source: http://www.switched.com/2008/05/29/google-maps-gets-enhanced/ Google Maps has well and truly established itself as the king of online mapping tools, and it's obvious its host, the king of search engines, isn't content to let the site rest on its laurels. The site has just added some new features, enabling you to view photos, videos, and Wikipedia entries of whatever location you're looking at. This is functionality they added to their Google Earth application last year, but that requires a desktop installation and isn't quite as quick to use as their web-based tool. Now, by clicking the "More" button on Google Maps, you can select to look at photos (which includes videos), and Wikipedia entries as well. They appear as thumbnails or little 'W' logos on the map. A click brings up the photo or an excerpt from the Wiki right there in the page, with of course links outward to view the full image or article. Finding videos is somewhat hit-or-miss, since they just look like photos, but the pictures at least are very useful -- if only for finding what that hotel you booked for your trip actually looks like. |
@alari I am sure that if I met you in person, I would probably go out with you and maybe even marry you. Having said that, let's be honest: wat is your assessment of this site? |
Who are the guys/gals to go to here? Who are the guys/gals on here with the solid advice and solutions? Who are the guys/gals on here with the years (not necessarily the sites) of experience that make them seasoned developers? I would love to know. I would love to exchange ideas with them. |
wow! what a thread. for it to go 2 pages in the first place baffles me. People are scratching their heads to come up with lucrative solutions online and we are arguing about links and MLM. Instead of talking about how to make our code better (code reviews, code compacting, etc) and our sites more interactive, we are talking about links and MLM. To throw in my own opinion if it counts for anything, these schemes (read, "legal scams") may or may not work. All I know is, slow and steady wins the race and the patient dog eats the fattest bone. Let's not let our economic situation drive us to do things we wouldn't normally do, all in the name of getting rich quick. wow! |
This is a cage fight. 5 of the meanest suckers on the planet. The winner is the last one standing in the ring. Here are the contestants: Scriptaculous, Prototype, MooTools, YUI, JQuery. Who wins? State your reasons. Let's get it cracking! |
simple: you want to spend money on licenses and software (and most importantly, have the money to do so)? dot net. r u an up and coming chap who has no money but have a wonderful idea that u really want to get out there? open source. |
first and foremost, you have 2 calls to branding.css. secondly, you have this in your leftnav.css file: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">take care of the above, then insert all ur css code on the page. once it works well, move them back to a css file. That should work. |
@RuuDie you are a bad mo fo |
wow, i wonder how much the "designer" was paid for this. 100% graphical page? the person should be rounded up and shot! |
i am so hooked with firebug and the mozilla web developer toolkit that I don't think i will look at the IE version. Besides, with mozilla's, the web developer toolkit has an inbuilt IE engine which means that I can launch IE all within FireFox and not even have to launch IE at all. woohoo! |
visit the apache tomcat site for downloading the server. as for jsp, google for tutorials. wait a minute. what framework (tiles, jsf, struts, etc) are you using? That will go a long way with respect to tutorials. Otherwise, you can just create a .jsp file and insert java code in it, which though bad, still works. |
@webjunior: you should have target browsers in mind. If you are develooping for say, a work place and they use a specific browser, then you code with that one in mind. Check your web logs to see where your visitors are coming from. then fine tune your site accordingly. Per your tabs, you probably could have done it a lil differently - cut the right corner and use that as a background for the LI then have the left corner and its background as part of say, an H1. Bottomline though, if you really want the help, you have to provide us with a url |
nice spin with respect to the design although i am not too sure i like the name, spittle? sounds yucky. |
u dont make money online. get that straight first and foremost. you build value online. if people like it and patronize it, then you proceed with making money. Never have as goal #1 of any site you design that you want to make money otherwise, you will be sorely disappointed. |
isnt this basically an example of sheep in wolve's clothing as in nairaland in another form? Where is the originality? |
listen to uspry1. spacer gifs r sooo 1990s. you should be coding with web standards in mind. Take advantage of CSS/XHTML and all they have to offer. I am contemplating proposing to the criminal courts at the hague that any designer who mentions spacer gif should be hung from the gonads. |
there is no industry charge. you set what you feel is right. if the client balks, you reduce and vice versa. Also, according to the law of economics, the higher the demand, the higher the price. As you get more popular and more and more people demand your time, it is only natural that your prices would go up as a result. Good luck. |
b/w google and apprenticeships, you should be good to go. |
@tundewoods By the way Google income is residual never depend on it as a source of living ?Here here. Well said. |
