manchy7531: I fear igbo NLers these days, they give it to you dirty as you want it......i guess they are the wrongest set of people to pick an online warfare with cos they are everywhere in Nigeria which is an advantage for them over every other Nigerians which means they can easily defend and attack any region picture for picture, couple with the fact that they seem more organized on NL than any other group. Yoruba should stop all this online warfare with igbos, it wont pay them......

Every believe that i have had of the yorubas in the past has changed, thanks to NL. The igbos seem to even be better off both socially, economically, educationally, infra structurally and i dare say culturally.

the yorubas only live on propaganda which has been their hallmark.that is why they get jittery when the igbos post picture the yorubas will not post of themselves, because it is in sharp contrast to their self acclaimed sophisticated, civilized and educated people with high standard of living.

Even if at all they were ahead of the igbos at the post civil war era, how come they have not been able to capitalize on the gains they made. The igbos are aggressively coming back to reclaiming their lost position as the most progressive Nigerians.

I think the yorubas need to sit down and ask themselves question cos these online fight with the igbos will not do them any good. it will only increase their frustration...the igbos have not produced the president of Nigeria yet they are doing great and better than other regions, now imagine when the presidency eventually gets to themhuh then you begin to ask what have the yorubas gain with OBJ and shonekan leadership......and for those who like to threaten igbos with presidency note it that so long as an igboman will not be president, a yoruba man will never occupy that sit until after the igbos have produced theirs hence we are mutually woven

One thing i have noticed about the igbos is that the maximize every opportunity given to them to help themselves and their kinsmen yet people say they are not united, i just smile. they mistake republicanism for disunity...

i have long quit making tribal comment and i hope am not pushed but really Yoruba need to talk to themselves...

i expect yoruba to be opening threads that promote their culture, their strength and the good side of them which is what the igbos do, they tell you answers to questions about them, they tell you about their ability to turn their a sleepy town to a business hub, they tell you about how they fought gallantly during the civil war and how the were able to develop weapons that sustained them, they talk about how much they have been able to achieve post civil war, they are proud of themselves and in all honesty they have every reasons to be proud. even among themselves they quarrel(Chino Vs Abagworo)....they talk about themselves. You wonder why ENUGU thread is still active?its because the igbos are more organized .....that is why you see threads like eze ndiigbo nairaland, umuada Nairaland etc.it show they are proud of themselves, their culture and there creation.

They open threads that promote themselves which attract envy from idea, lazy and people who have nothing to be proud of.I wonder why others cant organise themselves and do the same.

i expect the Yoruba to do the same...I can remember how the Ibadan thread brought some sigh of relief to the Yoruba because it took them along time to change the impression of Ibadan as a total slum and i encourage Yoruba to do more of that and not to come to igbo thread to tell them they are chest-beaters.......it is he who has nothing to be proud of that stalk others only to end up envying that person and feel threatened by that person's success and also it is a sign of inferiority complex.

God in my next world i don't want to be Jew, I want to be IGBO

Bank deposits hit N6.7tr Soludo
By Emmanuel Obe, Onitsha
Published: Saturday, 16 Aug 2008
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof.
Chukwuma Soludo, on Friday put bank deposits in
Nigerian banks at N6.7 trillion.

CBN Governor, Prof. Chukwuma S
Soludo, who spoke in Onitsha, Anambra State, at
the inauguration of the Entrepreneurial
Development Centre, said the figure jumped from
N1.2tr in 2003, the total deposits before the
successful consolidation of the banking sector.
The Director of the EDC, Prof. Alex Ikeme, said
the centre was conceived to create an
entrepreneurial Nigerian workforce in order to
liberate the economy from total dependence on
government.
He identified poor quality graduates, weakness of
industrial working experience and lack of
entrepreneurial spirit among Nigerian graduates
as factors that had made them unemployable.
Soludo said the number of depositors with
Nigerian banks rose from 13 million in 2003 to 25
million in the post-consolidation period.
He noted that confidence in the banking sector
had risen with the sector dominating 75 per cent
of the capital market, which remains the fastest
growing in Africa. According to him, "We are
encouraged to be ambitious to become the hub of
African business by 2020."
But he said the Nigerian banking public was yet
to take advantage of the benefits in the sector,
noting that 50 per cent of them were yet to
access public finance.
He said that was why micro-finance banks were
being encouraged to grow and reach the millions
of ordinary people who require credit for their
businesses. Soludo said at the last count, 760
micro-finance banks had been licenced, with 20
awaiting approval. According to him, Anambra
State has about 80 micro-finance banks, making
it second to Lagos.
He, however, stated that the micro-finance
operators and their customers would need to be
trained on special skills to make optimum use of
their services. He said the Central Bank initiated
the EDC because "it wants finance to work for the
poor" and recommended the programme to states
and local governments. The Onitsha centre is
being implemented by the University of Nigeria
while there are two others in Kano and Lagos.

