I want to say a big thank you to all the contributors on this forum for doing such a great job (Lady Guinivere, Seye West, Omo bendel and other great contributors) . I have been an ardent follower of this thread and had a successful interview this morning. I got to the embassy around past six for my interview slated for 8:30am, being my first application for US visa. Below is the transcript : Me: Good morning VO: Good morning, how are you? Me: I'm doing great.. Thanks VO: Where in the US are you going? Me: New York VO: Why New york Me: New York has got excellent tourist attractions and sights to behold and I will love to have a feel of such awesome experience. VO: Where do you work Me: I work at XYZ Bank VO: Your designation? Me: Financial Reporting & Regulatory returns officer VO: What are your duties Me: I prepare financial reports, management accounts and render returns to CBN.... VO: Have you travelled out of Nigeria before? Me: Yes, I've been to South Africa VO: (Flips through my passport) For what purpose was your visit to South Africa Me: The previous trips were for vacation and the most recent trip was for my masters degree VO: That's great. Congratulations, your visa has been approved (Hands over the white form to me and puts my passport aside). Pick up your passport in three working days. Me: Alright, Thank you VO: Cool. Do have a great day Me: Thanks That is my experience. I learnt that it is very important to have a clear purpose for your trip and be very bold and confident during the interview. I noticed a lot of people were denied visas but above all, all glory be to God. Once again, i appreciate the meaningful contributions by everyone on this forum, God bless you all. |
Bros, your comment got me rolling on the floor i swear. How on earth will someone say he is visiting the US to watch wrestle mania. Have cable/satellite TV gone extinct? Nothing wey we no go see on top visa matter.. Lols lymelyte: |
Yes you can. Your study permit is a form of temporary residence and for that reason, you can apply from there. The case would have been different if you possess a visitors visa. All the best Kentrasso: |
It won't provided other docs are intact. Swith: |
There's nothing to worry about as applications in the last few mths takes an average of 2 to 3 weeks with the exception of few lucky applicants who had theirs processed in a week or thereabout. You should get a response from them very soon since you applied on the 23rd Nov. All the best jj17cv: |
Congrats my brother, I am so happy for you. The Lord's favour and goodness will continue to abide with you. I remember how it all started and the fact that you never gave up in the face of difficulties. Congrats once again, God bless. femiaction: |
Yes, you need to. The accompanying visa rides on the strength of the study visa in question. nikechukwu: |
Try Rwandair, you should get a far cheaper rate (Note: it's a connecting flight). For the hotel reservation, I will advise you go for a paid booking to avoid unnecessary questioning at the POE in Johannesburg. You may have to get someone in SA to do that for you as i strongly doubt if Naira master card still works here. All the best sotall: |
Putting that aside, it's one of the best schools in SA and that should be very key in making a decision to study there or not. stevetop: |
Just walk down to the mall at Park station. You can get BDC's right there. Regards olystic: |
I tire for them oh. I submitted my application for renewal since 28th Oct, still no response yet. I don't understand what their problem is. This is taking too long abeg.. . Ndukaikenna: |
It's okay {quote author=Ariel20 post=51034063] Thanks so much. Please I just got my police clearance certificate but it says for three months Would that suffice?
|
Go to any govt hospital in the state you reside. If you are in lagos, you can go to General hospital at Gbagada or Ikeja and get it done. Remember to go with a print out of the radiological form. All the best Ariel20: |
You stand a great chance given that you have a stable job and good account activity. Besides, you have a blogging biz with details spelt out in your introductory letter, which further strengthen your ties back home. Therefore, you have got nothing to worry about. It will surely come out positive all things being equal. All the best odehbrainard: |
Hello guys, I heard that travelex doesn't sell forex to SA and dubai bound travellers. Can anyone who has travelled recently confirm this. I need to know to enable me plan ahead. Thank you |
Hello All, Anyone with rands in exchange for Naira at a fairly good rate should PM me please. Thank you. |

Hello guys, i intend renewing my SA visa to attend my grad ceremony and would like to clarify: 1) If i can still use the same yellow card I have been using since Nov 2013. The last time i used it to apply was for study in 2014 and the visa recently expired. 2) The process for accessing forex for intending travellers via travelex at the airport. 3) Can savings account be used in isolation or it has to be current acct. Thank you. [Qquote author=samuelUMOH post=50125417]Yes you can use bank statement of someone in SA living legally. The person passport date page ,proof of residence ,letter of sponsor and bank statements will be required .( all certified and scan to you ) .
