igbo Mandate Congress (IMC)- which advocates for the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria - has said it was arranging a welcome ceremony. The date of Gowon's arrival has not yet been disclosed. He is currently being held at a deportation centre in the US.

The relationship allegedly ended during the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970) - also known as the Biafran war - as Okongwu disagreed with Yakubu Gowon - then head of state - over the role of the Nigerian army in the war. The army has been accused of deliberately bombing Biafran civilians and imposing a blockade that resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of civilians due to lack of food and medicine.

After the war, Okongwu emigrated with her son to the US. She later returned to Nigeria, while Musa remained in the US where he joined a Colombian drug cartel. He was arrested and sentenced to 40 years in jail in 1992, at the age of 23. Musa was said to have lived a flamboyant lifestyle until he was arrested on November 18, 1992 aged 23, prosecuted and given 40-year jail sentence the following year.

U.S. President Obama last month granted him state pardon after he had spent 22 years in prison. He is now in the custody of U.S. Immigration booked for deportation to Nigeria anytime from now
IMC thanked Obama for the pardon: "Igbo Mandate Congress also expresses gratitude to the United States President Barrack Obama for the pardon granted Musa Ngonadi Gowon in the spirit of reconciliation and demand good treatment of this man born under the contradictions of love, hate and an unnecessary civil war.

Gowon created a Facebook account in 2013 where he routinely wrote messages thanking family and friends for his support. in March 2015, he wrote: "To all my family and friends. I recently read all your lovely birthday messages to me, and I was overjoyed at the beautiful and kind words of encouragement sent to me. I hear you all and unfortunately I can't respond directly to everyone... But in due time we shall all see again, by the grace of God. Thank you once more for the love and support and I hold you all in a special part of my heart. God bless."

After being overthrown in 1975, Gowon's father moved to the UK, where he obtained a PhD at Warwick University in 1983. He returned to Nigeria that same year after being pardoned by the then president Shehu Shagari for his alleged role in the 1976 coup d'etat in Nigeria. Gowon's father still lives in the UK.

PoliticsStop Junketing Around The Globe Acting Like A Saint Before The International Com by xmich(op): 9:32pm On Nov 27, 2015
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has carpeted President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim that past government officials who looted the treasury had started returning the stolen funds, saying such monies ought to have been transferred to the Federation Account if it was true.

Fayose also advised the president to stop globetrotting in view of the hardship being faced by Nigerians due to fuel shortages, saying junketing around the globe and acting like a saint before the international community would do the country no good.

The governor challenged the president to give specific amounts that had been returned by looters, saying: “Since the purported looted funds belong to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it ought to have been paid into the Federation Account and shared by the federal, state and local governments.”

The governor’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement yesterday in Ado-Ekiti that Fayose advised Buhari to tackle the collapsed economy of the country headlong instead of going from one country to another, casting aspersions on Nigerians with his sing-song of fighting corruption.

“Buhari’s statement in Tehran, Iran that it was easier for him as a military head of state in 1984 to arrest corrupt individuals and put them in protective custody was a pointer to the fact that he has not changed from the dictator that he was then.

“The truth is that Buhari did not fight corruption in 1984. Rather, he persecuted great Nigerians, especially the likes of Chief Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Ambrose Ali, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, Alhaji Lateef Jakande and Chief Bola Ige, who served the people meritoriously.

“Is Buhari justifying the imprisonment of Dr. Alex Ekwueme, who was only the vice-president or the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader like Chief Bisi Akande, who only served as a deputy governor?” he asked.

Calling on the president to stop portraying himself as the only honest person in the country, Fayose said: “Nigerians are desirous of concrete development, not rhetoric about the fight against corruption that is only being used to persecute perceived political enemies of the president both in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and within the APC.

“As at today, Nigerians are faced with serious hardship occasioned by prolonged fuel shortages that the federal government does not have any solution to. Multinational companies are laying off thousands of workers while contractors working for the federal government have left their sites.

“Yet, what we get to hear from the president is noise in foreign lands about a non-existent fight against corruption.
“Honestly, this president should get to work and stop lying to Nigerians and the international community.”

PoliticsSENATE GIVES BUHARI 2WKS ULTIMATUM TO END FUEL SCARCITY by xmich(op): 8:16am On Nov 27, 2015
The Senate yesterday gave President Muhammadu Buhari two weeks ultimatum to end the fuel scarcity across the country.
The ultimatum was given when stakeholders in the sector led by the ministry of petroleum, Permanent Secretary, Jamila Shu’ara appeared before the Senate committee on downstream petroleum.

The position of the Senate was made known by Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife (PDP, Anambra Central) after the Managing Director of the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), Esther Nnamdi Ogbua, the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Authority (PPPRA), Ahmed Faruk and other stakeholders briefed the lawmakers.
Ekwunife who chairs the Senate committee on downstream petroleum said in addition to the availability of fuel, the price of the commodity must be same across the country.

