PoliticsObasanjo: Greedy Chicken Farmer by yemmight(op): 6:28pm On Oct 16, 2007
For eight years, General Olusegun Obasanjo sustained a devilish desire to strengthen his own hand as a chicken farmer while exploiting the power of his office to mortally destroy his competitors and impoverish ordinary citizen.

Less than ten years ago, his poultry business was grasping for breath. The Owiwi commercial hatchery in Abeokuta was leased out as a result of his incarceration in jail. His farm at Oluyole in Ibadan was leased out to an Israeli firm. His chicken farm at Alomaja in Ibadan to Avian Specialties between 1993-2004

He employed all his power and might to place a ban on any importation of chicken and other related product to pave way for his products.

Obasanjo’s desire to be the richest farmer in the country is not in doubt. His government banned the importation of “grandparent stocks,” a variety of chickens, so much that his farm has the sole franchise for them. Obasanjo is the only one with authority to import and sell them to other poultry farmers in the country and his farm makes an average of N30 million a month or N360 million per year.

When he became President in 1999, Obasanjo could only boast of farms in Eruwa, Ota and the nondescript one on the Mambilla. By 2007, however, he has developed farms in Ibadan, Iseyin, Lanlate, Igbo Ora and Ibogun, each of which boasts many Chinese experts.

Apart from the President’s cattle ranch and hatchery at Igbo Ora, Oyo State, the biggest in Africa, he has big fish farms in Lanlate, Ota and a big poultry in Ibogun.

You will recall that Mr. Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, procured N200 million worth of day-old chicks for his controversial poultry projects from Obasanjo’s farm.

As if these are not enough, he forcefully acquired lands from owners for his selfish projects.

Given his multiple income streams, Obasanjo is guaranteed a lush life out of office. The only trouble is, many Nigerians have become poorer during his eight-year rule.

Almondjoy,

When you said if they dont fight the war who then fight. Don,t even compare the American troops in Iraq to that of Nigeria. If a Nigeria soldier dies in Dafur what benefit is he gets? We all all know how Americal Army is treated in adifficult time. What kind of kits do we have in Nigeria Army compare to that of US.

The last troops that left for Dafur after the incident were stranded at the Airport. That is where you begin to look at welfare of the Soilders.

The old man is so powerful that he ordered EKERIN chief to go and sit at back while he occupies his place in the front.   This is the man that is superior to him at the palace.

PoliticsPolice Recover Odua's Car From Adedibu by yemmight(op): 10:43am On Oct 15, 2007
One can not just stop thinking of how lawlessness has become part of our lives in this country. You can imagine a vehicle belonging to a Director of Odua’s Investment was forcibly taken away by Adedibus’ Boys at the praying ground.

A day after, it was it was recovered from Adedibu by policemen. However, you could have concluded that he be arrested for such offence, DCP in Oyo State said “you mean if your property is stolen and somehow it was recovered, you will you arrest the person that assisted you to find the stolen vehicle?

I hope one day someone will help in curbing the excesses of this man called ORISA MOLETE

am dissapointed @ poster, what aint right aint right no matter how helpful or how cheap it is, Its unsafe to eat from food vendors that can't be located easily, I guess its because of the environment,,,,

I am very disappoinment in you MP007.  It is unfortunate that this topic that have generated a lot of responses, positive/negative is what you are disappointed at.  You are saying its unsafe to eat from those pple.

These are food vendors with good environment, well built and decent.  Govt is driving them because they were illegal structure but not indecent.  However, for those of you that have responded against this.  You have forgotting that State Govt agents generate money legally from this shops.  This is where you and your government now calling illegal structure.  These are the shops that also observe Thursday 7-10 as sanitation.  And these activities are monitored by state govt.

For M007, I have worked in Fast food for 4 yrs plus and internally I know what issues were with quality of food being produced.  Even while I was there, I stil patronize vood vendors because of the quality of food.  On Marina Road, Island, you have a very big mamaput where you see more than 75% Bankers in that area eat.  One day and I know it will com quickly govt will demolish such a decent and you will you are disappointed in seeing people eating.  In summmary, I am really disappointed with your statement.

PoliticsKilling Of Nigerian Soldiers In Peacekeeping Missions: by yemmight(op): 10:03am On Oct 05, 2007
The recent killings of 10 solders in Sudan that involved 7 Nigerians solders raises another poor security of life of peacekeeping forces outside the country.

I don’t think Nigerian Govt is up to the task in providing enough kits for these solders, if it did, how come Sudanese rebels would not even think twice in attacking and kill up to 7 Nigerians? If they are stronger why can’t they tack other peacekeepers easily?

Though The President has described the killing as shocking & unacceptable. In my own view, The Solders should be withdrawn while investigation to the killings go on.
PoliticsOkonjo-iweala Becomes World Bank Md by yemmight(op): 9:24am On Oct 05, 2007
The number of Nigerian at World Bank keep increasing, Former Education Minister, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili is the bank's Vice President in charge of African while Iweala is the MD effective from December 1st.

