@Siena, I accept the apology. I must say that despite our disagreement, I have always held you in high esteem. You have just showed us again what a respectable and decent gentleman you are.

Since you are kind of close with Seun, can you please, on behalf of nairalanders ask him to consider making posting of VIN number compulsory for all postings regarding sale of vehicles. You can see that credibility is becoming a major issue on this forum.
AutosRe: Inspired Men: The Best Auto Dealer On Nairaland! by ziontrain: 8:07pm On Sep 24, 2008
@Igwe1, thanks for the clarification. Please remove the link and post the right one then.

Igwe1, is this a mistake or what? The link you provided are my postings. Please clarify immediately!!

Emperoh, let us not derail this thread. I will let sleeping dogs lie at this point. You and I know what I am talking about as we were not born yesterday. This is about standing up for honesty and transparency. It won't be long before things start to unravel on this forum. Let's just wait.

And to you Mr. Inspired, regarding your good riddance comment, nairalanders are more intelligent than to pay attention to that type of uncouth and foul language.
AutosRe: 2002 Toyota Sienna Xle. ( Power Sliding Doors, Power Seller ) by ziontrain: 3:36am On Sep 23, 2008
Mr Inspired, my intention was not to upset your thread. That is not my style. Those who read my postings know what I stand for. If hiding VIN number in your postings is your style, I wish you all the best. I must say that I am disappointed by your attitude though. I just thought you will assist us in this forum in standing up for honesty and transparency.
AutosRe: 2002 Toyota Sienna Xle. ( Power Sliding Doors, Power Seller ) by ziontrain: 11:36pm On Sep 22, 2008
My brother, if you have CARFAX report why not show it or provide VIN number now. It is not supposed to be a secret afterall. You are one of the oldest dealers on this forum and people like us are counting on you to set the standard in view of what has been happening here recently.
AutosRe: FRAUD ALERT : Buyers Beware Of The Username Phammyus by ziontrain: 4:01pm On Sep 22, 2008
Nairalanders, what say you? I think I will give Phammyus a pass on this. He should pay more attention next time to avoid this type of issue. Let me once again salute his openness by providing the VIN number of the vehicle. Can you imagine the type of cars some unscrupulous dealers have been selling on this forum without providing the VIN numbers. Only God knows what people have bought from those dealers thinking they got cars.

Seun/Siena, I think it is high time we stopped being quiet about this mandatory provision of VIN numbers with all postings regarding sale of vehicles. Think about the lives you will save in Nigeria with this singular act. I think this is a moral issue. May God save us from these unscrupulous dealers.

@Romeobest, I think you owe Phammyus an apology on this. What you did was really uncalled for at the time you did it.

@Siena, Thanks for your objective contribution. My question to you is when are we going to have a moderator and make it MANDATORY to disclose VIN numbers on ALL vehicles being put up for sale on this forum? I think it's about time now.
AutosRe: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by ziontrain: 11:04pm On Sep 21, 2008
@Promise72, now you are speaking my language! JENJU and others, please help us verify this CARFAX report. Phammyus, can you please answer the outstanding questions.
AutosRe: FRAUD ALERT : Buyers Beware Of The Username Phammyus by ziontrain: 10:51pm On Sep 21, 2008
@Romeobest, I will not disipate my energy on ignorant postings like yours because it is obvious that you are just being emotional rather than objective but just for the benefit of those who don't know the history, I have chosen to reply. See my earlier postings regarding this issue below:

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-173971.0.html

If you have been following this forum objectively, you will realise I have always been a strong advocate for standards on this forum. I just happen to believe that you need to get your facts right before lynching. I said in my earlier postings that the poster has one more chance to redeem himself by answering the question I posed to him. What is wrong in waiting for a day? Instead, you chose to jump on him with all your venom.

A logical and reasonable person should be intelligent enough to wait until he can prove beyond reasonable doubt before pouncing on anybody. You don't get a good grip on anyone by holding on to the elbow, you want to hold him by the wrist to get a firm grip. If after waiting for a day without any reasonable answer, then we can all pounce on him and make him a good example on how we will treat all the flooded and accident vehicle dealers. I am not defending Phammyus in anyway (see my earlier posting). I just think we should do things like civilised people and not resort to 'Area boys' tactics.
AutosRe: FRAUD ALERT : Buyers Beware Of The Username Phammyus by ziontrain: 7:36pm On Sep 21, 2008
@akuya, I agree but this thread has some history. I just think Phammyus should be given one more opportunity to defend himself by replying to an earlier thread before he is "lynched". Please see the link below:

AutosRe: FRAUD ALERT : Buyers Beware Of The Username Phammyus by ziontrain: 7:16pm On Sep 21, 2008
HEY, HEY, HEY, I think this is getting out of hand now. SEUN, PLEASE DELETE THIS POSTING, PLEASE. WE DON'T NEED THIS ON THE FORUM!! Anyone should be given opportunity to defend himself or herself before judgement otherwise, this forum will lose credibility. I am beginning to suspect Romeobest is another dealer who feels threatened and is using this name. This is just not fair! The Nigeria market is big enough for all of us.
AutosRe: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by ziontrain: 7:12pm On Sep 21, 2008
@Promise72, while I agree with you that Phammyus should not be lynched and that an independent person should verify CARFAX report, I don't agree with the notion that someone else could have duped a Nigerian and so it's business as usual. As car dealers, it is our responsibility to ascertain that the vehicle we are purchasing has no known issue. This is what CARFAX is for.

