EI,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I really feel for you my brother. The good Lord will compensate you accordingly and give you double blessing for your trouble. Amen.

Nairalanders, una don hear again. If you see posting on this forum without CARFAX report and/or VIN number and on top of that you cannot match the VIN with CARFAX report or seller is avoiding giving out this information using one trick or the other, just walk away and wait for God's time to get your car. Better still, contact some of the reliable dealers on this forum who are willing to give this information UPFRONT and they will help you out.

To the guy who says I am Jenju (I just realize that it is EI), abeg send email to me at "straighttalk60@gmail.com" and I will send you my phone number. You can then talk to Jenju and see if we are the same person. By the way a few people have contacted me from this forum and we've spoken on the phone. And if you are not convinced, then that will be your own problem o!. I am not in the business of convincing people. My business is honesty and selling of cars.

If my style is similar to Jenju's, I think that is a great compliment! We are both honest, straight forward, well informed and intelligent. Why won't we sound alike? Maybe you find it strange coming in contact with honest and good people due to your past experience but trust me, honest people still exist - even on this forum. Can't you see all the people helping to check VIN numbers for FREE? It costs money to register to be able to check VIN numbers over here. We need more people sounding and thinking like us on this forum.

All the best.

felo12,

Toyota dealers cannot ship to nigeria because they are under contract. That means they are supplanting Toyota dealers in Nigeria if they do. I heard from a source that Toyota dealers in Nigeria at one time did send petition to Toyota headquarters because of this issue, cannot confirm if it's true so I choose to treat that as a rumour.

AutosRe: 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Edition. by ziontrain: 8:10pm On May 08, 2008
Thanks everybody.

Let the rules be that if you cannot disclose VIN and CARFAX report so we can tie both together, then either do not post on this forum or declare UPFRONT that your vehicle is naija used. We can at least start from there. If you are not sure of source of your vehicle, then maybe you should go to another forum. This will go a long way in sanitizing nairaland. Once again thanks everyone and to inspired_m, I appreciate your honesty. More vaseline to your elbow my brother.
AutosRe: 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Edition. by ziontrain: 5:56pm On May 08, 2008
Mr Inspired_m,

I never intended starting any 'war' here. I was just trying to find a way to give all of us dealers some legitimacy and show that not all dealers are crooks and that nairaland dealers are reliable. But to insinuate that supplying VIN number of a sold car is somehow 'criminal' is to be economical with the truth. I know you are in naija but all over the world, it is illegal to even try to sell a car without making the VIN number available UPFRONT. That information is not meant to be a SECRET!!

Can you convince any intelligent person that there is risk associated with disclosing VIN number that can be seen by anybody just walking past your car on the parking lot? All we are trying to do is to clean up this forum and be rid of people selling accidented, salvage and flooded vehicles which pose threat to human lives and at the same time give all of us some legitimacy. I don't think this is a bad thing now! Abi?
AutosRe: 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Edition. by ziontrain: 4:51pm On May 08, 2008
I also noticed this but just decided to keep quiet hoping someone else will notice. That problem makes you question the CARFAX report. I also wish that VIN number was not hidden - that would have cleared the air. Mr. Inspired_m please help us clear this issue. A lot of customers are watching. Help give this forum some legitimacy. I imagine you have inspired a lot of people here.
AutosRe: 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Edition. by ziontrain: 12:10pm On May 08, 2008
Na wah, that was quick! Congrats Mr. Inspired_m. If we can continue with this standard it will really be nice - post CARFAX report for all our postings and then send VIN number to interested parties so they can cross check. CARFAX is first step but you agree it does not mean much without being able to match it with VIN. It would have been wonderful if we were able to match the VIN with CARFAX report just for the benefit of everybody out there. I hope you will continue in this spirit so we can clean up this forum. Once again congrats.

Nairalanders, we are on the way to changing the standards and rules of the game! Buyers Beware - No CARFAX report with matching VIN number, be suspicious!
AutosRe: When Is "too Good To Be True", Too Good To Be True by ziontrain: 9:29pm On May 07, 2008
Viperman,

Thanks for being honest. I am currently investigating getting equivalent of CARFAX in europe. I am suspect they have something. My opinion is that if customers complain for mileage of 100,000 for 10 year old car, let them go find lower mileage car and pay the price. I think those who quickly reset the mileage in order to sell the car are decietful people that we are trying to get rid of in this forum.

