TravelRe: On Nigerians And The 'must Travel Mentality' by yomanovic: 6:01am On Sep 28, 2014
pansophist: @OP
Count yourself lucky to be in a position that rejecting a job offer from UN (which will be an escape route outta naija, dreams of the millions) means nothing to you.

My elder brother's friend lost his mum to a little sickness that would have been cured if she was in a good environment even Ghana. She lost her life because there was no electricity with a stupid escuse that the Generator is not working. Put yourself in his shoes and tell me if you wont wish naija was better.

Probably you havent experienced the bitter scourge that most Nigerians experience. Judging life from the yardstick of money only is very flawed and idiotic. How do you enjoy life without electiricty? okay lets assume you have money to buy generator, do you enjoy the noise and the deadly smoke it generates? do you enjoy the fact that your neighbour sleeps in the dark and his child is at risk of motor accident when they go to school alone every morning? do you enjoy the fact that you have to apply for visa everytime you want to travel out for a genuine reason? can you rely on the emergency response of the health officials if you have a minor accident? do you trust the police? do you enjoy the traffic and the litters on the streets? probably you havent experienced life abroad, you wont be saying all this.

As for people looking down on you simply because you reject an UN offer, how are their circumstance? that can be an escapism out of poverty and a direct upliftment to their offspring and family. Migration has also been a core characteristics of the human nature, if anyone choose to migrate, its their choice and their life.

Once again, be happy you got it all good.
Your post makes sense a lot. The OP is in a better and convinient condition which warrants rejecting such a chance to work with the UN(is that what he said?) I understands his point of view and I also empathise with him which makes me to remember a particular small story that once went round in which a particular guy was asked what was the most difficult situation he ever passed through. He said the most difficult situation he ever passed through in his life was the day he had to change his car tyre himself. I think the OP is of a similar status with the guy in the very short story.
Mind you @op, there are very very few good job opportunities in the country compared with the population. Some of us are lucky to have a share of the very few opportunities while majority of Nigerians are less lucky. Some venture into busines while some do not have the urge for entreprenuership. Out of those that even have that urge for self-owned businessesan, some still just seem to have the ideas but no capital to start even if its small. But for those who have little capital to start, do you know that the self-owned business atmostphere is hot for them? Majority of these businesses depend largely on electrity which they have to generate for themselves. After generating electricity and servicing generator, do you know they have very little or nothing left as profits? Rent is yet to be sorted out. And worst of it all, government agent (local govt in most cases) will come one morning and lock their business premisis up claiming they haven't paid for business permit, tv and radio use and some other gibberish. Seriously, I have witnessed this. A country thrive better when these little business are encouraged, supported by the government and made tax-free. @OP, count yourself lucky and for those withh no skills you mentioned in your post, a society may not do completely without them. They are everywhere. They'll still definitely be useful for something if the governments make jobs available. Mind you, its not every work that needs skilled men. They are some jobs that when you see and SSCE holder in, don't be surprised he is supervising people with less or no education at all. Once again, congrats @OP but remember there are very very people who are opportune just as you are.

LifeIsGuhd: Agreed!

Spending on your girlfriend (if you really love her) is something you should enjoy doing, but Nigerian gentlemen see it as a favour which is really annoying angry

And what is more annoying is; if no sex, then no spending!!!
That makes you all ashewo cos na ashewo dey demand for money in return for sex.
But why Nigerian girls daft like this? The thing wey be say you want and by the way, na u dey enjoy am pass. Or tell me, who dey grown in deires during sexhuh Of course its women. So what the F is the money for when ur actually enjoying it with him?

Sincerely, this post makes every single girl out there a potential ashewo!!!

But 700k euros per year is small. Cos he go still pay tax on top am.
There are ver low earners in EPL bro. As at May, 2014, Saido Berahino, a Wesbrm strikers was earning 850 pounds per week. I don't know if his contract has been renewed though. Just to let you know that its not all EPL players that earn what you think. Secondly, it is just normal for Nigerians to state the naira value of anything in foreign currecy bacuse we understand Naira better.

PoliticsRe: Breaking!!! Umaru Fintiri Emerges PDP Flag Bearer. by yomanovic: 9:57pm On Sep 07, 2014
Sincere9gerian: APC attack dogs, crying more than the bereaved since 1884. Are you guys more intelligent than Ribadu and Marwa? Playing real politics on ground is very different from sitting behind the laptop and ranting online all day.