“The scarcity of petrol must be stopped and the discrepancies in the price of the commodity must also be addressed. We will give you target,” she said.
The lawmakers also gave the PPPRA 24 hours to submit the breakdown of the N413bn subsidy payment. The 24 hours ultimatum elapses today.

Also addressing the stakeholders, the vice chairman of Senate committee on downstream petroleum Jibrin I. Barau (APC, Kano North) said the Senate would deal with anybody who wants to stop their quest to address the challenges bedevilling the petroleum sector.

Fielding answer to questions from the Senators, the PPPRA boss, Ahmed Faruk said N120 billion out of the N413billion outstanding subsidy money was from 2014.
He said presently the price of petroleum at the open market was N100 and that the Federal government is paying a subsidy of N13 on each litre of the product.

The Group Executive Director (Commercial and Investment) of the NNPC, Babatunde Adeniran said the subsidy has to be paid as at when due to address the scarcity of the petroleum and that, the pipelines must be made to function well.
On her part, the PPMC boss, Esther Nnamdi Ogbua said the marketers are sabotaging the move to make fuel available in the country.

PoliticsBuhari Should Release Nnamdi Kanu Immediately Or Face The Wrath Of Heaven - Nwok by xmich(op): 8:08am On Nov 27, 2015
Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has disowned the South-East Governors’ Forum, elders and Ohanaeze over their alleged role in the agitation for the release of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Mr. Emma Powerful, leader of the group said this in a statement on the heels of a warning from Anthony Nwoko, an Enugu-based prophet to President Muhammdu Buhari to desist from truncating the actualisation of a Biafra state.
Powerful said IPOB rejected South-East Governors’ Forum and Ohanaeze stance on the continued incarceration of Kanu and warned the groups to desist from sabotaging the efforts of IPOB.
He described the groups as “disappointments to Ndigbo and Biafrans in general,” adding: “They can only be talking about an unconditional release of Kanu and not try to stop Biafra peaceful protests,
“We will not stop until our leader is released unconditionally.

Those claiming they are representing IPOB should desist from it because we don’t know them. Those calling only Igbo should know that Igbo is a language in Biafra and we have 11 tribes in Biafra land.”
On his part, Nwoko warned Buhari to expedite Kanu’s release or “Heaven will strike against his administration…”

Prophet Nwoko further called on the federal government to desist from killing, terrorizing and intimidating indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and the Igbo nation as such action was inimical to the growth and development of the country.
He expressed optimism that in 2019, an Igbo man would emerge as the next President of the country adding that God has chosen him to alleviate the suffering of the Igbo race and restore the lost glory of the nation.

“Buhari should release Nnamdi Kanu immediately or face the wrath of Heaven. Buhari is not spiritually qualified to lead the nation and he is not the expected Prince of Peace. He is not the messiah the country is waiting for. He does not possess the heavenly gift to liberate Nigeria”.
He lambasted the administration of President Buhari for marginalizing the Igbos especially in the aspect of appointments, insisting that President Buhari was not the messiah sent to change the economic misfortunes of Nigeria and Nigerians.

“The next President of Nigeria will come from the South East of Nigeria; South Easterners are the light of the country. Anyone fighting them is in darkness. This message is for the five Governors of the South East, the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Igbo politicians among others”.

PoliticsIt Is A Shame That The Nation Cannot Account For Over 200 Girls In Chibok - Soyi by xmich(op): 10:43am On Nov 25, 2015
Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has described the inability of the nation to rescue missing Chibok girls as shameful.
He was speaking at the inauguration of Government High School in Ejigbo, built by the admiration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola and named after him.

The Nobel Laureate enjoined leaders in the country to ensure that children are brought up with a feeling that no religion is superior to the other. He said all hands must be on deck to ensure that school children are not divided along religious lines.
“It is a shame that the nation cannot account for over 200 girls in Chibok, I sympathize with the religious policy of governments in schools, children must not be brought up with a feeling that religion inhibits knowledge.

“In schools, we need not distinguish our children, the fatalistic religious holiness and the holier than thou attitude must be reduced among our students”, he said.
Governor Aregbesola in his remarks said given the lean resources of the state, the cost of the school was huge but that it was a worthy investment.

He said within the first quarter of next year, his government would also commission another set of schools in the same category.
‎He stressed that no government can overspend on the education of the people, saying ‎education is human development and the primary way any family can get a lasting benefit from government.

Aregbesola said it was befitting that Osun named the school after Soyinka whom he described as an excellent product of public education and a distinguished academic who brought honour to Yorubaland, Nigeria, Africa and the black race with his Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986.

