Events › Re: How Do I Avoid Crowd In My Upcoming Wedding? by Zedaii: 11:20am On Feb 08, 2016 |
My two suggestions are:
- Send out invites to your wedding like a week before it or even a few days before. Many won't turn up because of the short notice.
- Like many have said, do your wedding on a week day.
You can make your choice from the above options.
I wish you all the best. |

Phema: ^^^You may have to send someone in Naija to their office to buy your baby's ticket. That is the surest way to go about it. Hello Phema, thanks. I actually had 2 people call them (my husband inclusive) in Lagos. They called to find out how much before going to pay for it at their office and they were told that we could only do it from here (US). |

Nogen: I went , I saw and I conquered to the Glory of God. Finally made it back home with my bundles of joy after a 3 month sojourn in the States.
At 34 weeks 4 days, I went for my routine check with the doctor and she insisted the babies must be taken out because I was about to have odema. My legs were so huge and dripping water. Asides that, I was doing great and the babies had more than enough amiotic fluid and doing awesome in the womb. The doctor was concerned I might have blood clothing and seizures if the babies were not taken out immediately. I was worried that the babies might end up in the NICU considering how expensive it can be. But , what mattered most was the lives of my babies. Thank God, they had no issues with the lungs as they were all fully developed. They still went to the NICU for them to gain some weight and properly checked. I got discharged 2 days after a CS delivery hale and hearty while my babies were kept back at the hospital. We are in Nigeria now hale and hearty. Started with immunizations already and circumssion to follow next week. Wishing the rest of you on THIS journey an amazing experience. Wow Nogen, thank God for you. Your story is amazing and inspiring. May God replenish what you have spent on this sojourn because even for those that had single births, we know how capital intensive this 'projec't is, talk less of having 3 babies in NICU. God continue to bless you all. |

OMary83: Now in the documentation stage - abeg MamaTobenna, OMary83 and other mummies who gave birth in Cali, how long does it take for BC to come out o? Because these people are telling me 15 working days. How did you ladies do yours please? Did you get expedited?Congrats on d birth of ur princess.did u give d birth cert lady ur return ticket?i gave her my itinerary and I went to downtown la two days later, paid 23usd for expedited and 28usd for a copy of d bc.U can get appointment at d passport office within a week after baby if u call a week b4 ur due date.all baby's documentation was ready within a week plus. OMary83, thanks. I got the BC yesterday - went to the Dept of Health to try and see if it would be ready. Lo and behold, it was! For the BC, I was in the hospital and so filled out forms but did not know I could give my return ticket to expedite. Anyway, when I asked about expedition, the lady said the most she would do would be to expedite from her own end but that the normal government bureaucracy would still go on. Now, the headache I have is for the US passport as the Post Office is saying here that expedited will take 2 - 3 weeks and I no get that kain time to dey here, abeg. So I am considering a third party expediter. God help me. |

modath: Good day House...
Update on the nightmarish POE called Chicago ORD, this time, its point of EXIT..
3. What govt benefits did you enjoy on this journey m, i answered none, they now asked to see receipt & zero balance, i said "its likely to be in my checked in baggage, the male officer said, we may have to ask for your luggage cos we are not likely to take your word for it...
I said hold on let me check my hand luggage cos i had some docs in it, may find it in there, he & the lady officer just said no need and took my hand luggage, diaper bag & hand bag and proceeded to empty them (the lady officer was even asking about my connection to the various biz cards in my wallet), by sheer luck, it was in there & he told me congrats, cos he was about to CANCEL my VISA with PREJUDICE..
I Expressed shock that "i was supposed to present it at my next ENTRY, but he told me NO, you were told EXIT (which is the truth but i assumed the guy who interviewed me at entry made an error), &reminded me to always have it for any US entry/exit for FOREVER.
Told him, "thanks" & was allowed to go after being told lucky you.. they aint gat nothing on me..#Godwin..
MORAL OF THE STORY!!! Chicago ORD POE aint sh1t!! Na wa oo, na to keep plenty zero balance copies be dat, hiun! |

Hello dear people,
Sorry, this is coming late jare but I have had my hands very full.
I had my gorgeous princess about 2 weeks ago! It was an amazing experience. My hospital and OBGYN were amazing! I got great care. I did, however, keep asking what was free or not...lol, remembering what I read here. I got charged $360 for a false labour trip to the hospital. The care though was amazing. I was given some packs of Pampers, wipes, disposable panties, pads, tubs of Tucks (fantastic for post partum stitch healing), sheets to protect bed, baby bag, going home set for baby, a few other clothes, belly binder, etc. As each nurse took a shift, my friend and I would request for more supplies...hospital cost covered it nah..lol. We were discharged the next day, now awaiting my zero balance from them.
A big thanks again to all of you who shared their stories here to educate and guide us.

