Politics › The Lies About Mungo Park Discovery Of River Niger & The Igbo Identity Question by Youngadvocate(op): 10:09pm On Mar 23, 2017
INTRODUCTION:

They will teach you that a white man called Mungo Park discovered River Niger. That is rubbish!

Our people fished in the Niger long before Mungo Park’s grandfather was born. But in your exam, write that it was Mungo Park,” says Odenigbo (Half a Yellow Sun).
Note: We must decolonise our minds, culture, history and education so that in future, school children in Igboland and Africa will be taught that our own ancestors discovered our part of the Niger River and not some uninvited guest from Europe."

But come to think of it, how could these people possibly say Mungo Park discovered River Niger? And what happened to our ancestors who lived around the bank of the river, whose mainstay was fishery, hunting  and...other pastoral engagements? Theyfished in the River, they bathed on the bank of the river and...they fought with the mermaid spirits of the River.

Who received Mungo Park when he arrived? Was it spirits he met? If it is argued that Mungo Park settled alone and started life in the Igbo land, then are we all descendants of Mungo Park?

Well, we must aide our forebears to re-write our distorted history. Historical lies such as Mungo Park and the River Niger must be erased with the truth.

Our ucommon history has been raped so severely that it requires clasified surgery (high intellectualism).

Our names were changed, our stories were re-scripted, our beliefs were condemned and our culture battered. How could our ancestors be happy hearing names like Onitsha instead of Onicha; Enugu instead of Enugwu; Owerri instead of Owere; Ibusa instead of Igbouzor; Oguta instead of Ugwuta; Awka instead of Oka. Oshimili/Orimiri instead of Osimiri and the most hurting Ibo/Ebeo/Igbos instead of Igbo/Umuigbo.

This I learnt much later in life , then the Great River Flora Nwapa talked about in EFURU made a lot of sense to me afterwards

Politics › Ohaneze Ndi-igbo To Compile List Of Igbos In Diaspora For Security Reasons by Youngadvocate(op):
At the time Umu-Igbo in Diaspora are exposed to threat and attacks and the Federal government is seemingly nonchalant in approaching the problems headstrong, Ohanaeze Ndigbo says it will soon commence compiling the data of Ndigbo in Diaspora with a view to ensuring their protection and well-being.

The Igbo Apex socio-cultural body says it will also explore opportunities at all federal ministries and agencies with a view to ensuring proper representation and fair positioning of Umu-igbo.

As contained in a statement issued by Chuks Ibegbu, National Deputy Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, "the President General of the Organisation, Chief Nnia Nwodo has called on Ndigbo outside Igbo land to invest at home as a fall back position.

"He also called on them to promote the Igbo language and heritage wherever they are."

Ibegu continued: “He also re-iterated the call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and for federal presence in Igbo land, stressing that a situation where the South East has only five states and 95 local government areas is no longer tolerable.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo is dismayed by the recent utterances of the DG of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr Osita Okechukwu, claiming the the group is opposing President Muhammadu Buhari.

"This is a figment of his imagination. Ohanaeze is there to protect the interest of Ndigbo and will always shout if Ndigbo are sidelined in the scheme of things," he concluded.

Angel Okorie, the beautiful nollywood star shares this throwback picture of hers and some inspiring story of her past

"This picture keeps reminding me how awesome and faithful God has been to me. I am that little church girl that loves God sooooooooooo much
while growing up even till now, and till I loose my last breath. I want to thank God for his mercies and Grace towards me. Take a very good look at this picture you see that presently, I don't look like what I've been through. I could remember when I created a group called "Angelic Singers" we were 4 in number "ADA, CHIDINMA,OLUCHI,AND I." We sang in the choir and everywhere, while we were growing up, we could just go to the beach for our rehearsals in cotonou where I was brought up. So, for those of you that think I act all churchy, you are wrong I don't act it, it's in me, it's an inborn thing for me. My late headmistress would ask me to lead morning devotion and weekend fellowship in school cause of my dedication to God. I miss all of that, am proud of whom I have become. I practically owe everything to God, no matter my profession and life style, I still acknowledge God in everything I Do, because its actually my consistence in God that has brought me this far, I 've never lived to impress anyone and will never, I will always be be me, I am still that church girl that is playful and loves Singing."

Culture › The Real Interpretation And Meaning Of 7 Days (izu Asaa) In Igbo Calendar by Youngadvocate(op): 8:05pm On Mar 21, 2017
Saw this old piece of paper inside one of my books today and remembered the story behind it.

While taking a particular course few years ago, a Yòrúba professor challenged me to tell him what the number "7" (SEVEN) meant to Igbo people and why they attach/attached so much importance to it. I couldn't say something meaningful on that. I felt embarrassed and immediately went into some quick researches when I had gone home. I was able to quickly scribble some of these points to get the professor know I wasn't a lazy student when I must have returned to him the next day to answer him.

Summary of the points:

One Month in Igbo calendar is Izu Asaa (7 weeks). The 4 market days multiplied by 7 weeks give you 28 days, which make one month in Igbo cosmological interpretation of a full moon cycle. Perhaps, Ndigbo derive all other arrangements of numbers from this very full moon cycle which they hold as natural. Thus, relating with other parts of the world in their belief that man imitates nature in many of his ideas and concepts.

