From experience, i can tell you that first timers to SA are sometimes subjected to harassment by immigration officials in Naija just to make u settle them with some cash. Hence, i will advise that you still hold some cash as proof of funds in addition to the debit card just to avoid their wahala and be very confident & smart. No matter what, don't give them a dime. However, you will not be subjected to any form of harassment in SA provided you have a valid hotel booking or other arrangements for accommodation. All the best
godownson:
Do you mean naija immigration or south african immigration?.
What if a traveler decides to carry a debit card with enough funds in it instead of cash (as BTA), will the immigration be okay with that?.

Thanks for sharing bro, it is well. May God always protect us all ( Amen).
Shine1177:
To our brothers and sisters in South Africa, please let us be careful when walking alone on the street, especially in the night. Today, after our Mid-week Communion Service at about 7:45pm I was attacked by three (3) street boys few metres from church. They initially begged me for money which i decline, the next thing, one of them drag my shirt and brought out a knife to stab me while he spoke Zulu to the rest to search me. I pushed him off and started barking at them, so they took off. There was no loss of property nor harm on me. I thank God.

This is the second attack since i came here. Durban to be precise. Few months ago, I went to withdraw at Standard bank ATM in front of my campus where I fell to card swap scam (i don't know how), something that I never experience all my life in Nigeria. I lost R1700 in that incident, it was later I learnt that those devils prowl at all ATM with less traffic. After that incidence, some Nigerians started telling stories of how they lost money, some R4000 etc. at the same machine to those bad boys. If they had shared their experiences before, I wouldn't have fall a victim. I hope this will guide a brother or sister out there.

Any amount from 450k upwards will be fine. However, it is equally important to ensure that your account has a good turnover too (i.e Funds come in and go out). For a visitors visa, you need the following docs:

1) International passport
2) Completed visa application form with two passport photographs (White background)
3) Yellow card
4) Letter of Introduction from employer or Self letter of introduction if you are self employed
5) Bank Statement
6) Pay slips
7) Valid hotel booking
cool Flight reservation
9) Visa application fees
10)Copy of work ID card
You can also include any other supporting documents you have (if any) to boost your chances. All the best.

please,I need to know the requirements for SA visa.

How much do I need to have as a statement of account?

please I need answers. Thanks

The nature of your job or place of work does not affect your application in this case. Hence, being a civil servant poses no threat at all. Just ensure you have the following docs in place to apply: Valid hotel booking, flight reservation, yellow card, bank statement, letter of introduction from employer, pay slips, copy of marriage certificate (if you are married), visa application fees, Duly completed visitors visa application form with 2 passport photographs. All the best

Please I will need a guide on how the trip can go fine. As I will appreciate advice of matured and experienced pole in d house.thanks
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 8:10pm On Oct 26, 2015
Yes, you will need a hotel booking for him too as well as flight reservation and yellow card.

Either you or your parents can sponsor him although your parents might be preferable for obvious reasons. In any case, let whoever is sponsoring him write a letter of introduction stating their relationship to him and readiness to sponsor his trip & also attach bank statement. Since he is an undergraduate, a letter from his school and copy of school ID card will add more bite to the application and increase his chances. All the best

Hello All,
I came across this thread some weeks back, went through every details and proceeded to apply for a visitors visa. I applied on the 15th and by 22nd my application was ready for collection.
It came out successful.
My family is requesting my younger brother goes with me. The challenge now is how do I proceed with his application? He is a 300l undergraduate student.
I used my account of about 600k in applying.
Can I still use that same account, will my parents account work for him, will I need a new hotel reservation?
Thanks

@Sovpounds: You suppose bag title for Capetown as u don tour everywhere finish sef...lol. Hope you really enjoyed your stay sha.. All the best
sovpounds:
I am just reading this cos i have been busy exploring Cape Town. You would definitely get a European match in Cape Town. Lots of whites fly into Cape Town all the way from Europe for holiday. On my flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town the plane was a massive A340 and it was full to the brim and it was dominated by Europeans who flew from Europe. The man sitting on my left on the plane flew from London while the girl on my right flew 21 hours on 4 different flights to get to Cape Town. If Europeans can descend on Cape Town in their thousands for holiday you should know there is something special here that they cant get in Europe. Yesterday as I was having breakfast in the restaurant in my hotel a Nigerian approached me and asked me if I was a Nigerian and I said Yes, we started talking and he told me he came to South Africa from Nigeria in 1996 and moved to the United States after 10 years in 2006 after some years he left the United States and returned to South Africa. This shows that there is some thing special here. And from what I have discovered in the one week i've been here is that Cape Town has good infrastructure coupled with natural beauty (the table mountain and the other mountains) that cant be replicated anywhere.

Yesterday i went on the city bus tour on the red open roof double decker bus and we passed through Table Mountain, Camps Bay, Clifton, Bantry Bay, Sea Point, Green Point, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront popularly called V & A Waterfront.

Watch out for the beautiful beaches at Camps Bay and Clifton and try the Cable Car ride to the top of the most popular landmark in Cape Town, the Table Mountain (although i didnt do the ride because visibility was zero yesterday).

