I'm invited for a conference in SouthAfrica in the month of September. I just received the letter to be presented at the embassy, I will appreciate if anyone can guide me with how to start my application for Visa at South African Embassy, the documents required, the Embassy's address in Lagos. The amount required for the processing and the price of the flight ticket.

The maiden name on her passport poses no problem provided you include a copy of your marriage certificate. Secondly, each applicant will pay visa fees individually. The following docs are required:
1) Duly completed visitors visa application form
2) Valid International passport
3) Two passport photo each (White background)
4) Flight reservation
5) Paid Hotel booking in SA
6) Six mths bank statement i.e proof of sufficient funds for the proposed trip
7) Yellow fever vaccination card
cool Letter of Introduction introducing yourself and other members of your family as well as the purpose and duration of the intended trip, your current occupation e.t.c
9) Copy of your marriage certificate
10) Proof of employment ( Business documents if self employed or employers letter of introduction & pay slips)
emperorlog:
Pls what documents do a family of four (husband, wife and 2 children) need to apply for a family trip to SA? Is there a family visa fee or a visa fee applies to all. Wife hasn't changed her passport after marriage, does it matter since her maiden name is what appears. Pls advice. Thanks.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 6:24pm On Aug 10, 2015
Any of the two is fine.
BOWOTO:
Thank you very much, but do I hold dollars or rand?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 11:53am On Aug 10, 2015
Just try and hold some cash and possibly your ATM card to avoid any form of harassment. You may be lucky to escape interrogation but it's still advisable you hold some personal cash as BTA. Also, ensure you have basic info about your host as they may ask you questions about him when you get to SA. Do have a safe trip.
BOWOTO:
Hello forum, I will be going to southafrica next week, I will be going with an invitation and my host will be taking care of my accommodation and welfare, do I still need bta?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 6:49am On Aug 02, 2015
When i did mine, someone in SA paid on my behalf and i forwarded a scanned copy to the international fee office and subsequently followed up with a phone call to confirm receipt. Thereafter, it was updated to my application on the portal.
Hence, you can attach a copy of the teller to your application and i am sure it will suffice. Note that the payment will be referenced with your student number which the school can link to your application and update their records accordingly.

Its not mandatory that you send your application fee together with your transcript. All they need is for you to make payment and provide evidence of such.
jewel4u:
@yinkasob002,

I will really appreciate if you can help me.
Just need clarification on somethings.
When payment is made, how do I get an invoice of the payment since its compulsory I send the application with the application fee.

Actually, the application is going to SA from my alma mata due to the fact that they will be attaching my transcript and we all know that transcripts are confidential.

Please clarify me sire

I will advise you to look for someone in SA to pay into the school acct for u and credit their naira acct with the equivalent amount cos i did same during my application process. The reason being that the amount in question is too small to incur transfer charges should you decide to send it from Naija. If u don't mind, i can assist you in paying into the acct here in SA. All the best

The cost varies depending on the choice you make. You can search on Google for some schools in SA to have an estimate of the costing.
Ugosample:
Another quick question. How much is the average school fees for a Masters degree in a reputable South African university?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 4:48pm On Jul 26, 2015
Yes it does. He should also include proof of his residence status, employment and accommodation.

TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 4:45pm On Jul 26, 2015
Sometimes they deny visas but not a lot as imagined. If your application is in order and you follow the procedures, you stand a greater chance of having your visa issued.
Ugosample:
Good day house, and good job everyone. I just want to ask, does the South African embassy deny people visa a lot?

The impression i had earlier was that u intend sponsoring her from SA but since she has her own business in Nigeria, it makes it a lot easier. In that case, she can provide her own documents instead and that will suffice. All the best.
Maama1:
Thank you so much...

Please what do u mean 'sponsor' in this regard? My mother-in-law has businesses and would be applying herself.

Modified:
Oh! Or me as the one inviting her would need to provide my SA bank statement and all?

Since you are inviting her from SA, the requirements are:
1) Valid International passport
2) Duly completed visitors visa application form
3) Sponsors bank statement
4) Yellow fever vaccination card (Obtainable at the lagos airport)
5) Letter of Invitation
6) Proof of accomodation
7) Flight reservation
cool Other supporting documents from sponsor (i.e proof of employment or business in SA, residence status in SA e.t.c)

Note that item 8 will not be applicable if the sponsor is based in Nigeria.
All the best

Your kind response will be appreciated.

