At 17, you are already well above your peers. If you start now and stay the course, your money will grow by compounding and you will be financially independent before you know it.

Start small and limit speculative trades. I would've suggested you avoid speculative trades completely but the truth is, at your age, even if you lose money in risky trades, you have your whole life ahead of you to make up for it. So what will I suggest? 90% of your portfolio should be in high growth stocks but in diversified sectors. The remaining 10% can be invested in micro caps, disruptor stocks(marijuana, biotech, 5G etc) and crypto.

Read books about investing, so many people have made suggestions on this thread. Visit investopedia, yahoo finance and cnbc. Keep conservative expectations, don't expect to get rich quick, this way you wouldn't be so disappointed if you lose money. At your age, I was a complete game freak, but I have no complaints, I used to make high scores and thrash my friends, you will need to have the same passion for investing in stocks. You will need to live and breathe this stuff. When you have a crazy impulsive idea, first test it out on a demo account and learn from the experience.

I hope one day you look back to where your journey started and smile at your investment portfolio. Good luck.

COVID related trades printing today

How far this news pushes the stock we can't tell but if it repeats its behaviour between October 2019 and Jan/Feb 2020, SPCE will make some people some near term bucks.

Your SPCE call made me some money before. Lemme follow this stock again, it's been bouncing between $15 and $20 for some time now

Just look for a dominant stock or large moat, you have killed the market oooo... I did not know shishi before i started investing but i just dumped my money in United Capital[ the only investment bank in NSE]..since then na big big dividend dey follow

I have a friend who only invests in 4 or 5 stocks and he has outperformed the market every year. He invests in high growth stocks like Amazon, tesla and co.

I've found out that it's really important to know what point to enter a stock based on the charts so as to understand what is happening with it, and not to enter a stock on its way down as I did sometimes ago.

The COVID trades are back on the menu.

Got into PTON and ZM last week the market sold off due to the fear of a 2nd wave of the corona virus. Got into ETSY and APT today.

Long term investors still holding airlines, cruislines, retailers etc should continue buying the dip.

Now my Tesla story.
I bought Tesla $711.53 on 2nd March 2020 to trade it at the slightest $100 gain.
Along the line, I decided I will hold long term.

After weeks of rigmarole, it shot up to $814.42 on 20th May 2020 and I sold happily with a $950 gain, forgetting my last decision to hold long term.

Behold, 20 days after, I mean just yesterday, Tesla popped $1,025/share. My $950 gain would have been a $2,910 (N1,309,500.00) gain if I had been patient for only 20 days!

Now am going to have to experience a long wait for a pullback/crash to buy back if it falls under $900 for my long term holding.

I don't think it's Trove's fault. Around 9:28am
just before the market opened, Chesapeake (CHK) had news pending. Usually when a company has important news that will cause volatility in the stock price, it is halted. The news was about how CHK will file for bankruptcy. Usually when the stock is halted, nobody can buy or sell and each hold period is for like 15 minutes. Once trading resumes volatility is signigicantly high, it is immediately halted again. So you see, investors were trying so hard to sell so they wouldnt be the one left holding the bag. I attached screenshots.

This is the reason why I warned against this stock yesterday. They were discussing bankruptcy plans back in May11th, yet, the stock rose over 530% since then. Now the bubble has burst, everyone is in a panic mode to sell. I hope your sell order is executed tomorrow but if the stock is halted all day like today, it may be a blood bath.

Market is taking a breather after consecutive gains. I like tech here though, that sector hasn't really particiapted in the recent rally.

He certainly did. Again I won't even touch it at these levels but if it drops hard any time soon, I will open a small position with a wide trailing sell order. These moves make no logical sense but they also provide trading opportunities.

Some of the moves we see defy logic but the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain liquid. Don't get too greedy and try not to force anything, if opportunities present themselves, take it but be cautious. The short squeeze we are seeing in some names are just mesmerising. Take Chesapeake (CHK) for example, on May11th, the company was discussing bankruptcy, the stock traded around the $10-$12 range but today its trading at $63, that's over 530%. If you see the image I attached, over 35% of the stock was being shorted as of last month, but today it's risen over 150%. Again the shorts are covering mixed with the believe that reopening the economy will increase demand for oil.

Look at Hertz (HTZ) the car rental company that declared bankruptcy on May 22nd, the stock dropped from $2.84 to $0.55 or 80%. As of last month, there was a 46% short interest in the stock. But the stock is trading at $5.69 today which is 934% from the bankruptcy low, it is now trading higher than the day they announced bankruptcy. Again, short squeeze mixed with investors counting on reopening the economy.

These are explosive moves, just look at NKLA and
PYX as other examples. Even as irrational as it is, I will also partake in buying stocks like these, setting a trailing sell stop order of like 15% -20% to allow me capture as much gains as possible while also having a safety net to take me out once the algos and big boys pull out.

You know what's up. The feds are really pumping the stock market. I've fetched my bucket in some really over extended names and I'm trimming some today. But overall still holding long even tech that hasn't really participated. Constantly scouting for quick scalps though, if these stocks take a breather, I buy the dip. Short term the momentum is still up, no sell resistance nearby, just volatility.

ADT reported earnings yesterday. Sales beat but they reported a loss. This is a small position and I'm up 33% but I plan to hold as this stock is still undervalued.

With the recent unrest, riots and protests in the U.S, it is safe to assume that more homes and businesses will be signing up for monitored security and this is the perfect company for it (ADT). I'm up 100% and plan to hold.