So dont worry about the European experience cos you would get it. Even the weather here is as cold as Europe. What you should be bothered about is whether the city would not distract you from your Ph D programme. grin

If you truly intend to stay in the hotel for the entire duration of your stay, i will advise you to pay for the number of days you are staying and save yourself unnecessary questioning at the point of entry.

It really makes no difference if you pay for 1 or 2 days now knowing fully well that you will eventually pay for the remaining days upon getting to SA unless you have other alternative plans for accommodation.

pls I have already got my Sa Visa bought my ticket too. pls I'm confused as to making hotel reservation and cos someone told me I have to pay cash as I could be disallowed at the point of entry if I did not pay for the hotel reservation in Sa. pls do advice me. thank you.

Now i get your point. Repatriation fee has been cancelled since last year April. Infact, i didn't have to pay a dime for repatriation when i did mine last yr. All the best bro.
Keneking:
Mean you are the best...abeg go Canal Walk (Mr Price shop), pick any jeans of your size, I pay when I conclude the process grin

- payment of deposit: the high commission demands repatriation deposits just in case or a letter of guarantee from your government. What is this deposit amount?

Keneking:
Gentlemen, i really appreciate the response(s) provided so far with respect to study visa........can someone assist for PhD application at UCT.

I need some clarifications:

- police clearance certificate: can one obtain this from any police station? cost? - You can obtain it at the police station in Obalende close to the Nigerian Immigration Service. I did mine for N5,000 last yr.
- medical and radiological reports: where can one get this report? Any local hospital? Cost? - Visit any general hospital close to you (i.e The one at Gbagada or Ikeja if you live in Lagos). Am not sure of the current cost but just hold dome cash just in case)
- proof of medical cover with a medical scheme/ medical insurance : are there notable ones in Nigeria and what is the cost? - This should be done with a registered health scheme in SA. You can Google " Ingwe momentum" and get directions on how to go about it. Payment can be made using your debit card.
- sufficient financial means: how much is expected for a single person - This depends on your estimated cost of study and living in SA. A bal. of around N1.5 million with good turnover should be okay.
- payment of deposit: how can one obtain a letter from the Nigeria Government? - I don't get what you mean by letter from govt. Can you explain better.
- study visa fee: what is the cost? - Its approximately N11,000 or thereabout (Visa fee and bank charges)
- visa: what is expected in duration i.e 1, 2, 3 or 4-5years? - The visa duration for PHD is usually 3 years
- application timelines: how long does this take to be finalised? - it depends on the volume of applications at hand and how fast the consulars treat it. Let's say between 2 - 5 weeks.

Should you need further clarifications, you can revert.

All the best

It is true that some schools don't request for SAQA before offering admission to students. However, it forms part of the requirements for SA visa application. Since it was expressly stated in your admission letter, you should be able to do so without SAQA.

To play safe, i will advise that you find time to visit the embassy to know if they can allow you to submit without it. That will save you from last minute stress and hassles.

All the best

. Good day bro, I've been on this thread for quite some time since I gained admission to university of Pretoria. The funny thing is have been hearing so much about this SAQA but I gained admission without using it, when I got my admission letter from the school it was stated clearly my department and one other didn't require SAQA's evaluation. What I really want to know now is, when I'm applying for a visa should I still get the SAQA done before applying when it was stated in my admission letter that it isn't needed? Thanks bro
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 10:35am On Sep 16, 2015
It depends on your purpose for travelling to SA. If you intend visiting, I will advise you just visit and come back to Naija. For studies, you stand a better chance of getting a job after studies but generally, SA is tough to be honest with you. My advice is that you have a clear plan of what you intend to do in SA before venturing into any form of application. I wish u the best.

TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 8:30am On Aug 31, 2015
The maximum no of days you can spend depends on the status of your visa. If it indicates 3mth single entry with a maximum stay of 10 days, it means you can't spend more than 10 days and can only make a single trip within the stipulated period. However, a 3mth multiple entry with maximum stay of 30 days allows you to make several trips within the period subject to a maximum stay of 30 days per trip. All the best.

Go through agoda.com and book any of the following hotels: Euro prime hotel and conference venue, Garden court hotel, sandton or protea hotel. Whatever the case is, go for the cheapest option of the three hotels.

For flight reservation, just go to flysaa.com and reserve your flight without any payment. Thereafter, you can print out the ticket reservation sent to your e-mail and attach to your application. I will advise you do this a day before you submit your visa application.

However, ensure you book an hotel that gives you a cancellation option so that you can cancel your reservation and get your money back in case your visa application is refused. All the best
Bimsebony:
Thanks yinksob002. So far I have been checking hotels in Johannesburg and the least payment they are requesting is 50%. That's abit high. What if my plans change. I will lose all that? There is little anyone on this forum can do on the issue you raised as it appears more like a technical problem and the school authorities are in a better position to address it. Hence, i will suggest that you get in touch with UNISA via e-mail or phone call explaining your challenges and i am sure they will provide a solution. All the best.

You can book any hotel of your choice within the city u intend staying during your visit.

Secondly, its not mandatory that you pay for all the 11 days. You can pay for just two days out of the 11 days while the balance is paid when you eventually travel to SA. All the best.

Its not advisable to do an unpaid booking as far as SA visitors visa application is concerned as it might lead to refusal. I will advise you to do a paid booking with option of cancellation. However, u can try agoda.com, All the best