PoliticsEconomic Policy On Biafrans-wikipedia by xmich(op):
"They Igbo have been defeated in war, rendered paupers by monetary policy fiat, their properties declared abandoned and confiscated, kept out of strategic public sector appointments, and deprived of public services. The rest of the country forced them to remain in Nigeria and has continued to deny them equity", said Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and current Emir of Kano.[41]

Many have argued that the Federal Government through the Post-Civil Indegenization decree of 1972 and 1977 formulated in the National Development Plan, punished and deprived Biafran Igbos economically as banks in line with Federal directive could not give any ethnic Igbo more than twenty Nigerian Naira to start-off live. Biafran Igbos were unable to obtain loans neither could they get more than twenty naira regardless of how much individual had in banks prior to the civil-war, to be able acquire shares from foreign Businesses being indigenized.

[42] "Ask yourselves “why would the banks give Igbos only twenty naira? Did the banks collapse? So why pay less than you were given? So while the banks were giving loans to Hausa and Yorubas to buy Oyibo companies they did not build, Igbos were being cheated out of their rightful moneys," remarked Ena Ofugara.[42]

Laja Odukoya, a lecturer in political science at the University of Lagos, said the Biafran protests are a symptom of Nigeria’s economic problems.

[1]: In majority of these states, infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity are lacking along with medical care and education, as they affirm that even Igbo People have been denied senior political posts such as the Presidency.

[34]: [1]: In many areas of the greater Njaba River, Imo River and upper Orashi River basins, the activities of oil companies have rendered drilling and treatment of water from bore-holes more cumbersome, costlier and unattractive.[43][44]:

PoliticsOpen Letter To Arewa Youths - Nnaji by xmich(op):
Dear AREWA youths,

Do you know why some of us don't blink anymore at the Boko haram activities and never talk about it?

I cannot be crying more than the bereaved. I cringe every time the "bomb goes boom" then I weep for the dead and move on.The Arewa youths are the most blank people I know. My apologies to the few sensible ones first of all if there are any.

Your number is being reduced drastically, under your watch Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen snatched the first and the fourth position as the most deadliest terror groups in the world. Everybody blames you. Everybody calls you names. Your daughters and children are either being used as bomb detonators or being decimated by bombs, you don't feel ashamed rather you are energized whenever you hear about BIAFRANS quest to break away from shackle called Nigeria.

Your region is blessed with so much vast land. You have the real gold in agriculture but your people are suffering most from malnutrition, when there is an outbreak of an epidemic it starts with you.

Your leaders have been in power for over 36 years since Nigeria was granted flag independent by her British creator, the Nigerian state is 55 years mind you yet you are the poorest region. You have children who wake up in the morning and hit the road to beg ,yet you are not ashamed. You wanted power so much. It has been given back to you. You have had it for six months now guess who is suffering most? You!. Have your ever asked you self why?

The rich among you are very rich and powerful from the money stolen from public treasury, they hand you peanuts and you prostrate for them. They dash you crumbs you rejoice and ready to carryout their instructions to attack anyone or group who speak against their evil. Out of your ignorant you sing praises and protect those who have impoverish you.

Ask those of your brothers who have left to BIAFRALAND to make a living why they never come home unless it is time to find a wife or do something else,They will confirm to you they discovered equity, fairness and motivation to be master of their own because we love liberty and freedom.

I can understand your natural system which is feudalism but in today's advance world you should strive to be self sufficient. In contrast Biafrans are naturally libertarian,we love freedom and independent that reason our continue existence with people who believe in feudalism in the same country with conflicting values is a very big threat to our continue existence.
That's one of the reasons we will do everything to restore our home land stolen from us when evil British created Nigeria. Mind you Nigeria wasn't created for you nor me,it was British business establishment,i wonder why many of you want to die defending what is alien to you.

You have never for one day risen in anger against the bastardization of your land. Your land is flowing with blood. Blood that will one day speak against you.

You have not asked yourself, why am I not as fearless as Biafrans who criticize their elders whenever we perceive them placing their interest against interest of the people. You see us attack our own and they shake in fear, you never speak against yours because you think it is their sole right to be powerful, while you remain impoverished.
Your fellow youths were blown to smithereens days ago because somebody was sharing ordinary five hundred naira, youths with potentials were killed. Why are you not angry?

I wonder why you never protested against injustices, poverty, neglect and senseless deaths in your land rather you are always prompt to hold meeting to issue senseless and ridiculous statements against Biafran youths who are simply asking for freedom of one of their own, perceived injustice in their land and the right for self determination under international law.

Not a bomb has been dropped, not a single bullet has been fired. That mammoth crowd has been protesting peacefully for three weeks now. Yet you with the Iroko tree in your eyes want to remove tiny grain of sand from Biafran eyes then you wonder why we always hold you in contempt and abhor any association with you. Ask yourself again what the oil has against water.

