1kinggy: I've been in and out of this name for some time I've always made money from it. I bought it when it was $73 because I knew they would benefit from a push for contactless payments during the pandemic, but I chickened out and sold at $81 when an analyst downgraded the stock. I know better to take analyst recommendations with a grain of salt but I was compelled to sell it because several times in Square's (SQ) history, whenever you think it will propel towards the $100 range, it sells off. So I thought that will be the case this time around but I was wrong. I still like the stock but it has run up too fast, maybe wait for a pull back for a better entry point.

mission08: I feel your pain. A lot of people got in during the ATH in 2017 and many were left holding the bag. I started buying bitcoin and the popular alts in 2013, then BTC was about $300 and I thought it was expensive for a virtual currency not back by any asset. I traded it then, and was surprisingly very good at predicting the price movements (you can check out my old posts). Not to make this a long post, I'm basically a hodler now. I buy a small amount every month or when there's a huge selloff. Just like you, I got burnt buying into ICOs many of which became pump & dump schemes, but funny enough I still have some of those useless alts still sitting in my Binance wallet that I haven't checked in years. I cannot recommend any of the alts you mentioned as I haven't read their white papers or have forgotten what makes them unique. I bought Neo during the hype, I thought it was innovative but these days, I don't follow crypto news anymore but I still buy BTC. I also use BTC for remittance; when people in the US want to send money back home to naija, I'm able to offer them rates close to black market rates without any restrictions. I will look into the alts you mentioned when I'm chanced, but I still think it's a good idea investing a small portion of your net worth into crypto as no one knows what will become of fiat money in the future. 8 Likes |

1kinggy: Absolutely, a little bit of luck plays a role. Imagine you buy high quality stocks today and tomorrow Russia attacks a NATO ally; it's safe to say the market will sell off. These are inherent risks that comes with investing. Long term investors will still have ample time to recover their loss but if it's a speculative trade like the short dated call option, its toast. The most important thing is having a higher win to loss ratio over a long period of time and that's not just pure luck. I'm glad I slept off Friday morning, it was a bloodbath I didn't want to witness. EBAY, FSLY & DOCU saved me though. 3 Likes 1 Share |

seyisanya: You are right. There's a a method to the madness. But you know even after researching, identifying a trend and buying a stock, the market has a mind of it's own. For example, Docusign (DOCU) the company that enables paperless contracts has been on a tear since the pandemic. The stock caught my eyes in the $70s but I was waiting on the sidelines thinking it will sell off at some point as the valuation was over stretched. The stock has rallied without retreat to $177 today. It caught my attention again after I recently signed two different contracts for two different companies using Docusign. So it clearly means that they must have the lion share of the paperless contract business and quite frankly I don't even know of any other alternative. With the explosion of new coronavirus infections in Texas and Florida I was looking for more companies that thrived and will continue to thrive during the pandemic. So on wednesday when DOCU fell about 4% from its intraday high, I pounced on it and bought the June 26th call options with a $170 strike price. I'm not sure how much you know about options but the closer the expiration date, the riskier the option trade. With just 2 days to expiration, you will almost need a miracle for the stock to move as high as you want it or the call option will expire worthless. On friday morning at market open, I was down 60%; I could've closed my position for a 60% loss and moved on, but this was a speculative trade, almost like a lottery ticket; my plan was to hold till expiration, whatever happens. I fell asleep and woke up later to see that the stock rallied later in the day and the call option gained 430% or or $2981. So it's not just pure luck, but sometimes you still need the stars to align in your favor. The most important thing about investing is risk management. Diversifying your portfolio, cutting your loss and only opening positions that make up a small percentage of your overall capital. If you have only $1000 to invest for example, maybe buy stocks in 10 different companies with an average allocation of $100 for each company, then set your max loss at 15% for each position. This way that 15% loss will only amount to 1.5% of your entire portfolio. A lot of new investors want to do YOLO trades so they allocate a large portion of their networth on one trade and when the market sells off, they get wiped out. I've just been so busy lately, I barely have time to even post here, but will continue doing my best. More wins for us all!! 11 Likes

afroxyz: I like Spotify (SPOT). After signing heavy hitters like Howard Stern, Joe Roegan and now Kim Kardashian, I strongly believe this is a streaming platform worh big goals. The makeup company COTY signed a Kardashian and the stock has been on a rocket launch since then. I don't know if and when momentum will slow down for this stock but I'm about to FOMO into it with a small position. |

sharpman1: Basically when the market was spooked last week with reports of increasing corona virus cases in some states, I had the hunch we may be having a 2nd wave or a continuation of the 1st wave so I bought call options in ETSY, ZM, APT, PTON, LVGO, EBAY and SLV. In a nut shell, If the stock goes up, the options trade goes up incrementally. They must stay above their strike price before expiration, if they sell off, I can lose 100% of the money I spent buying those call options. Currently up about $10k from these trades alone. 1 Like |