In my part of Igboland which is Ihiala, Anambara State, when a man is inducted into the prestigious Ọzọ Order — in the pure traditional and ideal setting — he's meant to stay indoors for Izu Asaa (7 weeks). Then again, after 7 days, if he survives the sanctification and purification times, he is fit to go for Afịa Ọzọ (a special shopping of onye Nze).

Egwurugwu (rainbow) naturally has 7 colors. In Ihiala, when Egwurugwu is 'unusually' seen, it is taken that onye ọzọ (especially the aged) is about to die. This belief has birthed a saying among Ihiala people, that "onye Nze hie egwurugwu, ọ naa" (when an Nze 'transfigures' into a rainbow, he joins his ancestors).

Hehe! Igbo dị omimi! Igbo is deep!

Biko, my elder sisters and brothers here, I'd appreciate if you can add to this and educate some of us the younger ones, who'd appreciate to learn. Thanks. http://igbobia.com/?q=the-real-interpretation-and-meaning-of-7-days-izu-asaa-in-igbo-calendar-chijioke-ngobili.html

Politics › Part Of What Make Ndi-igbo The Greatest People -Historian, Sandra Ifechi Reveals by Youngadvocate(op): 7:48pm On Mar 21, 2017
Ada-Igbo, Sandra Ifechi takes us aback to the January, 1855 evergreen narrative of John Brown,"Slave Life in Georgia: A narrative of the life, sufferings, and escape of John Brown a fugitive slave now in New England." John Brown was a descendant of Igbo, the son of Joe and Nancy.

Sandra Ifechi extracts the second paragraph of John Brown's narrative to draw to attention, the spirit, strength and resilience of Ndi-Igbo.

Enjoy...

John Brown's second paragraph: "I believe my father and family were bred on “Benford's plantation”. His father had been stolen from Africa. He was of the Eboe (Igbo) tribe. I remember seeing him once, when he came to visit my mother. He was very black. I never saw him but that one time, and though I was quite small, I have a distinct recollection of him. He and my mother were separated, in consequence of his master's going farther off, and then my mother was forced to take a second husband. She had three children by my father."

Sandra Ifechi's submission: "The Trans-Atlantic slave trade & the Biafran war of self defense are the two most devastating historic events in Igbo history. Both events changed Igbo society. Over a million Igbos were enslaved & up to 3 million perished during the war. It is impressive that Ndi Igbo are still one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa. Did someone say 'they tried to bury us, but they didn’t know we were seeds!'

"According to history sources, many slaves were taken from the Ibo people because they were the strongest for the work on the plantations in the New World, although they were the most stubborn and deviant which explains the “Igbo landing”, where plenty Igbo slaves held their hands together, singing ,in chains and walked into the ocean. They wanted to go back home. Igbo history is remarkable and inspiring. Amidst what was done to us in the Biafran War, over a million lives lost, buildings destroyed, refusal to allow any Igbo in government, cutting their money in the bank, and reducing all IGBO people after the war to the lowest level in the civil service, our people are still Strong and Resilient."

Politics › How Ohafia People Were Saved From British Massacre In 1901 By The Brave Eke Kalu by Youngadvocate(op): 5:52pm On Mar 20, 2017
Commonly referred to as “Mba Ji Isi Acho Isi” (the Nation of Headhunters) for their long history of military prowess and exceptional bravery in the face of combat, the Ohafia people have been known to embrace challenges and stand rigid in the face of danger. In a community in which strength and valor were the parameters by which social honors were conferred, wars—especially those with the White Men—were a prime opportunity for young Ohafia lads to earn eagle feathers of their own with which to brandish their caps—a badge of inimitable courage and achievement.

Such an opportunity came in the year 1901, when the British Royal West African Frontier Force (RWAFF) invaded Igboland in a punitive campaign to demolish Igbo resistance to colonial rule and avenge the Massacre of their compatriots at Obegu. That year, Obegu, a pro-British town in what is now Abia State, had been sacked and a large number of its inhabitants were massacred by anti-British forces headed mainly by the Aro and their Ohafia, Abiriba, and Abam allies. As retribution for their involvement in the massacre, the Ohafia people were among those targeted by British forces.

That year, Eke Kalu, a former-slave-turned-business man, was visiting the British-held port city of Calabar on a business errand when he witnessed the White Men and their African soldiers preparing for their assault on his homeland. Earlier in his life, Kalu had served as a load carrier for RWAFF troops throughout their campaigns and had witnessed the devastating effects of their artillery and machine guns. Driven into action by the urgent need to save his people from their imminent doom, he hurried out of Calabar via canoe and returned to Ohafia, where he issued warnings to no avail.
As they approached Ohafia, the British forces first stopped at Ebem and set up camp. As soon as they pitched their tents, a charge of Ebem warriors led by their commander, Idika Echeme, attacked. Startled at first, the British suffered a few casualties but soon brought the force of their Maxim machine guns to bear on the hapless Ebem warriors, who were armed with mere dane guns and swords. (Continued in comments)

British artillery further devastated the charging warriors and cut down wave after wave, eventually routing the survivors. After the battle, Ebem was burned down.

