I have been following this conversation and i have to agree with this guy, Whether we agree or not Foreign degrees open doors that OND/HND/BSc cannot open. It is after you have a foot through the door and you need to defend the degree with experience tand you can't hat you may now be on your own.

Baj,

As much as I appreciate your contribution, I have to disagree also with your comment on the doors that foreign degrees opens.   Let us get this clear, big organizations dont much rely on foreign degrees compare to foreign trainings.

On a Good day, an organization will prefer to employ HND/BSC with oversea trainings than to employ somebody with an oveasea degree.  We need to get this clear.   Oversea Training is quite different from a degree acquired from oveasea. From my experience for example, you cannot compare someone who has attended trainings with Sun, Cisco or other oversea trainings on IT to someone with just a degree from there.

As much as we appreciate comments here, everybody in the forum is ready to learn.

Dis Guy

You will agree with me that most companies in Nigeria now look for cheap Labour. Why I gave an example of OND was that a typical IT company will prefer to take an OND Computer Science + at 2-3 years experience b4 considering a fresher of Degree/HND. That is the fact I am telling you.

When you talk about future for the company, ordinarily some companies adopted system where they prune the number of old and experienced because at a period they may not be promoted because they have reached the peak level. This way the company still encourage low level experienced one.

These OND’s we are talking about proceed for the higher education in most organization that I have dealt with.

CareerRe: Human Resource Professionals: by yemmight(op): 2:54pm On Jan 04, 2008
Senetee,

What do you expect? Just like if you go to UK with Nigerian qualifications, you will always need to require UK qualifications also to secure better job.

We all need to know that there is difference between qualificatio and experience irrespective of schools, country. You will still have to get experience.

I am presently working as HR person in one of the leading ICT in the country. In the process of recruiting I have people with IT qualification from abroad but we cannot put them on the field without the supervisory of people from here. Honestly you can not compare someone that have done a lot of repairs, faces a lot of challenges, has fixed a lot of breakdown on his own with someone that is bringing higher qualifications from oversea or anywhere. I can even confirm to you that on OND with at least 3 years experience will do very well in the first instance with that guy that is coming from England.

So in HR, we always place priority on experience, prompt service delivery because there are some people of the outside that we cannot give excuses for our failures.

CareerRe: Human Resource Professionals: by yemmight(op): 1:11pm On Jan 04, 2008
As HR Professional, 1st Degree first experience is primary while Master is secondary. Even in Nigeria today, we have place a Master holder with no experience on the salary with someone who have much experience.

I think we need someone who can deliver on the job pronto. A master Degree holder with little or no experience will still come and learn on the job which employers dont always willing to accept.

So professionally, more experienced guy will still be an ideal person.

Ade

You will not need to blame Adeniyi because the guy is just "The Prisedent Dog". Do you remember Akin Osuntokun when he was working for OBJ. That guy bites anybody who goes against The President like they will never separate. I remember him very well also as a critics when he was with the Media. So I can,t blame Segun for his comments now.
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo's 8 Years Tenure Will Not Be Probed - Presidential Aide by yemmight(m): 10:17am On Jan 04, 2008
Honestly, as the political events keep happening in recent days here, it appears to me that this President cannot firmly take decision take may impact either negative or positive on this nation.

Look at the posting of Ribadu. I am almost certain that the posting is not his wish, and yet he allows it passed. When Obj was leaving he increased the fuel prices, if Yaradua can take his decision, such prices could be reversed that time. Among the people short listed to succeed Ribadu is an associate of Ibori. What do you think that person will do to Ibori? These and some other issues affecting this country that require someone that is firm is actually lacking in Yaradua.

Please don’t be surprised that this nation may as well be governed by the same bad elements as we have them in the past eight years.

I think for those people who argue that Lagos does not belong to Yoruba got it wrong.  Lagos state was a Yoruba and still, but the move to do activities in Yoruba Language is rather unfortunate.   Even with the present government we have other tribe that this same assembly members ratified their employment to serve Fashola.  If such Commissioners are invited to the house one day to appear, are they going to adopt Yoruba language?

PoliticsRe: Two Members of REP Have Collapse; One Dead by yemmight(m): 3:55pm On Oct 17, 2007
This is from PM News of today

The Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Aminu Safana from Katsina collapsed this morning in the wake of the commotion in the chambers of the House of Representatives. He did not survive it, even though he was rushed to the National Hospital in Abuja. House sources told P.M.News that Safana’s brother called to inform the House that his brother, a supporter of the embattled Speaker, Patricia Etteh, has passed on. The news of his death brought the chaotic proceedings in the house to an abrupt end.

To the surprise of many members, the speaker did not betray any emotion as she struck the gavel to bring proceedings to a halt. It was the third death of members to be recorded since the crisis over the N628million house renovation scandal broke.

For the second day running, it was another round of commotion in the House as lawmakers opposed to the Speaker’s desire to preside over the session rose stoutly against her.

Following the adjournment of sitting yesterday, the House had planned to commence business this morning, but by 10.55 a.m. when the Speaker, Patricia Etteh, walked into the chambers, the House was thrown into confusion.

As she walked in, the usual shouts of Madam Speaker, by the officials and sergeant-at-arms which normally heralded the coming of the presiding officer for the day (speaker or deputy speaker) was not heard. In its place, shouts of, “Etteh, ole, ole” rent the air.

Before the Speaker came in, members from opposing camps had been collecting signatures.

As she strolled in through the aisle, members of the opposing camp blocked her way but this was resisted by her supporters. In the ensuing confrontation, Etteh was prevented from proceeding to her seat.

After about three minutes of waiting, and surrounded by her supporters and the sergeant-at-arms, she eventually went to her seat. But the shouting persisted and this threw the House into pandemonium.

No prayer was said, neither was there any official resumption of sitting for the day.

The anti-Etteh lawmakers were seen brandishing the national flag while the pro-Etteh group waved white handkerchiefs in the air. Both camps chanted solidarity songs and moved round the chambers. While the anti-Etteh group chanted Etteh Must Go, the pro-Etteh group sang Etteh Must Stay, E wo won, E wo won bi won se n wo wa. The anti-Etteh group sang Ole, ole, ole.

At about 11.48 a.m. when the Minority Leader of the House and member of the anti-Etteh group, Ali Ndume, attempted to address the House by climbing on the table, another member, Hon. Daniel Dino Melaye, chairman of the Information Committee, shouted him down.

Members also had problems trying to prevent a fight between Hon Independence Ogunewe and another member. Officials and the sergeant-at-arms had a hectic time controlling the crowd that thronged the House.

As at press time, the House was still in commotion, with no order in sight.

To entertain his colleagues, a member of the House, Major Eze, also turned on the microphone and activated the musical device on his GSM phone.

Meanwhile, the Action Congress governorship candidate for Edo State and former NLC president, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has threatened to mobilise workers to chase out Madam Speaker from her exalted seat if she failed to resign honourably.

Oshiomhole was among those in the gallery watching proceedings this morning.

He was also there yesterday.

Honestly these stories we hear everyday are very annoying. Pple are struggling to survive on daily basis and useless leaders are busy saphony the money upp there. I dont even know how much it will cost to build a whole house that 400m and 628m be used for renovation. We are still not through with Etteh his Brother is coming up. I strongly believe that revolution will come intom play in this country one day.

We will not let go of him. Infact we shall not go to bed with our 2 eyes closed on him. If we allow him go he will still continue his doing his evil right from Ota. If we have allowed him go, he would have had his ways in Etteh's case long ago. All eyes must be on this evil man.