With this appointment I guess it is a compensation for her since Obasanjo forced her out his govt. You will remember Ngozi helped lead the country's reform programme on issues of fiscal prudence, transparency of government accounts, good governance, and anti-corruption and despite all these, The former President forced her to leave.

Congratulation to our illustrious Daughter

My problem with your responses here is that you have not been able to proffer solution to some of the issues you raised. Now you just said that they should go to somewhere they can survive. Though God forbid you are our Governor, you will gladly address those affected people to go to where they can survive. Will you? Be reasonable and remorseful I beg.

Demolaf,

I am very sure those of you that parade yourself as well to be individuals are nothing but empty vessels. Now you have mentioned issue of prostitute as if you have not walked in their ways b4. Are prostitute not human being or can’t they leave responsible lives?. Let me tell you this, while police were busy arresting prostitutes, a member of Security Council constituted by Fashola control a big hotel that harbours prostitutes and such member was also part of decision to chase them out. Ask yourself is he fair to those that were arrested? And you will come here to parade yourselves as saints.

This is your post right? So if govt. dragged out traders from Awolowo market, does that justify their trading on the streets?

In one sentence please tell me where you want them to go, in one sentence or otherwise 4get about this discussion.

Unfortunately you and other people are those that do not even belong to Lagos. You guys don't even no Lagos. If you know Awolowo market you will not be saying occupants of such a market are illegal. Now govt sent them packing one day and they end up in the street. You guys don't even read the posts before you send yours.
PoliticsRe: Beautification Of Lagos: Pains & Losses Of Petty Traders by yemmight(op): 11:15am On Oct 03, 2007
You just said that reward wrong behaviour by providing them shop. You should be very reasonable in your responses. In a market, fenced like Awolowo that govt dragged them out without providing alternative, so those affected pple you want to call wrong behavior? I am very sure most shopping you do is by the road side becasue how many conducive market do we have in Lag. So you should have been arrested by now.
PoliticsRe: Beautification Of Lagos: Pains & Losses Of Petty Traders by yemmight(op): 10:40am On Oct 03, 2007
Topetope,

The only agreement I have in your posting is the fact that you are my fellow Man u. You said in your post that in yankee we don’t have shops like that. In that country it is not even meant to be in the first place.

You go to Oshodi railway line, Lagos State Govt now planning to dislodge those traders. Fine it’s good. Question I am asking is those thousands traders where do they go from there?

In a more decent and organized market like old Awolowo market, Mushin, govt woke up one day and promised the market people that they want to beautify the market and after rehabilitation they take over their shops, I tell you after completion, everybody was dragged out and the shop were placed on exorbitant prices. My mum was one of the victims of that exercise and up till now those shops are still empty because of the rate. If my mum had gotten no alternative at her residence where do u want her to? Some of them end up by the road side today.

You must agree with me that any sane human being won’t prefer to go to railway line to go and sell no. if by next week now they drag them out of that place another irresponsibility on the part of govt.

When you say right places, where are the right places? As a citicen am I suppose to create right place for myself or the govt? Before you can fully enforce ther order you must also provide a place.
PoliticsRe: Beautification Of Lagos: Pains & Losses Of Petty Traders by yemmight(op): 1:32pm On Oct 01, 2007
what we are saying is that even if govt fail to provide shops, they should be low and avoidable shops for those traders to carrying on with thier lives. They can even do it at installment pay level. What happen to those shops built by Govt in the past. Look at Awolowo market @ mushin. Govt pushed the traders out promising to only refurbish and they will be take over thier shops. After completion they place as high as 800k above i bet you up till now those shops are still empty. As I talk to you now, those traders recently pushed out just roam about the street. Honestly this is frustrating.
PoliticsBeautification Of Lagos: Pains & Losses Of Petty Traders by yemmight(op): 1:47pm On Sep 29, 2007
In recent time we have witnessed demolitions, harassment of small shop owners across Lagos. One will think that responsible government will make provisions for the affected shop owners before carrying out the exercise but opposite is the case of Lagos. Food vendors that render services for corporate people are not left out from this exercise. For people in my area we are forced to patronize Fast Food everyday and it cost more. I think we need to share our views on this.

The most annoying is the involvement of OBJ. He called 3 Govs and Etteh to Ota farm for a meeting. The stupid old man gave an instruction that all the PDP serving officers in the house must support Etteh or loose the Chairmanship or top positions they are occupying. That is own way of life. Very stupid human being.

Problem started when the Speaker, Hon. Patricia Etteh arrived the venue. One of the lawmakers spearheading the Etteh Must Go agitation, “Ole, Ole” (thief, thief).

Does she really deserve to go or is this still another game plan?
