To travel to SA, ticket goes for btw N104k - N110k or even more depending on d airline and period of booking. The earlier you do so, the better considering d fact that festive period is fast approaching. The cost of doing business overthere will depend largely on d type of biz u want to do. Lastly, a room in JB falls within d range of R2,000 - R3,000. quote author=iraycom]please how much will it cost me to travel to South Africa rent one room in jb and set up a small business since there is no job there please someone should help with positive answer[/quote]

It depends on which part of pretoria she intends to stay as accomodation cost varies. However, a budget of R1,800 per mth (For studio room) and R2,000 to R2,500 for a standard room per month should be okay.

All d best

@TYPOP and Samtol4: Thanks a bunch guys.

The status on my online application portal shows that it is still under consideration. I contacted the Head of postgraduate studies after sending a couple of mails to her and got the same response. The school in question is Wits university.

Anyway, i will keep my fingers crossed for now and see how it goes.

Thank you.
TYPOP: Admission letters are usually issued around October/November by most schools while some schools give earlier but verify the status of your application with the postgraduate officer of your discipline .

May I ask which post graduate program you are talking about? Do you know if your application is successful mm or not and are just waiting for letter?
Whichever one it is, contact both your faculty and International Office.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002:
Is there anyone in the house who has received his/her admission letter for 2015 postgraduate studies cos i am yet to receive mine.

Just wondering why the response time is so long after submitting all required documents for 4 mths now.

Thank you.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 10:17am On Sep 15, 2014
Sure they will.
chemenger: Thanks so much, I want to know if SAQA would send evaluation certificate to me in naija and have them send a copy to wits university?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 7:06am On Sep 12, 2014
Follow this link: www.vfsglobal.com/southafrica/nigeria/

Once the site is opened, check the header ''VISA APPLYING PROCESS'' and view STEP 3.

Thereafter, click on application form and it automatically downloads.

Congrats. Just like i mentioned in my earlier thread that you may be lucky to have it processed within a week. My last SA visa renewal came out in two days. I wish you a safe trip to SA.

All the best
sovpounds: I eventually applied for the visa at VFS in Lagos on Friday, September 5 and I was sent a text message yesterday (September 10) that my processed application has returned to VFS. I was surprised that it took just 3 working days and I applied in the same Lagos that many people on this thread said takes a lot of time. I picked up my visa this morning.

Thank you all for your advice.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 7:29am On Sep 10, 2014
If there is need for further verification or obtain additional documents, you will be notified by SAQA. In the meantime, do not send your original credentials. The certified hard copies that you earlier provided to them at the point of application is okay for them to work with.

All the best
TYPOP: If you were to send your originals, SAQA would send a mail to you that includes the text "in the meantime, please submit original documentation in respect of . . . . . ". If this is not stated in the mail SAQA sent to you, keep your originals with you.

Secondly, SAQA does not need your original WAEC. They will ask for a scratch card if they think there is a need for further verification.

Cheers.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 5:59pm On Sep 09, 2014
I will advise you to send the certified hard copies to the person in question and as well include a letter to SAQA asking them to post a copy of the evaluation certificate to Wits univ. directly upon completion (Note that you will be asked to pay for d postage).

As per your second question, you will still need to send the certified hard copies of your credentials to Wits University. Upon receipt of the certified hard copies, the status on your online portal will change from 'Not certified" to ''Received". (N.B: Ensure that you use a reliable courier coy like DHL).

In terms of processing time, I will advise you to do your SAQA in SA cos it is faster going by my experience. I did mine during my vacation in SA using the 10days option (being the fastest) and it came out in two weeks.

All the best.
chemenger: @ Yinksob: Thanks, someone in SA wants to help with saqa, do I send hard certified copy of credentials to him or scanned copies? I have uploaded the certified copies at the portal, must I still send hard copies to wits? what's the difference between doing the saqa in Nigeria and SA in terms of time?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002:
In the process of uploading my docs as required by Wits Univ., i didn't upload any file for application fees. It is automatically updated once you've paid into the school account (quoting the reference no.)& payment has been confirmed by them. Proof of English does not apply to you and will be waived accordingly since your original language of learning is English. Hence, you do not need to upload any document for proof of English.
chemenger: Ok thanks for the response, as for the application fee what do I upload as i have already paid through mastercard online. Can I upload the mail they sent to me for the acknowledgement of payment? And what doc did upload for the Proof of english?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002:
Ensure that you apply for your SAQA in time because it takes a great deal of time. I also applied to the same school for my masters in 2015 and have completed all the necessary steps but still waiting to receive an admission letter from them. I wish you all the best.
chemenger: Hello house, Kudos to you guys for the vital info you share here.

