Please how can one integrate into their banking career with my bsc accounting, 2.5 yrs experience in banking...
I'm not a banker nor an ex-banker so I'm not too sure. However, I know they have several bank roles although you should be willing to start in entry level roles and grow subsequently.

There are also many bridging programmes run by non-profits and schools that help with the knowledge gap.

Hello, I studied bsc in finance. Will be coming to Canada for msc in finance, what's the finance market in Canada like..will I be able to get PR without ICAN?
Sure you will get PR without ICAN. I didn't use my ICAN to get PR. Finance is a booming market.

I think much also depends on your career choice. Alot of technical jobs prefer candidates trained at Canadian unis or colleges. Some provincial government cooperations, crown cooperations or engineering firms even prefer local graduates from a Uni/college in Alberta or Sask to a graduate from a uni in Ontario or Nova Scotia. However, some recuiters would not care and still invite a candidate for an interview. It's now left for the candidate to shine over others with local education and experience - This is the hard nut to crack. Your bridging programs and all other soft skills would be tested here as well as your knowledge.

The above example is for technical jobs (trades, technicians, technologists, engineers, etc). I can't say much for other careers.

Sometimes we just have to put ourselves in the shoes of the recruiter or better still hiring manager. They are humans and often times would prefer to go with a tested product than one that is not, especially if public safety is an issue.

For the lady asking about customer services, sales or teller jobs, a recruiter won't probably care where she got her education from. Alot of those jobs require only an high school certificate, good communication skills and passing basic security clearance. Going back to school won't be necessary for such jobs and many other similar jobs.
I guess you're right. My experience has been in finance.

A good school has all these especially those with a Co -Op program.
How about the year or years you stay in school? People have been getting good jobs without having to go back to school. Imagine someone has MBA, you still want to go back for MSc, it's redundant. Learning to be more Canadian is more important.

Soft skills is very important here. In an interview, it could be the differentiation. The ones using Canadian schools to screen out are usually smaller companies. Their main problem will be if you can fit in their team which is where you're soft skills training becomes important. Canadian experience is not Canadian job experience nor is it Canadian school experience, it's if you're Canadian job ready. One hurdle is getting the job, the next is keeping it by fitting in with the team.

Let me qualify my statement. People that already have good educational qualifications and know their stuff, don't need to go back to school. You need the right connections.

Hello house,

Please what's job opportunity like in Canada for bankers. I have 2 yrs experience in customer service and 2 yrs experience as a teller.

Thanks
Plenty bank jobs. You can start as customer service and then move up but learn Canadian communication techniques.

ACCES Employment also have a lot of programs for those from a banking background.

Serious? Why so? I just feel going to school to spend a year is a waste of time. She could get a job in 2-3 months Toronto if she starts searching from day 1.
Schooling is so overrated. Attending a settlement workshop is more beneficial. Especially if you're experienced. These days, employers hardly look at Canadian schooling like that. From the little I have seen in GTA.

Look for internships, mentoring programmes to help with networking, etc. The key is to know someone who can help you. Connect with as many recruiters online or on LinkedIn as you can. Send your Canadian style resume. Ensure you've done a job search type bridging programme to know how to answer Canadian style interview questions. That is, learn Canadian style communication techniques.

Most important is to be positive and always speak positively. They like hiring positive people.

The charges are for foreigners trying to enter Nigeria, with foreign passports and does not apply to Nigerians with Nigerian passports. sad So what is the problem? shocked A number of other countries charge similar fees for similar purposes, and many Nigerians gladly pay such fees at the entry point of those countries, without any murmuring or complaints. So why is everyone now complaining about NIS doing the same thing, a number of other nations have been doing for the past few years?

I have paid $45 USD for visa on arrival at the entry point of another African country before, and I witnessed many other travellers doing so freely, without any issue. But why is it that when it comes to our own shores, everyone complains without thinking? huh It is NOT by force to come to Naija, o!
After paying almost $200 for visa, you will land in Nigeria and be asked to pay a further $110? It's wrong. It should be strictly for those that need visa on arrival in Nigeria and should be based on what the home country charges not a blanket fee.

The result from Ontario's election is highly embarrassing for the Liberal party. It was a tsunami.
The Liberals are no longer a recognized party in Ontario. They did not meet the minimum number of seats to be still be officially recognized as a party. They are pretty much independents till the next elections.

