Tunbolity: As we all know that the major problem many faculties of law have had to battle with lack of qualified manpower,Faculty of Law, UI is not exempted from this. As of present, they only have two professors; Profs. Yemisi Bamgbose and Adeniyi Olatunbosun. Infact, the latter just got a fresh appointment and he was chosen as the new dean succeeding the former, Yemisi Bamgbose after she had overstayed in office due to the fact that there was no other lecturer in the faculty with requisite qualification to become the dean. It was in the light of this that Adeniyi Olatunbosun transferred from OAU where he had been denied the deanship position, to UI and got appointed as the dean upon resumption of duty. Apart from these two professors, the rest are misters. Even the former dean, Yemisi Bamgbose was a mere Ph.D holder when she was appointed as dean due to the dearth of qualified hands. In case you are in doubt, make your investigation among sincere and dispassionate students of that faculty.I am not a student of Law,UI, I am of the faculty of Law,OAU but I know what is going on in that faculty cos I know those who are directly involved there in UIWell, u may be right about d issue of d new dean, but b4 i left school after strike, our dean was still our dean, no change occured. i wud'nt know maybe wot u are talking about happened during dis strike. About d issue of professors, I dont know maybe u av never heard of Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, our former dean, because i can see u didnt mention her in ur list. As for OAU, i know a little about d place, and i want to believe dey too do not av as many professors like dat too. i know of ur former dean, prof popoola (who was also a Dr. when he became OAU Law Dean) nd about two to three odas. Even ur former acting dean, Olat, is jst a Dr. I want to say dis issue of shortages of staff in law faculties cut across almost all law faculties in Nigeria (which i am happy u urself attests to). Furthermore, I want to say every skool has its own area of weakness. If u are sincere and truthful enough, u would also mention the quota oau admits every session. Or Is it d stress of running about looking for lecture theathre to take lectures? Is it d very discouraging condition dat law students take lecture in oau where over 350 students will take a lecture in a class room dat can only accomodate say 80 students? Is it OAU moot and mock court dat u and I know its below stadard? Or is it d fact dat a law student cannot even say confidently whether he or she will go to d law school at d right time due to over quota, where ova 400 students will battle for a quota of jst 250?, to mention but a few. Bro, u committed a big fallacy in ur write-up wen u mentioned dat apart from dose two Deans,"odas are misters". I tot u painted urself as dispassionate and sincere. How wud u say a law faculty of UI has two professors and others are misters. Haba bro! Suferey nah. Kilode? So no doctor at all in the whole faculty. U funny gan oh. SMH. For ur information, UI law faculty has countless of Doctors few examples are Dr. Akintayo (who was a contributor to "an introduction to Nigerian Legal Method" edited by Abiola Sanni, Dr. Olomola, Dr. Anifalaje, Dr. Akeredolu to mention but a few. Bro I neva mention the two Sub-Deans oh,and I never also mention HOD of Private and Business Law who are all Doctors. Make I continue? Bro, abeg in case of next time, make proper research before leaping. Well, I'm not here to compete with ur skool in anyway, I jst want u to know dat dese deficiencies we've counted for law schools in Nigeria is nothin but a product of our bad government. Neverthless, i salute ur comment nd contribution. Thanks. |
Fynestboi: For how many year is one allow to deffer admisn?Maximum of one session. |
Samtolly4JESUS: how often is this bro?It comes at interval and wen d need arises. But at least there will always be one in a session. |
Fynestboi: u deffer ur admisn 4 a session? But u did JAMB LAST YR? Is dat not? Explain better...pls??Yeah its true buh I wasn't d one dat processed admission last year. Somebody close to me used my nairaland account to follow up his admission because he did not av his own account. |
BRAINEE123: It's been a very long time i posted on this thread oh! Chai! kudos to you all.Zezeny God will continue to replenish your wisdom ni oh(by fire by force).AND TO ALL WHO HAVE BEEN WAITING PATIENTLY FOR UI'S LIST,WE NEED NOT RELENT BECAUSE THE TIME LEFT IS SHORTER THAN THE TIME SPENT.WE ALL KNOW THE FULL MEENING OF THE 7 Bs.IN CASE YOU DON'T:Amen Oh. Tankz so much bro. |
koonbey: . You didn't serve after your first degree? No I didnt. I'll do dat after my LL.B by God's grace |
