I hope some people who should be solving problems do not create needless and avoidable problem in this country? The mindless killings by rampaging murderers and criminals across the country deserves urgent focus. Agents of death and the devil have been killing innocent and hapless citizens with impunity and audacity, without appropriate response from relevant authorities. Elections are over and it is time for governance, delivery of campaign promises and accountability. No one at any level or tier of government, irrespective of political party, was elected to give excuses. Excuses are the hallmark of failure and should not be accepted.

I will keep screaming it loud that for whatever reasons, the current INEC appears unprepared to conduct and conclude credible elections -watch out for the Governorship elections in Edo and Ondo State as well as the 2019 general elections. INEC and the security agencies should call themselves to order. People are being slaughtered and killed across the country yet we see Nollywood style scripts being acted by people who are paid to deliver clear tasks and targets.

Nigerians must collectively demand explanation for this wanton madness that has escalated with impunity and criminal audacity in the past months. The conspiracy of silence and feeble response (if any) by those who should act is condemnable and questionable. Equally mind-boggling is the fact that almost every tribe and State has become a victim of this brazen criminality, yet it seems key segments of civil society have been anaesthetized and hypnotized into an inexplicable "siddon look"!

An Abuja-based group, Club De Pals, has reprimanded President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to pay due attention to the ongoing killing of villagers across Benue State, even as voices from all over the world have continued to express concerns over the crisis.

Club De Pals, a non-profit organization comprising young professionals of Tiv extraction, wrote an open letter in which it said Mr. Buhari should remember the maximum support he received from Tiv people during the last general elections and desist from his contemptible attitude towards them.

The letter, dated March 29, was signed by 13 young Tiv professionals who live and work in Abuja and was directly addressed to the President himself.

“We are compelled to use this medium of communication to join our voices with other well meaning Nigerians in condemning the on-going genocide in our state, Benue,” the group wrote.

The group said the people of Benue have not experienced peace since the beginning of the year, adding that the attackers are actually terrorists and not merely herdsmen as has been argued by many.

“Since the beginning of this year, the whole of Benue State has been under siege from armed militia and terrorists masquerading as Fulani Herdsmen. The unprovoked attacks, which occur mostly in the night or early hours of the morning have left hundreds of people dead and property worth millions of Naira destroyed!

“These attacks have rendered thousands of people homeless, most of who are now camped in different parts of the State as internally displaced persons (IDPs).”

The group said the crisis, which began in Agatu Local Government Area has now spread to no fewer than 9 other local government areas in the state.

“The latest round of the crisis, which started in Agatu local government area with the killing of over 400 people in one single attack, has spread to Tarka, Makurdi, Guma, Logo, Katsina-Ala, Buruku, Gwer West, Ukum and Kwande LGAs of the state.”

The group said, after a line-by-line consideration of the crisis, it discovered that the administration of Mr. Buhari holds the people of Benue in contempt and has been forced to list its demands.

The letter was jointly signed by leading members of Club De Pals. Their names are: Mike Tyowua, Teryila Uganden, Tom Chiahemen, Sylvester Kwen, Cletus Akwaya, Pamella Abellegah, Hon. Wuese Tyopev, Esther Miaphens, Patience Tarza, Engr. Toryila Zugu, Tarsoo Ade, and Mary Ordam.

We cannot continue like this! How tolerant can Nigerians be in the face all these? The inconclusive elections are a wake up call to looming danger ahead of 2019. I can tell INEC as presently constituted has challenge. I fear for the upcoming Governorship elections in Ondo and Edo. If an incumbent chairman is "struggling" to win an election with all the apparent paraphernalia of the state, he has simply lost out. Why pretend and needless agitate people. People should learn to concede defeat with a measure of decorum and decency. For many people, elections are only free and fair when they and/or their political party wins.

A mother of five children was found dead in a hotel room in Apapa area of Lagos State, on Friday afternoon. The woman identified as Mama Joy who runs a restaurant close to police dog section in Apapa was found dead in the hotel situated along Randle Road, Apapa.

The management of the hotel was said to have alerted the divisional police officer of Apapa police station, SP Rotimi Odutona, and he swiftly sent a team of policemen to the scene. LEADERSHIP gathered that the hotel staff had waited for the guest (s) in the room to check out after their time had expired but to no avail.

A source at the station disclosed that after several knocks without an answer they had to force the door of the room open. The staff were shocked to see one of their guests dead in the hotel room. SP Odutona was said to have invited the staff on duty to make statement. The relations of the deceased and her children were also at Apapa police station, crying like babies. One of the police sergeants at the station said there was no visible injury on the corpse and her partner she allegedly came in with was nowhere to be found.

i was born and bred in abuja, from onset the indigenes (gbagyi) of abuja are the ones that owns PDP and only do PDP things, that is y hon. now senator philip aduda will never in his life think about decamping, the settlers say the yorubas, hausas, igbos etc from onset are the d one doing ANPP, APGA CPP back then, there was a time the indigenes were not in unity and ANPP with hausa candidates where seriously winning then, but since the time the gbagyi's have united, it can only b PDP or nothing, and i have not seen any indigene contesting in any other party other than PDP, so abuja is PDP.