Pls house how true is this as I am confused and don't want to waste money since our score can fetch us ita speedily.
There's an exam, CLB that you can do in Canada, it's free for New Canadians. They use it in a lot of bridging programs and it's valid for a year. Register with any settlement agency and they should help you out.

Hi Everyone, we received a request yesterday to submit our passport for COPR. We have 15 days from yesterday to forward the passports to ACCRA and our medicals will expire April 5th and we are require to be in Canada before that date. We submitted our application on the 18th of April, 2017.

Our worry now is that we are not sure our passports will be processed within this very short period and besides we are honestly not prepared to leave within this short notice. Truth be told, we had given up because it was taking forever for them to conclude the process and we committed ourselves to a whole lot of other things. My spouse is very engage with work at the moment and by virtue of his position at work, he will have to give at least 6 months notice prior resignation.

We intend to request for extension of our medicals validity or perhaps go for another medicals but we are not sure if it is possible and how to go about it. Our thought when we applied was that the visa will be approved within six months and that will give my spouse enough time to notify his employer.

Experts in the house, your guidance on how to handle the situation will be most appreciated.
How did you finally sort out your issue?

Hello @ XX01, Please I have less than 1 year's driving experience (10 months). Can I take the FRSC letter with me? Would it assist me in anyway or should i wait 2 months in Canada before requesting the FRSC letter from Nigeria? Please any advice would be appreciated.
I am not too sure it will help. You need at least 2 years to be able to take the G directly or 1 year to be able to take the G2 immediately. If you're already in Canada, you can't have 2 months from Nigeria. But try sha, anything can happen.

Ok Boss.

Thanks for the clarification.

It is safe to say that the FRSC driving experience letter may not worth the hassles.
In Ontario, it's more than worth the hassle. You don't spend money to take the G2 and then wait some months before taking the G. You take the G (full licence) test at once.

I seriously doubt it. Anyways, they collect the letter from you at the drive test location.

Hello Seniors,

This thread has been very helpful, many thanks to all the contributors.

I have received my ppr and sent my passport, awaiting COPR. Please I will appreciate answers to my questions below;

1. My child will be 4 in dec, I understand he is qualified for kindergarten. Please is there a fixed time he has to resume or can he just join anytime we arrive? We are thinking of leaving mid-september.

2. Are catholic schools totally free for kindergartners? We are not catholics though.

I'm sorry if these have been answered before now.

Thanks again.
You didn't mention which province you will be landing. Let me use Ontario to respond.

1. He can resume anytime. Even towards the end of the school year.

2. Catholic public schools are free. Don't know if they will make it compulsory to show a baptismal card.

Hello house,
Must my wife do her wes and ielts before I can create EE profile or be in the pool? I want to create EE profile because am going through MPNP, therefore no need for my wife for ielts and wes. Please, can anyone enlighten me on this. Thanks
If you're principal applicant, create your profile and then you add any other info. That's assuming you've done your own IELTS and ECA.

They wouldn't be qualified to come as a PR. It's easier to get a U.S. visiting visa than a PR here. Close to 500 illegal Nigerian immigrants crossed the border on Easter weekend. That's close to 500 Nigerians claiming refugee in 2 days.
Seems like the shortcut is working. 12,500 work permits?

Thanks for your response once more. Was wondering if I should prepare LOE for visa refusals & attach refusal letters? Are there other areas one would need LOE for?
Prepare LOE for any area that you don't want them to misunderstand. Include all info necessary. There's a Schedule A I think for those with visa refusals. You can search in this thread.

Please just a quick question
I have sufficient funds for POF in mutual fund. I have a letter from them. I have also got six month ave balance from my bank showing small funds. 100% POF will come from my mutual funds. I’m wondering if I still need to send an LOE stating my POF will be covered solely by my investment with Mutual funds??
It won't hurt. It's best to have a table of all your funds and clearly show the POF.

Something like:

LETTER OF EXPLANATION ON PROOF OF FUNDS

Funds from Fixed deposit. xxxxx NGN
Funds from Mutual Funds. xxxxx NGN
Funds from 25% Pension xxxxx NGN
Total Proof of funds. xxxxx NGN
Exchange Rate. x 280
Total Proof of funds in CAD. xxxxx CAD
Other monies 1 Bank. xxxxx NGN
2 Bank xxxxx NGN
Exchange Rate x280
Total Other Monies xxxxx CAD

Something like that. You can modify as you like to pass across your message clearly. The issue is for them not to miss anything or assume what is not your intention.