The programme was attended by the Anambra
State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, and officials of Imo
and Delta states.

CBN Ranks Anambra Third in Deposit
Mobilisation
Central Bank of Nigeria
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has rated the
economy of Anambra as among the strongest in
the country.
The Branch Manager of the bank in Awka, Mr
Okoro Azubuike, announced the rating in Awka on
Thursday when he received the Minister of
Information, Mr Labaran Maku, who was on good
governance tour of the state.
Azubuike said the deposit mobilisation on the
state was third in the country behind Lagos and
Kano, while it ranked fourth in terms of the
presence of commercial and micro-finance banks.
He said the commercial cities of Onitsha and
Nnewi were large and had made the state the
commercial base of the South-east region.
In his remarks, Governor Peter Obi said the bank
was crucial to the commercial activities of the
state, adding that the government had resolved to
fast track the construction of its permanent.

gbosaa: meant nkwelle ezunaka..not owelle ezukala which is in Aguata

I hope the project isnt going to be another elephant project,i have family and friends at Onitsha so i know the city more than you think.
If we need the presence of the Army and navy for security in Onitsha then it tells a lot.I know i would be speaking the minds of a lot of people there,if i say they need projects that will impact more on their lives,if the govt cant provide employment for their teeming population,at least they owe them the responsibility of providing good access roads, water etc.

There are lots of people who want to acquire lands for the building of either commercial properties or their dream homes but its quite challenging getting a reliable and trouble free lands, those people relocate to Asaba and are still moving en masse..reason is because it is less complicated to do that in Delta state.

Im not taking anything away from Anambra govt,i wish them well and hope they deliver but i wont start jumping and punching my fist in the air everytime there is some news about govt and unreliable politicians trying to deceive us with their endless promises and substandard projects.

There was such news about the Nigeria Army wanting to build a hotel in Enugu and people were celebrating like Enugu won the right host olympics.
Again you've never crossed the Niger but know so well how onitsha runs.People moving into Asaba did mainly because security used to be better but that flow has reduced. Have you ever been to Obosi, 3-3, Ogbunike, Nkpor etc to see what's going on there and who ever told you getting land within Greater Onitsha is complicated? The naval base is at Odekpe and not onitsha.

At least you now agree that forcemen, their families and relatives contribute one way or another to an economy.

gbosaa: Onitsha people and people of Anambra wont benefit from that project,we should not be celebrating things like that, yes the guy you quoted asked one question...What is the economic significance of building a navy barrack in Onitsha?..it can only create temporary jobs for labourers during the construction stage and after that..huh

Onitsha has a military barrack already and the residents of that barrack with the nigerian police have been more of a liability to Onitsha people, ask people living in that city..police love onitsha cos they make a hell of money there before they either retire or go on transfer same with some of the military guys there.
lOnitsha is congested,i expected to see the govt use that land to decongest the city,an almost 1000 unit of houses would go a long way to solving that problem.;

There are lots of land disputes around nsugbe and owelle ezukala, most people are moving to asaba cos of that,i know few friends who bought lands and built at asaba.lots more are migrating.

Onitsha is a self made town, the people are self
employed and successful, all they want is amenities...let govt provide lands, access roads, water with strict regulation on the buildings...a lot of people would want to build 5 story buildings where duplexes are meant to be.
k
Onitsha do not need the presence of Navy and theiri barracks.
Do you live in Onitsha to know all these, the Army and police barracks you sited have people who wouldn't have been in the city if those barracks weren't sited in Onitsha. They buy goods and sevices thereby contributing to the economy of the city.
Onitsha residents had never complained to you they have a problem with 5 storey building and if you need a duplex, GRA and other choice areas are there. And where the hell is owelle ezukala in Anambra?
Obviously, you've never crossed the Niger bridge but an expert on how the city runs.
