Opiletool:
I agree and apologise that my earlier posted number might be slightly exaggerated due to the mischievous attempt by the person I quoted to call a lie a fact, likening Ekiti to Enugu in religious population term is a pure fallacy. However, your own number is also exaggerated. I have scavenged the Internet for the correct data from a reliable source, but couldn't get any. It is irrefutable that xtians dominate Ekiti and Ondo state, but pegging the number at 80% xtians to 20% Muslim is wrong. I lived the most of my life in both states, as I share the heritage of the two. I'm a xtian, and I'm telling you that Muslims in Ekiti are about 30 to 35%, as there are many indigenous Muslim families in the state. Go there during Muslim festive periods to ascertain.
Muslim festival period is a time when all muslims converge and go to Eid grounds for prayers , put on conspicuous clothing and other stuff which makes than more visible. I suggest that you speak to real indigines of Ekiti state to put this matter to rest. I am not saying muslims are not a visible minority or do not exist in Ekiti state. the issue here is proportion. When was the last time Ekiti state had a deputy Governor who was Muslim? If Ekiti was 35% Muslim, trust me, they would be very significantly represented in the affairs of the state, like Christians in Osun state are always represented even though muslims are at least 60% there. The Ijeshas and Ifes being predominantly christian with scattered concentrations in the rest of the state..
Ekitis as a whole are predominantly christian even their local governments that are in Kwara are still predominantly christian.
CultureRe: The Traditions Of Origin Of Ora People In Edo State by YourNemesis:
laudate:
Oga, 80% of Ekiti is not Christian, give or take. From Afao-Ekiti to Igede, Ikole, Emure, Ijero, Omuo etc, there are significant and large indigenous families that are Muslims.

If you look at it on a town by town basis, you would see that some town's have a preponderance of Christians, while other towns have their population almost divided equally across both religions.

Ado-Ekiti and Efon-Alaye has a predominant Christian population compared to other towns like Otun-Ekiti, Moba and Irele which have many Muslims.
80% of Ekiti is still christian, give or take. That is 4/5 while 20% are Islamic or 1/5.
Of course on a town by town basis there are a few locales that have more muslims, but even those towns with Muslims in Ekiti will still have significant christians. Infact in some of those places you mention (Ikole, Emure and Ijero the majority is still christian) so what are you on about? In the last national population census that included religion as a measurable variable~ the old Ondo province had the greatest proportion of Christians in the old Western region at around 80% or so. Go to any random Ekiti group and do a quick random survey of the names.

Oga stop saying what you don't know. Xtian and Muslim population in Ekiti is like 55% to 45%. Most of you kids will just come on social media to expose your unclad ignorance.
Oga this is a LIE.
The same Ekiti state or another one?
At least 80% of Ekiti is christian give or take. Not that it is anything to be proud or happy about, but don't come here and be forging figures like they are fact calling Ekiti almost 50-50 Xtian/Mslim

With the explanation and details in the article, I don't see how that is a COASTAL rail... basically a Southern Nigeria railway system.

Was I really that far off about the prevalence of Muslims from Ondo State or is laudate just doing his thing?
Ondo has MORE muslims than Enugu and Ebonyi, like a lot.
But it depends on where you are.
In Ondo state South Senatorial district yes you are right, but in Ondo North like in Ikare or Owo that would be wrong.

I know amala isn’t widespread in Eastern Yorubaland so that one’s no shock to me. How are they re. religious affiliation? Islam’s unheard of in Ondo State but there’s more ground for it the further East one ventures into Edo State. Or are Oras also affiliated with Ondos re. religion?

I hope you don’t mind these questions. It’s an interesting discussion.
Owan East has more Muslims and it is more difficult to call the majority. Owan west has more christians than muslims, if you go to places like Warrake or Ivbiaro in Owan east, you will think you are in tiny versions of Ilorin.. soo, way more islamic than Ondo in those parts.

Some like 'Ikao have an oral history of founding fathers directly from Ife rather than Benin via Ife or Benin directly during the time of Ozoluwa like you hear in the rest. Also among the Iulehas (Uzebba) who are the largest clan in Owan west, they trace their origins to a man called Irimo~ Some accounts say he was a son of Oba Ozoluwa, some say he was from Ijebu-Ode via Ile-Ife. Whatever it is, they are clearly Edo-oid.