I am a newbie here but i have started an application to university of the witwatersrand in SA for my msc in Chemical eng for Jan 2015. Having paid the app fee of R200, I have now gotten to the document upload section and here are the docs to be uploaded:
1. Application fee
2 Certified copy of transcript
3. Certified copy of certificate
4. CV
5. Proof of english proficiency
6. SAQA.
I am done with 2,3&4 already, but I need more info for others. I have already paid app fee online using a mastercard and received a mail to this effect from the school, so what do i upload for the app fee again?
Is TOEFL/ IELTS a requirement from nigerian applicants for admission to SA uni? What can I upload here to proof my proficiency in english.
Lastly how do i go about my SAQA.
Thanks house and I would so much appreciate your response.

This only applies to Visitors visa
oddybabs: is this applicable to all categories of visa I.e study, work, tourist visa etc. Is it easy for nigerians to get job there for a fresh graduate.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 9:57pm On Aug 31, 2014
There is no fixed time for processing d visa. It could take between two to four weeks depending on a number of factors and you may be lucky to have it processed within one week. However, I will advise you to put in your application 1st week of sept since you intend to travel before 9th october. All d best
sovpounds: Hello everyone. I intend to apply for a visitors visa to visit SA for a conference that would take place on October 9 - 10. Please I would like to know the current processing time for Lagos. Anyone who has recently applied in Lagos please let me know.

Thank you.

TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 10:05am On Aug 27, 2014
They are two different documents. International passport is not the same for all countries hence you have the british passport, american passport, nigerian passport and so on. It is an official document stating the country you come from and other basic personal info needed to travel to other countries. The first step is to go to the nearest passport office depending on where you live and apply for an international passport. You will need to go with your passport photo (2), birth cert. and also fill a form e.t.c. You can visit the passport office in Ikoyi close to Obalende bridge or the one at Festac town. Once your Int'l passport is ready, you can now proceed to the Port health dept. at the airport to obtain a yellow fever vaccination card. The yellow fever vaccination card certifies you free from any yellow fever infection and is an important requirement for SA visa.
Note:You will need your International passport and a payment of N1,000.00 to obtain the card.

All the best.
oddybabs: what is yellow card? And international passport also how can I get it? . Is international passport same for all countries

I still have not heard from this people oh. Am wondering why it is taking so long for them to repsond.
TYPOP: The university was on holiday. They just resumed but are facing supplementary exams at the moment. They should be able to attend to you by the end of the month.

Cheers.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 6:22pm On Jul 31, 2014
Thanks for the Info TYPOP.

God bless you
TYPOP: Depends on the university. While most
universities require saqa, a few don't. For Masters, you need an NQF of 7 on the new scale and 6 for honours. However, saqa in itself does not guarantee admission. For example, my university will not accept you if you don't have a CGPA of 3.5 while WITS will accept you with 3.0

So in the end, it depends on which university.

Just to check, is your SAQA score of 7 on the new scale or the old one?
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by yinksob002: 5:30pm On Jul 30, 2014
Good day All,
Can a SAQA NQF level 7 be accepted for masters directly even though the applicant has a CGPA of 3.1 and work experience of over six years. I understand most schools in SA take decisions based on the outcome of SAQA but i don't know how true it is. Anyone currently studying at masters level in SA should kindly advise.

Thank you.

yinksob002: Tanks for the info. God bless you

It is true that the rate of unemployment in SA is high. However, you need to have a clear plan on what you want to do whilst you are there. Their economy tends to favour those who are specially skilled in a particular field such as salon business, teaching, automobile, food business e.t.c as opposed to looking for paid employment which is difficult to get. I wish u all the best. tongue

Some schools do insist on submission of all your academic credentials while others merely ask you to submit your transcripts and first degree certificate. However, I would advise you include it to ensure a smooth process in your admission and avoid unnecessary delays. Kindly note that you do not need to show any proof of understanding English language being a Nigerian graduate, it will be waived in due course. The proof of English languauge is only required for applicants who come from countries where English language is not the original language of instruction/learning.

deolama: Pls house will like to know if it is compulsory to submit my watch result when applying for a post graduate. I saw on ukzn site that I have to show proof of understanding English. I didn't submit my O levels to saqa. Just did for my bsc certificate alone

Good day All,

I completed my application for postgraduate studies (2015) to Wits University and supplied all the required documents for more than Five weeks now. However, i am yet to receive an admission letter. I just want to know if it takes that long to receive an admission having supplied all the required documents (Hard and Soft copies).

Does anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks

I will advise you use DHL because they are reliable. I once dispatched an urgent letter to SA and it got there within Two to Three days.

tosol: Hi Friends,
Please who knows about posting either thru EMS or DHL courier service from Nigeria to South Africa? How do the two work? Which of the two is cheaper?Which one is advisable for a document that needs urgent attention? Is there a way to ensure that same document return to Nigeria thru same mode? Please I need your contributions. Thanks!

Hi guys,

Please I would like to know if my B.sc degree certificate alone is sufficient to obtain SAQA evaluation certificate. I have been unable to obtain my academic transcripts for months now due to ongoing strike action by the academic and non-academic staff union in my school.

Your prompt response will be appreciated.

Thanks
