malkinburg: Hi all, congratulations to those who recently got their Visa's. I wish you guys speedy transition into the land of Oz, where good fortunes lie in wait. I want to encourage most you in healthcare and IT and most especially the (Civil/environmental/chemical/Electrical engineers and building professionals) that you are stepping into an infrastructure boom and a heating job market. I strongly encourage you guys to Leverage this environment however you can by applying common sense so you can integrate as soon as possible while such opportunities still persist. Please avoid getting here and focusing solely on non skilled roles, with the mindset that as time goes on you will have settled and then afterwards pursue your intended job. My point is the transition is very much feasible with appropriate due diligence. besides your chances grossly improve when you have genuine experience. For those without experience, Remixing lyrics or better still doing a part time internship while also working will help avoid back breaking hussle for too long. In summary, please remain encouraged because several NIGERIAN professionals have come through this process and are doing exceptionally well. I also believe you ought to commit your steps to God and also remain very dogged and resolute in your decision making process, to avoid making mistakes that can set you back from your intended goals. The future is bright to all who can see the dawning of a new era in their lives.
Congrats once again.

izykvision0: hello All,
Been a long while. Seen a quite of movement has happened for both new and old lads. Melbourne is cool and I thank God, it has been a fruitful land for me and my family. Just 2 months away from fulfilling my 2 yrs state nomination requirement, which means half way down to the main Pali..lol. Jobwise, I am on my 3rd professional job (all 3 brand names), previous 2 were contract roles...can't be more grateful to God. Both myself and wife are in Senior positions in our professional fields, and building in a choice estate from proceeds raised here (of course Mortgage). Infact building on my second land; cashed out on the 1st. So I can say its been great and all thanks and praises to God.
To encourage you guys, you can make it here. Don't come with the mind of pursuing care, security jobs - its a plan to fail. But in order not to deceive yourself, you need to package yourself properly before stepping MMA Lagos or wherever. That plan CANNOT commence here.
Get skilled up, develop yourself with courses, read books in your line, because u're coming to compete with people that already have these knowleadge as a Nitendo Game and of course your accent doesn't help, so your brain has to be beautiful.
Will try to be regular here.
Big ups to Bellong and others driving the train. 8 Likes |

abdullahi45: After using the skilled migration calculator, i only have 50 points which 60 is the minimum i guess... What can I do?
What's the minimum work experience i need for the skill migration.? I have just one year of experience... I have BSc Microbiology
Is Microbiology or Biotechnology on the Australian skills list?
Is there any assessment body that assess one results before applying for the skilled migration.?
Abeg what's the meaning of CDR please..
Please tell me as much as i need to know Guru, wanted putting in for student visa before but the Sch fee is too high... What do you advise? NB: I have TOEFL result of 84/120 and BSc in Microbiology with just a year if experience (NYSC). Microbiology or Biotechnology is not on the skill list for 189, 190 and 489 visa. Zany. |

victree4: My first question is will EA assess me as a professional engineer?
It depends on how well written your CDR is.
Secondly, are they likely to approve my chosen employment nomination?
You will be assessed against the competency standard of occupational category specified by you, however, you may be considered against a lower category if you are assessed as not suitable for your nominated category. In short, write a convincing CDR.
Thirdly, In addition to my IT experience, I have some unaccountable experience on the same field in a contracting company. Can I make reference to the companies on my cdr when writing about some projects I carried out? even though Im not including any proofs that I worked with them. (remember I'm not claiming points for experience)
If you based any episode on your engineering work in a company, you need to provide documentary evidence except for IT, youth service.
Fourthly, I don't really know the difference between cdr and career episodes. But do I need to write career episodes since I'm not claiming points for experience?
A career episode is a documented component of your engineering education and/or work experience.
A CDR is the "collections" of your career episodes.
Mathematically, 3 career episodes = 1 CDR
Finally, when making payment on EA, am I to pay for CDR + Relevant Skilled Employment Assessment,? or only CDR
Since you are not claiming work experience you will pay for standard CDR only. See response above. Zany. 1 Like |

catchdwind4rmkd:
The better but costly option is to do both assessments (EA and TRA). Use the TRA assessment to enter your EOI for a less competitive occupation, but use EA assessment to claim 15 points for highest education level of bachelors degree To go the TRA way, you don't have to assess with EA before you can claim points for highest education level. It seems its only our engineers that are making eaves here This your assertion is not true as we have people from vetassess, ACS, TRA, AHPRA etc and even the creator of this thread, chief bellong, is not an engineer. Even if true, it would also be nice to be our first success story from business and management area. Post any challenge you are having here and people will assist one way or the other. Zany. |