Any idea the linguistic and food similarities they share?
Linguistically they speak Emai, Otwa, Ora etc and other edoid micro dialects, although some can be heavily laden with Yoruba words. like in Otuo or in Sobe.
The cuisine border isn't as sharp between Edo and Ondo to begin with, they both have a thing called black soup, egusi and pounded yam is always a staple... not the amala ish though~ that is the 'Oyo type' of Yoruba., other general meals are the same , except those I don't know of. They are quite sw/yoruba-philic, except for a few that hv spent their entire lives in places like Port Harcourt. Dele Momodu is a native of Ihievbe but claims SW. Olusegun aganga former minister is also Owan, people don't even know.

The emboldened is very interesting. Half Ondo how?
Thanks for asking.
By 'Half Ondo', it literally means just as it sounds. They are halfway between Esans and Ondo Yorubas culturally.
Sobe was even formerly in Ondo state but was later on transferred to Edo. Arimogija and Ijagba (Uzagba) are still in Ondo, Uzebba, Otuo, Ikhin, Okpuje etc on the other hand are in Edo but are like Ishan-Yoruba mixes in everything.

CultureRe: Ooni Ogunwusi: Igbos Are From Ile-Ife - Ohanaeze Kicks by YourNemesis: 11:43am On Apr 23, 2019
PAGAN9JA:
You are missing my point. The tribes you mentioned are your closest relatives today.

Igbos must have diverged way back before even these tribes existed. Therefore they are completely different to Yorubas and are very distinct and separate groups now. evem more so than the groups you mentioned. They migjt habe been related 10000 years ago but today they are evolved to the point where they are not related anymore. Atleast to a great extent.

There are many layers of lineage. Its just the difference between what is acceptable today and what is not. E.g., You share a lineage with Chimpanzee too. 98% of your DNA. but even that 2% difference can produce completely different beings. so imagine what a 0.0098% difference can create for example.

I conclude as I said before the Oooni talks sense and nonsense as well. You are related as well as unrelated to Igbos. Therefor the consequence of this debate is 0. because today Yoruba is different Itsekiri is a bit different, Igbo is a bit more different Chinese is a bit more more different and Chimpanzee is way too different.

End of the day,Yoruba must stick to Yoruba first and foremost. same applies to the rest. Let Evolution take its natural course.
Yorubas are from the Niger Benue trough area, the Igalas went east and we went west. From the group that went west, the Itsekiris then left at a much later time and went deep south.
Igbos are not from the Niger-Benue area... they are from Cameroon, Central African republic- or there abouts
CultureRe: Ooni Ogunwusi: Igbos Are From Ile-Ife - Ohanaeze Kicks by YourNemesis: 11:28am On Apr 23, 2019
PAGAN9JA:
There is some truth in what the Ooni says and I see where he is getting at.

However, the truth will not have much impact on the current tribal structures.

What The Ooni is trying to articulate is that the Igbo and Yoruba are from a distant common ancestry. An ancestry way older than Oduduwa or Nri. Both tribes belong to the YEAI Group of Volta-Niger tribes.

However this division hapoened 1000s of years ago. Its not a division but a natural evolutionary process of diversion of tribes.

Just like how we diverged from chimpanzees and we both share a common ancestor in a now extinct species of Great ape-like ancestors. Yet we dont really intermarry with Chimps do we ? This evolution dates way back when compared to evolution of human tribes. The Chimpanzee-human evolution has crossed the barrier of separate species which will produce sterile offspring if ever there was interbreeding.

Therefore in these terms an Igbo is much closer to a Yoruba and an Edo then say to a Hausa or Arab or Chinese.

In the same manner. A Yoruba is much closer to Igala , Itsekiri than to Igbo. and diverse Yoruba clans are the closest in that they are modern evolved culture with minimal differences and a more concrete form.

This is not interbreeding but diversionary evolution.

Therefore while the Ooni does have a point, it is of no relevance today except as an understand of where intertribal co-operation and relationship stands in the modern world.