I believe it will not be far off to assume that about 70% of vehicles marketed on this forum are from U.S. hence, VIN and/or CARFAX is very crucial. Any dealer selling US cars and not willing to provide VIN and/or CARFAX report UPFRONT should be viewed with some reservation. Don't you agree with me?
AutosRe: When Is "too Good To Be True", Too Good To Be True by ziontrain: 8:21pm On May 07, 2008
Viperman,

I apologize for using your thread without permission. I promise you Isi Ewu when I come to naija smiley

My first question is this, is it wrong to provide CARFAX report and/or VIN number with your posting? Secondly, will it not give us some legitimacy if we provide this info to customers upfront? When you see posting like year 2000 car with 30,000 miles won't you wonder how come mileage is that low? VIN and/or CARFAX number will help clear the air at least.
AutosRe: When Is "too Good To Be True", Too Good To Be True by ziontrain: 3:41pm On May 07, 2008
Fotodaddy, you just spoke my mind. These guys are making me think I am crazy!! Can somebody just tell me the security risk in posting CARFAX report or VIN number - haba!! If you have nothing to hide, post CARFAX report and/or VIN number and all secret of the car will out in the open thereby giving us legitimacy on this forum. Why can't we just learn to be honest and do the right thing. Being Nigerians is not an excuse for us to continue doing business in the filth of dishonesty abi?

You only need to see some of the recent CARFAX reports posted on the forum e.g. :

AutosRe: When Is "too Good To Be True", Too Good To Be True by ziontrain: 12:53pm On May 07, 2008
Nairalanders,

I am enjoying this thread no be small. Can we just have some standards in our own interest on this forum. I have seen quite a number of postings with VIN numbers here and I am yet to hear of police arresting anybody. If you don't want to post VIN number, how about posting CARFAX report? That one is easy to get, at least we have good people helping to obtain this report for FREE on this forum. It's not that VIN or CARFAX is absolute guarantee that you are safe buying the car but at least it goes a long way in giving us legitimacy here - nigeria factor or no nigeria factor. We may be nigerians but we are also rational human beings. Imagine someone advertizing year 2000 car with 30,000 miles? The validity of that mileage can be determined right away by seeing CARFAX report. Carry on, Nairalanders!
AutosRe: Gmc Yukon For Sale by ziontrain: 3:57am On May 07, 2008
Vallo57,

I see you are a very emotional person. Please go back and read my posting. I am a car dealer in the U.S. too and you and I know that I don't need to be in East coast or west coast to buy car at auction in any part of the U.S. Everything can be done on line these days. You did not address the issues raised but were just hammering on price. if you can breeze through auction and get the vehicle for $5K why don't you buy and send to nigeria? I will be glad to buy it from you for 1.8m after clearing. I still insist that I did not say car is worth 4.8m naira or car is not worth 4.8m. My message was and still is let market decide what it can accommodate. The main issue in this business is not people advertising cars for high price - the issue is people selling defective, salvage and flooded vehicles and presenting them as normal used cars while putting lives at risk. They avoid posting CARFAX report or giving VIN numbers by finding excuses. These are issues that need to be addressed instead of getting emotional. If we don't address these issues quickly, quacks will hijack this forum and customers will bail out in droves. We all will be the losers (maybe not you since you are just an observer). Hope you get the message.
AutosRe: 2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Edition. by ziontrain: 6:25pm On May 06, 2008
This looks like a good deal man. 2003 vehicle with 28,000 miles! Average miles per year in US is 15,000 miles. I would be expecting mileage to be around 75,000 miles. Can you please supply VIN number and/or CARFAX report.

Also, are you sure this car is Limited as it does not have the "LIMITED" tag at the back. Please confirm.

AutosRe: When Is "too Good To Be True", Too Good To Be True by ziontrain: 4:22pm On May 06, 2008
nkc,

More vaseline to your elbow! At least we agree that if you are selling US. model vehicle, your obligation is to provide VIN number publicly so everyone will see. No need to say I will provide VIN when you come to view or I will email it to you. There is no need to hide behind any excuse. How do you do due diligence and research without VIN number for US Vehicles? For UK. Vehicles, I think I will try and take this as a project to find out if there is the equivalent of CARFAX over there. I suspect there is likely to be something somewhere.
AutosRe: When Is "too Good To Be True", Too Good To Be True by ziontrain: 3:48pm On May 06, 2008
Fotodaddy,

I agree with you 100%.  I am thinking that maybe this forum needs a moderator to sanitize the whole place. If we can't find one, I think we can do peer review by setting some standards.

First thing to do is that no one should be allowed to advertise any vehicle for sale without VIN number. It is like selling a house without having a C of O number. We already have kind-hearted people like Jenju and Brauneyes that assist nairalanders with checking out the true status of vehicles via CARFAX reports for FREE. This is great service and we need to commend those guys. I think any seller who does not feel comfortable releasing VIN number of his/her vehicle has something to hide. Here in the US. it is mandatory to display VIN number of the vehicle you are trying to sell. If we can find a way to implement this, we will have gone a long way in weeding out quacks and con men from this forum.

