Have you ever heard the name Ekwem Arugo?

He was the first man to settle in the then olden days enclave of what now became Owerri. The people of Owerri gather each year to celebrate this man, on this very spot is the place he slept on his first night before moving deeper inland to set up a home. This place is along Mbaise road, close to the police station around Fire service.

Enjoy the festival to honor this great man, the festival is called the Oru Owerri festival, a carnival of sorts.

This is a statue made in his honor.

But, Owerri people, if you think you can bribe me to stay quiet on the state of some roads...... I no gree cheesy

This road has so annoyed me that I must talk, I had to spend the better part of two hours waiting on a hold up along Okigwe-Owerri road, Akabo to be precise. The spot is, terrible, and the governor is taking so long to fix this road.

spyder880: prepare for the worst

The biggest problem is that there is no drainage around that area- From Ugwu Orji to Eke Atta. Akabo is precisely where Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi the guy representing Mbaitoli- Ikeduru federal constituency hails from. Wonder what he has done about the situation.

This is more of a cultural event than showcasing the beauty of the city.

It should be in the culture section.

I dont think so, there will still be lots of politically related posts. The culture bit was an introduction to the origins and style of life of the people we want to look into. Besides, those people were bubbling up there, sure grin
