The average Nigerian Celebrates mediocrity and is satisfied with things being run in a counter-clock wise manner ONLY because he/she hopes to be in the same position later on in life so he that can also take advantage of the system with little or no complaints!
Gbam! Honestly, thats exactly how I feel. I really dont want things to get better so that I can also exploit the system, just as how those before me have done. |

Craig D:Why does your employer want to know your HIV status? Are you porn star? Travel cross-continent a lot? what do you do? |
Why were you sleeping around without condom? Anyway, take heart. Take your HIV drugs regularly, there are worse things that could/'should' have happened to you. Go check your hepatitis status, trust me, that is a worse infection than HIV, especially for someone living in Nigeria. It is not the end of the world. |
They aren't morons. They'll oppose bad PDP policies and sign off on good ones. This is just propoganda and cheap talk. BTW, socialism sux
How? And who is propagandizing? |
I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I suspect it was just a poor choice of words or maybe a misquote or "mis-translation" by the reporter. I don't believe they want to oppose everything so blatantly and just for the sake of opposing.
Possible. But knowing Bisi "Mr. Close-up" Akande from his days as the "feyin e" governor, I wouldnt put it past him. Dont forget that this is the same party, known for imposing candidates, now headed by an 18th century dim-with with 'age-is-always-right' mentality. I have no doubt in my mind that this is Bisi Akande's interpretation of ACN's role as the 'main' opposition party. It is very unfortunate that this is coming from a man who was once the deputy-governor of the most progressive mind of this dispensation. Maybe they are referring to possible PDP ideas, policies, bills and positions that will not agree with their own ideology -something I expect them to articulate more forcefully so their supporters and other Nigerians can fully appreciate the alternatives they are ready to offer- I don't believe they are saying DO NOT COOPERATE NO MATTER WHAT.We dont even know what these mofos stand for. We know that Awo was a non-communist socialist who advocated, vigorously, for cautious industrialization; "Awo believed only in the coexistence of foreign and indigenous investments pending eventual nationalization, but that was Awo of pre-1991. We dont know if Awo would have changed his mentality post end of cold-war, and WRT to the economic boom of the 1990s born out of the mind of some of the best liberal minds the world has seen. These dimwits keep holding on to the past glory of a man who was eons ahead of his time, yet humble enough to admit and modify his view when necessary. But unfortunately, we are stuck with the likes of Akande and Tinubu as our representatives and foremost thinkers. Articulate more forcefully? Hmm, if our so called journalist could not force them to explain to us their plans when they needed us most, I dont think they would now. In any way, not expecting much from them. I will wait for further clarification and hope this is just a mistake by some poor PR official or a lazy reporter.I applaud your optimism. As for my, going by the events of past months, I do not expect any thing different from these goons. |
zstranger:WOW! This is unfortunate coming from the ACN, almanjiri-type of reasoning IMO ACN seems to be taking this 'opposition party' crap too far. As always, we fail to copy the right things form our 'oyinbo' masters. The Opposition’s role is not just to , antagonize, antagonize, antagonize, just for the sake of antagonism. The opposition ( aka Government-in-waiting) , in proper settings, thinks of the role more constructively as holding the government to account. If done sensibly with the right attitude, they can cause the incumbent government to adopt positive proposals. And, yes, cooperating with the incumbent government isnt always a bad thing. Working together, when necessary, can only be good for the country. |
http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201105113293557 Don’t cooperate with PDP, ACN warns N’Assembly members-elect The Action Congress of Nigeria on Tuesday read out what could be considered as a code of conduct for its newly elected National Assembly members. One, they must not cooperate with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in their legislative duties; and two, they are not to accept ministerial or other appointments from the PDP while still card-carrying members of the ACN. The party told the legislators-elect during their induction ceremony at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja that as opposition lawmakers, they must ensure that their voices “rang out loud” in order to make the difference expected of them. Although the party admitted that every of its member had a right to accept an offer from any quarter, it vowed not to allow any to use it to achieve personal ambition. Another condition, which was read out to the 53 new House of Representative members and 18 senators by the ACN National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, is that they should not pay courtesy visits. Mohammed said, “The ACN bans cooperation at any level with any government. It is the right of members to associate and the President can nominate anybody, but the position of the party is that, if any member decides to accept an appointment, such a member must resign and not use the ACN for his or her ambition. “Nigeria and Nigerians are looking up to our party and the success at the general elections. Nigerians want to see a difference and our members in the National Assembly must draw up an agenda to make the party different.” Before Mohammed spoke, the ACN National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, had said that the party would not be part of the Government of National Unity proposed by Jonathan. He added that the GNU, if operational would not only turn the country into a one-party state, would negate all that democracy stands for. Akande said, “If the PDP appoints you, you are on your own. What we are saying is that don’t use our logo or party to seek appointment. If we want to have one party state, why did we conduct an election? “If we want to maintain good democracy; we should be able to stay apart as the opposition and the voices of members of the National Assembly must ring a bell.” A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, also advised the lawmakers to push for fiscal federalism by ensuring that the existing revenue sharing formula was reviewed to favour the states and local governments. Tinubu said, “In the last 20 years, I have not heard of a review of the revenue formula; we have a lopsided revenue formula. “A situation where the Federal Government has over 52 per cent of the allocation cannot be accepted; the real people are there in the states and the local government areas. “In the federal principle, it is the states that cede power and trust to the Federal Government to own certain aspects; and without states there can be no federal government.” He said the country had not been running a federal system of government but a unitary system, adding that “this has to stop.” “You have to work hard at this when you get there next month. The Federal Government must not take more than 25 per cent,” Tinubu said. A member of the House of Representatives, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, advised the new lawmakers to work as a team. “Integrity should be our watchword, we should hit the ground running and work with unity of purpose. With these, our party will meet peoples’ expectations,” Dabiri-Erewa, who is the House Diapora Committee chairman said. Others at the event included Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and former governors of Anambra and Benue States, Dr. Chris Ngige and Mrs George Akume. |

Obiagu1:Anyhoo, Lost out in the primary? How? lol To Ekwueme that came a distant third and who started crying, literally, immediately after the primaries ended calling the primary " a charade.?" Truth be told, Atiku came through to him in both primaries, first in 2003 via the PDM machinery, the most sophisticated grass root movement in the North, and secondly in 2003, when he made OBJ promise to handover to him in the presence of other northern power brokers. At no time during both primaries did he ever need the help of Ndigbo, as there was no ranking Ndigbo in PDP then, besides Ekwueme, who was effectively marginalized by the North. Even Atiku was more powerful, individually, than Ekwueme in those days. Survived impeachment? Lets take it one after the other. Are you talking about the impeachment motion engineered by Okadigbo or something else? |
kandiikane:Why is that? |
Obiagu1:So OBJ hates Ndigbo, yet he allowed a prominent son of Ndigbo to be PDP chairman, brought Okonjo from IMF and backed her up tremendously, Supported Dora even when he need not do that, had a good relationship with his Igbo SGF, allowed Andy Uba et al to feed fat on what they did not work hard for. I think you are deluded, crazy and possibly schizophrenic I am really concerned for you. You dont seem to be making any sense. |
kandiikane:Who goes to the university to learn? The university is for shokishombolo. Nothing more, nothing less. |