Timichael: Can anybody tell me more abt moot and mock competitions 4 law students in Nigeria?Moot and Mock competition among law students is a practical aspect of law where all wot have been tot in class are put into practice. As d name implies "mock" is just a miniature of wot is being done in real courts. It can be between chambers in each university, and it can also be between two or more universities. Most times, high court judges are being invited to decide d winners. I hope u found dis helpful. Goodluck. |
damosky12: LOL Bros, pardon me for that. I'd like to ask: Have u ever wished you read law in your 1st degree?I fell in love with Law immediately I resumed as a fresher. throughout my 100level days I neva concentrated much cos I was only busy pursuing anoda jamb dat would earn me Law. because of my desperation to study law, I had to sit for GCE in my 100level days so as to pass Literature which I did not av den. Fortunately, it did not work out den. I did not take jamb during my 200level days. Again, in 300level I took anoda jamb. It was dis jamb dat got me admitted into UI law. By now I'd already fallen in love with History, besides aving just one session left to get my B.A. Hons, I cud not forfeit my golden chance. I den deffered my admission in UI for a session. After completing my first degree a year after, I joyfully resumed my Law programme in UI. Thank God, I'm enjoying it now. |
damosky12: oh, I thaught u had your 1st degree in law?Haba! Bros, how I go get one degree in Law and still be reading Law again. Na xo I been like book reach? |
cimetidine: zezeny, u sabi eavb10 on 2go?Yes sir |
Professurr: @zezeny.Delta state universityWhao! Coincidentally I also read History in my first degree. |
Professurr: @zezeny. Wish i had that kind of sponsorship i wud hav bin a law grad now.Btw bro, which school did u study your History ? |
Professurr: @zezeny. Wish i had that kind of sponsorship i wud hav bin a law grad now.Oh! I feel ur plight bro. I believe where u will reach, no matter wot, u will surely get to. But about d NOUN issue, I want u to look b4 u leap, because NOUN law programme has been announced by d COUNCIL FOR LEGAL EDUCATION and the NIGERIA LAW SCHOOL as illegal. This is due to d fact dat part time law programme has been cancelled, nd NOUN runs all its programme on a part time. And as at d last check, its law students are not welcomed into the Nigeria Law School (I don't know about d latest tho). So, I advice u to make enquiries about d skool properly b4 applying so dat ur dream of going to d law school and becoming a lawyer will not be battered. GOODLUCK SIR. |

About d post utme score, if ui follows d previous procedure of shortlisting, den I tink 70 in putme is OK for law. But I wouldn't know, if dey decide to invite everyone of u who scored 200 nd above dis year, den I tink u shud aim nothing less dan 75 because den u will av more candidates competing. Goodluck. |
Professurr: @zezeny. Pls. I was wondering if you are working as well as pursuing your law studies. Considering the fact that you have bagged a degree, or how else are you coping?Bro, I'm a full time law student. I'm not compromising it with anytin. No work at hand. I'm just like somebody who has just entered University for d first time.... (lolz). |

As for those of u coming to study law in UI. I'm happy to inform u dat u've not made d wrong choice at all. The University of Ibadan is one of d best schools in Nigeria where u can get ur legal education. As we all know, UI has d highest number of professors in Nigeria, therefore, dere is no more debate on d fact dat u are coming to a faculty where u meet professors. Furthermore, our lecture rooms are so conducive for learning. Apart from d fact dat dey are situated within d faculty premises which makes it practically uneccessary for u to roam about taking lectures, dey also av capacities dat can conviniently accommodate students. As regards teaching, our faculty teaches law in its modern form. We hold moot and mock competitions which is d practical aspect of wot we are being taught in class. We also engage in healthy debates both within and outside our university. It wud also interest u to hear dat faculty of law, UI is d only law faculty in Nigeria dat takes "CLL 103 and 104 - Latin for Lawyers" (I stand to be corrected) which is a special course to teach law students Latin and latin maxims which are used by lawyers in d course of their practice in Nigeria. Time and d stress of typing would not permit me to mention more packages in our faculty as dere are still many more. All I need to tell u is to come into d faculty focused and determined. And also av at d back of your mind dat "prayer and hardwork" do it. We don't learn "law" alone, we also learn "character". In d University of Ibadan as a whole, we don't give or take bribes. We believe in equity and sound judgement. That is d more reason why our admission is based strictly on "merit" and nothing else. Once again I welcome u. Thanks. |
Samtolly4JESUS: 105....na xo o. make dem dey commit d crime make we dey collect d money |