bachangel: @shawlar @helovesme...so after much pondering, I finally decided to have my baby is the US. One of the winning arguments....I dont see why my child, coming into this world, completely innocent and not responsible for the 'sins' of previous Nigerians, should have his/her potential halved just by our very limiting green passport.... As parents to be, I hope we are making the right decision. Will see how it goes.
Decided on New York, settled on a hospital and a Doc, first appointment date set...due end of November...just trying to decide when to stop work. Planned end of Oct initially, but due to very annoying bosses, huge workload and impossible sales target i am just not ready to deal with, thinking of leaving end of Sept since I can take 6 months mat leave (4 fully paid and 2 half paid)
All the best with your decisions! Bachangel, chai, I like this your office ooo - 4 months fully paid and 2 half paid?! Diarriz God ooo!!! |

bumby1by: Please i need information on California birth. If you have an information about any hospital or doctor in California, i would appreciate it. Hello Bumby, Like other people have said, California is big and you might want to narrow down your search. You can check my posts and see the rates of the hospital I'm using. I am currently in Bakersfield, California awaiting the arrival of my little one. Regards. |

Hello everyone, I have been a silent member and follower of this thread and pretty excited to be posting. May God bless every contributor here as you've all provided valuable info to help people like me on this 'blue kpali journey'.
So I already had a valid US visa when I stumbled across this thread but I got the valuable info about the 'change of intent' letter amongst other things from here and info from friends.
So, I came into the US on the 1st of July (sorry for taking this long to share jare..plenty things). Btw, I'm a July/August mum. I flew Delta at 34 weeks with my 5 year old daughter. The flight was just there, slightly uncomfortable because I'm pretty tall. My POE was Atlanta en route LA (en route Bakersfield..2 hours away). So, in the spirit of giving back, here's my POE story:
The line at Atlanta no be child's play..stood for like an hour before it got to my turn. Thank God for a very co-operative daughter Anyway, when it got to my turn, they kept moving me from queue to queue. First queue, it was a white guy, I was like, hmmm cos his face looked stern but I was like, "God, just give me favour sha". Cos I was pregnant, the person controlling the lines was looking to place me in the shortest queue possible so she moved me to another line. That one had one elderly white guy, I was like, "Hmm, ok". Just as I was settling in, she moved me to another queue that was shorter. Now this one had a black guy and I was like, "Ok oooo". So here goes:
CBP (A big black guy with attitude): Hello, why are you here? Before I could answer, he's like, "To give birth right?" Ah, ahn, na spirit! Cos the truth is people barely noticed my pregnancy even during my flights cos I didn't really look too far gone. In fact, I had to tell people I was pregnant just to get help with lifting my luggage at some points. Yeah, true story.
ME: Anyway, I smiled and said, "yes, and vacation for my daughter"
CBP: We've been having people come here to give birth here and all bla bla bla. So when's your EDD? ME: I'm like August CBP: Have you seen any doctor? ME: Not yet but have correspondence with them. CBP: Sits back. "How the heck are you going to give birth in like a month and you've not seen a doc here yet?! Let me see the correspondence ( I show him, which includes all the fees). "Have you made any payment?" ME: Not yet. CBP: Making faces...."So how much do you have?" ME: $3500 in cash and the rest in cards CBP: "How do I confirm that you have the rest in cards?. There are no ATM machines here. Do I just take your word for it?" I just smile. "So how long do you plan to be here for?" ME: 2 months plus CBP: What does that even mean? It could be 4 months or more. ME: Smiling "I couldn't be here for that long. I have a job" Still smiling. CBP: So why do you want to give birth here? Did you have your daughter here? ME: For access to better health care. No, I didn't. CBP: "So, what did your doc in Nigeria say?" ME: "I'm sorry, I don't understand your question" CBP: "Wasn't he mad that you're coming to spend your money here and not spending it in Nigeria?" ME: "He in fact gave me his blessings, gave me a letter (fit to fly and to whom it may concern) to come with and my test results" I showed him the letter. All the while, he's muttering something about if his wife says she wants to come and give birth in Nigeria, he would wonder why (In my mind, I'm like, yeah of course!)
As he's stamping my passport, he's like, "Are you married?" and then he looks at my finger and sees and is like "Oh yeah" and then he asks, "So, is your husband coming?", I answer, "We're expecting him some time around the baby's delivery". He replies, "I'll be watching out for him", I reply smiling with a glint in my eye, "You can't miss him, he's extremely tall". He smiles back and gives me passport..otoun.
Then I go on to the secondary check point, the guy that gives the files says, "Hello Ma'am, what do you have?" Meanwhile, the CBP had asked me the same question and I told him. So I answer this guy and he's like, "Ma'am, do you have any plants or fresh stuff?". I say, "No". He says, "Go right along ma'am" and that was it o.
The key to going through successfully, I believe, is trusting in God all the way, being truthful and confident.
I have already seen my OBGYN twice. All my Naija test results were accepted but had 2 outstandings which I did today.
Doctor - $2520 (discounted) Tests - Don't know yet but an estimate of $487 (might be lower cos I'm just doing 3 tests) Hospital - $4000 (discounted)
Now awaiting arrival of Americana baby o |
