Politics / Peter Obi’s Supporters Not Committed, Elections Not Won On Social M. –dele Alake by Yoruba1stson: 3:02pm On Aug 24, 2022
The Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Dele Alake, has said many supporters of Peter
Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party are not committed Nigerians who will vote for him in the 2023 general elections.
He also identified three major factors that will determine the outcome of the 2023 presidential
election.
In an interview on Journalist Hangout, a TVC current affairs programme on Tuesday, Alake said the economy, security and the vision of the candidates to deal with them, will influence voting decisions.
Alake said Nigeria needs a leader with vision, knowledge and courage, attributes which, he said, Tinubu embodies.
Tinubu is not concerned about cash and carry or container economy. He is for something more enduring, Alake said.
“There is no gainsaying the fact of all the candidates competing for votes to solve these problems, Tinubu stands far ahead of the competitors. In terms of track record of performance as a governor, in terms of leadership, social engineering, mental development, Tinubu is an embodiment of all the leadership qualities for a country eager to develop”, he said.
Alake who was the first Commissioner of Information and Strategy in Nigeria, between 1999 and 2007, reminded the interviewers of some of Tinubu’s big signature ideas in Lagos, such as the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the building of a new city, the Eko Atlantic City out of the Atlantic Ocean.
Tinubu turned the Bar Beach around, and saved it from ocean surge, Alake recalled.
“While the then Federal Government was sand-filling the ocean, literally pouring sand worth billions of Naira into the ocean, Tinubu conceived a permanent and enduring solution. We travelled to South Africa, we went to the Netherlands. We found a solution
that today led to the Atlantic City, ‘’ he said.
Asked about the third force movement triggered by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Alake said he could not deny the groundswell of frustration among Nigerian youths that led to the movement.
“This is the driving force of Obi’s popularity on social media. The feeling is natural. The pent-up anger is real. We all have opinions as Nigerians on how things should be or ought to be. This is what is being aggregated on social media. But social media will not determine the 2023 election.
“The population of the social media warriors will not necessarily translate into votes, especially among rural dwellers. Whoever is basing Obi’s popularity on social media, has missed it,” he said.
Alake said the APC presidential campaign will deal with the Obi problem when the INEC flags off the campaign at the end of September.
But he said there is no basis for comparison between Tinubu and Obi and suggested many of Obi’s social media supporters are in it for entertainment and not because they are committed.
He said supporters of Obi have not really analysed his performance as a governor or his antecedents.
“If you put all the antecedents of the candidates on a table, Obi will trail far behind the others. There is no basis of comparison between Obi and Tinubu. The difference is clear. It’s like that between the fluke and the substance”, Alake said.

Politics / Keyamo: If Not For Tinubu, Nigeria Would Have Become One-Party State by Yoruba1stson: 9:17pm On Aug 23, 2022
The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate spokesman Festus Keyamo had said that Nigeria owes the sustenance of the present multiparty democracy to the doggedness and integrity of the presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He noted that it took the forthrightness of Tinubu to stand against the deft moves by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to turn the country into a one-party state in 2003.

Keyamo made this declaration in Abuja on Tuesday during the unveiling of a new support group, The Progressives Forum (TPF) that transformed from the All Progressives Youth Forum (APYF).

According to the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity: “Without Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, we will not have a multiparty democracy today. That’s the truth! He has earned it. If you are wise enough 2003, that was a turning point in Nigeria’s democracy. The
PDP wiped out all the people and states in both the South and North.

“But Asiwaju fought back and kept Lagos. Although they nearly entered Lagos, he fought fiercely to recover it. At that point, they came to him and said, ‘Oya, Asiwaju come to PDP so that you won’t have problems in 2007.

“It takes a strength of character and conviction to say ‘No, I won’t join the ruling party.’ From Lagos, he started to fight back before he stretched his hands over the Niger and today, we have General Buhari in power.

“That is why we have a multiparty democracy today.

If not, this country would have ended up as a one-party state. I usually say it. You may not want to vote for him but give him his credit. Without that man standing today, we would have only a party called the PDP. That’s the truth.

“It takes the strength of character. But look at all the other candidates, just one small problem, they will jump. They have been jumping from one party to the other.”

The founder of The Progressives Forum (PTF), Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed said the objective of the forum was to take part and take charge. He expressed satisfaction that in the last 7 years, members of the group have taken elective and appointive positions.

He said: “Our mission is to take our destiny into our hands. We want to anchor the pool for professionals to take charge of policy-making and running the party structures. We want to bring our expertise and training to bear on the party structures and governance. We will be pushing for cabinet positions for our members and everybody involved in progressive ideology.”

Politics / 2023: Tinubu’s Records, Credentials Formidable – Group by Yoruba1stson: 1:54pm On Aug 20, 2022
A political support group, ‘Buharists for Tinubu (B4T)’ says Sen. Bola Tinubu, stands the best chance to win the 2023 presidential election.
Convener of B4T, Dr Uche Diala, said this in aninterview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.
According to Diala, Tinubu is the candidate to beat due to his nationalist stature.
“The chances of Tinubu in the 2023 presidential polls could not be any brighter.
“With an exceptional track record of performance, exceptional leadership credentials,a pan-Nigerian and nationalist stature, there is no surprise why he is the candidate to beat.
“His pro-democracy credentials and his performance as governor of Lagos state clearly stand him out,” he said.
He, however, said there was need to make effort to convince more Nigerians on the immense development potentials of Tinubu succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari.
“All that is needed is to get even more Nigerians to see the need to elect a proven achiever.
“We shall respectfully make many more Nigerians see that to ensure a landslide victory,” he said.
Diala described Tinubu as detribalised, self-confident, liberal and independent minded; with a nationalistic flair.
“These are exceptionally strong qualities that undoubtedly qualify him as the best suited of all the
candidates for a time as this,” he said.
On the controversy surrounding his choice of former Borno governor, Sen. Kashim Shettima as running
mate, Diala said that the choice was guided purely by political consideration.
“I totally appreciate and respect the sentiments of those Nigerians who feel uncomfortable about the
‘same faith ticket, especially the sincere ones.
“But, like I have said on several other fora, it is a needless controversy. That was a purely political decision; one that was not premeditated nor planned by the APC.
“Tinubu, a southerner, having emerged as presidential candidate through a clearly democratic and
transparent process, needed to balance the ticket in such a way that would guarantee greater chances of victory.
“With the choice of Shettima, a fair, liberal-minded Nigerian, I am even more confident that we can achieve more.
“Both of them will surely build on the key foundations that have been laid by the Buhari administration,” he said.
Diala added that if elected, Tinubu would address current and evolving challenges; including insecurity,
the economy and move the nation even closer to its potentials.
He urged Nigerian to set aside ethnic and religious sentiments and elect a “nationalist-without-borders” who had the capacity to build the nation.
Diala added the B4T group was informed by the desire to unite supporters of Buhari to elect a
successor that will consolidate and improve on his achievements.
“There is no question that running on the APC platform, Tinubu will inherit the assets and liabilities
of Buhari and the ruling party.
“He will no doubt run on his exceptional track record as former executive governor of Lagos state, but equally, on the manifesto, legacies and achievements of the last seven years.
“We do not have any challenge whatsoever selling Tinubu to Nigerians, because he comes more
relevantly qualified than any of the other candidates.
“With his excellent track record as ex-governor in Lagos state, plus all the excellent work done and ongoing by the Buhari administration, Tinubu stands a better chance for victory in 2023,” he said.(NAN)