You are right but ANPP and now APC has been winning Gwagwalada Area Council. PDP right now controls 5. It seems that for AMAC Chairmanship, both PDP and APC are fielding indigenes of Abuja so it could be dicey? Just my thought though.

Eminent lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), has said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plotted a coup against the Nigerian constitution by declaring Yahaya Bello as the Kogi State Governor.

Olanipekun, who is the counsel to James Faleke, the petitioner, told the state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja that his client was the rightful person for the governorship seat.

“What INEC did in the state on November 22, 2015, by substituting a stranger (Yahaya Bello) for a substantive candidate (Faleke) in an election that was already concluded is a coup against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Olanipekun submitted.
He cited sections 179(2) and 181(1) of the Constitution to buttress his submission that INEC’s decision to declare the election inconclusive was a coup against the constitution.



Section179 (2a&b ) states: “A candidate for an election to the office of the governor of a state shall be deemed to have been duly elected, where being two or more candidates, he has the highest number of votes cast at the election and he has not less than one quarter of all the votes cast in each of at least two thirds of all the local government areas of the state,” while section 181(1) states that “if a person duly elected as governor dies before taking and subscribing to oath of allegiance and oath of office or is unable for any reason whatsoever to be sworn in, the person elected with him as Deputy Governor shall be sworn in as Governor and he shall nominate a new Deputy Governor who shall be appointed by the Governor with the approval of a simple majority of the House of Assembly of the state.”

Olanipekun emphasised the supremacy of the constitution declaring: “My Lord, the spirit and letters of the constitution is self-executory, and it is like the rock of Gibraltar that cannot be moved. Indeed, no single word in the constitution is a waste! So, INEC has no discretion with regards to sections 179 and 181 respectively at all.”

On whether the petitioner, Faleke, has a locus standi to approach the tribunal, Olanipekun submitted that the petitioner indeed was a candidate who has the locus in view of section 187 of the constitution. He referred to the case of CPC VS INEC where the then President Umaru Yar’Adua and his deputy, Goodluck Jonathan, were jointly sued, adding that if Jonathan as Vice President was not a candidate, he would not have been joined in the suit.

He further urged the tribunal to discountenance the argument of the respondents that votes in an election belong to political parties and not candidates. Citing a recent Supreme Court ruling, Olanipekun said: “Parties only sponsor candidates but candidates stand for elections. The law has moved from the era of Chibuike Amaechi (former Rivers State Governor). We are now in a new testament.”

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described as unnecessary the reported plan of the federal government to borrow $2 billion from China to finance the N1.84 trillion deficit in the 2016 budget.

Rather, Fayose said President Mohammadu Buhari should finance the budget with the recovered loot from corrupt politicians and money saved from the Treasury Single Account (TSA),

He said the move was an attempt to mortgage the future of Nigeria and its people and put the country into unnecessary debt.

Fayose, who said the 2016 budget was not a reflection of the present economic reality in the country, added that the proposed loan if obtained would further aggravate the suffering of the masses in 2017 when the Federal Government will be servicing debt with about 50 percent of its budget.

In a statement by Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, to the governor, Lere Olayinka on Friday, the governor said, “In elementary economics, you don’t propose to spend more when your income reduces, and I still can’t understand this Buharinomics in which Nigeria is going to spend N6.06 billion with crude oil bench mark of $38 per barrel when the country budget was N4.5 trillion in 2015 when crude oil bench mark was $53 per barrel."

He warned that with the proposed N1.84 trillion borrowing, $2 billion of which President Buhari is already going to borrow in China, the nation may soon be going the way of Greece because Nigeria will be borrowing N5 billion per day for the next 365 days.

“If your income was N200, 000 per month last year and your expenditure was N195, 000 per month; does it make any economic sense for you to propose to spend N300, 000 per month this year that your income has reduced to N120, 000?

“Only President Buhari can explain to Nigerians what manner of Economic theory encourages borrowing of N1.84 trillion to fund a N6 trillion budget. As for me, it is nothing but a voodoo economic theory, and Nigerians must take note that the income that should accrue to them in five years’ time is about to be spent in one year by the Buhari’s APC government."

I suggest that all politicians should just move to APC! It's obvious what the interest of the average politician is.

As it is, the State House of Assembly will form quorum and can now resume sitting while other pending results/elections are awaited. I think all sides should concede that the elections have been won and lost and its time for governance.
