SECURITY ADVISORY


The attention of all is drawn to the growing incidence of highway robberies in Lagos metropolis and its environs, most especially around Dolphin and Ilubirin area of Ikoyi/Third Mainland Bridge, Ketu-Alapere-7Up axis, CMS Bus stop and Apongbon area of Lagos.

It has been established that during peak traffic periods in the evening in the areas mentioned above, hoodlums always:

• Go about on motor bikes (Okada) at the crest of the bridge linking Dolphin-Ilubirin-Third Mainland Bridge with a view to attacking motorists as they approach the bridge during traffic hold-ups in the area.

•Patrol/loiter around on foot on the bridge and at Bus stops with a view to attacking unsuspecting motorists/passers-by during peak traffic periods and hold-ups.

The time of attack varies, but normally between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm when workers are rushing to their various homes after close of work, thereby creating traffic bottle-necks.

Employees are therefore, advised to observe the following Security precautionary measures from now on:

Going Home

Avoid the entire Dolphin-Ilubirin stretch from 7.00 pm until when the traffic is light and when you can go at a reasonable/maximum speed around the area.

Coming To Work

Avoid climbing the connecting bridge to Ikoyi from Third-Mainland Bridge in the morning up to 7.00 am. Link Ikoyi through Obalende via Awolowo Road to Falomo

Please find below some checklist for vehicle/travel security, which should be noted and adhered to very carefully.

Vehicle/Travel Security

1. Lock all car doors and windows when driving.

2. Do not leave office at the same time everyday – vary the routine.

3. Use many alternate routes of travel to your normal destinations, particularly if you
leave in down-town Lagos.

4. If your car is lightly hit, either from the rear or from the side, do not stop immediately –
it could be a ruse by robbers to get you and snatch your car.

5. Do not stop to render any assistance in an apparent crash or auto accident, even If it
looks real.

6. Always keep sufficient fuel level in your car.

7. When driving, be alert to all activities on the road, front and rear. Be well focused.

8. Watch out for someone trailing your car and if you think you are being followed, drive
to the nearest Police Station but avoid driving home straight.

9. Avoid giving lifts to unknown persons; you may loose your car or life if you do.

10. Do not expose brief cases, handbags and other valuables on the car seat while driving
as this could attract robbers. Robbers may deliberately hit your car to get these
valuables

11. If your car has a flat tyre, stop at any area you consider being SAFE before you change
the tyres because armed robbers in pretext that they are LASTMA officials now tow
their victims’ vehicles to an unknown destination.

12. Do not stop if any pedestrian tells you that you have a flat tyre, engine is leaking etc. It
could be a device to stop you and attack you.

1. SALES EXECUTIVES

"Office romances are fairly common these days because the office is where we spend so much of our time. Handled well an office romance can lead to a relationship. Handled badly it can lead to a lawsuit for harassment"

This is most common issue in most of the organization. At one point or other every HR would come across this issue.

Its not too serious and not to worry as long as it does not affects the productivity. Its good to have some interesting stories in office then regular worksmiley just on the lighter side,

If it is affecting productivity, you will have to take some steps and measures towards it.

Things you could do;
1. Counselling - Talk to them and make sure they understand their responsibilies at work
2. Change - Try to move them to another department or place, You are doing this only if they are too much into discussion or arguments affecting people around them and work
3. Be open - Talk to your team and get to know what they think. If you are having too many complaints from other employees, then you will have to incorporate some new rules into your HR policies.
4. Be strict - If you have any employee harassing another employee you could take serious steps.