The two cultures and genetic strains have diverged to such a point and to different lifestyles and conditions in that they have developed completely different cultures, language, spirituality and identity with very faint traces of their original ancestral similar culture left in their physique. E.g., in some traiditonal religious references or lingusitc terms and other practices.

They have also slowly evolved different phenotype as well. flat head/ round head.

Thus the Ooni's real point which is not able to articulate is that in terms of intertribal relationships, we must be conscious where we stand in politics.

A Yoruba must stand first with an Itsekiri and then with an Igbo and then with any other tribe.

He must understand his concentric circle of intertribal relations and where his first allegiance lies. First with his blood people, then his first cousins, then his second cousins, then the nation and then the rest of the world.

@macof what do you have to say about this.
Yoruba and Igbo do not stem from the same lineage, don’t believe that lie.
Itsekiris are our siblings, Igala are our cousins, while Ebira, Edos, Nupes, Fons, Baribas, Urhobos (Via Itsekiris), the western Ijaws like the Apoi and Arogbo and finally The Ewes are our physical neighbourhood acquitances.

That’s about all there is to it.

Olu317:
Continue to make mockery of yourself in the eyes of the world. It is only unstudied you can deceive with your uncountable lie. The etymology of this word olokun is of Yoruba origin and it is hers and not borrowed from your kingdom, which was under Yoruba flag through Oranmiyan. The phonology of th word and many other borrowed by Bini from yoruba is self explanatory.

Contrary to your thought, Omo n'Oba n'Edo was what your king was called in the ancient time, so dont laugh to your own detriment. And the word O-BA is simply; 'he reign over' or ontop or above all. So,there are different word that Yoruba ancestors coined to fit to mean same thing(synonym). Since you are struggling with the truth, let me break it down for you grin.

O: he
Bá: reign over, above, ontop, father that's looked upto as authority over all things. It is even part of epithet of all Yoruba Kings.

Olu-Olo:it is a stand alone word for master, lord, king and be used as prefix or suffix in Yoruba language, which is the reason you people are ignorant of the fact e.g olo okun( lord/god of the sea) Olu itsekiri or Olu warri,Olu Ibadan, even oba bini is even ‘olu'.

Furthermore, the headquarter of Olokun festival is ILEIFE in OSUN STATE, which proof the origin of olokun is from Yoruba land. Infact,Professor Frobenuis ,an ethnologist, saw the head of ori olokun and other artifacts of Yoruba ancestors and admired during his exploration in ILEIFE in 1910, which made him declared certain views on yoruba people as being linked to Mediterranean origin . Perhaps, you have another version of Edos grin.

Since you are ignorantly don't know your own history.Kindly tell us who was the ancestor of Ogiso? grin grin
They (Benins) seem to have gotten the Olokun worship in Urhonigbe from the coastal/riverine Yoruba communities they interacted with in the form of Umale Okun/Malokun.
At the mouth of the Formosa river which the Osse empties into near Ogheye, Warri North- Olokun is still the principal deity till date.

SportsRe: Giannis Antetokounmpo Makes Forbes Highest Paid NBA Players 2018 List by YourNemesis: 3:17pm On Mar 14, 2019
rentAcock:
He's Greek, Nigerians shouldn't stake a claim of this basketball prodigy. He was born and raised in Greece, schooled in Greece, given the opportunity to play in their 3rd division basketball before being discovered by an NBA scout. Nigeria did nothing to develop his talent and had it been he grew up in Nigeria, he might've ended up a motor park taut. Every single member of his family played sports or are playing sports. His late father was a former football player. His mother is a former Olympian. His eldest brother plays soccer in Europe. His other 3 brothers are playing highschool or college basketball in the U.S. But what's even more amazing is the fact that his youngest brother who's only 14yrs old and 6'9 tall will be taller and better than Giannis. It's mind boggling to think that someone in the Antetokounmpo family will be better than Giannis. Had it been young Rashidi Yekini was raised overseas and went to a football academy, he might've been the next Maradona, his stunning goal in the 1994 worldcup proved that he was a raw talent that needed refining.
Okaaay?

SO how does all that dismiss his origin?
Ever heard of German Turks or British Indians before?
