The Federal Government yesterday announced it was collaborating with the World Bank to recover about 185 million euros transferred to some commercial banks in Liecttenstein in Central Europe by the General Sani Abacha regime through some shell companies. Speaking on efforts by the government to repatriate the funds which she said would be used to finance rural development projects across the country, Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said the recovery effort started about 14 years ago under President Olusegun Obasanjo when about $500 million were also repaid by banks in Switzerland. “We have been pursuing this money in Liechtenstein and this is part of the legacy of the Abacha monies that were taken out of the country. There has been several steps, through a lawyer, who has been working on this case as well as other cases of lost Abacha money. “But the essence is that we identified this money in Liechtenstein, through our lawyer, Mr. Erico Monfrini of Switzerland. He first started under President Obasanjo’s administration and now credit to President Goodluck Jonathan who has been pursuing it in the last few years with the same lawyer. “The Attorney General of the Federation has also been working on this. In fact, they were working before I joined and the idea is that there has been several legal steps and challenges that have been thrown in Liechtenstein courts against returning this money,” she said. The minister said the money was sent in through some front companies, some shell companies that were opened up in Liechtenstein and then transferred through those companies into Liechtenstein banks, stressing that the beneficiaries were really General Abacha’s companies. She stated that at the time the funds were identified nearly 14 years ago, several legal steps were taken to get them back, noting that the companies or their representatives have always thrown legal challenges every step of the way. She explained that it got to a stage where the courts in Liechtenstein had mitigated and said it should be returned. However, while this was happening, the companies took the case to the European Court of Human Rights, saying that the Liechtenstein government violated their human rights by allowing the money to be taken away from them. She stated that taking the case to court meant another two or three years delay, an indication that the country was just employing delay tactics to keep the money since they would be earning interest on it.. Okonjo-Iewala said another obstacle the Liechtenstein government created was to ask us to sign a guarantee that if the European Court of Human Rights fines them for any reason, Nigeria would indemnify them. BENIN — Against the background of incessant kidnappings and other violent crimes in Edo State, members of various cult groups in the state came together in Benin, weekend, in a move they said was to tackle insecurity in the state. However, the cult groups during their summit with the theme Interactive Peace Summit: Strategy for Social Cohesion, which held at the Sand Beach Resorts, Benin, expressed dissatisfaction with threats posed to Edo and other neighboring states due to the activities of kidnappers, armed robbery gangs and other criminal activities. They resolved to tackle them. Represented Some of the cult groups represented by at the summit included Green Circuit (Maphites), Norsemen (Vikings), , Eiye Confraternity, Family Fraternity of Nigeria and Avarian Organisation of Nigeria. Also in attendance were representatives of Governor Adams Oshiomhole; the Iyase (traditional Prime Minister) of BeninKingdom, Chief Sam Igbe; representatives of the Edo State Commissioner of Police and that of AIG Zone 5 Benin and representatives of the Director, Department of State Services. Others were representatives of the Commandant of Civil Defence and Security Corps, Edo State Neighbourhood Watch Council and the OC, SIB, AIG Zone 5. Chairman of the Consolidated Forum, Donald Edeo-ghon, while acknowledging the damage done by activities of the group, however expressed hope that the coalition of the groups would help in checking crime in the state. He said: “If you remember, for over two decades, inter-group conflicts, which often resulted in violent and fatal crises, were the attributes of EdoState communities. “Innocent lives and property of inestimable worth are destroyed on a whim. “Armed robbery, kidnapping, thuggery and sundry social vices rose to unprecedented levels; it became dangerous to reside and function legitimately in EdoState and in particular, Benin. “The situation looked bad, but then came the platform of Rainbow Consolidated Forum with a template for all seasons.” Chief Igbe expressed joy at what he witnessed and called on the groups not to disappoint, saying “you know I am going to brief the Oba on what I have witnessed here today.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/cultists-hold-security-summit-edo/ |

Pastor Olu T: In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest.................. 1John3:10th1 John 3:10-24 New International Version (NIV) 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. |
Christian or Muslim. What matters is what you know and how to use your resources. Christians shouldn't be poor, middle class is not bad. If you believe all the believable and you aren't talking a step to make changes, such person will remain poor here on earth and underworld. The Creator condemns laziness. |

Happy Sunday Nairalanders, What is happening this days in our churches is appalling, the way church bring out time to preach to people to make donations in church mostly this harvest and bazaar season. Imagine 15 minutes will be used for sermon while more than an hour will be used to tune people to bring out money no matter how little it is. Why has money taken over all activities in church ![]() Our Lord Jesus Christ said to Peter, I will make you the fisher of men. I now begin to wonder if there is no more fishers of men in our churches. Wining souls for Christ and money which is more important ![]() Your contribution is needed. |
Chino_Is_Back: You are a clown for saying that. probably you are talking of Onitsha of 10-15years ago. Onitsha is a lot neater with good network of roads, thriving economic activities and secured at least to the standard of most economic cities of Nigeria. Lagos, PH, Onitsha and Kano has one thing in common- and that is huge capital resources flows in them and that can attract some level economic crime, of which Onitsha is still better off when compared among those major cities of its ranking. Why can't we residents say the truth for once. Tell me, can you work around in Fegge with your mobile phone left alone with your laptop computer, more especially during the evening? Do you know how many shops that has been attacked in Fegge by those criminals. A friend of my lost his laptop and gadget because of this criminals in a cyber cafe I normally visit. My sister was stopped last month by two boys on bike demanding to have her cell phone in front of the house. Because of the current situation I don't go out after 6PM with my phones or wallet. Yes Onitsha has changed but in security it's F9. The heart of Onitsha Fegge and Odoakpu need security asap. |

I do not have any link for my website and was ranking only based on content as it was very low competitive keywords, but still I have gone back. I doubt it was not Penguin as Penguin affects only for bad links.Hmm. |
