Mayor made a good point yet I think there's no crime in trying. We also have the talents. Boxing is another sport where I think our boys will do well if they have the facility to train and good boxing promoter. We have some good boxers. God this online............. Nigerian boxers lack supports that can make them world champion, says Ajose Former World Boxing Title Challenger, Olusegun Ajose, says Nigerians boxers lack the necessary support and adequate preparations that can make them world champions. The United Kingdom (UK) based-boxer told pressmen in Lagos on Thursday that these inadequacies were responsible for most of the country’s boxers’ dismal performance at the world championships. “Despite our passion for the country, there is little we can do at the world stage because without the necessary financial support and adequate preparations to win world championships. “The stake is very high at that level; it requires more than passion and love for the country’s boxers to win the world championship and make the nation proud,’’ Ajose said. He said that Nigeria had talents in various sports but lack financial resources to take on their counterparts from other countries at the international competitions. Ajose said that sports could be used to project the image of Nigeria within the international community. Ajose said that Nigeria has a long and proud history of boxing, “with the many benefits the sport can offer the country in terms of self-discipline and health for the youth. “It is hoped that President Muhammadu Buhari will support the initiative to deliver the country into a new era of World Champions,’’ Ajose said. He said that a detailed plan has been put together, which the boxers will deliver to the President. “The aim is to make Nigerian boxers World Champions in the next 18 months. “The specific aim is to ensure that the country’s world champions kick start a sporting legacy for the youth of Nigeria, which the whole country can be proud of. “It will engender national unity and bring sporting glory to the country, whilst also improving the country’s image internationally,’’ Ajose said. Another UK-based Nigerian boxer, Larry Ekundayo, said that lack of support had led to most Nigerian athletes not doing well at home. The two boxers were in the country to take part in the 2015 Diaspora Day in Abuja. The boxer’s manager, Ben Gray, said if the two boxers were British, they could have been world champions by now. “It’s a fact that these two fine Nigerians will have been world champions by now had they been Americans or Britons. “However, as they are Nigerians they have suffered lack of support from previous governments and faced horrendous racism overseas. “With the present administration, and the Nigerian Change Agenda in place, we hope we can deliver to the country great sporting success and deliver a plan for increased health and self-respect for Nigerian youths,’’ Gray said. Also, Bimbo Afolayan, the Special Adviser to the boxers, said that the boxers were invited to be part of this year’s Diaspora Day celebration and see how they can help Nigerian youths in the field of sports. “They are two individuals that make Nigeria proud in UK, and we know that they can be sources of motivation for home-based boxers. “The challenge now is how they can work with the media and governments toward progressing in their chosen career,’’ Afolayan said. Meanwhile, the duo of Ajose and Ekundayo said that they would visiting the national camp to motivate the boxers preparing for the forthcoming 11th All Africa Games. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/nigerian-boxers-lack-supports-that-can-make-them-world-champion-says-ajose/ |

That was some years ago just when I grad from FUTA. Some of my friends who liked Sikiru used to bash me. They said since I do the younger brother, the older brother shouldn't be a problem nah. They convinced me for 5yrs but I refused. They usually bring up the topic whenever we were doing the younger brother. I don leave am now lols. Someone posted this on the PRESSID thread.... "When i say the core muslim north is holding back the South people will say it's a bigoted assertion! All this rubbish is why i want either a restructured political-economy in Nigeria or we all go our separate ways! Right from the 70s there's been all sorts of affirmative action in favour of the north, with the excuse that it has to be done this way because the north is poor or because the north is educationally disadvantaged! Nobody is thinking that this is unfair to the south who have had to slow down for more than 4 decades so the north can catch up! Now, my question is: does this quota-system, nannying and pampering bestowed on the north have a termination date? Or are we going to continue with it ad-infinitum! Because if the latter is the case then i may just as well give up on Nigeria right now! We can't be carrying on with this primitive way of doing things and expect to catch up with the Asian Tigers! In fact, if care is not taken even little Ghana sef will overtake us on the highway to socio-economic prosperity, leaving us spluttering and coughing in their wake as we forlornly watch them disappear into the distant horizon!" I hope it's a rumour sha. It's too bad if they have really scrapped the program simply because their wards could't meet up. North had only 1 candidate from Kwara State when the program started, with time the number was increasing. We(Yoruba's) followed by Igbo's have been dominating the scholarship program for years. Too bad if they have really scrapped it. What they promised us was change, I wouldn't call this a change. Too bad. |
modath:Eyin obinrin n gbiyanju gannnnn ni oooooo. Ki Olorun da eyin iya wa si fun wa. Oluwa a je ki e je're won. Hinpele. |