Wake up!!!! Do the right thing!!! Take the shackles off your feet!!!! Fight for your future!! Stand up for yourselves!!! Reclaim you ancient home, jettison this white-man enslavement called Nigeria so you could reason like human to build a future for your self and generation to come.

Nothing will ever improve in your lives if you continue to depend on Biafra oil field and gas because those fossil fuel do not build civilization rather your ability to use your brain.
Finally Biafrans youths will never compromise their resolve to restore her nation no matter what anybody does. Tell your Buhari to release our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu he kidnapped if not there is impending doom that will behalf the zoo and everyone will suffer the consequence.

PoliticsBiafra; If Yusuf Were Alive Today, There Could Have Probably Been An End To Bok by xmich(op): 8:09am On Nov 23, 2015
IGBO leader and a Board of Trustees (BoT) of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Rommy Ezeonwuka, has called on the Federal Government to be cautious in handling the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro-Biafran groups.

The Ogirisi Igbo urged the government not to repeat what happened to Yusuf Muhammed, self-styled leader and founder of Boko Haram with Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

“If Yusuf were alive today, there could have probably been an end to Boko Haram. Rather, Boko Haram is spreading because the leader that knows its secret code has been killed and no one knows how to decode it. Every activist has a special message from God. Asari Dokubo, Tompolo and others emerged to prove that the Niger Delta where Nigeria gets all its money has been denied its due. Today, Kanu is saying Igbo are being cheated and maltreated in a country where Igbo have shown so much love, being the only tribe that has put 90 percent of its investments outside its tribal land.

The message of Kanu and Dokubo are almost the same. Someone must rise to talk about the maltreatment and cheating on his people and that is what Kanu is doing. He never preached violence like some did.”

Ezeonwuka urged Ndigbo to unite with one voice and seek Kanu’s release. “Asking for his release does not mean I am encouraging him to go ahead for the actualisation of Biafra. My previous stand on Biafra is that every Igbo man is already a Biafran since May 1967 when General Odumegwu Ojukwu (retd) declared the Republic of Biafra.

PoliticsNorthern Group Calls For Dialogue Over Biafra by xmich(op): 10:30am On Nov 21, 2015
A group of Northern youths under the aegis of North-East Youths Peace Development Initiative, NEYPDI, yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government to dialogue with those agitating for Biafra, instead of applying force against them.
The National President, NEYPDI, Alhaji Kyari Idris Abubakar, in a statement said: “Like those of us who have been suffering from insurgency in the past years we would not hesitate to go against anything that would lead to violence in the country. FG should dialogue with the agitators and not force, as it is not the best approach in handling the matter.”The group also dissociates itself from the call for the Igbos in the north to vacate the area.

Abubakar expressed regret over the recent call for Igbos to move out of the north, adding that it was capable of generating tensions and possibly lead to violence. “I want to remind the group that we have northerners in the south-east and other parts of the country and if the threat is carried out, they would also be asked to move back to the north, the development that negates the principle of peaceful co-existence as a nation,” he said.

The youth leader also urged President Buhari and the Service Chiefs to step into the matter in order to avoid it from degenerating. According to Abubakar since the agitators of the sovereign state of Biafra did not enjoy the support of many Igbo leaders including the governors, there was no need for one to go as far as asking the Igbos to quit northern part of the country.

Abubakar who is also the leader of Lagos State chapter of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) further stated that the constitution of the country gives liberty to its citizens to choose any part of the country as residence. “The major task ahead of northern youths in the country is not for Igbos to quit the north but to join hands with the new government and Service Chiefs to end the ongoing insurgency in the region,” he said.

PoliticsDSS Deceived Abuja Federal High Court – Kanu’s Lawyer by xmich(op): 1:09pm On Nov 20, 2015
Ogechukwu Obetta is lawyer toNnamdi Kanu, Director of Radio Biafra and leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In this interview with Tim Tochukwu he tells how far the trial of his client has gone. He equally exposed how the Department of State Security (DSS) succeeded in lying to Federal High Court in Abuja, thereby obtaining a “Kangaroo” ex-parte motion against his client.

We just heard that the DSS secretly obtained a court order to detain Nnamdi Kanu for 90 days in order to investigate his case. Are you aware of this development? Is it true?

Yes, I am aware. I was the one that broke the news, because yesterday in the court the prosecutor served me a counter affidavit, and in that counter affidavit was an annexure, and that annexure was an order of Federal High Court, which he got through an ex-parte motion. It was an ex-parte motion permitting the DSS to detain Nnamdi Kanu for the next three months, to enable it to conclude what they said was an investigation of terrorism and terrorism financing. (The DSS obtained the ex-parte motion from Alfa Ademola’s court).

So what are your thoughts concerning the new DSS move?