|
From experience, most SA schools usually give out admission letters from October (i.e Wits) especially for those resuming in January 2017. So, there is no need to worry. I remember getting my admission for PG studies at wits towards October ending 2014 despite applying in April of the same year. Nulasco: |
Hey guys, is there anyone visiting SA not later than next weekend. I need to activate my SA line before the three mth period expires as i can't afford to lose the line cos i have been out of SA since April. Pls let me know if you can be of help so that i can send you a p.m.. Thanks |
It has always been like that cos i had the same experience when i applied in 2014. What you can do is to get someone in SA to pay for you while you transfer the Naira equivalent to him or her. That's the easiest way out considering the amount involved. Dexcmd: |
Well said. I think the most important thing in life is to have a focus and direction in all you do. Getting a degree abroad has its own merits but what matters most is the ability to take advantage of the exposure & enlightenment it offers in imparting your live and the society positively. Opportunities abound everywhere. It is he who seizes time by the forelock that benefits most. I just completed my masters in SA recently and back at work in Naija but i can tell you that the experience was worthwhile and I have no regrets at all. I think the point staggerlee is driving at is for people to have a clear mind on what they want to do & how it betters their life and not just travel for the fun of it. May God bless our hustle (Amen). quote author=muhaogunlo post=44872296] You keep focusing on the rich people in Nigeria, you need to look at the bigger picture, the common man working tirelessly to enrich the rich people, not everyone is good doing business, I beg to disagree that you need millions to go for a masters in SA, as you didn't break a sweat to do your PG studies in SA, some other people don't break a sweat, also, there are schools in SA that give full tuition fee waiver for PG studies and you can even apply for scholarships even though it's quite competitive, it's not impossible to get. I agree there are no odd jobs but there are tutorship opportunities and some schools in SA even give free accommodation to PG students. Tell me you were sad when you got your PR. Or that you will return your PR when going back to Nigeria then I'll agree with you that you are really sure you don't need to have a plan B when going back to Nigeria. The point is, PG studies in SA or any other country in the world opens your eyes to opportunities and removes the limitation you get in Nigeria due to the lack of basic amenities. You've got that eye opener thats why you are going back home to invest in the economy. I think you should rather encourage more people to get that eye opener than discourage them, they don't have to stay after their PG studies but the basic thing is that they will leave as a better person, if not financially then intellectually.
|
This is why i always advise people to do a paid hotel booking and save yourself unnecessary stress and denials. Coincidentally, it happened to a friend of mine too who used the same hotel but got his visa after re-applying later with a paid hotel booking. The truth is that it's always advisable to do a paid booking and cancel it once your visa comes out. The SA embassy doesn't joke with it at all.[Qzquote author=roblance post=43168229]Boss seems na wetin dy flow be that o. A pal of mine got Invalid hotel as well.
|
It's okay. What matters most is to have a good acct turnover (i.e inflow and outflow of funds) overtime and a valid hotel booking in SA. elijah101: |
It is feasible. First, you need to obtain your study permits and thereafter file for accompanying visas for your kids. It doesn't take so long provided you meet all the requirements. All the best. meagainstdem: |
Of course you can but i won't advise you to go for that option cos you will be shortchanged. lalabu: |
You can withdraw from any bank ATM in SA. The exchange rate is cheaper compared to the rate of BDC. Just hold little cash in rands and use your ATM to withdraw bulk of your BTA once u get here. All the best lalabu: |
It's no big deal. Just go ahead and apply for your study permit. It doesn't affect you in anyway even if your permit is issued for 3 years. All you need do is renew your passport upon expiry in 2018 and attach the one with the permit to it. All the best meagainstdem: |
Hey bros, trust u are doing good & thanks for the advice. That's why i advise my peeps to use Agoda.com because the deduction is made same day without any delay. Hope to see you when i visit Durban soon. Rgds femiaction: |
I am not really sure if that is possible. However, you can ask her to help u find out since she is in Abuja. All the best bro. Internetboy: |
This question has been answered in previous threads. Kindly check 169 for more info. holytribe: |
Yes, there is. It was opened in May 2015. The address is Vineyard Shopping centre, 88, Woji road, GRA, Port Harcourt. Kindly note that it will cost u a lot to submit through the application centre over there (i.e N40,700) compared to what obtains in Lagos and Abuja. All the best Internetboy: |