THIS IS A BAD NEWS There are strong indications that the Federal Government may have jettisoned the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovations and Development (PRESSID).The development is linked to the dearth of funds to run the project which was initiated by the immediate past administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Government sources disclosed to The AUTHORITY that the scheme is not listed among the priorities of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. It was learnt that because of the poor disposition of the government to the scholarship scheme, the PRESSID Implementation Committee has not called for applications for the next edition. The AUTHORITY also learnt that over 102 candidates who the last administration selected for the scheme were yet to be placed in any foreign university. This has fuelled speculations that the government had caved in to pressure from some politicians, who called for the scrapping of the project because their zones could not meet the merit criterion for selecting beneficiaries. The scholarship scheme, under which Nigerian graduates with First Class honours degrees are sponsored to any of the top 100 universities in the world, was established in January 2012 and has awarded a total of 307 scholarships under three editions.Checks by The AUTHORITY revealed that entries for applications which normally open in September are yet to commence, even as the website for the scheme, http://scholarship.nuc.edu.ng appear to be dormant. Attempts to speak with the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie, who doubles as PRESSID Implementation Committee chairman, were not successful as the commission's Director of Information, Mallam Ibrahim Yakasai was evasive. He also failed to answer calls or text messages sent to his phone. However, an official of the NUC, who craved anonymity, expressed doubt if applications for this year's edition would be opened. The official said the Federal Government was still having challenges in placing some of the successful candidates from the last edition into the relevant universities abroad. The official said: "We have not opened applications for this year's PRESSID and I don't know when that will be because there are some issues on ground. We are still having some issues with the last beneficiaries. "So, anytime we hear from the Presidency on this year's PRESSID, we will open applications. For now we are waiting for the Presidency." The list of the 102 successful candidates for the last edition of PRESSID, who emerged through a Computer Based Test (CBT), was released in the twilight of former President Goodluck Jonathan's administration. The uncertainty over the presidential scholarship comes on the heels of the recent review of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) overseas scholarship scheme, due to a change in the policy direction, that include a partial or outright domestication of the scheme in Nigeria in line with the Local Content Policy of the Nigerian government. The PRESSID scheme provides tuition fees, accommodation, transportation, living expenses and local travels to benefiting students and also offer them opportunities to pursue different courses of study up to PhD level in top universities abroad. Some of the beneficiaries of the first edition of the scheme, who are mainly from the southern part of the country, had recently rounded off their studies while the fate of the recent graduates to benefit from the programme now hangs in the balance. The Federal Government instituted PRESSID as part of efforts to develop a critical mass of professionals who would serve as catalysts of change and agents of scientific and technological advancement, as well as sustainable economic development. http://www.authorityngr.com/2015/11/Austerity--Presidential-scholarship-scheme-threatened/# I hope it's a romour sha. |
The Senate on Wednesday, approved the $200 million loan request for the Lagos State government, following deliberation of the report of Ad-hoc Committee on Foreign and Local debt to which the request was referred a fortnight ago. Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC Kano South), in a motion for the consideration of the report, said: “That the Senate do consider the Report of Ad-Commiittee on Local and Foreign Debts for Special approval of Lagos State Development Policy Operation (DPO) loan budget support of US$200 Million from the World Bank.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/senate-approves-200m-world-bank-loan-for-lagos/ And the debt keeps piling up. It is well. |
IGBOSON1:You are right Bro. You have said it all. This is a bad news, I'm sad. My instincts told me they are going to scrap the scheme because they couldn't meet up. In the first batch of the program, north only had a candidate from Kwara state. They are really holding us back. Too badt. |
WIZGUY69:Brother mii, it wasn't as bad as they painted the town. Most of us believed SE is Seoul until Oodua Insurgents directed their satellite to SE. Make I no lie, I enjoyed those Insurgents dudes. They are so many and no one knows them. They made us realize South East is not Paris but towns like every other towns in Nigeria. Those who have travelled abroad don't do d1ck comparision, as far as they are concerned the entire Nigeria is ghetto including Abj and Lag. Chino is a clown, the dude is crazy. He evetually had a truce with Oodua Armed Forces and the whole issue died down. Problems started again when a smallie called customishitt went to take pics of ghettos in Ikeja and post in nl. That was when round two started which led to the creation of EOD(Eastern Operative Department). Last year was crazy. It was crazy mehn. At least Insurgent Forces made us realized most of those Igbo dudes who called themselves millionares/multimillionaires and Lekki Mansion Owners are nothing but strugglers in real life. Why would anyone come online and call himself a Lekki Mansion Owner when he's a struggler in real life? I tired for those Flateenos mehn. |
WIZGUY69:Really, I thought freeshitt had been existing for long nah. Anyway, it's her wahala. O boy, Ngozi really bashed osun state especially osogbo. That elete ponmo b1tch is an azzhole. 0merta should know where she is now lols. |
modath:You are right ma'am. There are too many smallies and azzholes online. All they do is looking for whom they will engage in e-rants. I jump and pass. Eku itoju baby, eku owo lomi. It is well ma. Gbogbo wa la ma k'ere oko dele lase Edumare. Oodua a gbe wa, Olorun a ba wa tun Osun State se ooooo. |
uniklinkum:Kabiyesi oooooooo I caught you today. Where have you been Bro? You are welcome back online, hope you won't leave again. Everyone has left since smallies and I-POD youths took over politics section. I'm still expecting Uncle Ilugunboy and Prof Katsumoto. Brother mii, Aregbe don spoil our state oooo. Actually, it is a combination of Oyinlola and Aregbesola. 52bn debt as at 2014 ooooo. O sun mi. |
Aareonakakanfo:Hahahahaahahahah Egbon, you don't know dayokanu? He's a Kabiyesi. Ekun oko awon omo Igbo. One man riot that used to give flateeno a run for their money. He's been here since 2005 or 2006. He's a Vet. Many people have left. Politics section is no longer interesting anymore since veterans left. Smallies and I-POD youths have taken over now. |
Aareonakakanfo:I don't want to mention his old moniker but low-key(according to Aare), have you heard of dayokanu? He's a vet here. |
Shymmex and batty shaaa Where is your amala wife Miss89? We haven't seen her in days. |