Back in Ohafia, news of Ebem’s demise only helped Kalu dissuade his people from what was considered suicidal resistance. As the British approached Ohafia, a delegation led by Eke Kalu awaited them at the town’s outskirts. As the soldiers neared, he waved a bamboo pole upon which was tied a white handkerchief and shouted: “Anyi kwere na nde Bekee” (we agree to the British).

The presumed-reserved Actress isn't known for flamboyant and wild dress pattern and life style, in fact, many believe she is one of the few well-cultured stars in the entertainment industry; a value that earned her a chieftaincy title in her hometown in Enugu state.

To the shock of some and and fantasy of others, this attire of Ebube gives her Intagram followers some stuff to swallow. She is just telling a different part of her life.

Anyways, I think she is just stunning. What do you think?

Politics › Nnamdi Kanu And Other IPOB Members Will Be Freed Tomorrow...IPOB Says by Youngadvocate(op): 7:05pm On Mar 19, 2017
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is very confident its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB Memebers facing trial at Federal High Court in Abuja would be freed during court sitting tomorrow, Monday.

Recall the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako had on March 7, 2017 canceled six charges out of 11 charges against Kanu and other pro-Biafra campaigners and postponed the case to tomorrow , March 20, for hearing.

IPOB has however called on members living in and around Abuja to be in court tomorrow March 20, 2017 in solidarity with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and others detained illegally in Kuje prison Abuja.

Mr. Emma Powerful, IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, said in a statement: “The court case that is coming up this Monday in the Federal High Court, Abuja is between our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and federal government of Nigeria on the concocted charge of treasonable felony without proof or evidence. Nigeria has the dubious distinction of being the only contraption on earth where those that hold opposing views to that of the government are locked up on the grounds of being treasonous yet no single evidence to back up the claim.

“The Nigerian Government and her APC Party led by Muhammadu Buhari through her security agencies especially the Department of State Services, DSS, has been bringing frivolous charges against our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB, which have never held any water from day one because God Almighty (Chukwu Okike Abiama) in his infinite mercy has opened the eyes of the judges to see the truth hence the quashing of some of the charges preferred against them, we expect Justice Binta Nyako to discharge some of the remaining charges.

“However, we are urging the Nigerian government and her judiciary to stop embarrassing themselves in the face of international community and foreign observers that will be in the court on that day by dropping the remaining charges preferred against our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other members detained illegally alongside him in the prison since almost two years now.

“At the last court session, some of the silly charges were dropped. It was also determined on the 7th March 2017 and pronounced to the hearing of the world that Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB is a lawfully constituted organisation which has been welcomed by the international community and foreign policy makers in the various countries of the world.

“In other words, the whole world is looking forward to see the Nigeria government, the judiciary and the Federal High Court to do the needful by removing other charges against the members of a lawful organisation like IPOB because they did not commit any crime against humanity or Nigerian State."

Politics › Nigeria Cannever Learn From The Civil War - Ike Ekweremmadu by Youngadvocate(op): 12:55pm On Mar 19, 2017
Against the backdrop of the humanitarian crisis in the North East, and the injustices the people of the South-East (Ndi-igbo) which has resulted into crisis and agitations, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Odogwu nwoke n'obodo Enugwu, reasoned that Nigerians have failed to learn from the Biafra civil war.

Speaking in Abuja, the deputy senate President said Nigeria ought to build her internal capacity and mechanisms for managing such situations, noting that after going through armed conflict and humanitarian crises, Nigeria ought to have re-enforced her capacity to solidify  peace and handle humanitarian challenges.

He, gave assurances that the National Assembly was dedicated in assisting parts of the country facing humanitarian challenges.

According to Ekweremadu, “As a young boy in the 1960s, I experienced firsthand the humanitarian crisis in the eastern part of Nigeria occasioned by the Biafran war. Then, we had to depend on international donors and humanitarian organisations.

“Unfortunately, from the developments so far in the North East, it is clear that, like virtually every other thing in our history, we did not learn from that experience. We remain heavily dependent on humanitarian organisations and donors.

“If we had learnt from the experience of the civil war, Nigeria would have needed little or no external support. We would have built our internal capacity and mechanisms to manage the North East situation."

Politics › Ngige Declares He Will Run For Anambra Central Senatorial Election Re-run by Youngadvocate(op): 1:15pm On Mar 18, 2017
As shared by a close source, Eneh Victor Chigozie, Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige has confirmed he is re-entering the race of the Anambra Central Senatorial Re-run election which he had previously bowed out from.

The current Minister, had opted out of the race to make way for Sharon Ikeazor, but the hopes of Sharon to succeed him in the race was dashed two days ago as the Federal High Court, Abuja dismissed a suit brought by her seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept her as a substitute for Dr. Chris Ngige.

Justice Chikere held that the time for political parties to nominate candidates for elective position in respect of the 2015 elections had elapsed elasped and that meant the APC party would be left out of the election.

Ngige reportedly made the decision to ensure the APC would be included in the fourth coming election re-run.