In addition to the basic requirements for SA visa application, you can include the following documents:
1) Marriage certificate
2) Letter of Introduction (i.e A letter introducing your family, the duration and purpose of the intended trip
3) Copies of previous visas (If any)

You can try WITS cos you have a strong chance of being selected since you have a 2.1 and good SAQA rating. Besides, WITS is one of SA's best schools in terms of academic standard and are not too rigid in decision making.
I am currently running my masters programme here and the experience so far has been great. All the best

TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 5:59am On Jun 13, 2015
@Samtol4: God bless u. Whilst I agree that SA is not a bed of roses as a lot of people think, it doesn't take away the fact that people should learn to do things right. I got my permit all by myself without paying a dime to anyone and got advice from this forum and my academic experience so far in SA has been great. Accusing naija pastors in SA is totally off point not to talk of HIV cos whoever falls prey to such should have himself or herself to blame. Let's not generalise based on our individual experience as people have different motives for taking certain actions. The most important thing is to take a decision that will impact our lives positively and may God help us all.
samtol4:
@nnke ....why must people drop or contact you?I wanted to ignore your lamentations but when you said "I paid 60k for my visa".I decided to step forward .Study Visa to any country is the easiest visa for any1 to get and yet you pay 60k for SA study permit ?You paid bribe but now you re blaming the staff that collect what about you the giver? You did no wrong abi? Please bury your head in shame this thread is do it yourself and a lot of forumites here got their visas without paying kobo .Moreso a lot of forumites got decent jobs in SA while studying and I wonder why you didn't get any perhaps you re not honest in your dealings with people .You were ranting about HIV are you finding it difficult to zip up? ONLY A FOOL WILL contact you
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 1:47pm On Jun 07, 2015
You can check university of kwazulu natal, university of Pretoria, university of Joburg, Stellenbosch university and so on. There are lots of cheap schools in SA but quality of academic work should also be a crucial consideration. Hence, I will advise that you check out any of the schools listed above cos they are relatively cheap and equally good schools too.

On your second question, I will advise you to just present a legitimate bank statement to avoid having issues. All the best
aaamorg:
Pls house, you guys ; @Samtol4, @yinksob002 and all are really doing great job on here. I have two concerns and I need help .

1. I want to study Biz Admin and Mgt for my masters programme, I really want to know the list of cheaper institutions in SA offering this course.

2. I want to know to what extent does SA embassy verifies bank account statement.

Thank you.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 4:07pm On May 29, 2015
It is not new to SA embassy cos the embassy officials can be very unpredictable sometimes. I once had my visa issued within 2 days sometime in 2013 and I remember there were others with similar experience on this forum back then. I don't think it has to do with xenophobia. All the best
omoarole:
2 working dayshuh!!!!! that is pretty fast...
I begin to wonder if this is the outcome of the whole xenophobia thing...some bit of PR and reconciliation. We should actually begin a timeline of submission and issuance of visa on this thread. Has anyone else had a similar experience with short term visas?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 10:46pm On May 25, 2015
There is no reason to get worried cos sometimes it takes longer than anticipated moreso being a first time applicant. Just relax, they will get back to you anytime soon.

please i'd like to know how many days the VFS center waits before forwarding uncollected passports to the embassy.

TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 3:31pm On May 22, 2015
Of course you can, provided the reason for denial is wrong application. All the best

Pls peeps in the house, if one is denied a relative visa saying wrong application can someone apply for a visiting visa immediately. Thanks

You can try d high court in Igbosere, Lagos Island or the one at Ikeja. There are notary public agents around there.
callysea:
Hello anyone, please who knows where i can certify my documents in lagos, Nigeria? Specify answer pls?
Thank you.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 8:07am On May 20, 2015
Its fine. Just go with any supporting business document that you have and be bold enough to respond to any question you are asked. You might even be lucky not to be interrogated at all cos SA immigration officials are unpredictable at times. I had a personal experience in Jan 2013 when i visited SA with just 10 days to visa expiration.
In addition, ensure you hold and show them your paid hotel booking confirmation which shows that you are just spending few days and i believe you won't have problems. All the best.

TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 7:51am On Apr 20, 2015
In response to question 1, that section only applies to passengers in transit to another country and doesn't apply to you since your final destination is SA. Simply write " NOT APPLICABLE" on that part of the application form. The same thing applies to the other question u raised below in (1).
2) Since d applicant is a student, simply indicate so on the part that says occupation or profession. It poses no problem at all. All the best....
godownson:
hello house.
i got 2 questions pls.
1- on the visa applicatio form, one part of the 5th page asks;
what is your destination after leaving the republic?. and
do you hold a visa or permit or temporary or permanent residence in the country of your destination?.
^^^ these 2 questions confuse me cuz its a 2 weeks visa application with a return to nigeria so how do i answer the questions.
2- on the part that asks "occupation or profession", what do i fill?. tha applicant is 19yrs old and just finished secondary school so doesnt have a job and is yet to gain admission into the university. pls whats most appropriate to fill in?.
anyone with experience pls help clearify me. thanks.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 7:32am On Apr 20, 2015
Its okay to proceed on your journey provided your visa is still valid even if you have a week left on it. The most important thing is that you have a valid multiple entry visa which allows you to travel as many times as you wish, within the 3mth period.
So, you are good to go.
laplace:
Thanks guys, for all the educative posts. Please is there any stipulated number of days for which my SA visa must be valid before I'm allowed entry into SA? I got a 3-month multiple entry in November and travelled. I got another 3-month multiple entry visa in March and travelled but I have a meeting in May during which my visa will still be valid. I heard that sometimes they insist it must be valid for 1 month or more before I am allowed entry,