Let's hear from others.
AutosRe: Gmc Yukon For Sale by ziontrain: 5:58pm On May 05, 2008
Mr. Vallo57,

Abeg no vex. I am not saying car is worth 4.8m or not worth 4.8m. If you believe this car is not worth that much at least put forward a logical and truthful argument. You say vehicle is 1.8m in nigeria, this is equivalent to approx $15k. Now my brother, that car will be shipped for about $2k and cleared in nigeria for at least $3k if not more - now add profit of say $4k (to be conservative), say other incidental expenses $1k this gives total of $10k. Subtract this from $15k and you are left with $5k. So you want us to believe that car costs $5k in the US.?

My brother, do your home work small at least! My point is that even if you think price is long-throat, let the market decide what car is worth e.g. Base price for Brand new honda accord in Nigeria at the dealers is a about 6.5m naira ($54k) and base price in US. is nothing near this so why are people still buying from dealers in Nigeria when fully loaded US. spec honda is going for about 5.6m - I mean fully loaded not base? This is market forces at play so please don't get emotional when other people are pricing their cars at rates you don't agree with. If price of vehicle is too high no one will tell the seller before she reduces the price. The market will dictate.

If you want to defend integrity of this thread or this forum, you should go after those who avoid posting VIN numbers when they advertise their vehicles so no one can check their condition, those who sell year 2000 vehicles with mileage as low as 30,000 miles etc. Those will be legitimate targets.
AutosRe: Shipping Company From Louisville, Ky Us To Lagos-nigeria Needed by ziontrain: 9:41pm On May 04, 2008
adebisi1,

Being in Kentucky, your best bet is to get a shipping company in the East Coast. The way it works is that you need to transport your vehicle using a car transportation company to the shipper in the East coast. There are lots of reputable companies who do this for a fee. I don't expect transportation from Kentucky to East coast to be more than $600 - $700 max - you can check ebay and just look at details of one of the vehicles listed for sale, in there you will find list of car transportation companies. I am in Texas but I think East coast will be nearer for you.

You may want to contact Jenju at tikola70@hotmail.com for shippers in the East Coast. By the way, the shippers can also recommend car transportation companies to you. All the best!
AutosRe: Gmc Yukon For Sale by ziontrain: 3:35am On May 04, 2008
Vallo57,

I know you are in America according to your profile but this vehicle is for sale in Nigeria. Where do you want to find it for $8k to $10k in Nigeria? You have to ship, pay duty and make some profit. Please don't pour sand into somebody's Gari. If you don't have money to pay, it will be better to hold your peace. She has a right to sell the vehicle for whatever amount she likes doesn't she? Let the market decide what it's worth.
AutosRe: Shipping From US To Nigeria? by ziontrain: 12:02am On May 04, 2008
Shipping cost is reasonable. Clearing cost - l'm not so sure. Who determines the cost of the vehicle? I don't think Camry 2007 should cost you more than 350k to clear in Nigeria -  I must confess I am not an expert in this area. You may want to contact a clearing agent in Nigeria for a guide. Shipping to Nigeria from Houston is 3 weeks (if no trans-shipment points). If there is, it can stretch to 5 weeks.
AutosRe: Shipping From US To Nigeria? by ziontrain: 9:05pm On May 03, 2008
babs2arok,

You don't have to hire a container. You can share with other people and pay only a fraction of the cost of hiring a container to yourself. There are other issues to consider with this option. Email me at straighttalk60@gmail.com. I can hook you up with a shipping company in Houston.

Nairalanders,

Let's give credit to professionalism of Jenju and stop this pull him down (PHD) syndrome.

Damola1, why don't you just wait and let all these transactions end before you start any negative posting. Let's try and give people the chance to prove themselves. Jenju said cars are at the port. How many weeks left to find out if he is for real? Car should arrive naija in a matter of weeks. We are watching but please don't bring negativity to this forum. Let's all try and lift one another up.
AutosRe: 2006 Nissan Pathfinder 2.8m by ziontrain: 4:45pm On Apr 03, 2008
Vanesa,

Why don't you want to release VIN number? I think it will make prospective buyers more comfortable as they can check the condition of the vehicle. I personally will not be comfortable with talking to a seller without first checking the VIN.
AutosRe: What Is Vin by ziontrain: 4:44pm On Apr 02, 2008
VIN means Vehicle Identification Number. This is a unique number that is used to identify a vehicle. This is basically like an ID number of the vehicle. You should never find two vehicles having the same VIN. Hope this info helps.

Fellow Nairalanders,

Why do you bother engaging with losers in unprofitable arguments. Abeg ignore this Sun god and let him rot in hell if that is what he wants. No use trying to convince a cynic. When he dies he will find out albeit too late that Jesus really exists. Let him talk all the trash he wants to talk here. Answering him is like giving him recognition. I think he should just be ignored.