Meanwhile, no one knew who would win the PDP primary until the ballot was cast and results was out. That is the BEAUTY of democracy, which is lacking in the Aggrieved People's Congress where the party's candidate for Lagos gubernatorial elections in 2015 has already been anointed by the godfather and chieflooter himself, Jagaban.
Dude!!! U funny o! Are you telling me that there is no situation of anointed candidate in the PDP? Come one, Obasanjo had it all planned that Jona became president now. Jonathan had it all planned that Seriake Dickson became governor!!! Stop being sheepish mehn. Point blank bro(or u be woman), what pdp has done is to treat Ribadu the way rats treat legs when eating flesh below the hills. He bites and blows air to it so that nothing is felt. By now, I believe Ribadu now knows better. So stop deceiving him as you have already deceived him out of APC. To think Fintiri won't run in 2015? Ur such a joke man.

@op. Its not about you at all not to talk of the mouth odour thing some posters are saying here. In my opinion, I think your boyfriend is just not able to control himself just like many of other guys, myself included. But I guess he should just get his mind off sex and care more about you other than his desires for sex.
Secondly, I remember he is your boy 'boyfriend'. I think you guys are having sex too much. Do you give it to him each time demands for it? Can you try this one thing? Deny him of sex and see what he'll do. Can you?
PoliticsRe: Adamawa Polls: Ribadu, Others Step Down For 2015 by yomanovic: 5:36pm On Sep 05, 2014
Sincere9gerian: I hope Tinubu attack dogs read the report fully? The must important thing is that Ribadu and others were not forced to step down. There was no orders FROM ABOVE for certain candidates to step down. There was no preferred candidate by a godfather somewhere. There is no anointed candidate by a certain all powerful godfather. While joining PDP, Ribadu knew he would still have to contest with other heavyweights in a primary election. That is the BEAUTY of democracy and that was what attracted Ribadu to the PDP.

This is unlike the Aggrieved People's Congress (APC) where the godfather has already anointed a candidate to fly the party's flag
Na u sabi pass!!! U folo dem enter the ogogoro joint where den take the decision? Or e easy make all those people to just step down just like that? You had better wake up fast and realise that it was actually an order from above. What has just happenend is a serious political deprivation on Ribadu's personaility. The thing fit boost hin CV though.

Ur a proper Nigerian! Does have to look very expensive like what obtains here in Nigeria? That only explains the simple nature of the white people. Of course, they could have lavished the money on building the presidential villa but they chose to spend it on projects that will benefit the people.

Nice one! The only thing he did was to preprare for his greedy ambition.
PoliticsRe: Has The Power Situation Improved Since It Was Sold? by yomanovic: 9:07pm On Aug 11, 2014
Josh316: OP,

First of all, you need to tell us where your area is. Thats the only way to compare any challenges you have.

Secondly, Nigerians need to understand that this is a new era. You dont have to sit down and keep sulking about the power situation. Walk up to your service provider to discuss the challenges you have in your area, rather than assume that it is a general issue. it could well be limited to your sub-station.

Two years ago, the light situation in my area was very bad. I naturally assumed it was a general thing till i went to the office of the Electricity company to ask what the issue was. They now informed me that they were carrying out some equipment overhaul and it would take a few months to complete the project.

Now, the light situation in my area is fairly stable and way better than two years ago.

Residents in Lagos will have more issues to deal with because the defunct NEPA did a horrible job with substations and power lines. Most of the high density areas will experience more blackouts because they will need to overhaul some sub-stations and transmission lines completely. No thanks to illegal connections and obsolete equipment.
Sorry bro, I am much better informed about the power industry and I can categorically tell you that some of your statements here are total misconception.
Your statement that NEPA did a horrible job is very wrong because there are even some responsibilities that are not for nepa. All in all in Nigera, there had been roughly 4000 mega watts installed generation capacity in Nigeria which never even worked to it full capacity. Mind you, its not NEPA staff's responsiblity to build generation stations. It is the responsibility of the FG to do that and thereafter, hand it over to NEPA to run. South African government has installed capacity of 50,000 megawattes for just 45 million South Africans to share while Nigeria government has till date installed generation capacity of 4000 megawatts for almost 200 Million Nigerians to share. How do u want to reconcile these figures?

Another point is that most of the equipment actually need overhauling but the truth is that over the years, nothing could really be done without government involvement. The money made by NEPA was to be remitted to the government so NEPA would not embark on projects on its on.

Misplacement of priorities from the federal, state and local government has also been a problem beacuse electrificatiin projects are meant for RURAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCIES but Nigerians have been buying transformers and doing expansion projects themselves just as we have been contributing money to grade the roads on our streets, pay for vigilante, dig wells and boreholes and so on.

I can categorically tell you that generation at the moment is not even anything near 4000 megawatts. Some areas have economic, topographic and instrument-wise advantages over others and that's why some areas enjoy it more than other. The private companies that have just taken over are very much concerned about service delivery but it will actually take years to get there. All I can tell you is that projects are on-going to improve supply in Lagos.
