Facilitate the building of the FOURTH MAINLAND bridge ASAP to divert some of the heavy traffic from The Western Flank of Lagos Mainalnd <====> Island into the Eastern Flank Ikorodu <====>Lekki. This will complete the ring of Lagos traffic flow and shift some of the activities that makes The western flang more congested to the eastern flank resulting in more evening out. 4 Likes 1 Share |

gregyboy: forget religion for one second and face the facts. There are very young people who get married in the ss.. i have personaly seen 16 year old Ijaw and cross river girls in family homes... What do you have to say about that? Or haven't you seen threads of very young couples from the east as well on this same NL? You are just jumping into conclusion Even look at the name of the person who reported this event, does that look like a name from west to you? |

gregyboy: HOW DO YOU KNOW where they are from? From my observation, this is somewhere in the SS. And who told you the West practice underage marriage? And are you seriously advocating that the baby be killed? |

And how do you know the ethnic make up of slaves from the Bight of Benin before the 1800s or that Yoruba groups were not there? There are significant recorded Yoruba presence in places like Haiti, Louisiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and other places well before the 1800s. Even if your assertion were true, it is on record as well, that Igbo slaves also kept on arriving into the Americas (although not the USAA) as late as the Yoruba kept arriving. Compare and contrast the cultural legacies of the late arrivals on both sides. Besides, Congo influences in the new world are very visible in the places were they concentrated. Palo Mayombe, Conga music, Zombies, Capoeira are all said to be Kongo legacies. 2 Likes |

Igboid: Not true. Slavery started in the bight of Benin before the Bight of Biafra sef. You might say the bulk were lade "late" as in like 1700s to late 1800s, but that does not mean there were no early Yoruba slaves. Look at Haiti for example that had an early slave revolution and hence had the input of newcomer slaves cut short early due to independent status, yet there is still Yoruba influence there. Also, the reason you gave earlier is NOT the reason Yoruba culture survives in the Americas. Why did Fon and Yoruba culture survive in the USA , when they were there under the same conditions as those you claim their cultures were totally removed from them? That other thread you posted its link here is just a wild generalization. 2 Likes |

This thing looks more like an hybrid between a graduation / convocation academic gown and the cassock of a church priest than an agbada imo. It looks sleek and trim, but doesn't have the flamboyant vibe of a proper agbada. Which is the entire point of wearing an agbada in the first place. 172 Likes 10 Shares |

The way we make importance of trival issues in this new age of social media rubbish is worrisome. A random corp member from the north makes a post on Facebook and, some other people with the exact same mentality are blowing an ant hill into Olumo rock just to score cheap tribal points. It is quite sad. What of all the countless negative things Southerners say about the North and Northerners? And all the uncouth name they call Hausas and other tribes in the North? I am a southerner too, but noobody holy pass. Lets stop the sentimental reasoning! Guyman02: Stop that! What of corp members serving in parts of the Niger Delta that have gotten kidnapped, raped or killed by militants, cultists or just ranpaging youth? Honestly, outside of war-zones in the North- security for corpers in places like Sokoto or Kebbi is far greater than security in Rivers or Delta. If you REALLY know Nogeria, you will have to agree with me. www.nairaland.com/attachments/2516371_akamt_jpegcc7841de6c1a12ecb2cc1713815f98fb https://www.nairaland.com/2379575/corper-kidnapped-rivers-state-yesterday 34 Likes 4 Shares |
Culture / Re: Bini Are Original Owners Of Lagos, Not Yoruba – Layi Ajayi-Bembe by YourNemesis: 9:52pm On Nov 19, 2017 |
cyrilamx: Pls try to be smart when posting. FESTAC was a black African festival of arts and culture that took place only 2 times. The first and maiden event took place in Dakar, Senegal in 1966. Nigeria hosted it just once (1977) and of course, it had to have a theme image- similar to mascots of sports events today- and the benin ivory mask was chosen as that years’ mascot. FESTAC ended and is no more celebrated, but any Nigerian art of reputable standard could have been chosen to be the official face of FESTAC if Nigeria had gotten more chances to host the event, or even back then in ‘77. If The Nigerian Olympic team of 2020 decides to wear Agbada with green Gele to the parade of Nations repping Naija for that year’s event, does that mean Yoruba clothing is superior to the traditional clothing of all other groups within the country? Stop living a life of delusion. 2 Likes 1 Share |

flyover30: lool elaborate more abeg. Those so called bini gods are from Yorubaland. Ogun was an Ekiti warrior who founded Ire. Sango/Isango was an Oyo man. Esu, Ifa, Orunmila, Olokun etcc all Yoruba. You people even call sacrifice Ebo. There are so many Yoruba words in edo language as well. Do not think the Binis have some kind of monopoly of influence. Iyan (pounded yam), Ogban (30), Aga (Chair), Gedu (Timber), Ewu (Blouse/clothing top), Iyi (Honor), Agan (Barren), Bata (Shoe), Ishana (Matchstick), Oko (Canoe), Ologbo (Cat), Elubo (Flour), Ago (Camp), Abe (Blade/Razor), Agbo (Ram), Adugbo (which ypu people call “Edogbo”)-Neighborhood, Pataki/Kpataki (Important). Etc etc. Too numerous to enumerate here. There are also towns in Edo with their origin in IFE. Go and do your research well and come back. Lets us look at Nigeria right now... give 3 examples of how so called bini culture is superior to yoruba culture like you say. Waiting.... 15 Likes 4 Shares |

flyover30: So Ajayi is now both Yoruba and Edo name abi Yoruba mame that entered Edo history and existence together with a lot of others. Who told you that the Eti-osa in Lagos has anything to do with the Edo name Etinosa? The Yoruba pronunciatipn of Èkó isn’t even the same as the Ędo pronunciation which has a different tone all together and starts with a Ę rather than an E Don’t worry Lagos schools will soon begin Yoruba language classes so that people can know the meanings of some of these words they see everyday around Lagos. 12 Likes 2 Shares |