folorunso9: Yes I did. 2011 through 2015. I could get the reference letters but will I also be needing bank statements to show I got paid ? I'm a bit lost on that as my challenge is getting these things. Some times I got paid cash for some of the field jobs we did . You might not need to claim work experience and won't need to provide documents to back it up if you can hit 20points in your English. You can be assessed positively by EA without experience. folorunso9: Electronics and Electrical engineering plus it's one year top up. You didn't say anything about your years of work experience, however you might not even need that if you can hit 20points in your English test. Age 30points Education 15points English 20points Total 65points. I think you will go through the accord route since you already have 476 visa. Cc:Catchdwind4rmkd Zany. 1 Like |

jayooh: This my assessor sha, just wan deh form boss. When I resubmitted episodes for professional engineer it took him/her less than 24 hours to reply and feed me back on their hasty decisions. Now to consider for draftperson the same episode you're fitting to engineering tech is taking forever. It's been 3days now ...patiently waiting, God power don cage my guy for corner. It will end in praise
N.B abi is it not through the additional information section of the CDR application I'm supposed to use in communicating with the gee? Because that the medium they have been using in feeding me back on the episodes and asking to rectify or confirm engr. Tech... You will be fine. Let's keep praying. Zany. |

folorunso9: Thanks Zany,
I have read the thread and I just have some questions. I'm 27 I have an HND and a BEng (although through a top up in UK). I would be writing PTE and pretty confident of acing it. My challenge is I don't know which body to access with as they might have problems with my Bachelors not being 5 years The other question is getting pay slip and bank statement for experience (should I just not put this forward because I am currently not in the country?)
What's your course? How many years is the UK top up? How many years of experience? Zany. |

Hello all, its been a while since I came here, congrats to everyone who have been successful, and to those yet to succeed, dont stop oh.
Just to update you guys on my situation, which I must say is a bit unique. Though I have Australian PR now, I am currently living and working in New Zealand. I left Naija last week, on the 11th, but about 2 months before leaving I started applying for jobs,I received lots of regret mails, but in the midst of those I got interviewed as well bybsome other firms and had video interviews with 3 accounting firms (I work as an auditor) and these interviews I believe would have landed me an offer if not that I got another offer and emailed the firms about my decision not to continue.
Like I once mentioned on this thread, your Australian PR gives you the right to work and live in both Australia and New Zealand. I was able to leverage on the resources within my firm to secure a job with the same accounting firm in New Zealand, I received my offer before resigning, na God do am. My flight was via Dubai, I spent about 24 hours there and emirates lodged me in a hotel and this gave me the opportunity to go see the city, it was great experience. I also had to do a stopover in Australia to activate my PR, I arrived Australia on the 13th, the jet lag was not too bad for me sha. On the 14th I went to register for Medicare, open a bank account and also got a tax number, I received a temporary medicare printout while I was told the main one would be sent in two weeks. With that done, I chilled in Oz for a day and early on the 16th I flew to Melbourne from there to New Zealand.
My job is in the capital, Wellington, though it isnt the biggest city, Auckland is the commercial capital of the country. Upon arrival in New Zealand, I had no issues with immigration, my passport was stamped and I proceeded to my accomodation. Between the 18th and today, I have gone to open a bank account and apply for my tax number. They dont have medicare like OZ although the government subsidises costs for you. So far things have been okay, not many Africans in the city , I see one or two everyday though. Wellington is a nice small city, weather is about the same as Australia which was cold for me by the way, the temprature is about 9-11 degrees and winter is already over oh but its still cold. If I had know I would have brought more clothes to protect from the cold, mufflers included.
Based on my time in both countries I think Wellington is a bit more expensive in terms of a decent accomodation than Australia and as you know rent is the biggest cost to be incurred.
I'll end this long post by advising accountants, start looking for jobs a month before you leave, its accounting, IFRS is the same everywhere, if you have ACCA, you can easily convert in both countries. One thing I did while Looking for a job was to include my visa status in my CV, so under the heading I had this "Visa Status- Australian Permanent Resident" that way they know thay you have work rights. Although one recruiter called me and asked me when I would be in Australia and I told him I had a job in Naija and was hoping to get an offer before moving, he said I may not get but to call him when I arrive. So you might be lucky and an offer will come while you're still in Naija and it will just make things easier.
But all I'm saying is, dont limit yourself to Australia alone, Goodluck! Please pardon my typos and grammar its 11:43pm. 15 Likes |