I will say it again, LET US MAKE PROVISION OF VIN NUMBER MANDATORY FOR ALL POSTINGS ON THIS FORUM. This will help us all avoid the chaos. Imagine if Phammyus did not provide VIN number of his vehicle. Basically, we will not be having this discussion. I may be wrong but I will want to believe that Phammyus is a genuine dealer who does not mean any harm. Let's just wait to hear from him. In the meantime, JENJU!! I think we need your CARFAX service now.
AutosRe: 2003 Toyota Matrix Xr, 4 Cyl. Another Phammyus Deal, Unbeatable! by ziontrain: 6:56pm On Sep 21, 2008
Nairalanders, there are still some unresolved issues here. First of all, let me salute the openness of Phammyus for providing the VIN number of his vehicle. I think this singular act is worthy of commendation. However, he needs to answer the questions regarding the accident and salvage status of the vehicle. Is Romeobest's accusation true? I will give Phammyus the benefit of the doubt regarding mileage just because he provided the VIN number.

We all know of the implications of selling salvaged vehicles and "accidented" vehicles that cause death to loved ones, financial loss to buyers not to talk of those who end up being maimed. Let's wait to hear from Phammyus regarding these other issues that he is yet to address before passing any judgement. I think this is only fair.
AutosRe: Watch Out! Before You Buy Any Vehicle/car/truck by ziontrain: 4:37pm On Sep 19, 2008
Bicept, Good you brought up this issue again. Your point is quite valid. I suggested sometime ago that we set some standards on postings regarding car sales on this forum and have a moderator. Most of the issues discussed on this thread so far can be taken care of by making it mandatory to disclose VIN number of vehicles on postings. This way, the secret will be out there in the open (at least for vehicles imported from the US which I estimate to constitute about 80% of cars being advertised for sale here).

We have kind members on this forum who are ready to assist with getting history of vehicles from CARFAX using the VIN number of vehicles for FREE! Nairalanders are taking advantage of this already. My advice is that buyers will be wise to stay away from sellers of vehicles who do not make VIN number known on their postings or promise that they will email it to you later.

Jenju has also touched on another key issue - Flooded cars. These are the most dangerous cars you can put on the road. They are simple death traps and many those cars will soon flood Nigeria due to the hurricane in Houston as he mentioned in his post. Buyers beware!

@texazzpete, I am sorry, I do not see any point in your statement. Are you telling us that asking price of N6 million for a 2009 V6 XLE Toyota Camry is not value for money in Nigeria? How can you criticise such? That to me is not constructive criticism. Someone pulling up US price from the internet and doing fuzzy arithmetic for nigeria market in order to criticise price is not constructive. I will accept constructive criticism that is based on sound logic anyday but you will agree that all the criticisms have not been in good faith or based on sound logic taking cognisance of nigeria market.
AutosRe: Please Anyone With Details On This? by ziontrain: 11:09pm On Sep 13, 2008
Autogirl, the best education you will find is here in nairaland. Just take time and read the postings as far back as you possibly can. The more you read, the more knowledgeable you will be. If you are looking for short cut answer, trust me, it will not help you much. Just read these postings here, very educative. All the best.
AutosRe: Brand New 2009 Toyota Camry XLE For Sale (Price reduced to 5.5m) !!!! by ziontrain: 10:54pm On Sep 13, 2008
Mr. Texazzpete,  can you give one legitimate reason why you should be vexed. This gentleman put up his car for sale and says this is asking price - what's the problem with that. Someone says he can get the car for N5.7 million (he has since updated his posting to say N5.5 million and has again changed it back to N5.7 million) and the asking price is N6 million. What's up with that! What's the problem? Personally, I believe the asking price is quite reasonable considering the market price - at least interested buyers can negotiate. Anyone who doesn't see any sense in the posting is likely to be jealous and/or unable to afford buying - this is just common sense, it's a no-brainer. Give me any other reason why someone should be upset with owner of this vehicle - what is wrong with the vehicle? what is wrong with the price? what is wrong with how it's presented or in the language of the posting? There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism but when it becomes destructive and pointless then it needs to be confronted.

Why don't you go to toyota dealers in Nigeria and find out how much is their brand new bare-bones toyota camry - you will be surprised.

I will encourage serious buyers to negotiate with this seller. He seems reasonable to me. Forget about these arm-chair critics sitting down over there in America, who don't know much about the local market in Nigeria and choose to criticise based on US. prices. I live in the US. and understand the Nigeria market pretty well so I can see from both angles.
AutosRe: Brand New 2009 Toyota Camry XLE For Sale (Price reduced to 5.5m) !!!! by ziontrain: 4:55pm On Sep 13, 2008
@akuya, I agree with you. I think most of these critics are just jealous.

What is  your own if someone is adding N1.5 million on the car. Why don't you go get yours and sell it for less and stop getting mad at those who can afford one. These critics will stay away from those selling salvaged, flooded and severely damaged and dangerous vehicles to innocent buyers putting their lives at risk. Those are the people they should go after. This seller is even saying his price is negotiable and others are still upset. This is just ridiculous. I think some of these guys are just broke, busted and disgusted! We really need a moderator here, SEUN, SIENA, WHERE ARE YOU O!!
AutosRe: Brand New 2009 Toyota Camry XLE For Sale (Price reduced to 5.5m) !!!! by ziontrain: 7:59pm On Sep 09, 2008
@idupaul, why don't you check the price with Authorised Dealers and see what they say.  Elim motors is not one of them. Anyway, I think we should just let market decide what it can accommodate.
AutosRe: Brand New 2009 Toyota Camry XLE For Sale (Price reduced to 5.5m) !!!! by ziontrain: 5:57pm On Sep 09, 2008
DeepZone, have you heard of market forces? In Naija, Camrys not as good as this one sell for over N6 million. Go to Elizade or those other dealers in Naija. I don't think it is fair to pour sand in someone else's garri now. If you don't have money to buy just look and go your way or go start your own thread.

Let the market decide what it can accommodate. If price is too high, no one will tell seller before he brings it down but to put this type of comment on a sellers thread is really out of taste.
AutosRe: Please Check This Vin For Me: by ziontrain: 3:56pm On Sep 05, 2008
Nairalanders, you have heard the warning again!! If your seller does not provide VIN number before you see the vehicle, know that there is something fishy. They will promise to give you VIN number after you come for viewing - it's all lies!! If you cannot check VIN number of vehicle upfront, no need to even view it. BUYERS BEWARE!
Car TalkRe: Are Accidented Cars Really Bad Deals? by ziontrain: 4:44pm On Aug 27, 2008
I don't see much wrong in buying accidented car provided there is FULL disclosure. This is the key. Personally, I will not buy it because ascertaining FULL disclosure is always an issue particularly with we Nigerians. I always try to play for safety so my advice is stay away from accidented car.
AutosRe: Nissan Pathfinder 4.0 V6 - 2006 Model by ziontrain: 4:15pm On Aug 26, 2008
I can't understand what this hot air is all about. If you look further down the original posting, you will find out that the guy who posted this message is an oyinbo man. I think he is of the opinion that naijas are uninformed not knowing that we are better informed than him. I think he should just be ignored.
AutosRe: Toyota Sienna 2003 Xle Needed by ziontrain: 5:46pm On Aug 25, 2008
@Rheo, where do yo want to find this type of car? 2003 vehicle with less that 50,000 km is like asking for trouble o! They will just roll back odometer for you. A car travels average of 15,000 miles a year i.e. approx 18,000 km (note that they use miles in U.S. and not kilometers).

Having said this, it may be possible to find one but this will be a very rare find indeed. Effectively you are looking for a 6-year old vehicle (note that a 2003 vehicle is 6 years old - not 5 years) that ran approx 7,000 miles a year on the average! That's a bit ambitious I would think. You need to be a bit more realistic in your expectations. All the best.
AutosRe: Help please:Price Of The Following Cars by ziontrain: 4:42pm On Aug 14, 2008
Ebonyi, Welcome to Nigeria! When did you leave home? Looks like you've been away for a long time. Naijas will not reply because there's nothing in it for them. Very unfortunate.

I will suggest you peruse the postings on this forum. You will be able to have a fairly accurate "guesstimate" of the price for the vehicles. As for the buffing machines, I think you will have to go on 3-day fast and pray that someone replies.
AutosRe: Siena Why ? by ziontrain: 5:45pm On Aug 13, 2008
Seun, more vaseline to your elbow! Keep up the good work.

Siena, thanks a lot for your selfless service. It is very much appreciated. Can you please re-post the rules for all to see.
AutosRe: Why Ask About Mileage by ziontrain: 9:09pm On Aug 12, 2008
Siena, bottomline is that re-programming digital odometer ain't easy.

I totally disagree that mileage is not important. It is not everything but it is very, very important. If not, why do people re-set odometer?

Secondly, let's agree that it is not mandatory to service your car in a garage that is connected to the odometer recording system, why would you want to buy a car that's being serviced by quacks who are not connected to such system? Do you know how much it costs to do just basic service of a car like toyota corolla with a registered dealer in the US.? About $30!! So, is it then wise to to leave genuine dealership and service your car with quacks to save some money? I don't think so.

Basically, a seller that is not willing to provide VIN number should be viewed  with suspicion. Mileage and service history of a vehicle can be tracked via the VIN. By the way, in the US, it is a criminal offence for a car dealer to advertize a car for sale without VIN number. That tells you how important the VIN number is.
